Anybody else have this issue? It's as if its very sensitive too. I can barely touch the power button and my phone screen will shut off, but immediately come back on. Also if you actually press the button, the screen will shut off than come back on. Anyone else have this kind of issue?
Yeah this happened to mine just two days ago. I ended up pulling the button off entirely and using the phone without it. Super frustrating.
Power button failure is a common known issue with S3 devices. Take it back in most cases they replace the device.

Hello guys I was wondering if anybody else is having this problem, sometimes when I press the back key on my att nexus s it freezes for a couple of secs then it goes back to normal, it won't matter what I am doing it could be anything from visiting the marketplace to browsing the web its really annoying me a lot at this point.
If you know anyway how to fix this issue please let me know thanks.
I have the same problem, but it also happens with my menu and search keys. The individual backlight will dim and the phone freezes for 4-7 sec.

Not having this issue.

Is the phone freezing or is just the back key randomly not responding to touch? If its the latter, then you need to do an exchange. Common problem.
I used to have this issue but it eventually went away. It happened after they replaced my screen.
I used to have this and assumed it was a hardware thing, changing roms sorted it.
I have no idea why this is the case and when someone else said as much I thought it couldn't be the case but I'd suggest you flash a different ROM and see how you get on.
I have this problem also. Mine will go dark and exit out of anything I'm doing as if I was pressing it. Gets old sometimes

I started getting this about two months into the life of my Nexus. In the process of exchanging mine now in the hours that I get an unaffected unit.

My first one did this constantly so I exchanged it and so far so good with the new one.
Looks like a bad batch of ns4g's went out. Mine is doing this too. Not very ofter but enough that I notice it.

Actually it affects all Nexus S models. I think it is touch panel driver bug.

So my galaxy s2 skyrocket has a stuck power button. Lately it getting worse, because multiple times a day it just turns off and vibrates until I do something. I'm currently on vacation so I can't take it apart here. Is there any easy fix and/or app that can replace the turning on the phone with a different button? I have done anything about it because I'm getting a new phone soon.

Power switch troubleshooting, teardown and fixes
Suddenly I had the power button problem too yesterday. I was watching the screen and it locked and vibrated like a FC. Then it shut down into a permanent 2.5 sec. intervals vibrating boot loop.
Recovery and Download modes were therefore unreachable. I could see one Samsung logo on the way to Recovery or quickly tap volume up at the Flash Warning screen and see the download Android go by before forced restart. Good, because the correct troubleshoot is that simply inserting the battery begins the loop. (It's your power button then!)
The external power switch remained spring loaded (physically operational), but ineffective. The problem is more internal. Tapping it on the table edge didn't help. I took out the battery, SD and SIM cards and seven cross head screws. Unsnapping the i727's back cover was easy using my fingernails; beginning with the slack space surrounding the volume rocker with the opposite hand clawing gently in the battery well, then threading your way around the case edge. The rocker freely floats out of position, so don't let it fall too far!. It is easily threaded back into position for reassembly.
Inside the external power switch's location is the plastic power button (short cylindrical nub on molded plastic block). That too was still spring loaded and physically operable, but ineffective versus the boot looping.
In my case, the hardware fix came by peeling up the corner of the mainboard nearest the button and blowing a few times, with the button edge facing down so gravity helps clean out any dust.
I tested by inserting the battery (voila! no vibration) and booting before shutting down for reassembly. I had a good soft screen lock button on my home screen's Widgetsoid custom widget and had largely ignored it. Now I have added the Smart Screen ON app and will use both. SSO offers both functions if you like. Thanks to the members who pointed out the troubleshooting, teardown and fixes detailed here.
Guys my phone was acting up. I tried to boot into recovery, and it wouldn't go. Splash screen came up and had recovery booting in upper left hand, than it just vibrated and kept doing just that. I pulled battery and put it back in and automatically vibrated. Now it just keeps doing that. I just wanted to clear cache and now it's doing this!
Every time I put my battery back in, it wants to automatically boot into recovery. But than just keeps vibrating.
EDIT: it booted into recovery and went back to its cycle. I think it has to do with my screwed up power button. Not sure what to do?!?
I had the same issue.
You can send it in to get fixed, our pull out the power button like I did.

How do you operate recovery and getting into it? My phone is back up now. I just tried recovery again and had the same loop problem. Not sure if I should try going back to complete stock.
Does the phone have to be less than a year old to take it into Verizon? Its older than a year. Is it worth trying to go into Verizon?

I was able to turn the phone on after taking the power button out by sticking a pin in the hole and pushing down on the button within the hole.
This was also how I diagnosed it was my power button for sure. I could just flick the button in the hole without paying down and the screen would shut off.
I was told this is a hassle to fix because it could be a short on the power cable. I'm just sticking with my phone like this for now

Ohhhh. Yeah, I'm afraid to take my power button off.
I thought it was software at first. I clean flashed BoneStock and it went away. Then when I double pressed the button today it started happening again. I wanted to try flashing CleanRom but I can't even get into recovery.

I've had it twice. Last one was just 2 minutes ago within hangouts. Nothing happened, no crash or anything just this in the notification bar and it asked me to send it.
Same thing here as well. Showed up twice since i had the phone. Got mine the monday after release. As others, nothing crashed, phone still operated as normal.
Bug reports are generated if you hold volume up & down + power.
More than likely you are doing this by accident.

I just tried that button combination and I did the get same kind of report. But Idk how I could have done that on accident while using hangouts chatting without locking the phone or trying to.

No crashes here either but I am geting this quite often...
Also noticing this, even if I'm not even using the phone. Most recent one was an hour after the last time I had picked up my phone. It was just sitting on the table and bang, vibrates to tell me there is a bug report. I feel the need to re-iterate that it is happening without me having any interaction with my device.
Sometimes tight-fitting or crookedly-installed cases can press the buttons. Just a thought.

Great! thank you kind sir! :good:
I've been having a few problems lately. Ever since the 4.3 update, my power button is REALLY sensitive. I can barely tap it and it will bring up the power menu. Sometimes hitting the power button doesn't work. I don't think it is a hardware problem as I've disassembled the s3 and the logic board and power switch are fine.
Part two:
I thought this and the battery drain/charging issues I've been having may have been due to a bad OTA so I attempted to boot to download and reflash the rom with ODIN.
Herein lies the problem. When I boot to download mode (which is almost impossible because of the power button problems) it will sit there for a moment then reboot. To clarify, I can get into download mode where it tells me how many times I've tripped the flash counter, etc. After that it reboots. Also when it does reboot, sometimes it loops, again I assume this is due to the power button issues.
Any help would be appreciated.

OK, then you should call Verizon and get another one. I think something is wrong with your hardware. Sorry.

I know what your talking about and it's only happened to me after updating to 4.3 OTA.
The power/phone options menu I'm talking about is the power button long press.
Well, this comes up without touching the button. It's like it's some kind of static, because it'll do it several times in a row while randomly shutting off the screen, etc.
Very frustrating.

It might not be a 4.3 problem but a physical problem. This is a extreme case but your phones might be on there way. If you are having the same problem as this thread the fix should work for you.
