°°PROTEST°° NFL app won't run on rooted phones - General Topics

As per the subject heading, the NFL's official app chose to not allow access to users with rooted devices.
It seems more and more app makers (from larger companies) are making this decision, and, obviously, it's lame... and of course they have the right to do this (so please don't argue that point) but it goes against the concept of Android's openness.
So, even if you have no interest in the NFL, I encourage all of you to download the app from the play store and review it at 1 STAR as a sign of protest. I've seen the app's rating go from 4.7 to 4.0 in the last couple days due to all the rooted users protesting the NFL's choice to do this.
Cheers

I just don't understand why they do it. Seems bizarre to alienate some of your viewers.

I bet there is a work around for this. Much like enabling video chat on hangouts for att devices. Now if someone could find it.

Will do. But from what I've read on The Verge, the update doesn't really serve any good purpose because its confused about its own utility and still scattered

Must be USA only I can't see it. Another reason to give it 1 star

New Market working on MIUI and Cyanogen 7

Just wanted to confirm after testing that the new Market is working on both the MIUI and Cyanogen Roms.
Of course you can't watch videos [you can in fact rent, but not watch] on rooted devices.

I can confirm it works on Gingerbread/Sense 3.0 ROMs.
Can you give a little more detail about what rooted phones aren't able to do related to videos?

Yeah. Rooted phones can rent movies/videos but cannot watch them. And getting a refund will consist of filling out a refund form.
So if you're rooted don't even bother going through the hassle of trying to rent a movie.

Personally, that isn't something I care about, but that's lame. I wonder why being rooted prohibits that.

[email protected] DRM concerns from the MPAA.
I agree too, the Movies on rooted phones is bull****. As if I'm really going to open Shootme and record a movie at 2 frames per second and have my phone blow up halfway through the movie.
But where the hell did you get the new Market? I don't want to wait for Google to push it, it could take weeks.
It's available from a slew of places. Just look around.

Just found it in the themes and apps section.
I would use netflix if you really wanna see movies on your small phone screen.
The new market is very nice but I miss the carousel.
Have you seen the new pricing from Netflix? LOL

The new market is cool. And seems a lot faster. It works on the ROM i'm currently using (see signature). Not being able to watch movies is something i don't really care about tbh. If I REALLY need to watch a movie on the go I can just use Netflix.
Working on royal Ginger 2.1

I would tell you to purchase "Amatsu" from the Market, but the developers are thieves and crooks.
They sold "free android movies", which was vaporware. It never functioned... Only had a date on it staying when it would be working again. It then disappeared & Amatsu took it's place. Now Amatsu doesn't work!

The developer is a CROOK. The people on this development team are CROOKS.
They don't know what they're doing.
They're breaking laws.
They're selling Vaporware (software that does not do what it is being sold to do)
They started by making the "free android movies" application. Well; they ****ed it up. LOTS of people left negative feedback on the Market and their Facebook page. When a customer legitimately complains to them or asks for help; that person gets BLOCKED...
They removed "fee android movies" from the market, because doing so cleared all negative feedback.
They then released "Amatsu". Those who bought "free android movies" got screwed.
I gave them another chance by purchasing "Amatsu"... Now they're pulling the same exact ****!
Google needs to ban these people from further publishing ANYTHING to the market...

I've heard they were going to put out this magazine before, and to me, its pretty much a joke of a magazine.
Let me give you an excerpt from the first page which made me laugh:
"In a world full of roadblocks, rules and lame limitations, Droid has none. It empowers you to do life on your terms, in your own time."
I'm sure you are all laughing right now.
Lets see, Droid has no limitations..... I'm assuming they aren't including forced bloatware and forced custom UI's? Right....
"It empowers you to do life on your terms..."
Obviously except for not being able to remove apps you don't want on your phone, or to choose to have a pure Android experience without Motoblurcrap or Sense or any other (I don't really mind Sense, but it's the principle!)
Other than that, the magazine is just trying to sell you accessories and phones. [/QUOTE]
The only reason it was mailed out.
Doc
It was a complete joke and nothing at all like what they were trying to promote before it came out. Marketing bull.
Truly scary would be a magazine titled "BlackBerry!" Can you imagine the sorry crap an issue of that would contain?!
Magazines still exist? Damn.

[App][2.1+] BeerTimer, On a boring party?

On a boring party?
Follow these steps:
1. Grab your android device
2. Open android market
3. Search for BeerTimer
4. Download BeerTimer
5. Make boring party a success!
No seriously, I have developed an nice little app that lets your android phone time how fast one can drink fluids! It uses your phones acceleration to sense when the table it lays on is being hit.
Usage: Lay phone on a table, hit the table once to start the stopwatch, then again to stop the time. One use is to time how fast one can drink fluids (beer chug game).
Or if you don't drink bear, then it's just a great stopwatch with a beer in the background!

If this is a serious question, there is a brief explanation in the app as well in the description.
You have a bottle/can of beer. You hit the table which the phone is running this app on and start to chug the beer. When you are done, you smack the can/bottle in the table and the timer stops.

[Q] Best Tablet for Small Child.

Hi. My name is Ari and I'm a alcoholic.
Just kidding, but seriously.
Ok here is the deal, like my tittle states I am looking for a reasonable tablet for my son. I will not state his age whereas he is extremely too young for such device, but his mother (my ex), yes I am single PM for details, have agreed it may be a good idea to buy one.
Reasons why we are considering;
To enhance his learning abilities, play learning games, and she questioned if there was something out there we could possibly use as a movie viewer while on longer then normal car rides.
Now I know there are probably 107 threads just like this but i felt the need to make a new one. I would really like all opinions so I can better gauge my research before making a purchase.
Clearly an iPad would be a good choice but lets face it folks, I'm not wiping my ass with money.
Any help, kind words and inquires about dating would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time.

I agree with the nexus 7 as suggested by others above.
Its very well designed, with good specs and a nice comfortable size for a child. Also its got a very affordable price tag as well. And its a nexus device which means timely updates. Aaaaand its got the latest and greatest flavour of Android.

How about an e-ink Kindle then? That way he can read even more books. I may be conventional in my views but I believe that cultivating the habit of reading when young is extremely important later on in life. =)
The Kindle Fire is also an option as it'll give your child the opportunity to play games.
the nexus 7 is a good choice; fast and responsive hardware for a fair price
