Hi. My name is Ari and I'm a alcoholic.
Just kidding, but seriously.
Ok here is the deal, like my tittle states I am looking for a reasonable tablet for my son. I will not state his age whereas he is extremely too young for such device, but his mother (my ex), yes I am single PM for details, have agreed it may be a good idea to buy one.
Reasons why we are considering;
To enhance his learning abilities, play learning games, and she questioned if there was something out there we could possibly use as a movie viewer while on longer then normal car rides.
Now I know there are probably 107 threads just like this but i felt the need to make a new one. I would really like all opinions so I can better gauge my research before making a purchase.
Clearly an iPad would be a good choice but lets face it folks, I'm not wiping my ass with money.
Any help, kind words and inquires about dating would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time.

id go with the nexus 7... wouldnt be huge for the hands of a small child, a durable case would be a must, reasonably priced, google updates, etc...
Nexus 7 its only 200$ a good price. It can play many games and stream great video.

I'd say nook color. You can pick one up for 100 bucks, refurbed. It runs cm7 via sd card, and you can just reboot it with out that card, and it boots in to nook is, for a quality ebook experience.

personaly id go for the nexus 7 because of the speed & afordablity also make sure you get a case for it
I agree with the nexus 7 as suggested by others above.
Its very well designed, with good specs and a nice comfortable size for a child. Also its got a very affordable price tag as well. And its a nexus device which means timely updates. Aaaaand its got the latest and greatest flavour of Android.
Sounds like a good deal to me.

How about an e-ink Kindle then? That way he can read even more books. I may be conventional in my views but I believe that cultivating the habit of reading when young is extremely important later on in life. =)
The Kindle Fire is also an option as it'll give your child the opportunity to play games.
the nexus 7 is a good choice; fast and responsive hardware for a fair price

On a boring party?
Follow these steps:
1. Grab your android device
2. Open android market
3. Search for BeerTimer
4. Download BeerTimer
5. Make boring party a success!
No seriously, I have developed an nice little app that lets your android phone time how fast one can drink fluids! It uses your phones acceleration to sense when the table it lays on is being hit.
Usage: Lay phone on a table, hit the table once to start the stopwatch, then again to stop the time. One use is to time how fast one can drink fluids (beer chug game).
Or if you don't drink bear, then it's just a great stopwatch with a beer in the background!

I got a tip about using facebook for scores. And a way to create local tournaments (aka at house party) with dedicated referees. Any thoughts?

If this is a serious question, there is a brief explanation in the app as well in the description.
You have a bottle/can of beer. You hit the table which the phone is running this app on and start to chug the beer. When you are done, you smack the can/bottle in the table and the timer stops.

What do you guys think? Ugly but powerful is what I have to say. Exynos 5 Dual is ARM Cortex A15.
If it is priced correctly then it be awesome, but I don't think Samsung would price it cheaper than Note 10.1, unless they are not direct competitors of each other...
Hey fred. I can't wait for it to be announced on monday (hopefully). I will probably be picking one up. It's not the looks, it's specs that get me. Hell it will be in a case anyway lol
Yeah, I was thinking it looks like a Tab 2/Note 10.1 (blech), but the specs are very appealing.

If they offer more than 16 GB of storage at a reasonable price point I'll replace my Tab2 for this.
Am I the only one glad a manufacturer has finally realized that speakers belong on the front of a device where sound is directed toward the user rather than in some random direction away?
I may get booed for this but I like the phone UI on the N7 and 10. I'm a fan! I wish my 7.7 had that UI. I'm a bigger fan of the specs on the 10. I hope I'm a fan of the price tag though.

Ryan Scott of the CyanogenMod team (you may know him better as ChiefzReloaded) has contracted a rare, flesh-eating virus.
CyanogenMod said:
A member has had a pretty serious problem fall into his lap. +Ryan Scott (aka ChiefzReloaded), a device maintainer, has a rare infection known as Necrotizing Fasciitis. This infection is caused by bacteria that eats skin, fat, and other tissue; it is literally a flesh-eating disease. Ryan is going through the treatments that he needs to keep him alive, but unfortunately, that treatment quickly becomes very expensive to deal with, and it is no exception for Ryan. This disease has placed an incredible strain on him and his family, including his young children. The CyanogenMod team would love to be able to hand out a fistful of cash and help out as much as possible.

Necrotizing fasciitis (/ˈnɛkrəˌtaɪzɪŋ ˌfæʃiˈaɪtɪs/ or /ˌfæs-/) or NF, commonly known as flesh-eating disease or flesh-eating virus, is a rare infection of the deeper layers of skin and subcutaneous tissues, easily spreading across the fascial plane within the subcutaneous tissue.
Necrotizing fasciitis is quickly progressing, having greater risk of developing in the immunocompromised due to conditions like diabetes, cancer, etc. It is a severe disease of sudden onset and is usually treated immediately with high doses of intravenous antibiotics.

I Have already posted this to my friends.
As per the subject heading, the NFL's official app chose to not allow access to users with rooted devices.
It seems more and more app makers (from larger companies) are making this decision, and, obviously, it's lame... and of course they have the right to do this (so please don't argue that point) but it goes against the concept of Android's openness.
So, even if you have no interest in the NFL, I encourage all of you to download the app from the play store and review it at 1 STAR as a sign of protest. I've seen the app's rating go from 4.7 to 4.0 in the last couple days due to all the rooted users protesting the NFL's choice to do this.
Cheers

I'm really considering buying a nexus 5 but I just thought the smart thing to do instead of googling is asking real people how they feel about the phone.
So please tell me your likes and dislikes about this phone!
I have a couple of queries though,
Not being able to touch the battery or ext SD card is a bit concerning because if there is a battery fault or I exceed internal memory, I'm screwed. Is this a real issue or am I not giving Google enough credit???
Thanks

Battery life is surprisingly well on Nexus 5. I was using the HTC one before and it has the same amount of battery but the Nexus 5 is better in my usage. On mid usage you can easily get through full day without charging. The other thing is the camera I know it's only 8mp but it's really not that bad you will be impressed. The most important thing is that the Nexus 5 is the best Android phone until Google releases a new one. You decide.

Just to add:
When your phone is rooted, you easily are able to Flash a new Kernel in order to get an even more perfect battery life.

Dislike:
speakers, headphone jack placement
