On what firmwares, photon q works with lapdock in mirroring mode? On stock all work. Who connected photon q to the lapdock on CM or CARBON?
I'm wondering the same thing many years later. My guess, based on what I've been able to find, is that only works on latest stock rom. (earlier stock roms display only, no keyboard/mouse/sdcard, latest support all hardware). And couldn't find anyone that got webtop to run on PQ. Lotta people with ideas of how to make it work by using atrix version, but couldn't find anyone who did it.
I ran across a lapdock 500 for cheap is the reason I ask.
Well, seems no. Just tried Jellybean, no keyboard/trackpad, and display is very zoomed in, like a resolution problem.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41563237&postcount=10
With CM11, keyboard & touchpad work and mouse pointer appeared on phone screen, but distorted unusable display.
With sfos 3.0.8.9, nothing.
Apparently only the final ICS works, but I haven't tested that yet as I don't have any easy way to install... if anyone actually reads this and has a twrp backup of ics, that would be great. Otherwise I'm gunna have to figure out how to run rsdlite, I think one of my old computers has dual boot to xp on it, I tried rsdlite under wine but it doesnt see my phone.
Finally tested stock ICS, and finally everything works (in mirror mode). It is an exact mirror so in apps that allow landscape, everything looks huge on the screen. Some apps allow you to shrink text within the app (i.e. terminal I could set the font size down) and I'm trying to find a browser that'll let me shrink, but still all the UI headers and gadgets adress bar etc are huge looking and can't do anything about that. On an app that forces portrait, it looks more normal cuz that's similar to the size of a modern phone (although you're then only using ~1/3 of the screen pillarboxed).
I've never used Android this old in my life, not even on PQ. But beside the point.
I don't think anyone cares about this device anymore, but this is annoying me. I just read the wikipedia article and someone (with no reference) had claimed it works with LOS. However my phone with LOS14.1 on it has a battery issue and I'm tired of taking apart these things, and I'm tired of re-installing OSs, I think I wanna keep my others on sfos & stock ics. But someday in the future I will either swap batteries or get another battery and try my LOS14.1 phone with it. Cuz if that works how well whoever put that in wikipedia says, that's awesome.
I never used ICS, I don't even know if I can root it the normal way, dunno if I can use simmod with it... all before my time... so LOS would be great if that works. Plus ics supports even less apps than kitkat.

OK, I confess it... I'm a root-n-rom-aholic! Nook color, my old just-replaced Droid X, and my new Nexus 7 all have had many ROMs, kernels, etc. and I've enjoyed, well, most of it.
Now may be different. For starters, I'm a consultant, my phone is tool first, toy second (tablet the other way around). It HAS to work, which is why I ended up custom ROMing my DX - I went through 4 phones before I realized, its the software, stupid! My N7 allows me to continue what I started with my old Nook, only now making a good machine even better.
With the S3, things are a bit different...
First, the darn thing works pretty well, other than battery life, and that may change with then next OTA update to JB. While I'm not very fond of the old ICS interface, in general, if it ain't broke, don't fix it?
Second, unlike my old DX, its still under guarantee, and while I think I could recover from any 'brick,' there is always the chance of not...
and replacement would NOT be inexpensive.
Third, I don't miss root-level backup as much as I might - because all my apk's are backed up from the N7 installation if I ever needed to recover them; data is another matter, as is setting up my Apex launcher, but all doable if I'm stuck.
Anyway, I think right now I'm going to wait for the OTA to JB, see if 'rooting' is still possible after that, then we'll see..
just my $.02

I'll probably mess around somewhat but I've slowly eased off too. My OG Droid ran every ROM available at one point or another. Working camera? Meh, not a big deal.
My Incredible 2 was a little mroe reserved. It worked well with Sense and i didn't like AOSP on it, thoguht it felt weird. So i stuck with a nearly stock Sense 2.1 setup.
SGS3 is better yet. I want to try AOSP but the epic camera app in TW has me shying away, I don't want to lose those features. Do'nt care about the sharesshot or anything but other things are really awesome. On top of that, it has to be stable and everything has to work.
Running Synergy now, mainly because I got too sick and tired of VZ Backup Assistant Plus trying to back **** up.
I'm with you on staying stock for now. Prior to me going with the iPhone full-time, custom ROMs where the best way for me to get a stable experience on my old devices due to the bloated nature of manufacturer custom skins back in the day.
Now that I switched from the iPhone to Android with the Galaxy S3, I don't feel the need to use a custom ROM to get good performance. The only temptation for me to move to JB is for Google Now, but I don't want to lose some of the features of TouchWiz...namely the camera app.

If you wait until the next OTA, rooting may be likely, but you may be stuck with kexec if it breaks our current method of unlocking the bootloader. Adam Outler specifically stated that flashing the leaked aboot image on an OTA other the our current will most likely brick your GS3, so I'd unlock and root now then wait for the next JB OTA to be ported.

Coming from the OG Droid Incredible I miss some root level things -- but I still haven't rooted yet. I think what I'll do is wait for a stable CM rom to be released, make sure to wait it out a bit for some common problems to occur, then go through it.
Some grips I have about the phone, for example the home button is nice.. there was a physical button on the Dinc, it wasn't anything new. Except the fact it wakes the screen. The phone is in my pocket.. seriously.
Messaging app stinks, but so does everything else on the Play store. CM7 messaging app -- I want that back.
Music player stinks, too much bling. If I wanted power amp, I would buy it (and that's better).
The hardware.. now this is where everything shines. The camera is awesome, fast, no slow downs. The 2GB of RAM is nice too with multiasking.
Playing DK 64 and going back and forth was a dream with my Dinc. Not anymore. USB OTG, even better with my USB drives, keyboard/mouse or even wired controllers.
The phone is great while stock, minus some opinions.. you can't please everyone. Some things deserve a toggle though, such as the home button wake screen = off or on? Choices like that would make the Sammy experience even better.
Stable CM for Verizon will be released sometime.. (hopefully). :good:
Im in love with root level access. I started out with the OG Droid. Went thru 4 of those, on purpose. 3 Droid X. 2 Droid Eris. 2 Droid 2. and got 2 SGS3, one for me and one for my sister.
All of which were rooted and rom'd. All except for my sisters. I see no difference in usability with the S3. Just being rom'd allows me to access options quicker.
I use my phone for work and it has not failed me yet.
Only issues sometimes is the forced reboots.
Every device i have ever owned, i have modified it to allow root access. Computers, Tablets, Apple products, Game consoles, and Android.
Just like you im a root n rom aholic.
So I'm not sure if this is where I post this, but there are 2 things that seem to be missing on every ROM, including the official OTA, that were included on leak 1
A: Lapdock battery, in leak #1 you got a percentage for both lapdock and phone and had a choice to charge the phone or not or even auto based on which had more juice left.
2: Where is the HDMI audio??? Pretty sure it worked on the leak, yet here I am OTA with no lapdock audio unless I set it to phone speaker.
I apologize if this is posted against the rules, feel free remove, edit, move, delete or whatever. I just thought all devs should know these are features that should be included in every ROM released for our phone. If anyone disagrees please post a reply
I'm on leak #2, and lapdock audio is just fine for me... (not that i'd ever want to use it)
This belongs in Q&A. And I hate to tell you but the devs have no control over stock motorola built roms, if it does not work in stock, then we will not be able to make it work in a custom rom.
I guess that app scaling would have to be a some kind of totally custom build after bootloader unlock then? Or more likely not until Google themselves make it a feature of Android , with nearly all with nearly all new devices featuring some form of HDMI out...

Not unless Motorola releases the lapdock and dock code as opensource, and all the kernel code as well. This is really not likely, so don't hold your breath, and this really has nothing to do with Google, as they have said a billion times that Motorola is going be it's own entity, for now.
I mean that they should do away with webtop, and make hdmi out on all Android devices the same with the ability to rescale apps on the fly. I guess the problem is actually occurring when changing apps between tablet and phone versions.
hi..
i'm getting this phone since i was tired waiting for the JB port for the captivate glide (and i mean a port which actually works with bluetooth phone), plus, i see that it seems to have a faster processor, and actually official support for JB) still i don't understand why it's considered low activity legacy device. (i don't care much about the camera, at most i just do portal submission to google. )
Um, not to be rude, but where's the question? lol
It's specs are rather mid-range, the keyboard is very niche by now.. so it's a low activity device due to its low popularity?
why it's considered low activity legacy device?
is no one using it?

it's a niche device. far less popular than the big names like galaxy s3/s4, htc one, xperia z etc etc
so is the captivate glide i assume...
and yet it has it's own forum..

uh, yes, and this is relay's own. doesn't really matter where they put it...
We didn't choose to put the device here. The mods did.
We're lucky to even have a forum. Despite the fact that low end phones which you've never heard of got forums before they even launched, the mods decided that the Relay was not popular enough to have one. Even once we had a booting CM9 ROM. After 6 months of complaints, they finally gave us one. But they put it here.
Previously we were squatting in another device's forum, so this is an improvement.
but it still looks better then the captivate glide..
i mean it has an OFFICIAL jellybean, and i'm assuming someone made it a stock rom of jelly bean. it has a better processor even.
what i don't understand is why do you even NEED a section of low activity devices, i mean it's not like you don't have enough ROOM on the internet like a library or something.

Well, I don't know what you'd have us do about it. No one here had anything to do with the decision, or possesses the power to change it.

Aye, and to your earlier point we worked hard to get us our own little space.
Had the device gotten it's own forum at launch or before it, popularity would be higher... but that's a cause and effect issue that's long past debating.
Woot.
We got a forum!

I'm going to try something outrageous and attempt to whore this thread to ON topic ..
I'm thinking about swtiching from the captivate glide for the same reasons, i want a jellybean phone with working bluetooth and a physical qwerty keyboard.
How do you relay 4g owners find the keyboard vs. the glide ? easier to type?
How are the cases, number row easy to access?
How are the Rom's ... Fully working, issues ??
I'm pretty comfortable with my phone but i've never been "in love" with teh keyboard like I was on a blackberry.. .i find the keys are too spaced apart and too big for typing without looking at the keyboard.
speed performance etc are great.
camera spec shows 5mp camera vs. 8mp. How are the quality of the pictures vs the glides ??
Thanks much!
my impression were (i've ditched it and returned to glide)
the keyboard does seem easier to type, and glide buttons seem harder to press, i keep getting my fingers stuck in the middle between the keys. the numbers row are easy access cases seem solid.
roms however are a problem, i'm talking about the stock roms as i havn't been able nor to root, or intstall a rom. there seems to be a wifi issue that keeps getting the phone disconnected and re-connected, making internet connection impossible, initially i thought it might be my AP acting up, but the glide didn't have any issues. only the relay.
another main problem, is that performance, or lack of it. to tell you the truth , i didn't notice any difference, in fact it might have been more sluggish then the glide. this off course might have been an issue with all the bloatware i couldn't uninstall not being root, however i noticed that with jellybean you specify disable on each service, and that might have been helfull.
my attempts at doing root, failed. i tried using CWM, (there seems to be only one version for this phone) however this particualr cwm fails at installing everything else on signature verification message. in other cwm mods, and twrp you can disable signature verification, but they are all being installed with cwm (not odin flashable).
in the end i tried re-flashing the rom with JB, and ended up with wel..not a brick, but ever since then, i can't seem to dial out. there internet seems to be working over the sim card, but not dialing. i'm not sure if i should get another phone to try again, as there doesn't seem to be much support, actually i didn't even see any "bare boned" rooted stable non-alpha roms for this thing yet (or ever be). like the glide has.
as for the camera, i realy don't think there's a difference between 5 and 8 mp, i didn't see any difference.
in short, hardware the phone seems fine, however the rom ,root, etc.. lack of it) doesn't seem to be very common, as of know i'm not sure if i should get another one and try again, or hold off and see if it dies.

I moved to this phone from the samsung epic. I loved that phone and wanted something similar so I got the relay on a whim. I was able to root and install cm with little trouble. The keyboard is nice but I think the droid 4 keyboard feels nicer. My fiancee has the droid 4, however, and the phone has had many problems with it. Some chargers do not fit well in port, thus not charging the phone. Also the phone gets really hot and read somewhere sometimes this melts stuff inside, thus phone not charging the phone as well. Overall relay is boss, although I rooted and flashed everything before official jb update. So not sure what that entails. The new kernel is still iffy for me. Getting "...not responding" messages for several apps stock and otherwise, but running 6.19 build and everything is smooth.

Hey guys,
With the communities help, I've rooted my phone, and have begun experimenting with roms, I'm pretty excited about all this -- but so far, I haven't found one yet that meets my needs.
The only roms I could even find are the ones linked to by this thread. But I can't comment there because I'm an uber-n00b. **** yeah, n00b status! XD
So here's some of the issues I'm having, maybe someone can point me in the right direction:
I'm using CWM to flash roms, and I can't flash the "Debloated Jelly Bean stock image" linked to in that thread, CWM tells me there's an error in the zip halfway through. Though if I do an "unzip -test" on it from the command line, it verifies okay -- so I'm guessing the package is either borked, or intended to be used differently than how I'm trying to use it.
That being said, I've had great success flashing the unofficial, and experimental Cyanogen 10.1s -- but none of them that I have tested have all of the features I want working. Is there a recommended version? The features I want are pretty basic things:
First and foremost: Wi-Fi tethering (I'd pay for it if T-mobile had an option for it, but they don't -- not on unlimited anyway -- and I always hit my data-cap even without tethering, if I went on a non-unlimited plan, it would cost me $20/more a month and for about the last 10-15 days of each month I'd be stuck on EDGE/2G -- to me, that's unacceptable.)
Being able to connect to Wi-Fi networks (obviously not at the same time as tethering, but I expect both to work).
GPS
Bluetooth!! (The latest "stable" the Unofficial 13-03-09 does not appear to be able to connect to my headset.)
The Stock Clock: Alarms App (Also seems to be broken in the 13-03-09 release.)
And obviously: Calling, Texting, Camera, Flashlight
Basic Battery Stuff (Latest "stable" and nightlies both have issues with determining if the battery charger is connected or not, reboot seems to fix it most of the time).
The one thing I don't use (that I know about) on my phone is NFC. I like the idea of NFC, especially to pay for things, I just have never bothered to **** with it to set it up.
So, Is there a list of the nightlies and like some quick indicators that say which key features are working or not? If not, I might be willing to set one up for the most recent ones (at least until I find one that has features that I want all working more or less). If this already exists though, it would be a great time saver. If not, is anyone willing to help me set this up? The testing will go a lot better with >1 person testing things.
I figure stock does almost everything I need except tethering, but I can't figure out how to get the debloated stock rom on, and installing the tethering fix for regular stock (or Cyanogen for that matter) just makes the phone not boot.
Thanks for reading, any thoughts / comments -- and even moreso: answers -- are greatly appreciated. [And hopefully, none of the above is taken as criticism to anyone, as it's not meant that way, clearly, I'm a little frustrated, but I'm also very much excited to be finally modding my phone, and it wouldn't be possible without all the community support that has gone into this development!]
DERP
OH MAN! I just flashed the MC5 modem; BLUETOOTH WORKS NOW ON THE UNOFFICIAL 2013-03-09 RELEASE!
I haven't tested everything yet, but pretty much everything seems to be working now it seems!!! :good::good::fingers-crossed::good::good:
Man, I wish this was all in a guide somewhere so that I wouldn't have to stumble around in the dark like this. :silly:
I got Gt-i5800 for free a couple of days ago.. locked..no sim..slow. Wiping and updating to 2.3 through samsung kies and using orange sim sorted my problem.
I noticed it came stock with a youtube app and also that video didnt work online, but i'm finding many games to be unplayable. Backgrounds missing and white boxes where floating objects would be. Interestingly plague inc works near perfect(no map colour)
It doesn't support flash and it seems to be missing chunks of openGL libraries(the phone in general, not just mine)
..So is this phone really as bad as I think? Spica seemed much more accessible
Hope I'm wrong

It's OK.. I'm saying I got the phone with samsung's stock 2.2 and updated it to 2.3 through samsung kies.. I expected that to fix video/graphics but all it seems to have done is colour my menu and take up nearly all phone storage (after play/apps updates)
..So I guess I'm asking 'Is this normal?' I wanna check everyone else's phone was as useless as mine, before I go flashing roms and potentially making it worse
If its not cyanogenmod, its not 2.3. There is no 2.3 through kies on this device. But I noticed no probs with cyanogenmod

 My bad.. I meant 2.1 to 2.2..
I was thinking of getting Cy's mod. Does it increase gaming performance at all? Can't seem to get my head round this open gl thing. Pretty sure it's just drivers missing, but the way it looks now(nearly no apps work) theres no java, html or flash support.

I am using Cyanogen Mod 7 (2.3) and it's pretty fast and my battery lasts double than that of 2.2, I don't if this happens to anyone else too.
The gaming performance will probably be reduced since the drivers were not 100% implemented. A few games work without lag.
All my apps work without any issue.
Lol galaxy gt-i5800 isn't really usefull for gaming it has a very slow processor and just switching through taps and apps let it laggs :l If you want to do a lot with your phone then you need to buy a better one
It's working fine (the d/l bar just reset once on odin) installing kyrillos 9!
