I've been reading this forum for a couple of days and I'm quite surprised by the number of threads about problems.
It seems that people here moan a lot.
I blamed this on the usual post bias: you are more likely to post if you have problems.
However, I was just over at the Galaxy S II forum and you can't help but notice that people moan a LOT less.
So are sensation users more demanding?
I love Sense (I have a Desire) and Touchwiz seems like a major downgrade, but I'm getting worried.
Is browsing really that slow? Is reception really that bad? The screen lag mystery? Camera crashed? Or are HTC users spoiled?

No one is maoning. My experience with Sensation? Fast browsing, normal reception. What about screen lag? Camara never crashed.
Maybe htc sell a lot of phone, sensation in this case, and some of this got bugs. Is a question of percentage... I think.
Same here....I have no major complaints...I must admit I fond some people here far too anal about little things....but hey...each to their own.

There are 2700 threads in the GSII general and q&a forums combined, but only 373 threads in the Sensation general. My guess is any problem with the GSII has already been discussed to death, but the Sensation is in fewer hands and thus people start threads to find out if anyone else is experiencing their issues.
It was once noticed by a marketing firm (Publicis or one of those) that for every good comment (review or feedback) there are 200 bad comments. I dunno if that is true and the independent sources that verify that as an average seem right.
So no...not picky. But people just don't rave as much, usually because the "fanboy" accusation is quick to drop.
Of course most who have problems are looking for solutions, even though the "troll" reference is also quick to drop, it just doesn't have the same effect when someone is desperate to find help.
But that is just my opinion.
Just remember that most people will only post if they have a problem..people who like their phone will be too busy with the phone

Have you seen the front page of the SGS2 forum? On any given day it looks like a horror movie. Unfortunately people come to forums to problem solve and share issues so the bad typically outweigh the good 5:1. Just wait until the T-Mobile U.S. folks start getting the phone. Your ranks will quadruple overnight. Just look at the post counts on the O2X vs. G2X forums and the O2X was out first. The more people, the more "discussion."
I too noticed that the overall morale has been quite low. I was a bit shocked and now I'm waiting to hear more reviews.
Before getting a new phone I usually browse the respected XDA sub forum beforehand lol.. I've seen poor reception before but this takes the cake. I certainly hope this phone isn't that shabby. I really want it but now I'm second guessing things!

And don't forget that the unlocked, unbranded european version hasn't been released yet - its release date is soon, June 29th. HTC made a (pretty uncommon) deal with Vodafone for one-month carrier exclusivity. And while the Vodafone-version is unlocked, I (and I'm sure others do, too)don't want a phone that has any carrier-specific firmware preinstalled. I'd rather wait these final three weeks till the Sensations regular release

Take a look at the DHD thread! The Sensation is a brand new phone. Here in Italy arrived only last week! Cannot compare.
I think some people are being really picky about some of these issues. It's only been out two weeks, and it's not even released sim free in Europe and not launched at all in the US. Once those two things happen, we'll see a lot more discussion and hopefully an OTA update to fix most, if not all, of the bugs Remember that the Galaxy S II has had some OTA's to fix the bugs It happens with everything...video games, especially...bugs are found, a patch/update is released to fix them.

HTC certainly aren't spoiled (former HTC touch diamond 2 owner), I think the number of complaints are in relation to the number of XDA users who have had problems with their phones. I'm sure the ratio of complaints to praise would be higher if people who have had a purely positive experience thought to themselves, I'll start a thread on XDA praising the HTC sensation" but that seems unlikely. If they aren't complaining on the GSII forum it might be they don't feel slightly betrayed by the locked boot loader, 180 on boot loader policy and then delay/lack of info on unlocking the already shipped units.
But that's just my two cents
Dust Under Screen Of HTC Sensation
Hi guys,
I bought my HTC Sensation on Friday in Ireland and on Sunday noticed at least three seperate spots of dust under the screen and one possible dead pixel!!? After paying €480 for this phone I was not impressed at all.
I went back this morning to where I bought it and asked them to replace the phone, they refused and said they had to send it back to HTC for them to check it?? Should I be entitled to a new Sensation? I need my phone for work e-mail as well as the Internet.
Other than that I have not any any other major issues, sometimes there is a little lag on menu transitions that you would not excpect to see on a dual core phone!
Cheers,
M

Actually I wrote this post after having a look at the SGS2 forum. Out of a whim you might say.... And I was very surprised by the "low moan" ratio.
I'll have to wait till the end of July to upgrade anyways and I'll see where this goes. As a very happy Desire owner I'd rather stick with HTC. But now I'm kind of glad that I have to wait a bit for the upgrade.
I want to see how this plays out

Hi everyone,
I have an opportunity to buy an HP Touchpad for quite cheap (about $100 for a 16GB wifi) but after doing some research it kind of looks like WebOS is dying. I've had a hard time even tracking down an ereader app, and the only one I've found looks a bit questionable in terms of tablet-optimization. It would be great if I could just install Android on it, but it doesn't look like that's possible. So, basically what I'm wondering is whether WebOS–particularly as a tablet platform–is likely to grow and improve very much, or is it really as dead-in-the-water as it looks? I know you guys might be a bit biased, but I figure you also have much better knowledge of the OS than I do .

Also you can check at precentral Forum at Touchpad section and you will find everything about the HP Touchpad overthere.
WebOS has the full support of HP.
dont listen to the haters out there, remember when android first came out.
Everyone said "they will never make it, apple has the market locked up" and now look @ the market share android controls. Remember that the TP, VEER and Pre3 are first gen HP WebOS devices. Palm is gone along with the hardware. The WebOS ecosystem will be a major player in the enterprise market and consumer as well.
Unlike WP7, HP makes hardware and that is a huge advantage imop. android is everywhere, but the experience varies by manufacture. HP is creating a family of WebOS products that all have the same great experience and the will talk to each other. I dream of the day when my WebOS refridgerator that is synced with my phone will allow me to answer a call, order pizza, alert me of a text or email and all kinds of things. i know it sounds crazy, but electronics, appliances and cars all synced in one ecosystem would rule!

Man, I feel for you... it's not often someone has the Cajones to show up on a forum days later and say "bow, was I wrong"....
Honestly, I just used my first WebOS device days ago. Not a Touchpad, an original PRE... I can see why it failed.... and why it had promise. The device was neat, but too quirky. I got it set up and working for a friend, and actually usable thanks to the folks over at webos internals...
Now, as far as HP's closing of the WebOS unit.. and their promise to monetize it.... In the current mobile tech climate, it's BLATANTLY OBVIOUS why they did this.
They JUST realized that WebOS/Palm is worth more as a patent portfolio than as any actual production. Expect one of two outcomes shortly:
1) Lawsuits...
or
2) Portfolio Bidding War...
Both strategies are going to earn HP enormously more shareholder value than continuing to struggle along. Though, I hear echos of Monty Python's "'Tis but a Flesh Wound" and "I'm not dead yet!" in the distance. Good lord, look how long it took Amiga or OS/2 to die.
if i was a dying phone company (looking at you Nokia!!) i'd seriously consider buying WebOS....a truly unique system

I think Nokia is dead in the water. They are not that great with updating OSes.
Take symbian for example. Nokia taking up WebOS would be like tying 2 anchors together.
LOL, reading this thread makes me giggle. It's funny how people are saying webOS is alive and kicking and then all of a sudden HP throws it away.
Very unexpected and tragic. But with android and iOS dominating everything, it was a matter of time.
I wouldn't take HP's action today as a referendum on WebOS. As a matter of fact, WebOS is the one thing that they are holding on to. What they are dropping is their entire consumer product line. That's all tablets, desktops, and laptops. They sold half a billion dollars worth of product in that division last year, but the margins are too small and the risk is high with so much competition. This is about much more than lackluster sales for WebOS products (which haven't even been on the market for six months).
The question is, if HP's not building WebOS hardware, who is?

Not a snowball's chance. None of the carriers wanted it, that's why only Orange in the UK offered it.
All of the US carriers smelled bad news earlier this year; Sprint publicly announced that they were done with webOS. Verizon, TMobile and ATT didn't even bother to make a statement.
As a 15 yr Palm fanatic, it's a sad end to Palm. Wonder what we'll see next from Jeff Hawkins and team? He did lead the design of the first iPad back in 1989, manufactured by Samsung and sold as the GRiDPad.
mourning Touchpad demise
i bought a touchpad 13 days ago from staples. 32gb for $399! it was a steal. I wasn't sure about keeping it or not but the more i read, the more i believed that HP would see this project (webOS) out to success, that they would continue to develop an amazing operating system. but after today's news it was a no brainer not to keep my TP. Luckily Staples offers a 14 day return policy so i returned that sucker post haste! im still pretty peeved though, in those 13 days i really came to love webOS. oh well this is what i get for turning my back on android. any good suggestions for android tablets?
Hp is dropping webos, but it should be possible to get android running on the touchpad via the same methods they got ubuntu running on it. What would be better would be webos on my dinc2 but alas...

Trolling, stupid, or both.
For some reason people associate sales figures with quality, I never understood that...
Look at cinema as an example, or music, to demonstrate how demonstrably fallacious that is.
Just to point out the Lumia 800 is sold out pretty much everywhere in the UK and most stores are on their 3rd or 4th delivery.
Said it before and will say it again, the Lumia 800 is Windows Phone's Nexus One. I'd be very surprised if we don't see a jump in WP market share by the end of the year.

Nokia's great smartphone hope, the Windows Phone 7.5-equipped Lumia 800, was released earlier this month to rave critical reviews and much fanfare. However, a new analyst report says that all of the hubbub surrounding the Lumia 800 hasn't resulted in mind-blowing sales numbers, and that Nokia has only sold a relative handful of Lumia 800 smartphones.
According to the Pacific Crest Securities analyst firm, Nokia may have shipped less than 1 million Windows Phone smartphones for the quarter, with only 500,000 sold to end-users. This is a bit of a surprise, as Nokia itself has said in the past that the Lumia 800 has been very popular and well received with consumers. Nokia also has the backing of most major carriers in the markets that the Lumia 800 has launched, so its supposed poor sales performance is disappointing in light of that as well.
The report of lower-than-expected Lumia sales has caused Nokia's stock to tumble by about six percent. The Lumia 800 retails for about 420 EUR (US$567) in the markets where it is available. It has not been announced for the U.S. market yet, but Nokia says that it will bring a portfolio of smartphones to the U.S. in early 2012. [via Bloomberg]
Actually, sales numbers are a fairly good indicator of some quality of success, assuming there isn't a government contract or other bogus (event giveaways counted as sales; shipped devices to retailers counted as sales, etc) things are mixed in. For example, when Google claims 500,000 activations per day, that's proof of a success. When Apple claims 4 MILLION activations in a weekend, that my friend, is success.
Microsoft has still not released -any- sales numbers from their wp7 division. This is an indicator of a failure at some point in the chain.
One of the comments is bang on, 500000 in less than a week.
I'd like to see androids initial numbers as well for the first year.
Rome wasn't built in a day
Don't look at it as just negative, 500,000 for any WP7 is good. That's probably more than all the other OEMs combined.

I don't understand why people speak so highly of Nokia Lumia. Nokia Lumia is never the Godfather of Windows Phone, what about HD7, Omnia 7 and Optimus 7?
I don't think Nokia Lumia 710 and 800 is that great and should be made reference to the Nexus, at least not yet. Lumia 800 is more like the HTC Dream for Android.
In other words, the Lumia 800 just can't set itself apart from other WP7 phones yet. (For the record, I owned the HTC Radar now. Personally I don't like Nokia Lumia's design)

ok let me understand how this world works. If I'm not kissing up to this platform, I'm spreading hate?
I just want to be clear, posting facts like the N8 sold more than the Lumia, is hate.
Posting news like
http://m.guardian.co.uk/technology/2011/nov/23/nokia-lumia-800-iphone-4s?cat=technology&type=article
is that hate?
It's interesting that the analyst released his predictions on the same day that Nokia increased it's orders from Compal for Lumia handsets due to "higher than expected sales".
It's also interesting that these analysts are comparing the Lumia 800 (which AFAIK has only been launched in 6 territories?) to the iPhone 4S (22 territories at launch, a further 15 followed on November 14th).
I'm not trying to suggest that the Lumia has attained 4S level sales where it's been on sale, just trying to bring in a bit of perspective to the sales figures that have been talked about. Even if these predictions are right, they are pretty good sales figures. IIRC people were talking about 1-1.5 million WP7 sales worldwide in Q4 last year? If Nokia are able to sell between 1/3rd and 2/3rds of that figure with a single handset, and in less than half of WP7 territories then they've done pretty well.
Regardless, they can't expect a year old platform to skyrocket market share wise..
None of them has, android or iPhone included..
They were still in the 5 percent range.
If by the end of next year it gets to around 10%, it is doing quite well.
It is a young os, the issue is people are comparing it to 5 year old operating systems in terms of success.
Be realistic now

I was checking Gizmodo when I found this link. Seems LG suck everywhere since they didn't sell many WP7 mobiles, so they decided to halt WP7 development which means we got more free developers on our side from now. I just hope that they don't focus on new devices and focus more on the unfinished products they have.
What I think is now is the right time to spam their FB page and all other mails/branches with the ghost call issue hoping the would put it on their road plan.

I dont think that's good news, they dropped supporting on those phones meaning they can drop support on O3D as well. They just want to churn out useless phones with no regards for customers from previous phones.
Regarding FB spamming been doing that with many others since last few months and only got 2 response from tons of msgs left there. SO they dont care.
Lastly i'm trying to get rid of my o3d to get the samsung galaxy SIII when it comes out. Was gonna go for HTC one X but checking their forum shows many issues of poor quality built on that phone as well.

Yes, look at nokia they kept dumping products on customers. We, N900 owners were left unsupported within months of launching their flagship N900. They dropped the ball on that phone and only the community was making software for it. I'm glad nokia is in deep $hit.
I hope LG gets what's its due to them soon.
BTW i wouldn't recommend HTC especially after reading topics in ONE X forums. I was planning on going that route myself but seems the quality is bad on that phone. If you're lucky you'll get few problems at start. Many have already returned and got new sets, some even multiple times. There is a thread about returning / replacing phones and it's 27pages already. Some are replacing it and some are getting refunds for the Flagship HTC one X phone.
Galaxy siii is looking to be the one for me
After 4 years of owning an iPhone, I have reached Day 30 of owning an Android phone - specifically, the HTC One X. Why is 30 days noteworthy? Because I have 30 days after buying a new phone to return it to AT&T if I am unhappy - so, if I'm going to go back to the iPhone, it would have to be later today.
I'll go ahead and spoil the ending for you: I'm keeping the HTC One X. If you're curious as to why, read on!

If you aren't, well, I'm glad I didn't waste your time. To be honest, this post ended up much longer than I expected it to be, so it's hard to blame you.
Great read!
It's really refreshing to see honest comparison between IOS and Android.

Thanks!
What a great read. I have been an Android user since coming from WM6.5. Flashing roms, tweaking and customizing way into the early hours of the morning had eventually gotten to me and I was very tempted to jump ship to iOS. I knew however that the tinkerer in my would soon feel very limited and I wouldn't be happy in the long run. The HOX has been awesome! CleanRom 3 is buttery smooth as far as I can tell so far and I eagerly await any sign of an official CM9. I found a lot of parallels in your post and smiled!
Great article, I am in the same boat as you I compleatly agree with you especially this quote.
...iOS is what Apple wants it to be and Android is, for better or worse, what you make of it

What a great read! Very comprehensive and without even the slightest hint of bias! Glad you decided to stay with the One X.
I had an iPhone 4S for a few months and I loved it, but I missed an awful lot of the little features that make Android well... Android. I think iOS is great, and the iPhone is an awesome, awesome device, but there really is just so much more you can do with a high end Android phone that you can't do with an iPhone.
I am right there with you on tablets, I have (and love) an iPad and just see no need for the level of customization that Android offers. On a phone it makes sense because you are on it ALL THE TIME but a tablet you pick up, do one thing on and then put it down, and for that the iPad is perfect for me.
Congrats man! I did the same thing, so I know its a big deal
I'm about to go pick up a HTC oneX today to see if I like it. If not, SGS3 for me.
You made me realize that I've had my phone for a lot longer than I thought. I got it on launch day may 6. For some reason it didn't feel like I was past the return window.
I have a similar experience as this is my first paid android experience.
I honestly don't think I'm switching to another operating system for a while. Android is going to keep getting better.

Dude, very nice read... How did you manage to steal my thoughts? ....I too moved from iOS after 4.5 years....And, followed similar line of thoughts before moving to HTC One X..
Just read the article and it was super interesting to me because I basically went through the same. exact. process.
Had my 3GS for years and was due for an upgrade but the One X pulled me in. I bought it with time to return if I was blown away after WWDC just like you. I'm finding myself with the same conclusions that you came to and totally agree with everything you talked about.
It was scarier than I thought it would be transitioning out of the iOS ecosystem, but I'm glad I did it. I also find that I use my iPad for unitasking like you described.
Great read.. I wish articles would be written like this. I'm so tired of the fanbois on all the tech websites that all claim that their os is better and are so ignorant... It was nice to read an article that lists the strengths of both iOS and android.

what's awesome about that article is it's a forum post on the Verge. I wish it would get picked up and put on their front page because it's a really nice piece of writing.

Wow, thanks for that I admit it'd be awesome to see my post make their front page - one of the reasons I love The Verge is that they do often highlight outstanding forum posts. And, overall, it just has a great community of people.

Yeah, it varies from post to post, but you're right, it's gotten noticeably worse over time. I've been pleasantly surprised by the reasonable responses to my post, though.
Of course, I do wonder if the responses would be...less pleasant if I'd posted them in the Apple section.
Just brought home my one X, now I know why you made the change!!
Interesting read.
Wondering from the screenshot, how do you get all the shortcuts on the bottom bar?
