After 4 years of owning an iPhone, I have reached Day 30 of owning an Android phone - specifically, the HTC One X. Why is 30 days noteworthy? Because I have 30 days after buying a new phone to return it to AT&T if I am unhappy - so, if I'm going to go back to the iPhone, it would have to be later today.
I'll go ahead and spoil the ending for you: I'm keeping the HTC One X. If you're curious as to why, read on!

If you aren't, well, I'm glad I didn't waste your time. To be honest, this post ended up much longer than I expected it to be, so it's hard to blame you.
Great read!
It's really refreshing to see honest comparison between IOS and Android.

Thanks!
What a great read. I have been an Android user since coming from WM6.5. Flashing roms, tweaking and customizing way into the early hours of the morning had eventually gotten to me and I was very tempted to jump ship to iOS. I knew however that the tinkerer in my would soon feel very limited and I wouldn't be happy in the long run. The HOX has been awesome! CleanRom 3 is buttery smooth as far as I can tell so far and I eagerly await any sign of an official CM9. I found a lot of parallels in your post and smiled!
Great article, I am in the same boat as you I compleatly agree with you especially this quote.
...iOS is what Apple wants it to be and Android is, for better or worse, what you make of it

What a great read! Very comprehensive and without even the slightest hint of bias! Glad you decided to stay with the One X.
I had an iPhone 4S for a few months and I loved it, but I missed an awful lot of the little features that make Android well... Android. I think iOS is great, and the iPhone is an awesome, awesome device, but there really is just so much more you can do with a high end Android phone that you can't do with an iPhone.
I am right there with you on tablets, I have (and love) an iPad and just see no need for the level of customization that Android offers. On a phone it makes sense because you are on it ALL THE TIME but a tablet you pick up, do one thing on and then put it down, and for that the iPad is perfect for me.
Congrats man! I did the same thing, so I know its a big deal
I'm about to go pick up a HTC oneX today to see if I like it. If not, SGS3 for me.
You made me realize that I've had my phone for a lot longer than I thought. I got it on launch day may 6. For some reason it didn't feel like I was past the return window.
I have a similar experience as this is my first paid android experience.
I honestly don't think I'm switching to another operating system for a while. Android is going to keep getting better.

Dude, very nice read... How did you manage to steal my thoughts? ....I too moved from iOS after 4.5 years....And, followed similar line of thoughts before moving to HTC One X..
Just read the article and it was super interesting to me because I basically went through the same. exact. process.
Had my 3GS for years and was due for an upgrade but the One X pulled me in. I bought it with time to return if I was blown away after WWDC just like you. I'm finding myself with the same conclusions that you came to and totally agree with everything you talked about.
It was scarier than I thought it would be transitioning out of the iOS ecosystem, but I'm glad I did it. I also find that I use my iPad for unitasking like you described.
Great read.. I wish articles would be written like this. I'm so tired of the fanbois on all the tech websites that all claim that their os is better and are so ignorant... It was nice to read an article that lists the strengths of both iOS and android.

Yeah, it varies from post to post, but you're right, it's gotten noticeably worse over time. I've been pleasantly surprised by the reasonable responses to my post, though.
Of course, I do wonder if the responses would be...less pleasant if I'd posted them in the Apple section.
Just brought home my one X, now I know why you made the change!!
Interesting read.
Wondering from the screenshot, how do you get all the shortcuts on the bottom bar?

I just wanted to say, if your iPhone did it so well, then go back to your iPhone.
So many people that are coming from Apple don't understand the significance of having a phone that is this customizable and open source to boot. One problem with the device and they want to return it to the store.
There will be problems. If you decide to flash a custom ROM to your phone, there will probably be a few more. You surely remember flashing your iPhone with a new ROM for the first time...right?
Oh, that's right, you couldn't.
iPhone users are sure a different breed. So many wants, so little appreciation. (Also, I'm not calling out EVERY iPhone user on the planet, you all know who you are)
The Captivate is a really, really, nice phone. I don't look at the OS on the phone as something Samsung has anything to do with either, which a lot of people seem to do around these forums.
I purchased this phone, because I have wanted a phone that natively runs Android. I have had Android running on my old HTC kaiser(which is 1000% better than Windows Mobile and keeps the phone current), and my HTC Rhodium. The passion and dedication of Android developers and the willingness of Android adopters to help in any way they can is amazing.
Anyways, I will wait for new ROMs to be released for this phone, and I will be happy with the fact that there will be ROMs for this phone, that it has a stunning display, and that most if not all the shortcomings of the phone will be short lived by the persistently dedicated developers out there. The hardware is great, the OS is great, and will get better over time.
Now, AT&T where is my 4g...
Well said. Now the ROM waiting begins...
I agree 100%! I also had a mini rant regarding everyone looking at their antenna and TRYING to lose bars. Just use the damn phone. If you drop a call, that is a problem. Until then, enjoy it!
lol n1. i hope talking it out helped.

I'm not mad, I just hate having to click through all these threads that people make asking the same questions over and over again and complaining about the same things.
well put !
This thread is great! This OS will evolve and it will change to what the users want and what doesn't get built in the OS most likely will be filled with an app or customized ROMs. I came from an iPhone 3G. I skipped the 3GS upgrade because I wasn't convinced Apple would make significant strides. With this upgrade, I could have went with iPhone 4. Its a nice looking device but I don't want to be shackled by their restrictions. Over a 2 year period they added what...a front facing camera, multitasking and folders??? GIVE ME A BREAK.
you said that perfectly and you know how some people switched from iphone 4 to this and they complain about no flash well all the other iphones didn't have flash either just to put it out there
I am going to wait and skip this phone. Within a few months they will come out with a 1024 x 760 or whatever the new Gingerbread resolution is.... Then I will sell my iPhone 4 and jump back into the fun world of flashing ROM's. That is the only thing I miss about all of my old windows Mobile device..... OH and I did miss the xda-developers for the few years I was away
@dewt
I completely agree with you.. all the points you have made.
If you wanna say "but my iPhone..." stick to your iPhone and let Steve jobs exploit you the way he wants..
Come on... its hard to think that so many ppl are caught under his spell..
I mean come on.. WAT can you do with an iphone??? .. except make and receive (... oh wait a moment...) .. calls???. there is nothing customizable in an iPhone. i got bored within 15 minutes using an iPhone.
I guess i lost all my respect for Apple products bcoz of Steve Jobs attitude(hold the phone different... other phones also face this issue... come on). i feel sorry for his engineers though.
I feel proud to have bought the fastest android device presently and i can live with some imperfections (in fact i love working my way around if i cant figure out things.) Dont you guys think that it makes you learn more stuff.
Google rocks!.. Android is the best eva!! i think with time things will only get better with Android..
This thread is entirely unnecessary and as bad as iPhone owners complaining about the Captivate. I for one have seen almost no threads where someone was saying their iPhone was better and the Captivate couldn't do something. Don't piss off the Captivate community, because a LARGE number of people in the Captivate community seem to be coming from iPhones because this is the first decent Android phone that AT&T has offered. So far I've heard almost nothing but mature conversations between iPhone and Captivate owners until this one. Just a few people coming from iPhones or thinking about coming from an iPhone and wanting to know what the Android OS is capable of and if it will do everything they want so they can decide if they want to swap.

what you say makes sense. But my opinion was tied to the comments i hear from my friends who use iPhones.. so nothing against ppl participating in this community.
definitely have to agree with dewt on this, why? I'm the most anti-iPhone person I know, but I came from WinMo (see sig) and you know what, I love this phone. Sure there are a ton of features missing right now, but that's RIGHT NOW. I know it's gonna get bigger and better, so why complain about things? You know what you should be doing instead of whinning about features that aren't on the phone.... going through posts, searching the internet, asking around and finding out HOW to get them on the phone like I have been! I loved being able to view my Excel docs, so I found a way to have them sync'd online directly from my desktop PC with Offisync, then view them with the Google Docs app.... wow, so difficult....
Bottom line, if you're gonna complain, first think about the fact that you may be complaining for no reason if there is an app, setting, or work-around available. Next, take the iPhone out of your @$$, sit down for once, and relax!!!
Just to clarify, this post does not only extend to people on this forum. All of the iPhone users that I know personally would not even entertain the idea of switching to another phone. Laugh at it really. Even when presented with facts.
I'm just sayin'.
I'll tell you what though. Being a user of both, the Android fanboys are MUCH worse than the iPhone fanboys now. In the past couple of months the Android fanboys have gotten incredibly obnoxious, and it's posts like this, in our own message board, where you still have to try and tell iPhone users how stupid they are that do it. Why don't you just grow up and let people choose what they like and be done. There's no reason that any iPhone user needs to entertain the idea of switching. If they are happy, then good for them, leave them alone. Trust me, I like the customizability of Android quite a bit, that's why I have an Android phone now that AT&T has one worth buying. A lot of people don't give a damn if you can root your phone and make it install apps that the iPhone doesn't have. These topics aren't necessary and only make it worse.

You havto agree tht Android is a competitor for iPhone and now when Android market is growing bigger, the iPhone users (3G , 3GS and 4) are always trying to condescend on the android users which should not be the case!

being a girl means nothing. this video looks blah, 7 minutes; wont even bother watching this video.

if YOU like the nexus s, just get it.. you don't need any of our approvals to get the phone.
i personally like it and so do many of the users here with the exception of the j0hnz troll and some other guys.
if you end up NOT liking the phone, just return it.... its not that complicated.
Just go with your gut feeling. Don't second guess yourself. If you've shown this much interest into the nexus s, then give it a try. Like zephik said, you could always return it. Everyone has their own opinion. Let us know yours.

The guy in the video is ingrained/invested in iOS. He's used to it. If you've got $$$ invested in iOS apps like I bet he does, I'd probably stick with it too...just like I'm much more likely to stick with Android.
Nexus s is way better than iphone period.
My friends are really jealous about my Nexus s and call it "super iphone" lol.
no additional charge for tethering is a huge plus as well.
Get Nexus S. or wait for galaxy s 2
ya thanks guys ill do that. i have played with nexus s and love the speed and i already have the 3 cases for nexus s but not the phone yet as soon its released april 28th to rogers ill get it
uh this guy is complaining about updates with the nexus s and the iOS app store has SOOOO may crap apps it is crazy. Just go test them both out.

We know that you never said that you're special. Humans can imply things without saying them. We at XDA don't condone any prejudice towards any cultures, ethnicities or genders.
I don't see why being a girl would affect a person's ability to use a device. If anything, it should relate towards your personality (a person who isn't tech savvy vs. a person who is)
I just recently got the Nexus S here in Vancouver as well(when it released on April 7th. with the other carriers, and it has only been an awesome experience thus far. I watched the video you posted up until the guy said how he used androids in the past and stuff about how software is not updated. This guy is blowing crap out of his ass, cause he ain't got a clue. Nexus S is pure android and gets updates straight from google, and doesn't go through any manufacturers or carriers. If this guy doesn't even know that then you can pretty much take the rest of his video as a joke cause he clearly hasn't done his research.
As for the girl comment, I agree with Zephik, it really depends on whether or not you're tech savy. And even if you're not that tech savy I'd say Android is user friendly enough out of the box that you'll be fine.

ummmmmmm....don't mean to be rude but nexus s is not a sports where there will be difference between boy and girl. you just discriminated yourself for being a girl by asking if it's easy for girls. is there such thing that is easy for guys but not for girls?
p.s. i'm a dude btw =)
This guy is an idiot. Go to best buy: Try a Nexus S; Try an iPhone 4. If you don't like the Nexus S, buy an iPhone 4. If you don't like the iPhone 4, buy a Nexus S. These decisions are not that hard, regardless if you're a girl or not.
IMO, the Nexus S is a great device, although I am starting to grow weary of it, and have been more curiously looking into the G2x and the Galaxy S II. So, now I would say, if you have ruled out the iPhone 4 as a contender, then decide between the Nexus S, G2x, and the Galaxy S II, and at this point, if it were my decision, I would go with a G2x. If you can wait a few months, go with the Galaxy S II, or wait; I'm sure there will be something new unveiled soon enough. Google apps are amazing, market apps are starting to improve, and once again, this guy is an idiot.
I'll sell you my Nexus S if you want. For a super price. Hahah
sofia-captivate, iPhone is limited gadget. Apple placed users in a certain scope. Android not limited, everything is in your hands.
Android - this's a freedom everywhere & everytime.

The only accurate thing he said was that the Samsung Vibrant didn't get updates, which is a fault of Samsung and/or the carrier modified firmware. The Nexus S is a pure Google device and does not rely on manufacturers or carriers to play with the firmware - all updates to Android are released and made available to all Nexus users.
This guy is a bit weird too...he's almost whispering, moves his eyes/head and hands about as though he's had a few drinks, and goes on too much about how great iOS is over Android. A comparison is fair, his video is heavily biased toward Apple.
Also the Nexus S is a lot better than the Vibrant with better hardware and clean software, so comparing it to a Nexus S is like comparing a Chevy to a BMW. I'm very happy with the Nexus S.
when she mention being a girl, may be she's not a tech savy or she thinks she has small hand for the actual phone, either way the NS is a great phone, used the galaxy S i9000 before, even after rooting it, it slows down very often, all the manufacture crap inside is a bad thing, NS is pure google, NS is fast, theres no competition.
So I was going to do a 6 part mini series but due to time things are on hold. However, I decided to at least get things rolling. Depending on the feedback I get I will either complete or scrap the project. Anyhow, next time this argument comes around Android VS iOS just post this video. I am going to pass this on to all my friends who are still in the iOS is better frame of mind.
I have used Android for <1 year now, and everything is simple.
Have tried using iOS from time to time when messing about with friends phones, and things Android performed in a click of a button, required multiple clicks with the iOS.
I have to admit, I am not a big fan of Apple; I like how they look - but I hate how they function. They are far from simple.
Really hope you <strikeout>plan</strikeout> have time to expand and finish of the series.

Thanks I have been getting a few PM's and E-mails to finish the series and I am getting more pumped about it! Specially seeing how I left out so many important features that people use every day...
For example, sharing a simple website with your friends and family on Facebook (or any other Social Network that is not Twitter) is something that can't be done on iOS. If your browsing on Safari and come upon a great article that you want to share, you can only share on Twitter, E-mail and, Messaging. You would have to copy the URL, load up Faceboook then paste it and click on publish.
With Android, the sharing capabilities depend on what apps you have installed. I can share to my Dropbox, G+, Facebook, Docs, etc.. with just one click of a button.

Wow, I am happy that people actually enjoyed the video. This really makes me want to finish the series. I'll see if I can edit more next week and maybe in 2-3 weeks I will post part 2, stay tuned...
I appreciate the video, but a lot of it is what YOU enjoy and what YOU think is best. Sure, android suits you better, but what about the things that effect everyone? IPhone caters to the general public as a whole, you can make android cater to your individual preferences, it takes tons of apps, oftentimes a root, and constant maintenance. For those who want a phone without the hassle, Iphone does great. You're obviously technically inclined and don't mind dedicating some time to phone maintenance. You seem to even enjoy it. Android is great for you, but all OS's have their target audience.
Thumbs up. Ha have already shared this multiple times today to iPhone Stans who had no clue about these simple Android features. Even made my wife regret getting the 4s a couple months ago lol

You mean 99% of the examples in the video don't "affect everyone"?
Troll alert.
sent from my Terran Command Center.
Preferring Dolphin browser to Safari, do most really care? There's numerous other examples in the video. IPhone caters to the user, android gives you the option to cater to yourself which would be awesome but it requires a lot of searching and messing around. I'm not saying it's bad by any means. I've even got an xperia play on order, they just each have their target audience.
OK....call me a troll, but regarding the OP's video link.....holy ****....I have a question. Why do people nowadays talk in a way where everything they say sounds like a question? Ironic, I know, I just asked a question. Maybe I'm being nit-picky....but really...do people? Really? Talk? Like this?
I hope someone out there knows what I'm getting at, because I am constantly losing faith in humanity, or atleast my fellow Americans when people talk in questions.
I should just start a topic in the Rant section? Like, right?

It's a new phone. It will have issues. Get over it. I've never seen so many people complain about something. It is literally the best phone you can get right now. If it doesn't work for you get an iPhone. I love this phone even with the issues it has. They will be fixed. Sorry just my two cents.

It still amazes me that people complain about a new device having issues. This is HTC's new flagship device which has been created from the ground up. It's the first generation of said flagship line and is bound to have issues. Guess no one here had a 2g iPhone. Sure it was amazing, but I also had its short comings.
I returned my HOX cause they didn't have any available for exchange. Going to buy one tomorrow from Walmart. Can't wait to get it back.

I started a thread like this and it was closed in about 5 mins or less. It seems like complaining on here is the norm and not the exception. There are definitely some issues here and there...luckily for me, they don't affect me too much because of how I use the phone. Every phone I have had has had issues...best phone made period. Glad you're enjoying it.

I concur. It's ok to have threads like "Multitasking is a joke on this device", "Who else is returning their handsets?", "Disappointed w HTC QC" etc. but it's not ok to have a thread confronting the complainers. It's true that if you spend money on something and it has issues you're entitle to complain but srsly saying **** like "Im gonna return my HOX and buy an s3" is just plainly redundant. This phone is a complete new direction in manufacturing technology for HTC and the only thing I can chastise them for is the fact that they seem to rush it out, but I can totally understand that it has software/hardware issues. Instead of threatening to return and to buy from Samsung, why dont people just either do it and move on w their lives, or be patient and wait for a solution? Look at the screen flickering issue being incrementally solved as an example. Moreover, the S3 hasnt come out yet so stop it the comparing bs already. Werent the S and S2 plagued w issues upon launch as well?
Mini rant: Samsung hasnt changed their handset manufacturing or design since like forever (really I have a 2008 Samsung f480 or something and it looks reminiscent of the Galaxy line) so it's expected that their handset making process is more refined. It's not fair to compare an old-fashioned design w something as innovative looking as the HOX.
So, you are COMPLAINING about complainers? How is your topic any different from the rest? At least the topics where people complain about issues, helping raise an awareness of the problem, with a hope that the developers will fix them, while topics like this have absolutely no purpose whatsoever.

The great news is that the SGS3 will be in people's hands in less than two weeks. If the launch goes like the i9100, and GN, the comparisons to "perfect" that we've been seeing will suddenly look pretty feeble. As they say, "he who laughs last, laughs best."

There's little constructive conversation in the complaint threads. No one's trying to put their heads together to clarify and resolve a problem. They are ***** fests. The multitasking thread is a great example. 2/3 of the posts are just "OMFG, this is inexcusable" pile ons. And anyone that dares say it isn't bothering them is squashed like a roach.
I agree people need to stop *****ing. Nobody forced u to buy the device. If u don't like it return it. Otherwise stop *****ing.

Its a new phone thread. Give it 2 months and all the trolling complainers will be on to the next phone with an irrelevant quadrant score that is 10% better.

Yep...65 pages of the same people threatening to take their phones back will definitely help raise awareness.

I agree. People can complain for 65 pages about a new phone, but if someone creates a thread about being tired about all the *****ing, it gets closed immediately. The reply by the Mod was condescending and rude, yet he allows other threads to continue. No surprise though, it's the XDA way.

So, what are you proposing about that particular? We should all just shut up, go with the flow enjoy the broken phone? Seriously, one thing is complain about something minor, like theme colors, another is something that makes the phone virtually unusable. The more people complain about such things, the more the manufactures get aware of that, the more chances they gonna do something about. Maybe perhaps we should get another topic where people can vote if they like it or not the multitasking is working?
Topics like this on other hand, has no practical or any other usage. That's my point.

Actually, topics like this help to even out the discussion and see both sides of the story. A casual user would get the impression that the phone was garbage and no one likes it if all they read are complaints. It needs to be known that not everyone is complaining about the phone. The last thing anyone wants is a media blackout.

Seriously?
This is nothing like the first iphone. Android has been around a long time, Android 4.0 is like 7 months old. It's the same camera module from the year old SGS2.
What is so revolutionary? I like mine a lot, it's a slick phone, but it's not that groundbreaking.

Both Samsung and HTC have designed their products to meet the needs of millions of people. Along the way there were bound to be compromises. If any of those compromises don't meet your needs, don't buy the phone. XDA probably represents at most 5% of the phone buying public. For 25% of the 5% to think they can band together and try to make multi-billion dollar companies bend to their wishes is pretty naive. So by all means, have at it but don't ridicule the people that see the futility in some of the complaining.
Some of the features of the navigation system in my car drive me crazy and other members of its forum agree. It would be laughable for a small group of us to flame the manufacturer expecting them to revise the system because we don't like it. But yet, here on XDA, that's a pretty much daily occurrence. I don't like the way the automatic soap dispenser works on my dishwasher. Maybe I should gather up a group of fellow disgruntled owners and spam the manufacturer's Facebook page demanding they change it. If you want to send a message to a manufacturer stop buying their products. That'll get their attention a lot quicker than #neveragain campaigns. The GPS on the SGS (i9000) was in fact with no debate FUBAR. Owners launched the largest social campaign I've ever seen trying to get Samsung to fix it. Samsung never responded. They and Apple now share 90% of mobile device profits. Oh well, so much for that.
I don't know what you guys do for a living but decisions at large companies aren't emotional; they're statistically and financially driven. In cases like Asus and HTC unlocking their bootloaders it wasn't the rallying of the 25% of the 5% that made them rethink their policies. They were probably on the fence to begin with and the positive PR and low financial impact is what got them to change position. A device can easily meet the manufacturers financial objectives even if the entire XDA universe boycotted it. We're described as "enthusiasts" and make up a small but vocal part of the phone buying universe.
HTC's now on record saying multitasking is working as designed. Everyone here is still in their remorse period. You have two choices: 1) return the phone, 2) keep it and hope that since this is now on HTC's radar maybe there may be some future improvement. Option 3, which a lot of people seem to be taking, keeping the phone and *****ing among themselves isn't going to change how multitasking works.
Things like petitions and posting on social sites are fine. They are ways of communicating with the manufacturers and letting them know how some of their customers feel about their decisions. But as with everything, there's a time to call it a day and move on. This isn't a civil rights fight; we're talking about features on a phone. And of our "issues" probably 10% would even be noticed by the phone buying public in general.

The problem here is none of such compromises are publicly available for users to weight their decision with, none of the reviews have mention such crucial flaws, they have some cons about colors in photos or phone being too wide, but nothing that would greatly affect user's experience with phone's usage. Customers will have to experience it themselves, which means they will have to buy it first. (for example LG Nitro HD has defective hardware compass and the only way to know about it to experience it yourself, because nobody is talking about)
In this particular case with multitasking, the only people who's not getting affected by it are the same people who shouldn't buy such phone in the first place, since they just wasting money on something they don't use to it's full potentials.
Also, the same logic as "don't like it, don't buy it" can be applied to the OP complaining about the complainers - don't like it, don't read it, move along. But, it's just does not work in our imperfect world...

On this, you and I totally agree. Part of what makes XDA fun (for me) is the difference of opinion. It's interesting to see what's important to people and how everyone uses their device differently. The battles always start when smart, knowledgeble, strong-willed people all try to get each other to agree. And I've never seen that happen here or anywhere else.
Imagine I'm making a thread like "Who else is not returning their HOX and dont give a **** about the Samsung Plasticky s3". Pretty sure it will be closed so quick my chair still doesnt get warm yet.

No i think what is being said is that these threads dont help other users, they just are meant as a knee-jerk reaction to complaints threads. If you want to do what you are suggesting in your post, then you should start a thread along the lines of "I love this phone and here's why", not "tired of the complaints." That's just a complaint about complaining, plain and simple.
I also started a thread speaking of my problems with the one X and I got a bunch of people whining about my whining which I don't understand. And the point of the thread was not intended to go that route. Anyways I guess alot has changed here in XDA.

shocker
We'll...
Like the stages of grief, I was initially frustrated and upset. After thinking about it for about 3 minutes, just about every possession I own is for sale, for the right price. Go get it Andy!
Kinda sad, was tempted to buy a ph-2. But now I'm happy I'll get a chance to buy a ph-1 when they go on fire sale. It will fit right in with my nextbit Robin.
this was a response from Essential that Android Police received
An official Essential spokesperson responded to our request for comment. Here's what we got:
"We always have multiple products in development at the same time and we embrace canceling some in favor of the ones we think will be bigger hits. We are putting all of our efforts towards our future, game-changing products, which include mobile and home products."

Damm! I've been so looking forward to the new phone! I'm sure it would have been a much bigger success.
(another article about it, based on Bloomberg report https://www.theverge.com/2018/5/24/...ncels-phone-development-considers-sale-report )
So do I buy another backup one as there really doesn't seem to be an alternative.

Do you think we'll still get continued support for the PH-1, as getting the security updates quick, and getting updated to the official release of android p?

I was just wondering that myself.. let's hope the support continues for years to come. I have no plans to upgrade. Love my PH-1
I would not count on continued support for very long. You can’t hardly get decent long term support from phone companies that stay in business...
Sad day really. Especially the cancellation of the phone. I really believed the second one was going to get it right. I only had two problems with the phone: Low light performance of the cameras and poor signal strength (mostly indoors)
I don't think it would have been hard to improve in those areas for their next phone. He is giving up to easy.
P.S. won't be buying their other products if this is how it's going to go.
Maybe we need a petition started to give him more confidence.
It is sad, the Essential Phone had such promise. But sometimes in business "Promises" won't pay the staff or the bills. I was looking forward to PH-2, but now I am, I can't believe I am saying this, looking at the iPhone X.
I have use Android phones ,Nexis< from the beginning. Nexus left us in favor of the extremely expensive and hamstrung Pixel, I was really hoping Essential would fill that void, the one thing is the universe is constant "Apple" seems to always keep thing consistent.
Damn I need to call my therapist, its just a fuc____g phone...
Oh no. That's bad news. What a beautiful phone and not being continued.
First my wonderful Lumia, now the Essential.... Sometimes you wonder what it takes to break into this market.

I have the Essential and iPhone X. When it comes to size I constantly confuse the two of them. The Essential phone was the first Android device that felt like Apple quality to me. Can’t go wrong with either one.

Bummed on this one for sure. I've been impressed enough with this phone and especially the support to have considered replacing my wife's aging Nexus 5X with the second generation one (assuming the camera was better than the ph-1).
this feels exactly like what happened to me when Google sold Motorola soon after I bought my 2013 Moto X, which is still my all time fav phone. Google was supporting it (we got KitKat FAST) and then BAM the support was yanked out when the company got sold. I was starting to like this phone almost as much.

Where does that say the company is closing or that PH-2 is dead?
