[Q] SOLVED Problem flashing CyanogenMod 9.1.0 Stable - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

I rooted my MT4GS a few months ago but stuck with the stock ROM. I decided I wanted to try out the CyanogenMod 9.1 ICS ROM. I followed the following steps:
1) Installed ROM Manager.
2) ROM Manager indicated a newer version of ClockworkMod Recovery and I installed it (5.0.2.7).
3) Using ROM Manager, did a full backup of the current ROM. All went well.
4) Using ROM Manager, downloaded and installed CyanogenMod 9.1.0 stable-doubleshot. I specified to wipe the data and cache partitions. The installation seemed to go normally.
When the phone rebooted, it was stuck at the logo screen. Had to remove the battery to turn it off. Tried a couple times, still the same.
Since I had the backup, I decided I would use CWM to restore the old ROM.
When I boot into recovery mode, it shows CWM 5.0.2.7, but whatever option I try to choose from the recovery menu, The screen just goes blank with the CWM logo in the middle and nothing else happens. Hitting the power button returns me to the menu, but no option works, even power down or reboot. It just goes back to the CWM logo again and I have to remove the battery to shut it down.
So, I thought I would try using fastboot to flash the ROM again. When I boot the phone into the boot loader and select fastboot, then plug the phone in via USB, nothing happens. Windows does not see the phone and ADB or fastboot don't see it either. It's not a driver issue, as the computer is still setup from when the computer was rooted and I connect the phone all the time with no problems.
When the phone is off and plugged into USB or the charger, I still get the charging light, though it goes off after about 10 seconds, then comes back on and cycles like that.
Is there anything I can try at this point, or is my phone bricked? It seems like I followed all the steps correctly. Is there an update.zip I can put in the root folder and see if it picks it up?
Any help would be appreciated.

Ok, after rebooting Windows, I was able to get the USB connection to the phone to work in fastboot. It seems I missed the step described in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508556
which states with S-ON you must flash the boot.img separately. I did that via fastboot and the phone boots into cyanogenmod now.
However, I still seem to have the issue with clockwordmod recovery. As long as I do the recovery functions from rom manager, everything is fine, but when I manually boot into the recovery menu, I get the same behavior of any choice from the menu just blanks the screen except for the CWM logo and nothing happens. I tried reflashing the recovery image using fastboot, but still no go.

This is solved also. Seems on the MT4GS, the trackball is the selection button. The power button appears to only be a back button.

What a thread! Two nicely phrased problem definitions, two well explained solutions, and all from the same guy. Sorry we weren't able to help directly, but you obviously found the answers you needed elsewhere in the forum. And you updated the title as well to show it was solved. Thanks.

[Q] Problem booting into Recovery (ClockworkMod)

Please help this newbie out!... I recently rooted my Inspire 4G with attn1's hack kit. That went smooth without issue and I have tried a variety of custom ROMs thanks to this great community, but I have noticed a random issue with booting into ClockworkMod Recovery since... I installed Rom Manager and ClockworkMod Recovery 3.0.0.6 and the problem is that sometimes I can boot into recovery and sometimes not. It only seems to work is the first time I reboot immediately after flashing ClockworkMod, then subsequent reboots the phone just boots normally. (I hold volumn down and press power.) I have also tried installing Amon's Recovery (supersonic 2.3) manually using Fastboot - it seems to install without error but when I try holding the down volume button and hitting power - phone just boots normally. So it seems I am stuck with a ClockworkMod install that does not really work with reliability.... I am lost now trying to figure out why this is happening.
Can someone that has seen similar issues provide some tips/suggestions?
TIA
-Reebo
I had the same problem... quit using version 3.0.0.6 and go back to the earliest version, 2.5.1.3 through All ClockworkMod Recoveries. Worked for me.

You don't have 'fast boot' enabled in settings/application? If so it will not really shut off completely and when you power it up with VOL- it will not work.
i'm also having issues getting cwm to work outside the black screen. i have tried sense/ no sense roms and none have been able to bring up cwm outside the blank screen. i am also running 3.0.0.6 or whatever it is but that has not helped my issue

Sounds like fastboot is enabled. If you turn it off you will be able to boot into recovery.
i used the simple one click. yes i have root and s-off. but i'm stuck now. can not see cwm by manually booting into hboot. or through the app and clicking boot into recovery
[Q] Clockworkmod recovery not booting up
I have my phone rooted and ready to flash a custom ROM. I want to install android revolution 4g 4.0. I read that I need to ahve CWM version 3.0.0.6 to flash a 2.3 ROM. Anyways, when i select reboot into recovery in ROM Manager, my phone reboots and shows the HTC logo but then it fades to black screen and does nothing. If i press the power button, the phone reboots normally into the OS. Does anyone know how to fix this so i can install a custom ROM?
I have this exact same issue. Although i can load roms from choosing "Install from sd card" i cannot just boot into recovery and install it from there.
I just recently bought my inspire 4g a week ago.
Mine is 2 days old. Now i cant get it to boot up because it keeps trying to boot into CWM recovery but it cant. Its and endless loop.
Mine wont even load recovery. It reboots the phone but then just fades to a black screen. I cant get back into the OS

still stuck doing that too. can get the phone to reboot. but stuck at htc screen or black cwm screen. also checked sd card and is corrupted. i was thinking if i could just flash a new rom over to fix boot issue. but i need some screens to blindly walk through to flash. cwm is 3.0.0.5 if that matters. thanks. on a side note. i think i have a new cm7rc2 build on a formated sd card to try and minimize the guess work on what to click

pull your battery and just turn you phone on without going into Fastboot menu.
downloading now. will give update in a few min
also does it matter that my phone will not go past the white htc screen?

Are you saying that your phone shows the white HTC screen then fades to black?
if so, no, it doesn't matter...just press the power button to reboot your phone.

recovery boot issues - red triangle, then reboot

I'm having issues getting recovery to work on a Verizon version xoom. I first flashed CWM version 4.0.0.4. The first time I tried to boot into it, it was stuck on the android with the red triangle for a long time before finally getting into it (coincidentally when I was hitting the volume key, don't know if that's related). Anyway, since then I haven't been able to get into it. It will be suck on the red triangle screen for a minute or two before rebooting into the stock rom (I'm running stock ICS). Since then, I've tried flashing the new TWRP 2.2.2 or whatever version it is and it has no effect. It's still doing the same thing. Any clue what's wrong?
So what I'm reading is suggesting that the android guy I'm seeing is the stock recovery. I'm not sure how that's happening. I'm installing the recovery using fastboot on my PC and being in the bootloader on my xoom. The prompts on both appear to confirm success.
I haven't tried this yet as I'm at work, but I think I've got the issue sorted. The following is what appears to be happening from what I've read.
1. I've still got the custom recovery stalled. When the Android guy pops up, one needs to press volume up to enter the options. Otherwise, it reboots.
2. The recovery flashes are taking because I'm booting back into the rom after a flash. The system's built in recovery protection is re-flashing the original recovery at that point.
3. To make my CWM/TWRP/whatever flash stick, I'll need to power down and then boot directly into the recovery.
I'll post again tonight to say if this works. Hopefully this thread can help out others who have the same issue.
If you don't get that to work fastboot img from link..

[Q] Recovery Boot Loop Problem

Had a problem. Hope someone with experience can give me a few answers.
Nave new t-mobile Note 3, SM-N900T. Stock 4.4.2 KitKat Touchwiz rooted.
Rooted to enable SDFix to use SD card as I want to use it.
Everything great! No problems.
Thought it would be wise to have a Nanoid backup.
Opened Rom Manager and made One change in prefrences. I set it for external SD card storage. (mistake?)
Went to 'Backup current Rom' in Rom manager, started it and it started to reboot. Shut down and restarted in a 'Recovery' boot loop??
No matter what I did, Tried holding power, up volume and home button, nothing. Boot loop continued. Removed battery, waited, as soon as I re-installed battery it instantly went back into recovery boot loop.
I don't know what I did, I kept removing battery and trying again and again and all of a sudden, it booted up back to KitKat and now everything is working great again. No problem on any standard reboot.
What happened? I have used this same set up on my S3 and never had a problem.
I would like to backup the current setup for any future problems. But now, I'm afraid to even try.
I removed Rom Manager and re-installed. Made sure that the storage location was reset to internal and it should be OK??
What did I do when I got out of the Recovery boot loop??
So, afraid to try again. Don't want the boot loop again.

Hi. What recovery are you using?
If you haven't installed a custom recovery, then that explains your issue. Basically, the app scheduled a custom recovery script which kept failing in the stock recovery. You should normally be able to reboot into the system holding the power button, thus skipping going to recovery. This also resets the recovery script so everything is back to normal.
Nandroid is normally only possible using a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM.
I saw that you might be able to perform a Nandroid without restarting the phone (so without a custom recovery) using this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.h3r3t1c.onnandbup&hl=en
I have never tried it. Looks promising though.
But please note that you won't be able to restore the backup without a custom recovery.
EDIT: If you do have a custom recovery, why not boot in recovery mode and make the backup from there?
Cheers
Recovery Boot Loop Problem
I have CWM installed. Setup thru Rom Manager as I have done before on other phones.
Tried it again, same thing. Over and over. Constant reboot. Dosen't matter if I hold the power button or try different ways, same thing.
It says: Recovery booting
Recovery is not seandroid enforcing
Set warranty bit:recovery
If I remove battery and wait a couple of minutes, I can install battery and it dosen't start till I hold power button.
So I held volume down, home button and power button and booted into download mode. From there I cancelled and it rebooted normally.
Everything I've read on boot loops always say 'boot into recovery'. I only wish I could. That's the bootloop.
Any idea on what's wrong?
Thank you for your time and trouble.

Have you tried booting directly into recovery?
So just shut off your phone and then open it by holding volume up + home + power. It should boot into recovery. If it doesn't, I recommend installing cwm or TWRP using Odin instead of Rom manager.
Might be a problem with your current recovery.

Yes, I tried. Does the same thing.
I've never used Odin. All the info I've read mentioned downloading USB drivers and using different .tar files. Checking this and that.
Nothing I've ever done.
No experience with it.
Never had a reason before to use it.
Every instruction website I've read all seem to be different.
I'm gonna have to find out, huh? lol
I've got Odin on my computer, and have the CWM 6 zipped file.
Will do some research.
Thanks

No problem.
A few tips with odin:
-If you have Kies installed, you don't need to install other drivers.
-The file you flash with Odin should have tar or tar.md5 extension
-you have to activate USB debugging from developer options.
-boot your phone into download mode
-run Odin as administrator
-connect your phone. you should see the text Added in Odin. If don't see it, you need drivers.
-you should make sure only auto reboot and f. Reset time are checked
-you should put the file in Pda or Ap(if using latest version)
Click start and wait until it finishes. It will restart itself if you checked auto reboot.
That's about it. It's very safe and easy to use.
Watch some videos on YouTube. You will definitely find some.

I believe the problem must be somewhere else.
Something is stopping the recovery boot. More research ahead.

Strange. You could try TWRP instead of CWM. I use TWRP and really like it:
Here is the download link for your device: http://www.techerrata.com/file/twrp2/hltetmo/openrecovery-twrp-2.7.2.0-hltetmo-4.4.img.tar
This is the Odin flashable recovery.
Here is TWRP page: http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/
EDIT: One more thing. Are these the exact steps you are following when booting into recovery?
"To access recovery mode on your Note 3, turn off the device and press Volume Up+Home+Power buttons at the same time for about 4-6 seconds. When the screen lights up and you see the Samsung logo, release the Power button but keep Volume Up+Home keys pressed until you see the recovery menu screen"

Yes, if I use the buttons, the download mode comes up saying 'Boot failed'. That's holding the vol. button 'up'. If I hold vol. down, it loads download mode correctly.
If I try to enter recovery thru Rom Manager, Recovery tries to start and the boot loop starts. ??
I may try TWRP. I've heard a lot about it.

TWRP keeps crashing

I unlocked the bootloader on my phone, then flashed twrp. I rebooted to twrp and installed boot.img, TWRPWorkingInstaller.zip, TWRP-BLUE-FIX.zip, and Root.zip. Rebooting worked fine, but I saw that there was a newer twrp (twrp-3.2.1-3-wOOSkernel.img, so I tried installing it from twrp. The problem is that I installed it to the system image partition. After that, everything got wonky, unsurprisingly. Now, if I try to boot to twrp, it loads and I get to the first menu, but I cannot interact with it at all. Then the screen goes black and the led lights up blue. It doesn't respond to anything except shutting it down. I can hold the power button down to power off, but it reboots instead to a black screen with the blue LED. I can also boot into the bootloader. I can reflash twrp. When I restart to recovery then, I get the screen asking if I want to keep the system files locked or swipe to unlock it. The device seems to work fine for about 5 seconds from the time I get to the first twrp menu, then it doesn't respond. About 5-8 seconds later, the screen goes black and the blue led comes on. I also cannot power-off the device. If I try, it reboots.
Is there anything I can do to recover from this? I've got the stock recovery files (OnePlus6Oxygen_22_OTA_009_all_1805172226_f7d1518e0e704ca3.zip), but I can't copy them to the device because it won't boot to the OS.

Do you have a TWRP backup from when your phone worked on an external drive?
Can you access fastboot? Just use the fastboot ROM files to reflash the OS. Or if that doesn't work try the unbrick tool.
Yeah. I can use fastboot. However, I wasn't able to get to ROM to flash. I'm not sure if I'm using the correct parameters in the command. I googled, but all I came up with was flashing custom ROMs. Where can I find the unbrick tool?
NM. Found the unbrick tool. I may try it. I'll let you know how it works.

Phone shows a blank screen

Hello
Having some issues with my phone
I was using a custom rom beforehand and decided to flash the official stock rom because of a mobile app game that wouldn't boot on the phone. Doing that got rid of twrp and opened the stock recovery. Whenever I tried to reboot the phone it would keep taking me to the stock recovery. From there I decided to do a wipe but it continued to take me to the stock recovery. Not sure what to do I fast booted a .img file I used for the previous custom rom I was using and that booted the phone to a point where it had official stock and was rooted but the game still didn't work. So when I rebooted into recovery mode the twrp recovery appeared but when I checked my files everything was gone. Whenever I tried to reboot the phone it would just continue to take me into twrp recovery. Also I couldn't move files while it was in twrp. So I decided to format everything and that fixed my issue of booting. Now the phone booted as normal even tho I had to go through the intro again. I downloaded the game and huzzah it worked just fine. I booted into recovery mode to make sure it would boot fine from recovery to the phone and it did, but whenever I told twrp to reboot it would say there is no os installed but it would boot fine. Next I decided to get magisk back and running. So I got the manager and download the .zip and booted twrp and flashed it. When I rebooted my phone I just get a blank screen. Nothing happens when I press anything and pressing power + vol up restarts the phone but it goes back into a blank screen.

Hello
Having some issues with my phone
I was using a custom rom beforehand and decided to flash the official stock rom because of a mobile app game that wouldn't boot on the phone. Doing that got rid of twrp and opened the stock recovery. OK here is some quick help: https://piunikaweb.com/2019/05/29/how-to-unbrick-oneplus-7-pro-using-msm-download-tool/
I've tried this but it doesn't work. Whenever I boot the program nothing shows up. I checked my ports and I have Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM8) which doesn't match the guide and I have no idea how to change the port.

The COM number actually doesn't matter, it will vary from pc to pc so yes it will work, nothing will show up on the phone screen its self, once u see HS-USB QDLoader 9008 open the msm tool and u will see it connect and start.
What custom ROM?
What game?
Which TWRP?
Which boot.img?
What firmware?
What everything?
How on earth can you expect anyone to help you when you decide to cloak your whole setup in mystery?
I fixed the issue. I didn't know about the button combo to boot into fastboot so when I did boot into fastboot I fastbooted into twrp and fixed everything from there
