Phone shows a blank screen - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

Hello
Having some issues with my phone
I was using a custom rom beforehand and decided to flash the official stock rom because of a mobile app game that wouldn't boot on the phone. Doing that got rid of twrp and opened the stock recovery. Whenever I tried to reboot the phone it would keep taking me to the stock recovery. From there I decided to do a wipe but it continued to take me to the stock recovery. Not sure what to do I fast booted a .img file I used for the previous custom rom I was using and that booted the phone to a point where it had official stock and was rooted but the game still didn't work. So when I rebooted into recovery mode the twrp recovery appeared but when I checked my files everything was gone. Whenever I tried to reboot the phone it would just continue to take me into twrp recovery. Also I couldn't move files while it was in twrp. So I decided to format everything and that fixed my issue of booting. Now the phone booted as normal even tho I had to go through the intro again. I downloaded the game and huzzah it worked just fine. I booted into recovery mode to make sure it would boot fine from recovery to the phone and it did, but whenever I told twrp to reboot it would say there is no os installed but it would boot fine. Next I decided to get magisk back and running. So I got the manager and download the .zip and booted twrp and flashed it. When I rebooted my phone I just get a blank screen. Nothing happens when I press anything and pressing power + vol up restarts the phone but it goes back into a blank screen.
Help?

OK here is some quick help: https://piunikaweb.com/2019/05/29/how-to-unbrick-oneplus-7-pro-using-msm-download-tool/

I've tried this but it doesn't work. Whenever I boot the program nothing shows up. I checked my ports and I have Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM8) which doesn't match the guide and I have no idea how to change the port.

The COM number actually doesn't matter, it will vary from pc to pc so yes it will work, nothing will show up on the phone screen its self, once u see HS-USB QDLoader 9008 open the msm tool and u will see it connect and start.

What custom ROM?
What game?
Which TWRP?
Which boot.img?
What firmware?
What everything?
How on earth can you expect anyone to help you when you decide to cloak your whole setup in mystery?

I fixed the issue. I didn't know about the button combo to boot into fastboot so when I did boot into fastboot I fastbooted into twrp and fixed everything from there

[Q] SOLVED Problem flashing CyanogenMod 9.1.0 Stable

I rooted my MT4GS a few months ago but stuck with the stock ROM. I decided I wanted to try out the CyanogenMod 9.1 ICS ROM. I followed the following steps:
1) Installed ROM Manager.
2) ROM Manager indicated a newer version of ClockworkMod Recovery and I installed it (5.0.2.7).
3) Using ROM Manager, did a full backup of the current ROM. All went well.
4) Using ROM Manager, downloaded and installed CyanogenMod 9.1.0 stable-doubleshot. I specified to wipe the data and cache partitions. The installation seemed to go normally.
When the phone rebooted, it was stuck at the logo screen. Had to remove the battery to turn it off. Tried a couple times, still the same.
Since I had the backup, I decided I would use CWM to restore the old ROM.
When I boot into recovery mode, it shows CWM 5.0.2.7, but whatever option I try to choose from the recovery menu, The screen just goes blank with the CWM logo in the middle and nothing else happens. Hitting the power button returns me to the menu, but no option works, even power down or reboot. It just goes back to the CWM logo again and I have to remove the battery to shut it down.
So, I thought I would try using fastboot to flash the ROM again. When I boot the phone into the boot loader and select fastboot, then plug the phone in via USB, nothing happens. Windows does not see the phone and ADB or fastboot don't see it either. It's not a driver issue, as the computer is still setup from when the computer was rooted and I connect the phone all the time with no problems.
When the phone is off and plugged into USB or the charger, I still get the charging light, though it goes off after about 10 seconds, then comes back on and cycles like that.
Is there anything I can try at this point, or is my phone bricked? It seems like I followed all the steps correctly. Is there an update.zip I can put in the root folder and see if it picks it up?
Any help would be appreciated.

Ok, after rebooting Windows, I was able to get the USB connection to the phone to work in fastboot. It seems I missed the step described in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508556
which states with S-ON you must flash the boot.img separately. I did that via fastboot and the phone boots into cyanogenmod now.
However, I still seem to have the issue with clockwordmod recovery. As long as I do the recovery functions from rom manager, everything is fine, but when I manually boot into the recovery menu, I get the same behavior of any choice from the menu just blanks the screen except for the CWM logo and nothing happens. I tried reflashing the recovery image using fastboot, but still no go.

This is solved also. Seems on the MT4GS, the trackball is the selection button. The power button appears to only be a back button.
What a thread! Two nicely phrased problem definitions, two well explained solutions, and all from the same guy. Sorry we weren't able to help directly, but you obviously found the answers you needed elsewhere in the forum. And you updated the title as well to show it was solved. Thanks.

Can you enter fastboot mode ? If you can, you'll be able to flash system images + stock recovery then you can start over by re-flashing TWRP.

Factory reset, now stuck at TWRP, can't access fastboot and rescue

Ive been running KangVIP with no problems, however I got some adware which refused to go away, so I attempted to factory reset via the phones menu. It then ended up stuck at the TWRP screen. This has happened before so next I tried to restore a previous backup...not successful. I can't access fastboot and rescue to flash the official recovery.
Anyone got any help? Is there a guide to flashing the stock rom or have I borked my phone?
You can not shut down the device and connect it via USB to a PC and boot while holding volume down button into fastboot mode?
Well then you have ruined your phone.
I'm OP, was unable to get into my usual account last night. I'm not sure how, but holding volume up, down and power seemed to kick start it back to life and I'm back running KangVIP. I don't think I'll be resetting it again for a very long time.

I'm not sure whether it was luck or not, but all I did was to go into TWRP and then chose the Mount option, unmounted everything, then went to Reboot and chose Bootloader - that got me back to fastboot where I was able to flash the stock recovery, do a factory reset and get my phone back.

System is not booting after flashing TWRP

I have flashed TWRP 3.3.1 successfully . after that I rebooted into TWRP and it does not enter its recovery UI. After that, I tried to reboot the phone but it goes to recover screen again without entering recovery UI. I can't open my phone now. please help.
At the beginning, after flashing the twrp it was showing only TWRP screen not the options. then i rebooted the system and the phone rebooted without any issue (till now, phone was ok). then I again flashed the twrp but it remained the same. after that i tried different command from the Powershell. (fastboot boot twrp.img) and it showed downloading. after waiting for 5 min, I just closed the PowerShell and tried to reboot. from that time I cannot boot my phone anymore. then i again flashed the recovery but could not boot the phone. when i triy to boot the phone it only shows the recovery screen. I've attached the commands that I used to flash TWRP. Please help me to solve the problem.

Have you tried booting the recovery by pressing Power + Vol up?

Now since you are bootlooping we would need to install MIUI back again, to do this download the MiFlash Tool and the fastboot ROM for the latest MIUI, now copy it's file path and paste in MiFlash Tool, also make sure it detects your phone, now in the bottom right corner there would be an option like flash_everything_except_internal (similar to this) so that the internal storage isn't erased, now flash the ROM and let the phone boot up atleast once.
Once that's done use this TWRP (https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...unofficial-twrp-3-3-1-proper-t3933531/page4), it has a fix for the encryption bug and won't lead to a bootloop (the password/code/pattern asked in it is the same as the phone's), now you have TWRP installed and running
Thanks for your support. I followed the instruction and bootup the phone. But I'm afraid of flashing TWRP ?
It worked. I installed TWRP without any issue . Thanks again ?
TWRP 3.3.1 has bug, reinstall TWRP 3.2.3 and boot to recovery and then reboot to system.

I have now flashed TWRP. But my phone isn't booting into TWRP recovery and the power button and volume UP button is booting the phone into MIUI recovery. Also when booting into the system, it's asking for a password when I had no passwords on the device. Will MiFlash Tool help in this case??

The password is on the phone lock screen? In that case your device must have got encrypted, you might have to format all partitions and then flash with Mi Flash.Do have a try with MiFlash first, might help if it's not encrypted. Also make sure you used the right commands to flash the recovery, and use OrangeFox or Peter's.

TWRP Problem

Long story short, I tried to install TWRP with odin and my phone keeps restarting after I did the reboot from the recovery.
This is roughly what I did:
Installed the adb stuff and android studio(because I don't know if the adb stuff was installed correctly)
Do the volume button stuff for download mode
Connect cable
Open odin
Add the latest twrp file in the AP space and start
The phone booted up regularly ... I can't remember which thread it was but it said to remove battery then boot to recovery so I did it.
The instruction I followed said to advance wipe something but I accidentally swiped to factory reset then it booted back to recovery I think then I went back to wipe what I missed earlier then I tapped reboot and system and it keeps restarting all the time.
I can still enter the twrp recovery mode and the downloading mode.
I think it's a boot loop and I read threads where the simple instruction doesn't work and I haven't tried the command stuff.
Hope someone can help me.
