Phone is rooted, Wifi tether for root users used to work perfectly. All of the sudden for the past few days, the AP shows up, but when devices try to connect, they wont be able to. I reboot phone, toggle airplane mode on/off and sometimes it works, and devices can connected, but then randomly no internet, could be minutes or hours.
When I try foxfi, it seems to use the stock VZW wifi tether app, I have done the DB to 0 mod, but when I use this method to tether, as soon as any device connects, it immediately turns off my data, then turns it back on again, over and over until I disconnect the devices.
I would be satisfied with USB tether with pdanet but originally when I tried to connect it, I would hear the "device disconnect" noise on the computer over and over and over, which would kill the connection each time. I've tried different USB cables, it wasn't that. Removed all drivers and tried to re-install but now pdanet tells me theres a driver problem and wont even try to connect.
I've never had so many problems trying to tether from any other phone in my life. Could this be VZW trying to interfear? I'm still on the unlimited data plan, and they constantly call me trying to get me to upgrade phone (& switch to a new limited plan).
Thanks

I've been triying to figure this out for awhile but here's the basics of what's going on:
I have a Japanese HTC Touch Pro, (and yes EVERYTHING is in Japanese, but this doesn't really bother me.) We don't have MMS over here, so we use a constant 3G connection and mopera U to push email to the phone.
So, when i'm in my Comm Manager I have a Data connection on as well as the phone connection.
If I try to turn on my WiFi it will turn off after 3 seconds (just enables it and disables it)
If I try to use my bluetooth connection, same thing (enables BT, then turns it off again)
If I connect my phone to my PC via USB it will try to connect at first, but will suddenly disconnect after a few seconds.
Well, I figgured out that Active Sync won't allow the connection while the phone portion is turned on. Easy enough, I turn my phone into flight mode and it connects just fine and syncs. While this is a tad retarded, I will accept it.
However, In order to get bluetooth to work, i need to disable the 3G connection. Now.. here's what I don't like:
I *HAVE* to have my data connection for email/internet or anything. But, the phone will only seem to allow either the Data connection through the 3G OR bluetooth/wifi, not both.
Now, if I have BT enabled first, then try to establish the data connection I get an error telling me it cannot connect to the 3G network, same effect though, it will try.. just won't allow it.
What really makes me mad is i'm not wanting to have it networked to anything, I just wanna pair it with a headset so I can listen to the mp3 player while on the train and send out emails from my phone.
I tried calling HTC (good help that was) about it, and they suggested hard reseting the phone, soft reset, ect ect.. There's not really a problem, i'm sure there's just a setting somewhere to allow the multiple connections at one.
Does anyone know of any tricks or ANYTHING I can do so I can use my phone the way it was intended?
Did you ever find an answer to this? I am having a similar problem with my Fuze. When bluetooth is enabled, eventually the phone begins to refuse to open a data connection. :-(
No, i never found an answer. I'm not tech savvy enough to find it out.
But its REALLY annoying. I just want to use my USB headset, not connect bluetooth to any network or route messages that way.
Not sure if this is the fix to your problem, but this helped me when Wifi kept turning off, its a setting in WinMoDevCenter, it stops all data connections when connected to sync
in WinMoDevCentre go to Mobile Device settings -> Connection Settings -> Allow Data connections (last check box)
after that i was able to use wifi while plugged in just fine
Does anyone else have this problem?
My laptop will stay connected for a maybe a minute at a time, sometimes just a few seconds and I have to reconnect. Under Wireless Network Connection, the network is listed as "On Demand", if that helps.
I've tried every version of "Wireless Tether for Root Users" I can find and they all have the same problem. Is there anyway to stay connected?
Is it possible that your computer won't let you connect to an Ad-hoc connection? Maybe as soon as it realizes what it's connecting to it jumps off?
Havent had a problem, are you using the administration portion of wireless thether, you might have to just confirm the connection on the phone and apply the settings, you should have a green sheild when on your phone when a allowed device is connected
As far as I know ad hoc networks are allowed, I am using windows xp.
I have access control on and my laptop is allowed and connects fine, it just will not stay connected.
I am using a Toshiba nb205 netbook with windows xp.
On the Choose a Wireless Network window, next to G1Tether it says "On Demand" instead of Manual or Automatic. I've never seen that before.
I'm using the internet fine, I just have to reconnect every 30 seconds or so. Perhaps my google skills are too weak, but I cannot find anything, any help is very much appreciated.
Can you connect to a wifi network from the phone and stay connected?
Can you connect to a wifi network from the laptop and stay conencted?
"On Demand" is normal for Ad-Hoc Networks.
I had the same problem after upgrading from fresh 1.0 to 1.1 w/ gk-31. I uninstalled wireless tether and reinstalled it from my mybackup pro app backup (the one I made before flashing the new Rom and kernel. Works just fine now.
If I'm not mistaken I believe flipz included a newer version of wireless tether, maybe the old one works better.
I just realized I assumed you are using freshrom...
Might try reinstalling it anyways, let us know how it works out.
Reinstalling didn't work. I'll try out some roms tonight and see if they work any better, thanks anyways
Old post I know, but just wanted to see if anyone had any more ideas here. I don't think it's an android app issue at all, but rather windows. I'll be cruising along the highway with a fine connection, but as soon as windows picks up a random access point, it will jump off my ad-hoc connection and try to connect to the other one. not cool.
I know we're all excited with getting the whole tethering thing to work, and some are happy they can just use it for their lap tops. I want to push this to the limit. Partly because I'm grandfathered into the lifetime plan on Sirius and would like to listen to my Stiletto 2 at work, heh. So, I would like to be the guinea pig of anyone who can connect a device that doesn't need usb support to us the wifi. Obviously won't work using my Stiletto 2.
I own a MyTouch 3G Slide, and can acheive 3 out of 4 bars where I sit at work, which should be enough to send out some internet. I have used Wunderradio to stream my Sirius, but it cuts out frequently and there's "nothing they can do about it."
Are you trying to do wifi tether? Are you rooted?
If so you should check out an app called "wifi tether"
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I am not rooted, I cannot figure that out and am afraid of turning my new-ish phone into a paper weight. I did try wifi tether, but if I remember correctly, it prompted me to connect via usb for the wifi to be used. My stiletto 2 has to connect wirelessly to a wifi source for it to pick up signal, or be in clear view of the sky. Sadly, I do not sit near windows at work.
WiFi Tether uses your data plan for the internet connection, then you connect your computer to your phone through wifi. No USB involved.
I'm sorry, the one I tried was called "easy tether." Where can I find "wifi tether"? I couldn't find that program in the android market place.
I know AT&T censors the market, removing all tether apps they can find (since they charge $20 extra per month for it). Others may do the same.
I get around it by turning on Airplane Mode (which temporarily disables the SIM card), then turning WiFi back on and entering the market. Turning Airplane Mode off restores it to normal.
Hi,
Using Android 4.0.4 on an AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note (SGH-I717).
I'm trying to set up a simple network between a computer and the android. This is because the android will access a web page on the computer. Unfortunately I don't have the option of rooting the phone. I've been trying to get USB tethering enabled without a SIM card or wifi connection but it always bugs me with a message "Insert SIM card to access network services". I've tried a couple of apps that try to enable it for you (Tether It, Tasker), but they do not work.
I note that tethering will work if you start with WiFi connected to an access point, enable tethering, then disconnect WiFi, but that's not good enough here because I may not have anything to connect to. I need to just be able to hit a button somewhere and have it work with no data connection.
Is this generally possible (even by writing an app)?
As an alternative, I know I can do a hotspot without data connection via "Hotspot Control", but it does not stay connected reliably (it may drop out after about 2 hours and this must run unattended). I think the unreliability is either the fault of the phone or the app. I haven't found any other hotspot apps that work without data.
I'm also aware that there are USB-powered WiFi routers that can be used but I'd like to look into USB tethering and android hotspots first.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Just bought this Moto G Fast phone today, brand new, and I'm having issues connecting to Wi-Fi. Whenever I attempt to connect to a Xfinity Wi-Fi access point, it attempts to connect and tells me sign-in is required. I get to the screen where I enter in the username and password, but it then disconnects me from the access point, and takes me off the sign-in page before I can enter in the information. This happens in an endless loop. Never staying connected for more than a few seconds before it disconnects and reconnects.
I tried doing a factory reset multiple times.
I tried forgetting all wi-fi networks.
I have tried resetting the wi-fi, Bluetooth, and wireless network settings.
I tried doing a hardware Wi-Fi test, and get the green check mark.
I tried turning off my phone, waiting for thirty seconds, and turning back on my phone with the issue still existing.
I have tried resetting my phone multiple times.
I have removed my SIM card and reinserted it.
I can use my computer to connect to this Xfinity Wi-Fi access point, and then use my computer as Wi-Fi hotspot. My phone is then able to connect to my computer to access Wi-Fi to this Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspot indirectly. It however cannot connect directly to it by itself.
I'm able to connect to other Wi-Fi access points without issues, it's just Xfinity Wi-Fi access point near my home that I can no longer connect to. My computer however is able to connect to this same exact Xfinity Wi-Fi access point without issue. The connection from my computer to the Xfinity Wi-Fi access point is stable, I'm able to watch YouTube videos etc on it. However for whatever reason, sitting at the SAME exact desk my computer is at with my phone, my phone isn't able to maintain a constant connection for more than a few seconds.
I don't have physical access to the router.
Thanks for any help! I have the feeling I should just return the phone, but I don't want to pay the $49 restock fee, and this seems to be a software issue, and not a hardware issue, so I'm not sure anything is wrong with the device from a hardware perspective.
