[q] Rooted and Unlocked can't install Rom

I used the tutorial to root and unlock my S3 and I do have SU. I have been flashing ROMs on my Thuderbolt with never an issue. So I thought I knew what I was doing.
After creating a nadroid backup. I wiped my data and cache in CWM 6.0.1.0 I tried to install a Liquid S3 Rom but couldn't find. I then mounted my ext. SD and then I was able to locate it. I then installed the zip and it Soft Bricked my phone. So I followed the procedure to restore it and that worked.
I then tried to find my backup and nothing was there.
I then tried to create a new backup. It said it worked but then when I went right back to restore there was no backup. I then mounted my ext. sd and tired to create a back up. It ran the procedure and then said it couldn't find my card.
I am completely lost... I just want a new rom. Any help is greatly appreciated.
need help with loading Rom w/out bricking

Edit....How can I clarify my post to get some help?
So you oden back to stock then right?

Definitely going to need to Odin to be safe.
What type of SD card is it? 32 or 64 GB? If it is and the default format for the card is ExFat, like most that size are, CWM and TWRP cannot read them. Your card needs to be formatted FAT32 or use the internal SD to flash like I do. ExFat is not supported by any recoveries but the stock.
I just copy backups to SD through a file manager or pc. I never bothered to reformat my card.
If not that. Then make sure to check your md5sum as a mismatch means it won't flash well. Usin GooManager is great as it checks by default for you when the download completes. And if it fails it deletes the failure so you don't use it by mistake
Sent from a GlaDos Baked Potato
Yes, I used Odin to get back to stock using PureMotive's guide.
Its a 32GB card. I did reformat the card using through the settings menu. Not sure if that will put it in FAT32 format?
I was just able to backup on my ext SD and it shows a 1970-02-27 date. If I can find my backup does that mean CWM is reading the ext SD now?
I am scared to try and flash again because I haven't been able to find my restore. Last time I backed up to my internal SD and then after going through the PureMotive guide the backup was no longer there. What steps should I take?
Thanks again!
I just did a nandroid backup to the internal and this is what is says:
Card Space Free: 10847MB

That's normal. The no sd-ext happens on this device for some reason, but your backup was made correctly and us on your internal. There is a forum on how to get them on your external here somewhere. Rom manager will not allow it to happen. I've just been using internal and making a copy on my cpu just in case.

If you mount the ext-card I am backup there. Otherwise the default location is the internal card. Seems to be working on both.
First off - You have to format your card to FAT32, you cannot do this on the phone using the settings menu. Use these directions to format your card: How to format card to FAT32
If you would like to know why you are having issues with the SD card backups read this: CWM does not support the exFAT filesystem
Also, in CWM you can specify where to save your backup: Options are internal or ext. SD card.

this! everytime you odin back to stock via puremotive's guide or mine it will wipe the internal sd...so yea thats why your backups are lost. as mentioned above, format your sd to fat 32, then when you navigate to backup/restore in cwm, you will see the option "backup to external sd" . i will notate this in my guide when i get chance!

HELP!!!! No apps in titanium backup to restore.

Hi everyone, I recently installed cyanogen 10.1 for my note 10.1 N8010. It wouldn't install through CWM so I tried to install twrp through goo manager. It couldn't find a custom recover for my device so I flashed it through Odin. I was running android freedom at the time and had a nandroid of it. I wiped data in twrp, it said it would wipe data and cache only so I went ahead. After cyanogen flashed successfully I tried it out and downloaded titanium backup to restore my apps, they weren't there!!! Every restore option had a zero beside it, I checked the titanium backup folder to no avail. I decided to restore to android revolution as I had a backup. When I went to restore there were no files. No backup. I checked the clockworkmod folder and found the file but when I click properties it says - where size should be. Please help me as this is not my fault and I have a lot of important data in the backup. :crying:

Just check on your internal memory , there should be a folder named "0" , if you have this you will find all your titanium backup & CWM folder inside.

[Q] Multiple clockworkmod errors???

Hi, I'm running Cyanogenmod 10.1.3 with the latest cwm installed (6.0.4.3).
I've made multiple nandroid backups before and restored them perfectly fine, but it seems that recently,
1) When I try to backup using the rom manager app, my S3 boots into recovery, but then cwm says:
*date*
E: unknown volume for path [/external_sd/clockworkmod/backup/*the name of the backup*]
Can't mount backup path.
/tmp/recovery.log was copied to /sdcard/clockworkmod/recovery.log. Please open ROM Manager to report the issue.
This has been going on for a while, even after the app updated to its newest version (5.5.2.8).
2) When I try to restore a backup, it restores all the way until half of the data is restored. Then it shows:
Restoring data...
Error while restoring /data!
I've tried advanced restore, and only restoring data, but that doesn't work either.
Are these simply all of the app's errors? Or are they something more complicated? Thanks!

It has something to do with the folders it's trying to restore. You're on a 4.2 rom, so if you really want to get it to work then moving your backups, formatting your SD card, and moving them back on will probably get them to restore properly.
Also I wouldn't use rom manager to make backups, try doing it manually and see if you can get it to backup to the internal or external SD card.

[Q] Nandroid backup, app and sdext

Good morning, I'm here to do some questions about the nandroid backup.
Fist of all I'm using rashed's cm10.1.5 with halo and I have s2e installed and all running smoothly. I also have Clockwork 5.Now the questions.
1- Can I do a nandroid backup from my clockwork? Do I have to install something? Or something like that? What is the easy way to make a backup of my data?
2- In case I decide to change the rom, can I get my app back with my nandroid backup? How?
3- Will my ext partition in the sd work like before? I mean if the nandroid backup will restore my s2e, my app in the ext partition and the script or it will show an error because the appdata will take more space than the free space in the phone. For example I have my ext part with 400mb occupied. So I do a nandroid backup. When I'm going to restore it, it will restore to te ext, or to the phone?
3- I think this is not number free but number 6534532, and it's a noob (very nooooob) question. I always have trouble when a zip says "flash it from recovery" or "Install it from recovery" and all that options. How I know when I have to choose "Install ZIP from sd card" or "Install UPDATE from sd card"? what is the difference? -because I think that I have half bricked (bootloops, stuck in logo) a lot of times because from this. Thanks from now.
And please forgive my english, my noobing and the big number of questions.
1. Yes you can do a nandroid backup from CWM
2. As CWM backups all the data i.e settings,Google accounts but AFAIK you may lose the apps which were on SDcard
If all apps are on internal memory then you will not lose them (If you want, you can backup all your apps with MyBackup Root)
3. SDext partition has been a hit-and-miss for me on CWM
It did not restore my sdext backup sometimes and when it did, the ROM boot looped
TWRP is the best for wiping/backup/restoring SDext backup
6534532. Choose Install ZIP from SD card.
Install update from SD card means it flashes /sdcard/update.zip from SD card if it exists
Always use 'Install zip'

mmm The bakcup save the app in the phone. But how about the symlinks that are created in the phone that directs to the ext? It will backup the app anyway in the ext or only will backup the "Link"?
Another question. The Dalvik cache is important? Because I can move all the app to the phone, but if I move the app, the app data and the dalvik cache all that get bigger than my internal memory, but if I move only the app and the app data it fits perfectly. So can i backup the app and the data only and wipe the dalvikcache?
Dalvik cache is not important while backing up
AFAIK SDext backup saves the links only
But I have limited knowledge on SDext backups

I think I'll move all the app and the appdata to internal memory and then do the backup. So all the app and the data will be saved. And after flashing rom y will put it. But the dalvik cache i'll leave in the sdext. So it will be erased, but i was thinking it doens't matter, but I wanted an expert opinion, to aovid getting bootloops or have to reflash the rom 2 or 3 times or whatever problem can be found. Thanks a lot.

The backups, for any partition, besides cache and dalvik cache, are exact duplicate images of the partition(s). Comparable to that of an ISO image for the PC.

Because internal storage is encrypted. Sony don't see internal storage and can't save settings (default they located in /storage/TWRP

Hi I did nandroid backup from TWRP and saved it. I wiped data partition and restarted the phone.
It looks like factory reset. I went to TWRP to restore data partition but it still boots to fresh system and looks like is not restoring data. It says in TWRP that data partition restored succesfully. So what is going on ?
