So, like many of you guys, i bought an D2G from ebay this morning. My phone has not arrived yet but i assume its prob locked by verizon. i took the initiation of seeking how to unlock it, and i landed here. After searching tons of thread with the same topic? i will summarize the major two methods of unlocking the device, so later on, people like me with the same problem doesn't have to. (please correct me if i am wrong)
1. unlock code from VZ or vendor (unlock shack seems to provide refunds, so one might wanna give it a try.)
2. turbo sim (i used it for iphone4 and it works, but i cant say the same with d2g.)
couple members mentions some dude in china works out a method but you will have to send the phone in. it just happens to be that i speaks chinese, so i went over to the china great firewall in attempt to search for an answer. Apparently the method is no secret. The chinese said that this unlocking method is done through software and worked the same as the unlock code by verizon. The only difference is after the unlock process, the IMEI of your phone will turn into a 16 digits number starting with 0000. I got class in a lil bit, so this is my search so far. i will keep you all updated with my process. if i find a solution. i will make a tut for yall.
IMO changing the imei number isn't a solution at all. Thanks for info.
Changing imei isn't the solution but rather the outcome of the software unlock, but many said the unlock code doesn't work. I would assume many would prefer a better solution which promise certainty, especially when it's a paid service.
Why bother with esothic methods when you can unlock the phone with an online service and 10$ ?

Unfortunately - not always. Some are "tough nuts" and only Verizon can unlock them. And probably those Chinese guys..
IMEI must be 15 digit though, not 16. I only see problem if they use same IMEI for everyone. Two phones with one IMEI on one network is a call for trouble..
For the record - chaning IMEI number of a GSM phone is illegal in most countries.

Apparently, the method switch the original imei 35xxxxxxxxxxxxx of d2g to 0000xxxxxxxxxxx but digits after 0000 are not identical, from there they can calculate the pin code and is available for free. And as i read more, the chinese change esn for the cdma to work. Even thou changing imei or esn is illegal, i doubt they really regulate such act lol. And chill out on the negativity, a thriving forum are great only if their member share their knowledge and benefit us all. My last phone was Nokia n900, and the phone are still popular today due to the community's contributions:
No negativity here. I will be glad if all those having problems unlocking their phone finally find a way to sort their unlock issue.
Discussions about modifying IMEI/ESN is not allowed here on XDA (as well as most other similar forums) hence I expressed this concern.

I know.
But I still think that any alternative method should be taken in account only if you are one of those unlucky owners, not when the phone is still on its way...
Hi all
Strange title i know , but basically I found a Nokia N8 at work, I handed it to lost and found who put up posters etc but it was never claimed, so it has been returned to me a couple of months later. The owner must have reported it lost as it seems to be blocked. I have a relative who lives in france so i wondered if it was still possible to unlock the phone network so I can give it to them for use in france?
If so is it still just a matter of unlocking using a code (I have a reputable e bay seller I have used a couple of times)
Many thanks in advance
Chris

Hey there,
Changing the imei code is illegal but it would make a nice paper weight for your desk.
Greetz.
Yeah !! Lol
as i say don't want to change the imei want to unlock the network and use it abroad
Without violating laws, etc. no there is not a way to unlock it. Now, hypothetical and if I was overseas, I would reflash Symbian and then manual program in the carrier information. All 3G phones and below have a basic an extended programming that can be accessed with dialing a code and putting in an unlock code, but you need additional information. As an industry person and so forth I could say Google may hold information on extended programming.
Hi Guys! I'm kinda new to the forum. I made an account a while ago, but I never really used it... until now.
Let me just say that you guys helped me out more than once before, but now I need to ask questions to which I haven't been able to get a direct answer to. I dabbled in phone repair (mainly just rooted a few androids). I'm still a novice, but I'd like to start getting work experience. I'd like to start my own business unlocking, repairing, and eventually, creating custom ROMS for all phone models. But I'm still not 100% clear on a few things.
Is it at all possible to unlock android phones by flashing an international ROM? For example, let's say I have an Samsung Gakaxy S7, model SM- G930V (Locked to Verizon), could I, in any way, flash a 930F ROM (oran international variant of the 930F) onto that phone to unlock it? If not, what methods are available to me? Besides the obvious "contact your carrier and have them do it". There are a few sites such as
unlockauthority
unlockradar
That claim to be able to unlock your phone, but how do they do it? Are these sites even legit? I've heard of a few programs, such as Chimera Tools, that claim to be able to do the same thing, but the questions remain the same: are they legit, and if so, how to they do it? Can I learn to do it myself? If so, how? If not, why?
The same applies to iPhones, which I hear require iCloud to unlock. If I have an iPhone X, locked to AT&T or T-Mobile, can I just log in to iCloud and unlock it from there in just a few clicks for free?

This guy claims to be able to unlock "any" iPhone by just inputting a few codes. I question the legitimacy of this, of course, but I don't have access to a locked iPhone to verify.
Again, I'd like to start a business. Most people are looking to unlock their phones, so that would be my focus.
If anyone can help me, if even a little, I'd be very grateful.
And of course, once I learn more about mobile devices, I'll be able to help you

Generally speaking, you can't use firmware from one model on a different model, especially when it comes to any kind of Verizon device, that leads to a bricked device. There are cases where you can flash a firmware from a different model number, but those are rare cases and the devices are virtually identical hardware/software(bootloader).
If you're trying to unlock bootloader on any kind of Verizon Samsung device with 4.4 Kiit Kat or newer android, you can give up on that idea, you'll never make it happen, many, many, many people have tried, there is no way to do it. Verizon/Samsung has that locked down tight.
When it comes to unlocking phones, there is no general way of doing so. That is case by case and model number by model number. Not all phones can be unlocked and the ones that can be unlocked use different methods. You'll have to find the method for each specific model number.
We can't help in the iPhone department, this is an android development site, it doesn't deal with iPhone at all, not in any shape, form or fashion. You'll have to go somewhere else with that.

Thank you very much for your input! I'd like to keep this thread open, in case anyone else has something to share.
I really appreciate your help. From what I understand, unlocking Androids can only "safely" be done by contacting the appropriate carrier, or finding a specific method for each phone model.

I'd like to talk here if you don't mind. Private message me if you want to speak privately.
So i accidentally purchased a financed lg stylo 5 from sprint. I got it off craigslist and the only contact method was via craigslist automated email link. So there is no viable method of contact with the previous owner. I purchased this phone to use my qlink wireless account on. It is compatible but has "financial obligations" preventing me from activating it. Talked to sprint, they said theres nothing i can do if i cant get ahold of the previous owner. So im wondering, can i root/wipe/flash the OS or something along those lines and basically remove the brain of the phone and install a new one, and then use it? Would that help? Is there some variation of this idea that would help? Or is there any other way i could make this phone usable? (Unlocked) im not super experienced with this kind of tech, but im a quick learner and i can figure it out if someone knows of a method i can look into.... Help!!??

It depends. If the "financial obligation" is due to the device being blacklisted due to the previous owner not paying the bill, you will not be able to activate the device unless the previous owner pays the bill and the carrier removes the device from blacklist. If this is what you are dealing with, the thing that is preventing you from activating is not in the device, it is in the carrier network that the previous owner had service with, this is why there is nothing you can do from your end.

Discussion of changing IMEI in order to activate a device is not allowed here because it is illegal to do that in a lot of places. Please do not discuss criminal procedures here.

@Droidriven is correct above. Here you can read our policy regarding the edit or change of IMEI:

***before you judge or warn me it is legal to change IMEI numbers in my country*** Hey guys. I am stuck at changing IMEI number of my rooted note 10 plus. I have got ut rooted but I am unable to change IMEI number. I tried xposed framework but...

There's certainly nothing against the swap of a SIM from one phone to another but the IMEI is not connected to a SIM but to a device.

it's seems I can get everyone to respond to everything but a solution to fixing my phone.... but, sense we're nit picking.., all CDMA networks, and metro PCS Sims, are registered to the phones imei number, you can't take a metro PCS, or sprint Sim and use it on any other phone except the phones it's registered too... hence.. it's... LOCKED..., to the the phone its registered to imei, plain and simple, I posted a question on how to fix my phone if anyone would like to help me on that instead of comment on everything else I've gave advice on, thanks
hey guys, Ive been in the tech repair\refurbish industry for around 20 years. Rooting phones is no problem, Ive managed to break a couple apple id locked phones free also, but I cant find the legit software to carrier unlock phones, bypass frp locks and I need software for changing imei\esn numbers. I had names of software and even demos at one point considering the software was like 2 grand. Anyhow I primarily want to be able to carrier unlock phones. I know it can be done via usb using pc software, but I dont know what software to use. If there is way to get the software free, etc. I also want to be able to repair FRP locks. I know it can be done because after fighting an s10 for days when they were new, i paid 50 dollars and a guy bypassed it using team viewer through my pc, He did it so fast I couldnt really grab any of the software names. I realized the software is likely uncrackable and expensive but Im to a point that I need to be able to do these things myself. If any of you guys know what software i need and what would be best that would be great. I would be happy to know which software is required for is best, and which is more affordable but also decent, and if there is anything that can be obtained free to accomplish these things.
At the moment I have aboue 10 a32 5gs most of which just need carrier locks removed, and a couple need frp locks repaired. Please point me in the right direction. google turns up zilch. Thanks ahead guys!!
Do you know of any tool to unlock cell phones from T-mobile and verizon? I have two E5 Play bikes from those companies with blocked bands
MOD ACTION:
Thread closed.
If anything requires payment, pay for it. Carrier unlocks or any discussion about them while payments are due are not welcome on XDA. Changing IMEI is illegal in most countries. So any discussion about them is also not welcome.
