myth about chinese method of unlocking the D2G - Droid 2 Global General

So, like many of you guys, i bought an D2G from ebay this morning. My phone has not arrived yet but i assume its prob locked by verizon. i took the initiation of seeking how to unlock it, and i landed here. After searching tons of thread with the same topic? i will summarize the major two methods of unlocking the device, so later on, people like me with the same problem doesn't have to. (please correct me if i am wrong)
1. unlock code from VZ or vendor (unlock shack seems to provide refunds, so one might wanna give it a try.)
2. turbo sim (i used it for iphone4 and it works, but i cant say the same with d2g.)
couple members mentions some dude in china works out a method but you will have to send the phone in. it just happens to be that i speaks chinese, so i went over to the china great firewall in attempt to search for an answer. Apparently the method is no secret. The chinese said that this unlocking method is done through software and worked the same as the unlock code by verizon. The only difference is after the unlock process, the IMEI of your phone will turn into a 16 digits number starting with 0000. I got class in a lil bit, so this is my search so far. i will keep you all updated with my process. if i find a solution. i will make a tut for yall.

IMO changing the imei number isn't a solution at all. Thanks for info.

Changing imei isn't the solution but rather the outcome of the software unlock, but many said the unlock code doesn't work. I would assume many would prefer a better solution which promise certainty, especially when it's a paid service.

Why bother with esothic methods when you can unlock the phone with an online service and 10$ ?

Unfortunately - not always. Some are "tough nuts" and only Verizon can unlock them. And probably those Chinese guys..
IMEI must be 15 digit though, not 16. I only see problem if they use same IMEI for everyone. Two phones with one IMEI on one network is a call for trouble..
For the record - chaning IMEI number of a GSM phone is illegal in most countries.

Apparently, the method switch the original imei 35xxxxxxxxxxxxx of d2g to 0000xxxxxxxxxxx but digits after 0000 are not identical, from there they can calculate the pin code and is available for free. And as i read more, the chinese change esn for the cdma to work. Even thou changing imei or esn is illegal, i doubt they really regulate such act lol. And chill out on the negativity, a thriving forum are great only if their member share their knowledge and benefit us all. My last phone was Nokia n900, and the phone are still popular today due to the community's contributions:

No negativity here. I will be glad if all those having problems unlocking their phone finally find a way to sort their unlock issue.
Discussions about modifying IMEI/ESN is not allowed here on XDA (as well as most other similar forums) hence I expressed this concern.

I know.
But I still think that any alternative method should be taken in account only if you are one of those unlucky owners, not when the phone is still on its way...

Why can't 3 vendors unlock my Tilt?

I got a Tilt that just won't seem to be unlocked. I got the code from AT&T and wasted 4 unlock attempts. one vendor from ebay, the pricks known at New Mobile Freedom, can't find one and won't refund money, and the nice fellas at cellunlockimei.com also have trouble. i know the IMEI is correct, as its the same as *#06# and the battery, plus the 01 via the phone software.
i stick in a t-mobile sim, input 8-digit code, and hit OK
its a bloody Tilt on AT&T and others here are having an easy time...any clues before i use the 5th attempt and kill this phone completely?
I used Lokiwiz on my ATT Tilt with no problems. Free and easy.
**EDIT**
I think I was in error. I actually believe I used HardSpl, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679. Sorry about that.
My guess: it's too new. Probably manufactured in October, meaning the unlockers have not gotten the latest unlock code tables. You should wait a few weeks before buying another code.
To prove my point run this:
Code:
pmemdump 0x8c000000 0x100000 dump.bin
Open dump.bin in a hexeditor and look around offset 0x54000
You will find some manufacturing data there including mfg date.
you positive its unlocked? all the other folks here are buying codes or getting them from AT&T only. the free solution is elusive, though you say otherwise

When did u buy it?
i just got it about two weeks ago and have been hunting for an unlock code ever since. its just sitting there, begging to be used.
and i've already wasted 4 attempts, so i'm freaking out about it
At the risk of being accused of not searching first, I also have a Tilt and am about to unlock so I can apply other ROMs. Is it not enough to follow the directions via HTC Kaiser Hard-SPL v1 or do I also need to get the unlock code from AT&T?
If HTC Kaiser Hard-SPL v1 is all you need, why didn't you go that route?

what about the XDAU nlock program from the same xda developers? it says its included on the special_rom_1.2 now my question is if i want too unlock my tilt, which i have had for 1 week, and i'm required to have certain features on my phone for 6 months, will i void the warranty or the rebate for the Tilt if i unlock it during the 6 months period???
also if i unlock it will certain programs be locked for me to use since i'm currently with AT&T??? sorry if i'm asking a question that its probably been posted before, i'm new to the forums, if its forwarded to other threads its ok, any reply would be highly aprecciated, thanks in advance!
sim unlocking is different from CID-unlocking. they are two wholly independent things, so apply that hard spl thing and you can starting using different roms, but still only AT&T's sim cards.
so, i've done the hard spl and using a cooked rom, but its not a phone to me since i'm with t-mobile

that is a lotta questions that are answered within the forums, but i know its all kinda daunting.
you can get the unlock code as soon as the phone is yours. they just have to have your info into the system and they'll generate it. they don't have to email the manufacturer, which is a lie they'll tell sometimes. they'll say you have to add on international services, which is a lie, unless there's this one service that doesn't actually cost you, just leaves it on your account as an option in case you do travel. unlocking it doesn't change your service or phone usage or features in any single way. if you're on AT&T, all it does is increase resale value and allows you to use another carrier's sim cards

They, the service providers and also unlockers, get IMEI/unlockcode tables from the manufacturer (there is no such thing like an algo which takes the IMEI as input! the codes are random numbers generated by the mfg).
Sometimes, they have sold the phone before they receive the table. My kaiser's mfg date is oct/2007 (Q4/2007) and my provider has not yet received the Q4 table. So they're not always lying

Are you sure you gave ATT the right IMEI number? Because if one digit is off, you're messed up. Mine worked fine and I bought mine the day it came out from ATT. I would try ATT again and give them the IMEI number again and if they give you a different unlock code then perhaps the first IMEI number was wrong.

Droid 2 Global unlock code

I know a lot of people are talking about the turbo sim, but I am really not into the sim patch. I really like this phone, but also need it SIM unlocked.
Since I am on Page Plus, there's no way for me to get an unlock code from Verizon.
I question is, is there anyone ever unlocked Droid 2 Global by 3rd party vendor's unlock code? I was searching web and ebay, and did found some people.
Do all 3rd party vendor's unlock codes fail, or some of them work and some don't?
Please let me know your experiences. Thank you!
I actually got in touch with 2 different 3rd party code vendors and they both gave me the same 2 codes. I had also managed to get Verizon to give me the codes themselves without having the phone activated with them (it involves a little social hacking and a lot of luck). The thing is that Verizon gave me 3 unlock codes, 2 of which were the same that the vendors had given me.
Long story short, I couldn't unlock the phone even with the codes I got from Verizon (one of them was different from what the vendors had given me). I am not currently in the USA and apparently the phone needs to connect with the Verizon network to complete the unlock. I don't know if you really need to have the phone activated with Verizon at the time that you enter the unlock code or if you just need the phone to be able to reach the Verizon network.
I will be going to the USA next month and will be trying this out but it'll be around mid April before I'm able to post my results.
Yeah, im guessing the code MAY or may NOT work IF you're in the US ( as it can reach verizons network). Otherwise it just seems like theres no way it would work. Mine would come up with a "network unlock unsuccessful" as soon as i entered the code, like seriously, right away.
Also, lol @ "social hacking"
xD

I'm sorry if you get it this way. No, absolutely not, I am not teasing anyone, believe me, despite mine being unlocked already, I am still researching a solution of this problem. The turbosim idea was actually mine if you guys have been following it since the unlocking troubles started. The turbosim is the noob-style solution. I am pretty sure we can address the "locks" with some gsm shop equipment, just as for many other phones, motorola and other brands. The problem comes this is US only phone available in US only. Only if it was made available to "the old continent" for example, it would have been torn apart million times by now, every bit of it exposed, figuratively speaking.
Too bad time flies, soon D2g will be forgotten. I can tell you I am ditching mine as soon as Droid 3 with appropriate for my carrier GSM/UMTS/LTE bands is released. I can't pass by 4 inch screen and 5 row qwerty portrait slideout kb, as well as, I guess, some dual core madness with lots of ram under the hood too. Sorry I went way too off topic....

Yeah, as much as i hate Motorola's decision favouring a locked bootloader, I think im gonna go with the Droid 3 after this one. In my opinion, theres no other phone model/series that
1. Has a qwerty keyborad
2. Looks good
3. Has good build quality
4. Doesnt have a Win7phone-like price tag
Seriously, i wish the Xperia Pro looked DECENT at least.

sorry if this is a redundant question, but if VZW gives the unlock code... will it then work on AT&T?
as far as i know, it wont. It will be unlocked to use on any GSM carrier outside the US, as AT&T, T-Mobile, etc. network IDs are blocked and that block is unrelated to the SIM lock.

i sent cbw an email with the intent to obtain the sim unlock code for my milestone, based off a post on their facebook page. here is the email i sent to them:
while perusing your facebook page i find a gentleman named ___ that posted this:
"Does Cincinnati Bell have the unlock code for the Blaze? I may be traveling internationally soon and would like to use other carriers' SIM cards when overseas."
your response was:
"Hi ___- Email us your wireless # and IMEI to [email protected] Thanks!"
i called a few months ago for the EXACT same reason and was denied unlocking my milestone xt720. how can this be rectified? i also travel abroad and would like to have the phone THAT I PAID FOR unlocked as to be able to use other sim cards.

ive called motorola and they told me that the CARRIERS are the ones that have the unlock codes. who is lying (my guess - cbw) and how am i supposed to unlock this thing?
I think carriers should have it but I could be wrong. When I wanted to unlock my old phone from Wind (my carrier) I called them up and they gave the code to me.
I would try calling up CBW and speaking to a different person. The one who replied to you could just be confused.
The unlock is not part of the firmware, it is held much deeper in the phone. I would tend to believe the carrier and assume that the manufacturer would be able to unlock this phone. I really hope I am wrong though, for your sake.
Hi usually you have to be like 6 months+ and some time up 9 months into contract.
Call 611 and tell them you will be the country don't deal service tech they don't no much of anything.

One of the things that Dexter does to his ROMs that I haven't figured out yet is that he moves /system/etc/motorola/bp_nvm_default/sim_lock_init to /system/etc/motorola/sim_lock_init. I do know that /system/etc/motorola/bp_nvm_default is part of the baseband system and I also know that not all of Motorola's XT720 ROMs have sim_lock_init (in fact of the 9 XT720 sbf's I've collected only CBW's sbf has it, both Korean ROMs both have it). I don't have a non-CBW SIM, so I don't know if that does anything and Google hasn't really been much help to me on that. If you have a non-CBW SIM, maybe you can try using one of Dexter's ROMs and see if it is actually SIM locked or not. I honestly have no idea, though. I do know that I flashed the UK sbf once and it refused to let me use the phone unless there was a SIM present (but it accepted my CBW SIM--I have two XT720 now but only one sim). The CBW and Korean sbfs on the other hand let you use the phone without a SIM. Maybe that's what that file is about. I'm mostly clueless about the baseband and SIMs. But hey, it has "sim" and "lock" in the filename .
Do you still need an unlock code? I can get you one for this one for $14.99. They do come from Motorola and not Cincinnati Bell and the codes are not cheap like other phones.
Way to dig up a thread from 5 months ago. Not sure I want to send someone $14.99 for an unlock code in Thailand when I can go to corner store and they can unlock it face-to-face. Plus signature favors LG phones.
Seems like a Google search for "Help me unlock my phone" came up with this thread and probably many others to blanket post in them all. Dare I say.......Pimping your services?

No, not at all. Just trying to help a fellow XDA member. I offered the code at my cost with PayPal fee included. At this price I make nothing.
Also, getting your phone unlocked at a local shop is dangerous. Often these shops use special software and hardware clips that unlock your phone by patching the baseband code, which can result in a damaged or bricked device. Also when the phone is unlocked by a firmware patch such as this the phone can no longer get OTA updates as the baseband code will no longer pass a validation check (MD5) during the update process.
Unlocking remotely by IMEI is much safer. Remote unlocking servers, such as the ones we subscribe to, retrieve the unlock codes directly from the manufacturers databases that the carriers use. By entering the unlock code assigned to the phone at the factory at the time of manufacturer is the only safe way to unlock a phone. Once you enter the code the phone is unlocked permanently with no potential for damage. Plus the phone can still get OTA updates as the baseband code remains untouched.
Go ahead. Let some hack at a local shop damage your phone by patching the baseband code. Great idea, not!

[Q] Is it possible to unlock (not unblock!!!) a bloked imei phone???

Hi all
Strange title i know , but basically I found a Nokia N8 at work, I handed it to lost and found who put up posters etc but it was never claimed, so it has been returned to me a couple of months later. The owner must have reported it lost as it seems to be blocked. I have a relative who lives in france so i wondered if it was still possible to unlock the phone network so I can give it to them for use in france?
If so is it still just a matter of unlocking using a code (I have a reputable e bay seller I have used a couple of times)
Many thanks in advance

Hey there,
Changing the imei code is illegal but it would make a nice paper weight for your desk.
Greetz.
Yeah !! Lol
as i say don't want to change the imei want to unlock the network and use it abroad
Without violating laws, etc. no there is not a way to unlock it. Now, hypothetical and if I was overseas, I would reflash Symbian and then manual program in the carrier information. All 3G phones and below have a basic an extended programming that can be accessed with dialing a code and putting in an unlock code, but you need additional information. As an industry person and so forth I could say Google may hold information on extended programming.

Suggestions for Unlocking problem

Hello All,
Recently got an ATT branded 8X and so far, with a few minor issues, I love it. That said, I have a bit of a problem with unlocking. I purchased an unlock code from *htcsimunlock.com and then inserted my TMO UK sim. Phone booted up and then it asked me for the unlcock code. I enter it and it comes back as a sim error. I tried this with a TMO US sim too and had the same result. The company will not return my emails either so I am not getting much luck on that end either (buyer beware).
So, I thought I would come to the one place I always seem to get answers, whether I like them or not :crying:
Ideas please? Cheers.

Unfortunately, they sent you the wrong unlock code. The code is associated with the IMEI of the phone, not the SIM card.

Thanks drtolson. I realize that the the IMEI is the basis for the CU. My problem is after it asks me for the unlock, I get an invalid sim error message. I think you may have misundertood my question.
I have tried repeatedly to contact them but they just ignore me. Not cool I know but thats the fact of it.
The only thing thats related here is the fact that both sim's have been TMO. I can't imagine it being an issue and it has not been with all the phones I've unlcoked before... I'm stumped.
The reason that you are getting the invalid sim error message is because the unlock is not working, then it detects that the sim is not an AT&T sim and says that it is invalid. You need to get the right unlock code. And get a refund for the wrong one that they provided you.
Never use any imei unlocking services!
99% of operators lock the phones by themselves due to a huge leakage at the manufacturer's side.
So i, as an unlocking expert for last 20 years, advise you all guys NOT to use any IMEI based services.
Most of the unlocking websites are offering a wide range of unlocking services based on your IMEI number, but for last 3 years, the amount of successful unlocks via IMEI is greatly dropped down to 1%. So if you got your phone unlocked by IMEI today it does not mean that the next phone will also be unlocked.
Moreover - nobody will return you the money before they earn enough, most of them are buying the codes same way you do but in bulk and before they get enough to cover what they have spent to get it - no returns Sometimes no returns at all.
It's a huge cheating and a gamble. The feedbacks they leave on their websites are written by themselves. And there are lot of tricks you guys don't know.
So just DON"T USE IT!
Use online unlocking solutions where you can see what is happening and for sure there is a person behind the unlocking software, so at least you have a chance to return your money.
Spread it.

Certainly seems like I'm the victim of a scam here. Now I have to decide if the $15+/- I've paid is woth all the aggrevation and time of a charge back. I hate being rooted if you know what I mean...
I've tried to contact these guys three more times since this post all to no avail. Please guys, keep this in mind if you're looking for an unlock. Don't use w.htcsimunlock.com/.
Perhaps we should have a sticky of unlock guys we know to be legit. What about you maxrfon? You have any way to unlock an 8X?

Spread it.

Hello All,
Recently got an ATT branded 8X and so far, with a few minor issues, I love it.
Cheers.

The chance to get the right code is based on the professionality of the service you use... a good service offers you fully refund if you send in Video with the missing functionality of the code.
There are a lot of cheaters on the customer-side too...
Also got scamed by *htcsimunlock.com , but i have called my bank, their money gateway and posted a complain. I hope they dont get the money, because its only reserved. Shame..

You know, now I'm not so sure... I also had a Lumia 900 and the battery went. ATT replaced it with a refurb and since my original phone was already unlocked by them they gave me the unlock code for that one too. I could never get it to work so I got on the phone with customer service. They took me through the steps and they could not get it either. They sent me another one again, warranty replacement and gave me an unlock code for that too. That didnt work.
Today I read this post on the Lumia forum; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2056808 I tried it and it worked. It unlocked my Lumia. I think I'll try the 8X tonight and see. If it does get unlocked, I'll let you know.
I have nothing to lose by doing this now.

Should I say that I have bought another code at different site, and still no go! I think that some providers changed unlocking codes for our devices.
