[Help] power button & soft key lights - HTC Sensation

Hello, I have a weird problem with my sensation, everything were working fine, until I fall asleep with my sensation in hands, I woke up next morning and my phone was off (it didn't fall on floor nothing, it was still in my bed) I thought battery drained out, so I attached charger to it, but no signs of charging, so I put my spare battery in, and phone turned on by itself, and after few seconds of turning on, all four soft touch buttons just started to flash with less then a seconds interval, but phone booted up, everything was working except power button, it just didn't respond, completely dead. I tried to do factory reset, cleared all cache + data + dalvik etc. but still got that problem with flashing soft touch buttons and power button. Does anyone have an idea how this two things can be related ? I mean if the power buttons is old enough and I am expecting that one day it will just die, then why the hell I got those weird soft touch buttons flashing ? I am lost, I did search about this but all I found was something similar, I guess software triggered problems, but this one looks hardcore. I tried few tips from information I found, but didn't help, I also didn't see anyone else having this kind of problem :/ if anyone have an idea, I would be more then thankful.
P.S
Phone is s-off (with wire trick) phone is also rooted and running Revelation 1.0.1 ROM
Thanks in advance.

[Q] Screen not responding to touch

Hi everyone, just got the tablet today and set it up at work, played with it for bit and everthing was working fine.
Got home about 2 hours ago and now when I wake it from Sleep, the touch screen is not responding at all. Have tried everything, power is 98%, plugged into a PC, did the hard reboot, even wiping the data to start setup again. But all to no avail.
The screen isn't responding at all. Its very frustrating as I want to play with it some more!!!
Hope someone has experienced this and can help.
had the same issue once...i turned it off and left it for about 5min...turned it on and the screen works again...
this hasn't occured since then..probably just a system glitch..
Happened to me once, reset the device and it worked. Now it happened again and its been unusable for a day. If it doesn't work tonight, the $hit is going to hit the fan...
Are you stuck at the lock screen immediately after booting because the unlock function doesn't respond to touch? If so, I'm having the same situation. I really hope that waiting a few minutes does the trick...
Edit: even did a full wipe and the thing is still unresponsive. I assume this is a very bad sign. FML.
Have you guys contacted ASUS support? They will probably have you RMA it. How long did you guys have it before this happened? Now I'm worried that mine will do the same thing.
ASUS support did want to RMA my TF that was having this problem. However, after leaving it off for a couple hours, I went to turn it on to wipe out all my account settings and the touchscreen started working again.
I have no explanation for why it started working though. The last thing I did before it was magically fixed was go through the normal shutdown procedure by answering the 'do you want to shut down' using the dock's mouse instead of just holding down the power button. Maybe that made a difference?

This is what happened to me. Stuck at the lock screen, no touch at all. After 4 days of waiting for Asus to reply to my email and several disconnected phone calls, I have returned it to newegg. Since this item is still out of stock I expect to receive a full refund. Which is fine by me. June 8th, here I come.
Same thing happened to me, just returned it to fry's and was able to avoid the restocking fee. Going to get the galaxy tab come june 8th now instead.

I have weird little quirky things like this happen from time to time with my TF, such as having to hit the power button or lock button twice before it works. I think it might be more of a software issue than anything to be honest. Hoping that future updates will correct all of these issues.
I hope its a software issue....
Found a solution that worked for me. I booted into recovery mode by holding vol down and power. then I selected vol up to enter recovery. Then the exclamation point came up with the android robot. I left it like that for a few minutes then held down the power until it resarted.
It booted up like normal, no data lost. I then restarted for good measure. Came right back up like normal, touch screen and all.
Thanks jdmnash. I followed your instructions and it worked like a breeze. Should make this part of a sticky help thread.
Found a solution
Update: Tried every fix I could identify on the forums as I was also draining the battery as suggested on several forums. After 4 days waiting for the battery to drain, I was able to restart the TF and get active responses to the touchscreen. Unfortunately I had performed a reset and wipe earlier so I am having to reload everything. I am happy to have a functioning TF again, but have serious concerns about this failure and this awkward repair method. Additionally, I have still not had a response from ASUS support from 5 days ago.
Mine is constantly doing this. Randomly.
Its as if the daemon for screen touch detection crashes. The rest of the unit is fine but that stops and the only fix is a power button off, then on.
Something is not right here. Its vanilla out of the box, no extra software just the 13 FW update.
Will 3.1 fix this? Hopefully, as it stands, this will have to be returned. It is not fit for purpose, constantly failing.
same problem
Just picked up mine. Out of the box at a cafe it worked just fine. Brought it home and same problem as everyone else in this thread. Have tried all of the suggestions in this thread (except waiting for the battery to die). Even installed the 3.1 update via SD. Still no joy. Guess I'll try a few more things before returning it. My guess is a problem in the supply chain with the capacitors that detect screen touch. Doubt that it can be solved solely through a software update (or if it can it definitely didn't make it into 3.1)
my touch screen stopped working a week ago while i was at school. and i got really pissed and just kept on rebooting it and after like 5 or 6 reboots it started working. Havent had same problem since.
Hmm... thanks for suggestion. Tried booting it about 5 times but still borked. Draining the battery now as my last attempt before taking it back.
Update: I ran the battery down to zero. Charged it up for 30 mins and now it works again. Hope I don't have to repeat that very often.
BTW, the fastest way I could find to run down the battery was to power on while holding down the volume down button. Then just leave it sitting in that state until it reboots itself and then repeat.

Hi , After the battery is zero and then 30 minutes charging, in order to make it work , did you discharge it right after 30 minutes or still you keep it charging ?
I got same problem with my TF which is really a disappointment.. I tried to factory reset, reboot ... but still can't make it work. I have to try this trick by draining the battery to zero. Hopefully, I get advise from all of you for this problem ?
Thanks a lot
Can you guys try using ADW launcher and see if things improve?
I think it did for me.

[Q] Random reboots on pressing wake button?

Hi all,
Right, my phone isn't rooted as I just sent it off to HTC to have a look at - to no avail - they may just have reloaded the ROM which was wonderful
Anyway, for a while now I've been having issues whereby, normally whilst the phone is on low battery (~15%), pressing the power button to wake the phone will result in the screen staying black, before after 2 seconds, rebooting to the HTC logo.
I expected this to be a hardware error, so simply loaded my apps and settings back on as soon as it was returned. Is there any possibility that it may be something other than a hardware error that could cause this reboot, such as the SIM card or a particular app?
It's absolutely doing my nut in
Cheers,
James

Tried with two batteries, tries wiping the battery stats. Also occasionally happens with high charge so it doesn't seem a battery issue.
Cheers though.
I'm having a similar issue from time to time. I've been lucky enough to not have this issue for the last 4 weeks or so but 3-4 days ago it came back. But I think I solved it, at least temporarily.
Next time it crashes, remove the battery and while the back cover is off, press and hold the power button for ~10 seconds to drain what little power is left. Then put the battery and cover back on but don't turn the phone on. Instead, charge it until the led turns green. I'm not sure if this really is a fix but since I did this it hasn't crashed. I remember doing something similar back in January and it seemed to fix the issue then too. But it seems to come back over a period of weeks/months.
PS. Now that I think of it, maybe you don't have to wait for it to crash. Just turn it off and go through the steps and see if it helps.

Cheers mate, I'll give it a go now
Hi, i know this is an old thread, but I have the exact same problem on my Desire S. So i'm wondering if you ever solved this problem?
When you press the wake button, the phone doesnt restart, it just boots up. It is quite a known issue. There seem to be a design flaw that makes the battery just a little bit loose. So little that its not really noticealble, but enough to.cause the phone to turn off randomly. The solution is to place a.little piece of paper on the opposite site.from the battery connector pins. It makes the battery hold really tight, and ive never had this issue ever again.
Hope.i.could help.

I had similar prob
I used to have lots and lots of apps installed on my phone ALONG with all the tmobile apps since my phone is NOT rooted.
At some point on, my phone would constantly reboot from the white screen with HTC logo.
Then I thought maybe i'm over doing my phone, so I tried uninstalling some of the apps that I don't use as often.
It helped me...
hope it helps you too =]
Look for a video named "HTC sensation random shutdowns/reboots problem SOLVED" on Youtube. I can't post any link as I'm a new user, but this simple fix worked for me!
Apparently this issue has nothing to do with software updates or custom roms. It is just a design flaw that prevents the battery from connecting completely to the pins

[Q] HTC Sensation Unresponsive

Hi guys,
I have had my Sensation rooted with ARHD for about 4-5 weeks and everything has been smooth till now, when yesterday I was just reading an text message and my phone's screen went black but still lit up. I replaced the battery, SIM, SD and tried rebooting but it would still just appear as a black screen with the backlight on, but the keys are not lit up. Occasionally, the HTC splash screen would appear after taking the battery out and restarting, but then would again, go to the black screen. I can't go into Boot Loader either (i think i had my phone set to fast-boot cause I need to frequently switch my phone off).
Anyone have any ideas as to what I should do?
Cheers in advance
Try the taking out the SD card and then booting with the power/vol dn combo to see if you can get to the bootloader. If successful, may have to reload your firmware (P58IMG) and possibly ROM.
Just fyi fastboot has absolutely nothing to do with how fast your phone turns on lol.

Enable fastboot in settings, power off your phone and then power it back up again (without taking out the battery).
Your phone will boot in a jiffy. This more of a Sleep-Wake than a Power Off & power On, but yes, enabling the fastboot option will boot up the phone faster.

He means the feature that just suspends your phone instead of powering off. Ironically, both methods don't fully turn the phone off. Coincidentally, it's also called Fast Boot. You're thinking of that set of bootloader tools.
As per OPs issue, I have no idea. It sounds hardware related, but intermittent. Perhaps crack it open and see if there are any loose ribbon connectors or anything? I'm thinking the ribbon responsible for the screen may be loose. If it's loose but still kind of in place, the pins responsible for power might still be in contact but the ones responsible for sending data to the LCD might not. That could be why it turns on but it's only solid black. Pulling the battery and putting it back in might just coincidentally be "helping" because the angle of the phone is affecting a loose ribbon. Mind you, this is all speculation, and it might not be hardware at all, but that's my best guess.
Also, if you can get it resolved, never use HTC's Fast Boot. It's convenient, but tends to be a major pain when you have legitimate issues.
I have been having similar issues. My phone will be fine and all of a sudden it will turn off. Receiving calls, changing tracks from the lockscreen or playing games. Sometimes just unlocking my phone to use it will cause it to crash. Then getting it to boot again can be a royal pain in the behind. Anywhere from the first bootsplash to first unlock / loading the UI can make it crash and it's usually a pull of the battery SIM and SD to get it to boot.
Age of the ROM is something I have noticed to be a factor, the older the ROM, the more likely it is to do this but wiping cache and Dalvik from 4EXT has no real effect on stopping it from happening for any noticeable length of time.
Also to note, battery life seems to be very jumpy when this happens. I have had 4% battery life for hours, listened to music (at volume) and it's remained at 4%. Hardware LED isn't lit and it's just the OS with it's UI warning me so every so often, with the battery indicator staying at the 4%. It'll change again if the phone crashes again. Either to an accurate reading or to another fixed percentage, but it seems to like the 4%.
Not sure if it's the ROM, or firmware, but my previous ROM's have been using Bricked Kernel. I don't know it that's a deciding factor or not.
Sorry for hijacking the thread, but I too have stability issues and been wanting to say something on here for a while.
I'll post version details later on as I'm just about to get ready for a road trip.

fastboot has nothing to do with how fast your phone boots up. take your battery out and put it back in then start it and see if it starts up fast. you're thinking of quick start from basically hibernate

Help - One X will not stay on

Right guys,
I was just updating some apps on my One X, left it to its business and came back and it had turned off, so turned it on and it seems to load to the lock screen and then the screen goes blank and the phone turns off.
I have had it on charge (mains), tried the recovery, that doesn't help and I have tried a factory reset (when you hold the power and volume button) that doesn't work either.
Every time, just about gets to the lock screen freezes, goes blank and turns off.
It is totally stock software and hardware.
Locked to EE (Orange) network in the UK
Any help please?

Sorry, it is totally stock, not rooted or anything like that.
Just edited my first post too, sorry I was in a rush when I wrote it.
More info:
I have noticed that sometimes the little LED flashes red then green then pauses and repeats. I have seen this is an overheating problem?! The phone feels cool/warm to the touch, I know when playing the odd game the back of the phone gets really warm and it's no where near as warm as it can get.
More info:
Had it on charge overnight from the mains and it doesn't appear to have taken any charge, when it loads the lock screen it will show the battery level and when I press the power & volume buttons it tell me the battery level is too low.
Thanks again!
Mike
I've been having the same kinds of problems for months now.
I only use my OneXL for app testing fortunately, if I needed it as a normal phone I'd have given up and bought something new.
It often reboots after an hour or 2, even if it's doing "nothing", not even running any app after a restart.
Maybe it's overheating or something, but it seems more random to me. I was going to say that smacking it a bit doesn't cause any problem, but I just tried it now and it died. So maybe a PCB is cracked or there's some cold solder joints.
And yeah, the phone acts like the battery is dead. Again tonight I tried to boot it several times before it started up OK. It can end up dead but "powered" so I have to remove USB plug and hold power down 10-20 seconds to boot again.
I dunno, to me the phone is just broken, in effect.
I have had this same problem in the past with mine. Try disassembling it and pulling the battery.. then reassemble and see if that works, or could be a faulty power button
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Hmm.
I just updated with the latest RUU for the HBoot or whatever, and it looks like the reboots may have stopped !
Crosses fingers for luck...

[Q] Nexus 5 constantlly turning on and off

For quite a long time I did not make any change on Nexus ROM or applications, but yesterday my Nexus turns off while I was web browsing. I tried to turn it on but it refuses. It is only possible with USB cable plugged in, but then it constantly turns on for 1 second and then turns off, and this is going in endless loop as soon as USB cable is plugged in. But with unplugged cable NEXUS can not be powered on.
The video can be seen on this link
https://www.dropbox.com/s/cvyxii4ctm4aqgu/VID_20141110_190522.mp4?dl=0
Yesterday I somehow manage to get in recovery mode and I wipe cache and Nexus boot ROM, but after 30 minutes of usage it again turns of by itself. After that for more than 100 times I tried to get to recovery mode but I could not.
So, I think that my only chance to wipe cache and put new ROM is through ADB. But I do know how to do that. Can anyone help me?
P.S. I both my NEXUS in US, but I live in Croatia (EU) and Google tells that they can not make exchange for other NEXUS (although my phone is under warranty) because they can only do that for postal address inside US. Because I do not live there and any of my friends or relative will travel in US soon my only way to get my NEXUS working is through ADB.
sounds as your power button is "stuck'.

It usually helps the button back out again, I think you should RMA to LG, I'm sure they're worldwide. You could always open up the phone and try unsticking the power button if you can't be bothered sending it back.

Power button is not what cause the problem. I found many reports about the same problem, like on this page
http://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus5/comments/29tr5n/nexus_5_wont_turn_on_google_screen_keeps_flashing/
but nothing which I tried did not helped. But certainly power button is not causing the problem.
When the problem appears for the first time I manage to get into recovery and wipe cache, and after that phone booted ROM. After 30 minutes of working phone turns off and now I'm not able to get even into recovery.

So, since shaking, hard wacks, and anyting physical did not helped after your post I dismantle my phone and without back plate and upper plate on chips my phone works perfectly. So it seems that upper plate which covers chips is the cause of the problem.
For me, not even disassembling has helped, so I bought another motherboard and put it into my phone.

As far as I remember, the button is soldered to the board, and can not be bought separately. I know the second thing for sure, since I was also only searching for a separate button in the beginning...
