Hi everyone, just got the tablet today and set it up at work, played with it for bit and everthing was working fine.
Got home about 2 hours ago and now when I wake it from Sleep, the touch screen is not responding at all. Have tried everything, power is 98%, plugged into a PC, did the hard reboot, even wiping the data to start setup again. But all to no avail.
The screen isn't responding at all. Its very frustrating as I want to play with it some more!!!
Hope someone has experienced this and can help.
had the same issue once...i turned it off and left it for about 5min...turned it on and the screen works again...
this hasn't occured since then..probably just a system glitch..
Happened to me once, reset the device and it worked. Now it happened again and its been unusable for a day. If it doesn't work tonight, the $hit is going to hit the fan...
Are you stuck at the lock screen immediately after booting because the unlock function doesn't respond to touch? If so, I'm having the same situation. I really hope that waiting a few minutes does the trick...
Edit: even did a full wipe and the thing is still unresponsive. I assume this is a very bad sign. FML.
Have you guys contacted ASUS support? They will probably have you RMA it. How long did you guys have it before this happened? Now I'm worried that mine will do the same thing.
ASUS support did want to RMA my TF that was having this problem. However, after leaving it off for a couple hours, I went to turn it on to wipe out all my account settings and the touchscreen started working again.
I have no explanation for why it started working though. The last thing I did before it was magically fixed was go through the normal shutdown procedure by answering the 'do you want to shut down' using the dock's mouse instead of just holding down the power button. Maybe that made a difference?

This is what happened to me. Stuck at the lock screen, no touch at all. After 4 days of waiting for Asus to reply to my email and several disconnected phone calls, I have returned it to newegg. Since this item is still out of stock I expect to receive a full refund. Which is fine by me. June 8th, here I come.
Same thing happened to me, just returned it to fry's and was able to avoid the restocking fee. Going to get the galaxy tab come june 8th now instead.

I have weird little quirky things like this happen from time to time with my TF, such as having to hit the power button or lock button twice before it works. I think it might be more of a software issue than anything to be honest. Hoping that future updates will correct all of these issues.
I hope its a software issue....
Found a solution that worked for me. I booted into recovery mode by holding vol down and power. then I selected vol up to enter recovery. Then the exclamation point came up with the android robot. I left it like that for a few minutes then held down the power until it resarted.
It booted up like normal, no data lost. I then restarted for good measure. Came right back up like normal, touch screen and all.
Thanks jdmnash. I followed your instructions and it worked like a breeze. Should make this part of a sticky help thread.
Found a solution
Update: Tried every fix I could identify on the forums as I was also draining the battery as suggested on several forums. After 4 days waiting for the battery to drain, I was able to restart the TF and get active responses to the touchscreen. Unfortunately I had performed a reset and wipe earlier so I am having to reload everything. I am happy to have a functioning TF again, but have serious concerns about this failure and this awkward repair method. Additionally, I have still not had a response from ASUS support from 5 days ago.
Mine is constantly doing this. Randomly.
Its as if the daemon for screen touch detection crashes. The rest of the unit is fine but that stops and the only fix is a power button off, then on.
Something is not right here. Its vanilla out of the box, no extra software just the 13 FW update.
Will 3.1 fix this? Hopefully, as it stands, this will have to be returned. It is not fit for purpose, constantly failing.
same problem
Just picked up mine. Out of the box at a cafe it worked just fine. Brought it home and same problem as everyone else in this thread. Have tried all of the suggestions in this thread (except waiting for the battery to die). Even installed the 3.1 update via SD. Still no joy. Guess I'll try a few more things before returning it. My guess is a problem in the supply chain with the capacitors that detect screen touch. Doubt that it can be solved solely through a software update (or if it can it definitely didn't make it into 3.1)
my touch screen stopped working a week ago while i was at school. and i got really pissed and just kept on rebooting it and after like 5 or 6 reboots it started working. Havent had same problem since.
Hmm... thanks for suggestion. Tried booting it about 5 times but still borked. Draining the battery now as my last attempt before taking it back.
Update: I ran the battery down to zero. Charged it up for 30 mins and now it works again. Hope I don't have to repeat that very often.
BTW, the fastest way I could find to run down the battery was to power on while holding down the volume down button. Then just leave it sitting in that state until it reboots itself and then repeat.

Hi , After the battery is zero and then 30 minutes charging, in order to make it work , did you discharge it right after 30 minutes or still you keep it charging ?
I got same problem with my TF which is really a disappointment.. I tried to factory reset, reboot ... but still can't make it work. I have to try this trick by draining the battery to zero. Hopefully, I get advise from all of you for this problem ?
Thanks a lot
Can you guys try using ADW launcher and see if things improve?
I think it did for me.

Hey all,
My wife and I both have Nexus S phones bought together sometime in Jan. Both phones are running stock Android 2.3.2, no rooting or anything done yet.
Right now her phone is behaving weirdly, while mine is perfectly normal. I suspect that her battery is messed up somehow, but I can't figure out what to do.
For the last day or so, when her phone hits <15% battery, the low battery warning pop-up appears.. and just keeps reappearing. No matter how many times the pop-up is acknowledged, the pop-up just does *not* go away until we connect the phone to a charger. Sort of an aggressive warning
This means that the phone won't let itself be put to sleep, keep the screen turned off or anything -- unless we connect the phone to a charger. I feel as though the battery is charging slowly, but I can't be sure.
Another weird thing we're just noticing is that when we lock the phone by pressing the power button, the screen goes off and comes back on immediately. We have to press the power button a second time for it to actually switch off the display. This behavior goes away if the phone is connected to the charger. My phone does not show this behaviour - display goes off the moment I press the power button, regardless of charging status.
Any thoughts?
Alternatively, could anyone point me to how to recalibrate the battery on the Nexus S? We removed the battery and put it back in (which is basically a soft reset apparently) and now it seems as though the battery has lost calibration or something. Have not done a hard reset yet -- should I go ahead and try that too?
Thoughts/help much appreciated. This is very worrisome!

Sounds like it has a glitch in the software. Try wiping everything. Go into settings, unmount the USB memory, erase the USB memory, then do a factory reset. That will reload the firmware back into active memory for the phone and wipe anything out of the USB memory that might be causing this issue. I usually do a factory reset with a new phone after I play with it for a while anyway, and it doesn't hurt the phone at all. You simply lose your texts, contacts, photos, etc. Just copy or backup anything you need to keep and wipe it clean.
If that doesn't fix it, then you need to get it replaced.

Once you do a factory reset, turn off the phone and fully charge it using the supplied AC charger (don't use the computer port to charge), unplug it and wait a minute then re-connect the charger again for another hour, unplug it, turn on the phone and start using it.
Let us know if the reset fixes the issue.
I was hoping to get away without a factory reset, but I guess we have no choice. Will give it a shot later today, and let you know how it goes. Thanks.

Well a factory reset is a lot easier and faster than a return/exchange and accomplishes the same thing.
A new symptom has just surfaced -- right now, when my wife tries to lock the phone, it locks the screen but won't switch off the display. No matter how many times the phone is restarted, or the lock button is pressed, the display never actually goes off (timeout has been varied from 15 secs to 1 minute, to no avail). Phone was completely charged as of today morning, so its not popping any low battery warnings.. just not switching off display.
It definitely seems like a battery/software glitch of some kind. We've not done the factory reset yet (she's at work, and this just started happening). Just thought I'd keep the thread updated.
I went ahead and factory reset the phone, as well as manually installed the 2.3.3 update. Figured between the system reset and the update, something should get fixed
Restoring settings was relatively painless (love how everything just gets set up the way it was due to backing up everything with Google). We have the phone charging now (overnight), will update again tomorrow morning once its full charged and my wife is using it as normal.
Fixed?
Hey @satishev
I have the exact same problem, did yours get fixed?
thanks
Hey crobbie, sorry I forgot to update the thread.
After factory reset and update to 2.3.3, the phone has been working normally (so far). All issues related to battery/display are gone! Looks like it was some kind of software glitch that was causing it to read battery state incorrectly (Another symptom I had noticed was that on alarm/dock mode it would keep flashing a charging icon, despite no charger being connected). Initially after reset, the battery usage was acting wonky, but that worked itself out and everything is showing what I expect.
If interested, a blog post summarizing process/ZIPs for all updates to date can be found here.
Thanks, bfksc for all your help
Hi, a few days ago I bought the tablet, and the keyboard dock station.
Yesterday, I had it on stand by (or sleep mode, don´t know the difference) with the keyboard and then I wanted to use it but it seems dead. I charged it all the night, but it doesn´t starts.
It doesn´t show the asus´s logo.
I'm desperate.
Thanks in advance, Nico.
Same problem here
I ran into the same problem about a week and a half ago. Was using it a bunch with the keyboard and then I couldn't turn it on again. I was able to get it to come when it was off the keyboard by plugging in the power cable. However, when it was on I couldn't get the shut down dialog to come up, holding the power button in would only cause the screen to black out.
I e-mailed ASUS and they suggested I reset it back to factory. Still had the problem. It is currently in repair status at their RMA facility.
My first guess was that it was software related, since other android devices seem to have similar problems, for time to time. However, on a couple of occasions if I pressed the power button in a certain way the unit would turn on or I could get the shut down dialog to show up. I could never get the button to work consistantly, so I sent it in.
For folks who are interested: The tablet was non-rooted or ROM'd. Had 3.1 and the keyboard was running the software update that came with 3.1. The tablet was 40 series based on the serial number. It had been working fine for about a month.
Henry
I've seen this lots on Tegra devices.
Solution: NVFlash another custom recovery.
This even happened to me. During a bad flash that locked up, I pulled the battery and it wouldn't even power on. Nothing. No Bootlogo or anything.
NVFlash mode would still register the device when connected. So I NVFlashed between Stock and Clockwork Mod back and forth (this on my LG G2x)... trying to boot it up in between flashes...
Eventually it booted up and I was able to get into Recovery, where I did a factory reset and flashed a known good rom. All has been well since.
How can I reset it?
I have to try the most possible things to repair it, becouse it isn´t simple to me to send it to RMA, becouse I´m from Uruguay.
I can to power it on! The battery looks in 81%.
What you recommend to do now? Quickly please!,
I do not know how long you'll be able to take on.
How can i reboot it or dont know?
Android Version 3.01
*Edit: Just actualized to 3.1
Hold the power button for 15 seconds until the screen goes off then power it up normally and see if it'll come on. I was thinking maybe it's the Sleep of death bug...
So I've had my 16gb Tablet for a few days. Upon first power up, I ran through all the updates, including 5.0. When all the updates were done, I did a complete reset of the system to get Lollipop nice and fresh.
I've noticed that a few days ago, I left the tablet on my nightstand at about 50%, the next afternoon it was completely dead. I didn't think much of it, thinking maybe a program went crazy and sucked it dry. It happens.
Yesterday I left it on my bed at 64%, a few hours later I went to use it and it was powered off. At least I thought it was powered off. I'm noticing this unit might have bad buttons, as they are really squishy and don't have a lot of feedback for the up volume and power. So after pressing the crap out of the power button, it seemed to power back up. It greeted me to showing about 60% battery. Ok, that was weird, but not the end of the world. I plug it in to charge to 1005%.
Last night, I unplugged it at 100% and left it on my computer desk. Just now (next morning) I went to flip open the cover and it wouldn't turn on. I try hitting power and nothing. I hold the power down for about 20 seconds and it finally powers on. It boots up to 48% battery. Now keep in mind that I didn't do anything to it last night when I unplugged it. As a matter of fact, I didn't open apps, but I made sure I swiped all open cards away so nothing was running.
Sorry for the long post, but I want all the details here.
A couple questions:
Anyone else having random sleep issues where it won't wake up? I thought a lot was resolved going to lollipop?
Anyone have issues with soft sloppy buttons with no travel or click on the side? This is my second unit and I thought the first one had better buttons..
I'm having the same issue. Once it goes to sleep, sometimes it randomly just shuts down on its own. When I leave it on overnight, it's almost guaranteed to be off in the morning. Since I've come to work today, it's already automatically shut down twice. What the heck is going on?

It was the first thing I checked, and yes, it's disabled. I did a reset of my device yesterday and I've only had one random shutdown thus far. Not ideal, but still an improvement....
You need RMA, Please read this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=56907689
Same story for me, tablet was defective, battery drain even in airplane mode with no application installed. If your tablet do this, don't lose time and change it.
I've just purchased one and it's happening exactly the same, it happens constantly, also the battery drain is considerable.
I'm in Lollipop, and I've already done a coupe of factory reset.
Does anyone know if this can be repaired somehow? Or I'll have to return it...
Thanks!

Never requested a RMA to NVIDIA, are they fast? I've bought the tablet in Amazon, I have doubts yo who should I request it.
Thanks
So you should request amazon, unless Nvidia offer you a direct replacement in their forums.
Quick question. Does everyone here experiencing shutdowns have a case with an auto wake/sleep feature?
I too have this issue. Auto off is disabled.
I tried going back to gingerbread and the power issue is non-existent. Once I do all the updates to Lollipop the issue returns. Think it's an issue with the rom, since gingerbread works flawlessly.
I have both a skin and one with auto wake and my k1 has been shutting down on its own even with just tye skin on it.
This details is going to be long...sorry about that, but I'm extremely worried so please help me soon.
My nexus 5 is 1 year 2 months old, bought in india, currently out-of-warranty. I never ever rooted or made any software changes, it's on 6.0 Marshmallow on legit OTA software updates.
When I'd updated to Lollipop, few days it'd do random reboot, but it'd complete the reboot and the problem ended automatically in sometime.
Now, I'd installed 6.0 OTA, but now from past night the phone started doing these activities to be exact:
" While operating yesterday night, it randomly showed me 'Google' (which's shown when the phone starts) and the phone turned off. It was just a start. Today morning, it again doing same things when I turned phone on. If I press "Power+VolumeDown" it shows me the bootloader menu, but immediately switches to 'Google' screen, but here it starts showing in an infinite loop. So the "Power+VolumeDown" isn't working, only direct power button is turning phone on. Now when directly phone is turned on, if I press the power button once, it immediately goes to sleep and wakes up, I repeat this and the phone repeats this 2-3 times; if by-chance the phone sleeps by normal power button click and again if I try to turn it on, then on clicking power button it directly shows 'power off' (which is normally shown after waking up device and holding the power button, I try removing the option of 'power off' but it doesn't go and after 2-3 tries it goes, unlocks the screen, hangs for 2 seconds, shows google and repeats the same story.
Now I just did factory reset, now the phone had started but it again swiched off and now it isn't turning on again.
Please please help me what can be the problem? As in first thing I'm going service centre tomorrow morning, but as it's out of warranty how much they'll charge Idk, I mean can anyone along with solving above problem give a solution that what can be the cost, is this only a software issue (as I said I never made any roots anything, only thing phone ever might have got damaged would be by falling off from height, which last was dropped atleast 6 month ago, and I updated to 6.0 in mid-beginning of October, while this is the end, so what can be the problem exactly and only software issue it will be? What can be expected cost? In India, Mumbai and would be going to service centre tomorrow, I really don't trust Indian Service centres as they idk how much will they overcharge and how should I tackle them please tell?
Can anything mentioned till now be a hardware issue and be charged more for?
I'd also like to mention that I've absolutely zero idea about rooting and any other advance things so please don't provide any advanced resolutions which go completely above my head.
Please help me soon, I never did any modifications to the phone, and I wouldn't be getting a new one anytime soon, so I don't want my phone to be like this because i'm scare that at this moment it's either beyond repair or would be charged too much to repair..

I did 100% charge my phone, but nothing is helping. At this moment the phone isn't turning on and I'm waiting for battery to drain now as charge isn't helping. Even now if I put on charge, it won't charge and continuously show "google" "google" instead of charging.
Sir i think you have a problem with the power button. Its stuck. I have the same problem before. I had it fix and til now my nexus 5 is doing fine.
I have been having a similar problem for the past 3 months or so. I thought that it was my power button but I also saw in a few of these threads that it was a battery issue. My phone would act OK as long as I had 75% or more battery but once it got below that it would randomly boot loop. The last couple of weeks, when it boot looped, it would drop from +60% down to 4% after one reboot. That was when I decided to try replacing the battery even when the other symptoms seemed to point toward the power button.
I found a battery on line and changed it out last week and haven't had a problem since. I believe the phone was just getting erratic battery indication and shutting itself down thinking it was out of juice. Cracking open the phone and changing the battery was easier than expected provided you take your time and don't force anything.
Tip: There is a clip just above the "S" in Nexus that needs to be pressed back in when you put your cover back on or the wireless charging will not work.
Had this issue, replaced the battery. All is well now
So I bought this Huawei Mate 8 and to be honest I really loved it, it's the best phone atm imo. And it's pretty expensive in my currency. I've owned the phone for a couple of months now, 4 months I'd say. And just 12 hours ago, problems started.
It all started when I attempted to use the fingerprint scanner and my phone randomly restarted. Huh, I ignored it. But it happened again when I tried to open settings. It'd crash randomly on random actions. But it almost always crashed when I tried to open settings or use scanner. I removed my SD card and then it worked fine for a couple of hours, then it restarted again.
And sometimes it restarted many times over to the point where I'd think it's boot looping. But it'd eventually start. I reset the phone hoping it'd fix the problem if it's software related. But it always restarted right before I could enter my Google account to start the phone. But it reached it's eventual death. It crashed again but it didn't restart this time. I tried connecting it to its charger, but no response and no heat at all, not even in the charger's adapter. And my laptop didn't detect it at all.
What should I do now? This phone is new and expensive. I'm very careful with my devices and it's in a perfect condition. The only incident with it was when my selfie stick got too tight on the power button for like 10 seconds then I took it out. That was the same day the issue happened, so I'm not sure if it's just a coincidence. Anyways please tell me what I should do right now, and yes, the phone is still in warranty but I doubt they'd change it for me, their customer service is **** where I live.
Update
A couple of hours later, it was completely and utterly dead. I tried to press the power button and it turned on, it froze on the Huawei logo for like 3 minutes then it restarted again. It's acting really random right now, random restarts and then completely dead, then alive again...
Update #2:
I hard reset again and it's working pretty fine for now, I'll update again soon, but I strongly doubt that the problem is gone.
