BMM Moving ROMS between slots - Motorola Atrix 2

Hello,
Right now I have stock Retail Asian ICS in system 1 and PA on system 2. (I know the devs advise against installing on system 2, but I accidentally installed on system 2 and it has been running flawlessly ever since).
Don't know why I kept the stock, but after installing PA, I've never gone back to stock, not even a single time! Now I want to get rid of it and move PA to system 1 before I flash the kexec version.
Can I just take a backup of system 2 and restore on system 1 (after I wiping system 1)
Thanks,
Sayantan

[Q] Q flash with stock CWM

Hey all , hope u rocking with your tabs.
anyway, I decided to move on and divorce my stock rom forever
I just would like to ask about a few little things before i get starting flashing.
1 - can i flash Panaroid(Cauz it's awesome and very fast software cycle) with the stock CWM?
2 - if i decided to return back to stock ICS, i will have to wipe data then and would that make me vulnerable to the famous brick bug?
3 - how to backup my stock rom just in case?
4 - what's the biggest sacrifices i will make due to this migration?
well, 2 days now and no one answers these questions :S
Well I have Paranoid installed and its perfect. I backed up my stock ICS and I have a backup. That's all.

Hi I am newbie as well. Still see and learn from this great helpful website. I would like to share my experience to play around with custom ROM. and so far still safe. These steps are from what I have done although I have not used the wonderful [ROM][JB : 4.1.2][CM10 Hybrid][P6800\P6810\i815] Paranoid Android v2.22 [17/10][WIP], I am still waiting for the nearly perfect of this rom. .
I am still satisfied with [ROM] Singha ROM Version 1.1.1 (SEP 26 2012). http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886370

1 - can i flash Panaroid(Cauz it's awesome and very fast software cycle) with the stock CWM? It is better using CWM instead of Stock recovery. I am using old version Locerra's recovery at this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542897&page=13. Works perfect so far.
2 - if i decided to return back to stock ICS, i will have to wipe data then and would that make me vulnerable to the famous brick bug? if you have downloaded stock ICS thenI would suggest using CWM when you are installing from zip file. So far I did the bellow steps if using CWM :
1) place on internal SD
2) reboot to CWM
3) wipe data/factory reset in CWM
4) wipe cache
5) advanced > wipe dalvik, wipe battery stats
6) install .zip from INTERNAL SD
7) reboot
Another method is using mobile odin or PC Odin to flash with Stock ICS. You can see at this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1469635
3 - how to backup my stock rom just in case? You have to install CWM Recoverry. TWRP http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1809295 or Locerras' recoverry
4 - what's the biggest sacrifices i will make due to this migration? see The OP updated log. It is nearly perfect and there is still bug. But it depends on individual's opinion.

How Do I Backup the Operating System?

I rooted my S3. I have not unlocked it.
I would like to backup the android operating system, the apps, and the data before I allow the recent OTA update.
Based on my research, I believe I can use titanium to backup everything except the operating system. How do I backup the operating system?
I tried the Volume Up/Power/Home Button restart. It gives me the option to restore but not to backup.
What am I missing??

Thank you for the speedy reply. I did a quick search and found quite a bit written on installing a custom recovery including on the S3.
It appears that I can only back up to a custom ROM such as ClockworkMod Recovery or TWRP Recovery and not the base ROM as it is on the phone now. Is that correct?
I have ROM manager on the phone so I expect the ClockworkMod Recovery would be the way to go.
Nope, CWM and TWRP are custom recoveries. You'll have to install one of those in order to backup. Go onto the app store and search for EZ Recovery. Use that app to install the recoveries(it's the easiest way for someone new). Then you just boot into your recovery and do a backup of your current setup.
Download EZ Recovery and flash CWM then boot into recovery and choose the backup option.

Custom recovery will backup stock rom. You will not be able to install any OTA until untill you Odin back to stock.
Thank you for the replies.
I guess I should have included in the initial post that all I have done is root the phone......I think.
I never unlocked the phone with Ez-Unlocker
I never used Rom-Manager either.
I did install SD Speed Increase and increased the SD cache size from 128kb to 1024 kb.
Thats it.
Does this information change the previous recommendations?
No, just install EZ Recovery and follow the directions listed in one of the guides in the stickies.

Yes, if you have a custom recovery you cannot accept an OTA. The install will fail. You will have to Odin back to stock in order to take the OTA.

Thank you for the input.
There is a lot of information on this topic but its not easy to determine which of it applies to my situation. I feel pretty good about being able to Odin back to stock but I'm not sure I want to take the risk of doing that (probably not much risk) just to get the latest update.
I expect the best thing for me to do is decide to either 1) go ahead and install CM10 (I think that's the one I would want) or 2) go back to stock and stick with the Verizon software. I'd like to get Jelly Bean now, but I'm not sure its worth the risk. We'll see.
Thanks again!
If u use ez recovery and flash back the stock recovery u can then accept the ota just fine. As long as u haven't messed with any system files you are good. Then just re root it once ota is done.

Thanks for the info.
I have installed EZRecovery and it seems pretty straightforward. I'm still trying to decide if I want to go for a Jelly Bean ROM now or just wait.
I'll just keep reading until I'm comfortable that first, Jelly Bean will give me improvements worth the risk, and second, I won't brick the phone.
I have been fooling with computers since the 70s but Android is somewhat different and it will take a while to learn something about the architecture.
Thanks again.

If new I would flash an ICS rom first and get you a stable daily driver setup and backed up. Regardless of what you read all JB builds are buggy to an extent since they are all ports. The advantage of Android is as long as you have a stable Nandroid you can experiment with more advanced ports. Backup IEMI also and be careful jumping back and forth between AOSP and TW based roms. This is where the most problems come up. From what I've seen if flashed AOSP base it is best to Odin back to stock before going back to Touchwiz.

Or Twrp
I prefer twrp as it will allow you to name the backup from within recovery as well as some things cwm doesnt do.

[Q ] Switching from Embryo 6.9 to any other TW ROM

Hello guys,
So I wanted to switch from Embryo 6.9 to other TW ROMs to try them out but I am running into wierd issue.
When I try to do a clean install of Stock Kanged or the untouched TW Jellybean Odex ROM, they do get flashed without errors, but when the load up, apps for PLAYSTORE and PHONE are missing and I get costant FC for android.process and system ui. On top of that, I cant even access the settings.
This seems to be the case, regardless of which ever Rom that I flash. And if I flash EMBRYO ROM again, that works fine.
I am getting a feeling that EMBRYO Roms are changing the file system / structure (whatever it is that it does - im not that technical lol) and because of that only EMBRYO is able to be flashed and works but others get messed up.
Can anyone tell me if there its any way to correct things out or do I have to Odin my device to stock and start from scratch?
Thanks

Are you flashing gapps after flashing the ROM?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
I was thinking the same thing but its not mentioned anywhere in the ops for those roms, to flash gapps.. (may be i have missed it but i cant find that anywhere)
Plus the phone app shouldnt be a part of gapps neither should the settings be force closing because of that... may be if someone has switched from embryo to those other stock roms, they can shed a better light at this.

If you are clean wipe (/system /data /cache /preload) you should not be having any problems:
* Any serious ROM (full wipe) should do that for you, to account for user error.
* Or look into what recovery you are using.
Did you flash my untouched UCLL3 leak/UCLK4 leak? Try that, if that works you would need to bang the ROM developer..And yes, there are many who have switched to and from Embryo..

Thanks mohan.
I have tried a clean wipe but i will doubt everything i have tried and start from scratch again with what u recommended and see what happens.
Btw i do love embryo but the RR sometimes are resulting in wakelocks for some reason and if i dont pay attention to it when im at work then the battery drain kinda kills it lol.. but it is an awesome still.

Firstly its FLASH not FLUSH.!! On which system did you flash the ROM.. If you have flashed on 2nd system you should not wipe data... It will wipe out your other partitions... And did you flash via bmm or cwm??

I used Atrix2BootStrap.apk which seem like CWM based, there was no option 1st system or second system, it was like standard flashing(means normally we flash using Clock world recovery so no 1s or seccond system option appeared).

i think this rom can be install via BMM only... my friend has do like what you do before..... the only you can do is FXZ to stock, root, and then go to play store, install BMM 0.3..... dont install bootstrap.apk again after installing BMM and you will be fine...
I seem to have a similar issue.
First of all although this is my first post on XDA I'm not new to flashing and using Custom Roms infact I have been using CM 10.1 versions switching back and forth between 4.1.2 when I run into trouble.
I decided to give PA a shot and seem to have run into a wall. I flashed PA nokex on system 3 (which previously had CM10.1 - JBX 0.8.1(kernel)).
Before flashing PA on it I destroyed and recreated system, data and cache partitions so I didn't see the need to do wipes on them again. Nevertheless I did dod wipes. Flashed PA nokex, Gapps, wiped dlavik cache and rebooted. (Using BMM ofcourse)
I am stuck at a black screen with the red LED. I would really like to sample PA so any help would be really appreciated.

Nandroid

So I've just flashed LiquidSmooth JB 4.1.2 and I'm wanting to restore a select couple of apps with Nandroid Manager (this crashed my system on the first attempt to flash liquid) The apps I want to restore are associated with my previous ROM, CM10, and I'm wondering if restoring them will conflict with my current ROM.

Its normally not recommended to advance restore any data between different roms. It can cause issues and makes bug reports kinda useless, especially for app related issues.
