Hello guys,
So I wanted to switch from Embryo 6.9 to other TW ROMs to try them out but I am running into wierd issue.
When I try to do a clean install of Stock Kanged or the untouched TW Jellybean Odex ROM, they do get flashed without errors, but when the load up, apps for PLAYSTORE and PHONE are missing and I get costant FC for android.process and system ui. On top of that, I cant even access the settings.
This seems to be the case, regardless of which ever Rom that I flash. And if I flash EMBRYO ROM again, that works fine.
I am getting a feeling that EMBRYO Roms are changing the file system / structure (whatever it is that it does - im not that technical lol) and because of that only EMBRYO is able to be flashed and works but others get messed up.
Can anyone tell me if there its any way to correct things out or do I have to Odin my device to stock and start from scratch?
Thanks

Are you flashing gapps after flashing the ROM?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
I was thinking the same thing but its not mentioned anywhere in the ops for those roms, to flash gapps.. (may be i have missed it but i cant find that anywhere)
Plus the phone app shouldnt be a part of gapps neither should the settings be force closing because of that... may be if someone has switched from embryo to those other stock roms, they can shed a better light at this.

If you are clean wipe (/system /data /cache /preload) you should not be having any problems:
* Any serious ROM (full wipe) should do that for you, to account for user error.
* Or look into what recovery you are using.
Did you flash my untouched UCLL3 leak/UCLK4 leak? Try that, if that works you would need to bang the ROM developer..And yes, there are many who have switched to and from Embryo..

Thanks mohan.
I have tried a clean wipe but i will doubt everything i have tried and start from scratch again with what u recommended and see what happens.
Btw i do love embryo but the RR sometimes are resulting in wakelocks for some reason and if i dont pay attention to it when im at work then the battery drain kinda kills it lol.. but it is an awesome still.

Just installed your recovery! But I am having issues with root not working properly, cant move files into /system/app so I might try this instead.
Just flashed this and it installed with no issues at all. Can't wait to start working on this since my first rom became null and void once ICS leaked lol Great work MHX and everyone else involved
Pulling 6500-6600 consistently on Antutu with this and romracers unsecure kernel. The real world performance is better than CM7 AND MHX Superlite I ran previously. Thanks again so much man.

I hazard a guess that its about the same. You are clicking 4 times with your way and 2 times with mine. I wipe dalvik first and then run darkside. Its pretty damn fast way to wipe phone. I will stick with it. Worked great when installing this.
This thing is smooth as silk. Anyone had the guts to try the 14 toggle mod? I'm pretty sure it won't work since its based off different firmware.

I tried that on stock ics as its indicated that it can be applied. I borked the hell out of my phone lol. No nandroid so it was a fresh install to recover. I have since done nandroids and titbu's to avoid fresh installs.
Ok so i am back from work i have found a couple of issues i cannot restart the phone with quick reboot it just hangs and its a little laggy (i am guessing because of TW) and the camera seems to hang for a half a second not sure if this is normal as it did it on the nandroid back up as well
Any advantage to flashing this if I already have the mhx cwm backup installed?

Flashing from GB DID NOT work for me. It installed, but kept freezing at the boot screen then would shut off.
When do I flash a mod in the flashing process? After the ROM, obviously... Do I need to boot the phone up at all before flashing a mod?
Thanks for the patience when you answer. I looked but didn't see my question asked before... I know it's a noob question.

Hmm, I always prefer to flash them separately. When I used to flash mods, I would flash the rom, boot to make sure it runs ok (aka no crazy force closes), then flash the mod. I'm sure that you can flash both at once but I rarely did on my last phone.

This right here. It honestly is hit or miss though. Sometimes I would have zero issues flashing the rom , kernel, and mod all at once back to back. Other times u would be in hell doing that. I have honestly noticed best performance flashing the ROM clean (complete wipe) the. Rebooting... once the ROM settles I go back to recovery and wipe cache and dalvik flash the kernel. Reboot and once that settles, I do the same thing as the kernel. Recovery, wipe cache and dalvik, flash mod and fix permissions. Then boot and done. May seem redundant but it works best for me and I get zero issues

I flash rom, kernel, restore data if wanted, flash mods, flash themes all at once with TWRP with no problems. Never have fixed permissions. If have to fix permissions you flashed something that UID didn't match. Usually happens when flashing over data.
I've only had problems when I flash ROM then MOD before booting up once.
Thanks so much!

Okay so i ran synergy rom for a bit, loved it and worked good.
I tried flashing CS SG3 ROM
I couldn't get it to boot all the way up, i tried everything odin back to stock and retried, wiping system , everything.
still couldn't get it to boot all the way up so i gave up and ended up going to GALAXY MOD It worked perfectly and i loved it.
But today I tried flashing release 15, it also will not boot up. But when going and flashing release 14.1 again it works perfectly.. does anyone know what my issue is or how to fix it? I'm so confused... do they have something similar that could possibly be the issue?
Galaxy mof has problems booting on its newest release if you want to flash rls15 be sure to use cwm touch recovery and pick developer's choice not custom
If you do choose custom be sure to put force gpu rendering.

Oh okay. I will be trying this. thank you.
The only thing I can think of is not wipeing?
You can always try a dirtyy flash between ROMs. But if it doesn't fully boot.
Try wiping cache and dalvik cache.
You can also fix permission just to be safe.
Also. Maybe make sure you are on latest CWM? or TWRP.

I've tried this. lol
No matter what ROM I'm on, or the compatible custom kernel I try to flash with whatever ROM I'm using at that time, I am still yet to have a successful flash of a kernel without rebooting the device only to have to pull my battery because it boots the first screen and then goes black and flashes the red LED, forcing me to restore to a backup I made prior.
I am running the most updated version of Liquidsmooth, and the most updated versions of CWM/TWRP. Any suggestions or possible causes? I always wipe cache/dalvik and fix permissions like I previously read was required in other threads. Thanks in advance!

What kernels did you flashed? And with what ROM?
If you are on liquid 2.2 I believe it need a aosp 3.4 kernel. I know the latest BMS kernel works. But the latest KT747 will not work unless you are using a new nightly of liquid 2.3. Be sure to wipe cache and dalvik cache after flashing but before rebooting.

Basically tried flashing any compatible kernel with the ROM I was running at the time. For example yesterday I tried flashing the KT747 kernel for Jellybean with the current ROM I'm running, which is the most recent Liquidsmooth 4.2.2 ROM. Still no success
Here is the latest liquid...

Sorry for taking forever to reply, I originally posted this on my lunch break and am finally out of work to reply freely. Anyways, I tried what you said, and downloaded the BMS 3.4 kernel that states is compatible with the version of Liquidsmooth 4.2.2 I am running. Let's just say I yet again had to restore twice once because it did exactly what I stated above, where it gives me the splash screen saying it's running the custom kernel and doesn't boot any further after the Galaxy S3 screen. The first time, I flashed it and then wiped cache/dalvik and fixed permissions before booting up like everyone says you need to do after flashing a kernel, no success.
Then, I read in the kernel's thread that there is no need to do that for this most up to date release, it says you just have to flash the kernel and reboot like with any other zip file. Well that didn't work either, and was forced to restore a backup a second time! What could the problem be?! I'm using the most updated version of TWRP, I'm on the most updated nightly of the Liquidsmooth ROM, I'm using a highly confirmed working and compatible kernel, and following the directions to the T! When it comes to flashing a different ROM, modem, rpm, backup, etc. I have no problem whatsoever. But trying to flash a kernel has never been successful for me so far
Any help from anyone else? It's frustrating that I've never been able to flash any kernels to any ROM I've ever run
Sent from my Samsung SCH-I535 running Liquidsmooth 4.2.2
Im no expert on any of this but this is what i would do. Odin back to stock ROM and reroot and unlock bootloader. Id do this cause i would want a clean slate so i know there is no previous kernel/rom files that may be effecting something. Make a new nandroid backup then reflash the rom ya want to use. Once booted up and everything is running, restart the phone and boot into recovery. Wipe the dalvik and cache like normal then flash the kernel. Hopefully that would take care of the problem.
Only other thing i can think of is to maybe wipe data/factory reset like 2 or 3 times and wipe the caches again and reinstall your current rom. Then flash the kernel. Other than that im out of ideas. Hopefully someone can get your problem solved!

I currently have CM9 installed on my SGS4G and it's been over a year since I had it and wanted to try something new. After browsing in the dev forum, I decided to try out the SlimBean 4.2.2.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2233640
I was wondering will my phone be able to handle it? Its still on ICS 4.0.4. The first instruction says to factory reset/wipe my phone but I don't really want to erase everything. Can I just download the SlimBean rom and flash it while on my CM9? Will it change my ROM to SlimBean or will something really bad happen.

That would be what's called a dirty
flash only used if you are upgradeing your current ROM..
You will have all kinds of problems dirty flashing jellybean from ICS..
Back up your app data with Titanuim Backup and try restoring app data 1 by 1..But don't dirty flash JB from ICS follow the OP's flashing
Instructions.
