Ok so I just killed my screen completely (had a cracked screen, replaced it with new screen and loca, but eventually the screen died from i don't know what).
1 year into 2 year contract with my step dad's family plan. If I was currently employed, i would pay up for a new phone or what not.
I see now that the S3 is $49 with new 2 year contract, would be cheaper than buying a new screen/digitizer on ebay. Any way I can work that with verizon?
I could probably sell the phone as is for around $150-200 or so, which would help cover costs of a new one, but if I say the phone is lost /stolen, that would kill the esn.. I don't know what to do at this point.
What do you guys think?
It cost $176.81 for Samsung to fix it plus it'll regain it's warranty again. Too me it's not worth renewing a 2 yr if you plan on sticking with an s3.
I was thinking of trying to get early upgrade like this, claim im not happy with the phone (like say it has been slow for 4 months or so) and want an s4.
http://www.zdnet.com/how-to-score-an-early-phone-upgrade-from-verizon-7000007917/
But a friend is telling me that they will ask for the old phone back.

If you still have a year left in the contract I highly doubt that that would work.
If your local mall has a Cellairis, digitizer replacement is only $100... at least it is out here.

Wait so you don't want to pay a restocking fee yet you are hoping to get 530 for it.... you do know the restock fee is $35 right? You're losing money...........
Been around for 4 years and you make a thread like this? Wrong section for one and two no ebay links. Not buying the whole nephew story either. Not what I'd expect from an xda veteran.
Hit up Jcase if this is legit, hes looking to buy a phone, he stated that today in a different thread..
How old is it? 1st batch (1.73) or 2nd (1.85) batch?

He will be losing more than a little bit. After eBay, PayPal fees and shipping he will be losing about $120. Unless of course he is past his return widow then he has no choice but to sell it.
there is no restocking fee on an unopened item.......
What your nephew do?

Don't have access to the Market board yet, but Im looking to trade my One X and an iPhone 4 for an S3, or sell them to buy the S3.
sorry been at work. att rep told me 15% restocking fee as did the manager. weather it is opened or not. sorry for placing this in the wrong place. yes this is legit. 15% of 594 $89 I would rather help a fellow here who wants one. then take it back to the store. figure i would sell it here. and not loose ( give att) about 90$.
My nephew did not graduate like he told me he was going to. so no phone for him. he can keep his moto razor flip phone. lol as far as batch, i dont know how do i check?
sorry man this is all true. not gonna return to att store, nephew let me down. paid full price 549$ plus tax.
ok so after reading the receipt... i had 30 days... june 6th was that date... so now i either stick with it or sell it. i was looking forward to a GS3. but maybe this phone will do.
Coming from a evo I must say the build quality on the hox has improved greatly.
The camera is fantastic, even my 7 year old can take some impressive shots.
Rooting/unlocking boot loader is a walk in the park with the AIO tools, Id say if your looking to upgrade anyways keep the hox and rub that phone in your nephews face every chance you get.
i like that. just every day have it sit there and as he does my yard work just use it for like pandora for my out door system... lol put very good use to it. thats funny

Evening all, apologies for the probably noobish question but i've done a fair amount of searching and have to give in and just ask.
My younger brother got a xoom (32gb wi-fi and 3g) on contract in the uk with three, he then neglected to pay the bill entirely.
My question to you good folks is as follows...
Can three network bar it as they could with a mobile handset who's bill remained unpaid?
If i offer to pay off his contract as the helpful, older, wiser, better looking brother and then, confiscate his tablet and sell it to recoup my huge outlay - can anyone tell me if im going to get an angry winning ebay bidder messaging me to say that it doesn't work with their sim card as its been barred/blocked etc etc??
is there anyway i can check on the actual device?, at the minute it just comes up with "no sim" although the wi-fi works fine as you'd expect.
I just want rid of it, and to have my bank balance drained as little as possible before i send photos of my brother to every retailer asking them to politely remove him from their store.
Thanks for any help that you guys can provide.
kinny
Not to be a bummer but if you did pay off his contract you probably still have a huge dent in your wallet even after selling it. Probably best bet is to just keep with the contract and keep the XOOM since it is a decent device. I know that you want to sell it but I doubt you could sell it for all that much. And if you did pay off the contract your tablet should be unlocked so I doubt people would complain if they are blocked.
Just pop-in a different SIM to check if you still get a no-SIM error.

Nah i do agree in principle but I've already got 2 laptops assorted work and home phones and an ipad so the last thing i need is another bit of kit that'll turn into a paper weight, any money back from selling is better than none as i'm resigned to paying off his bill regardless under the understanding that the device becomes mine in exchange for his credit history not becoming ruined at the age of 18.
If i paid it off it'd be over a few months rather than in a lump sum just not the remaining 17 months thats left as i want it gone and off my mind asap!
they seem to be going for £200 plus on ebay which is £200 more than if i put it in the drawer and forgot about it.
Cheers for the reply though matey, much appreciated.

Hmm I see, if you want to get rid and don't mind losing a bit of money, I suppose paying it off as soon as possible and selling it will be wise. And no it won't be barred or blocked if everything works out fine. Don't know about changing ownership, lol first I heard of that but you probably have to discuss it with three. Just curious, why did your brother grab that device knowing he can't pay for it? It would've been better if he just brought it outright if you asked me.

Not entirely sure of that myself matey? might try and beat the answer out of him at a later date though
I decided to close my Verizon account, and would appreciate some advice on deciding what to do with my 16GB iPhone 4S. The iPhone is in perfect condition except for a single stuck pixel (white). It is still under Apple warranty, but it is so unnoticeable that I didn't bother to bring it it.
I've contemplated the following scenarios:
1) Trade it in at Gamestop. They offered me $250. I checked online (gazelle, usell, etc), and $250 is the best offer yet.
2) Bring it to Apple and get it replaced, then sell it here on the forum. It would be basically a new device since I would have just exchanged it at the Apple store. Don't know how much I can get on the forum though. I think I saw one going for about $320, but not sure if that's the rule or an exception.
3)??? You tell me!
As I said before, all reasonable suggestions are appreciated.
And before anybody asks, I don't have any unlimited data or other cool stuff worth getting my account for
Thanks!

Hey guys less than 30 days ago I bought a GS3 from best buy on Verizon. Last night I dropped it and of course it bounced and fell down a 3 story stairwell and shattered the screen and broke. Since its been <30 days I should be able to get protection from best buy or Verizon (Asurion) or others, but I wanted to ask you guys for advice on what I should do and if there is anything I'm not thinking about. I really really don't want a refurbished phone but if it's my only option then I have no choice. If anyone has a recommendation on what insurance plan to get please let me know. Thank you in advance!
I would check to see which plan would cover the device faster. I may be wrong and probably am, but assurion used to have a 2 week window in which you could not make a claim from the date of insurance purchase. Not sure how it is now. Their reason for the two weeks was to make sure the device was working when coverage was purchased to cut down on folks buying broken devices then turning around and filing a claim. Hope this helps.

I used to work at best buy when I was in college. In order to put the protection plan on the phone after the date of purchase you have to have the device with you so they can make sure it isn't already broken. Unfortunately if you didn't get the protection plan when you bought the phone the best buy route won't work.

Good luck OP...I hope you plan on keeping the insurance after you purchase it.
Not sure if this borders on fraud...kind of like having a house fire while on the phone with the insurance company trying to add coverage
so will close this.
So I have a note 5 on the jump program with tmobile, which is for 18 months.. I've been wanting to get the nexus 6p because I'm kind of burnt out of tw and all its restrictions, I actually left vzw and at&t for those reasons and joined tmo since they allow you to be free, but with Sammy that's not really freedom.. I put my S6 on swappa for sell but as we all know people on swappa are like craigslisters, basically want a new phone in awesome condition for free.. So I am considering putting my note 5 up for sale since I'll get more money.. I was told by a tmobile rep in a store near my home that I couldn't do that, that I'd have to keep the phone for the period of my lease.. Was wondering if the good folks here on xda could either confirm or know of a work around??.. Any help is appreciated thanks xda..

Is your phone paid off? If not, then you can't sell it.
Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk
As @darkjedi said, you can't sell it if it has not been paid off. Untill the phone is not paid off that note 5 that you have is not yours, it belongs to t-mobile untill you pay it off.
I mean, sure you can sell it, but you'd be a gigantic tool if you haven't paid it off. My friend bought an S6 off CL, the guy hadn't paid it off, then reported it stolen. My friend had to pay to get a new IMEI. Shady.
Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk
You could sell it to an acquaintance and be upfront about the fact that you haven't paid it off. Take the money from the sale and buy the 6P and continue to make the payments on your Note 5. In essence you'd be making payments on your new 6P. So yes, technically it can be done. There's nothing that will make it not work. You just need to be upfront about it.

If you're on jump on demand your swappa listing would not have even listed because the admins wouldnt have allowed it. Swappa is actually amazing. I don't sell a phone any other way, but I digress... If I were you (and I'll be doing the same here soon) I would buy the 6P...go the T-Mobile store and jump to the cheapest "jumpable" phone...you would have only like a 5 dollar charge every month for the cheap phone. While you're there tell them to activate the 6P...leave store with both phones...head home...Make a sandwich. Done

Didn't flame, nor did anyone else that I am aware of. XDA was pretty bad with flaming back a while for sure tho, even had little crews that would do really just that. Thankfully tho, for the most part that is over. Generally speaking, if you post in the wrong area a moderator will move it, no reason to start another thread with the same topic is all I was saying. You can click report thread, then thread maintenance and request it moved, if they feel it's in the wrong section they move it.

Guys here's the key difference between JUMP and JOD : with JUMP after you make your stipulated 24 payments the phone is YOURS. With JOD when you fulfill your 18 month lease contract the phone MUST be traded for another phone at the T-Mobile store OR THE BALANCE ON IT PAID OFF.
This is clearly stated by T-Mobile. JOD is for people who want the latest phones and DON'T CARE about ownership.
So OP in your particular case you have to pay off the phone FIRST and then sell it as you please.
People please know what you're getting into before you sign for any program!!!

It's actually practically the same thing though as TMOBILE is now allowing the balance at the 18 month period to be spread out into a final 6 payments. In addition, the total amount paid regardless of program is the same if you intend to keep the device. It's just presumed that if you're on JOD you won't actually go that long without jumping to something else.

Thank you. Why do people act as if you are doing jump on demand it is somehow costing you more or that you don't have the option of keeping the device? To me it's all about options. If at the end of the lease you want to keep the phone just pay the remaining price (either in full or another installment plan). And if you were to add up what you already paid with what is left over it is the same exact price as if you purchased it outright from the start - nothing more. If you want to own the phone prior to the lease's end (for example you want to sell the phone) you can pay off the phone in full anytime prior to the lease ends. So I don't understand why a person wouldn't take the option of JOD as it just gives you options. For example I used one of my jumps to upgrade from the 32gb to the 64gb. And since they had the sale of $100 off my bill is actually cheaper. I actually came out $31 ahead as I had my first 3 months paid via a samsung promotion and I only made two payments when I made my jump. As I keep saying (and have read others saying it as well) JOD is all about options.
I thought the whole point of the 'Jump' program, was you get a nice new phone like the Note 5, make your monthly payments, then say come Spring time, you want the shiny new HTC One M10, you bring in your Note 5 and exchange it for the One M10, costing you nothing, except maybe tax ?
And I think you can do that three times over 18 months ?
That's the program I am on, maybe that's called JoD ? But whatever, I think that's the best way to go IMO. My monthly bill will stay the same, and I can get up to three different phones over the course of a year and a half.
I signed up with T-Mobile to get the Note 5 back in August, and joined the JoD program, I won't keep this Note 5 past the Note 6 release. I will either A; get something this Spring, like the HTC One M10, or maybe LG G5, or the Nexus 6P if T-Mobile ever get's it. Or B; wait for the Note 6. But no way do I keep a phone for 18 months, there's always something else I go for.

Yep, that's the advantage of JOD. However, the price of what your monthly payment will change based on the price of the phone. If you jump to a phone that costs more than the one that you are turning in the monthly payment will increase. Conversely if you jump to a phone that costs less than the one that you are turning in your monthly payment will decrease. Also with JOD you pay nothing up front - the taxes are included in your monthly payment. Also keep in mind that each time you jump you are starting the lease over and it's as if you didn't make any payments on the phone that you are turning in.
