First off, apologies if i've posted this in the wrong place. It seems i don't have permission to post in the forum that has a page for this particular rom... Anywhoozle, I was wondering if anyone has had any problems with google now and searches performed using google now/google search/voice search. it appears that the only search history that google now accesses/uses for the now app is from my browsers (chrome/stock) and anything that i use now/google search/voice search to search for is not integrated into the google now app. for example i was trying to get the status for a flight and i searched it using now/voice search. it will bring up the relevant card and read the status. however, the app doesn't seem to remember what i searched for - it doesn't add the flight card to google now. But, If i search for the flight using google in chrome it will add the flight card to google now. I have the same issue when searching for addresses, google now only adds the card if i perform my google search using a browser. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling google search, even reflashed rom. anyone else have a similar issue?

thanks for the help kennyglass. any chance you can insert this into the slim bean thread in the the original android development forum? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1865328 hoping some of those folks can shed some light on this for me.
I am still encountering the problem on slim 4.2.2 build 8. Anyone else having issues with Google Now?
...still experiencing this issue on slim 4.2.2 build 8. Anyone else? Anyone? Bueller?
I'm on build 8. No issues with Google now. Try doing a full wipe. If that doesn't work. Check into the various settings within Google and see if you have something unchecked.

Thanks for your response!
I just recently did a clean install from a full wipe, no change. sidenote: I was not able to get the MegaWipe to flash... so i manually wiped everything even SD card.
Back to Google Now, i have web history enabled and google now can and does show my search results from chrome or any browser in Now. However if i just google search say a flight# by text or voice it does not get added to google now. it was working just fine on tw based roms. anywhere in particular besides Now settings and google settings i can poke around?
Got nothing honestly. I never really bothered to search there. I also don't have history enabled and I use dolphin browser. The cards still come up for me though. I honestly don't know why yours aren't working properly

Hello everyone:
I recently purchased the HTC One X from At&t and am having an issue with the gps. When I use google maps I have no problems. My issue is when for instance type the name of a store in google. The listing shows up and then there is a tab that says "diections." When i click on "Directions," i do not get the choice of doing so with maps or navigation. So after I do this, "my location" is never pulled and I cannot get the exact directions.
Is anyone else having this issue?
Thanks for all of the help.

Because google search wasn't designed for that. That will require html 5 and user permission. Just use google maps to search if you want directions.or you can try bing search on the browser. Last time I tried, it can take GPS locations and give out direction in the browser.

I have requested this thread be moved to Q&A.
On another not, Foxbob121, on my last phone, when i clicked on directions a screen popped up asking me if i wanted to get the directions from google maps or use the att option. This does not happen on this phone. Any ideas?
Different phones have different implementations. Since Apple owns most of these patents, HTC has to remove (or work around) a lot of features previously existed (HTC lost a law suit last year to Apple).
Hey guys first time posting here, but have been reading up lately after getting this issue on my S3 i747 with AOKP ROM.
Did the auto update from my phone and it seemed to apply but now I cannot launch the Play Store, Gmail app or sign into my YouTube. When trying to launch the Play Store it tries, then crashes, same with Gmail. When I try to sign into YouTube by clicking on the sign-in option, it just fails. The biggest concern I have is that I cannot see Google on my list of accounts to sync in settings.
After reading some of the dev forums here I get the idea that I may need to reflash my gapps? But not sure how to do it or if that will in fact fix my issue. I don't know if I have a back up on the phone as I had a friend do the rooting for me.
Really appreciate what you guys are doing here for newbies like me. Hope someone can help!

Download gapps and flash it in cwm. It's probably located in the OP of your ROM
Hello ;0)
I noticed a strange behaviour on my Nexus 5 (or maybe Google changed something?):
On my Nexus 4 I had an option in the settings of Google Now to activate some apps that I could search "within" the Google Search. All I had to do was to activate them and then, on the bottom of the search results, I would swipe the small bar to the right till I got to the phone entry and it would show me search results from the specified apps and I could open the app from there and it would take me to the result within the app.
For example: A search for "Sarah Miche" would pop up as "Sarah Michelle Gellar" with an imdb and a wikipedia icon, I clicked that and the wikipedia/imdb app would start and open the page about Sarah Michelle Gellar.
I quite liked that and used it a lot...
On my Nexus 5 however the option is gone. The settings are still there. In Google Now under settings-phone search but it just enables me to search apps/Chrome Beta/Contacts/Play Movies. And "apps" will just allow me to search for apps I installed on my phone not to search "inside" those apps. (See screenshots)
So I thought "Meeehhhhh, f****. They removed a feature I really liked. Guess I have to live with that..."
Now for the strange part:
I installed google search and GEL on my tablet (running Android 4.3) an the option is still there (but it´s called "tablet-search" and "tablet")
AND IT´S WORKING... (See screenshots) Same freaking Google-Search build, same freaking GEL-build....
Am I doing something wrong ?!?!? Does my phone hate me ? What´s up with that ?
Any help would be appreciated ;0)
Thanks ...
P.s.: Sorry my phone and my tablet are in german but you should get the picture ;0)
Same here, I don't even have "Chrome Beta" in the list.
But therein probably lies the answer: Google changed the way how Apps can "apply" to be shown in this list and not even the latest stock Chrome version has this feature yet (but the newer Beta does).
Also it seems to be a problem for the new GEL only, the list still works properly on my N10 with Google Search 3.1.8.x.
I've read mention of a new API for this functionality and that devs need to apply it to their apps. Just weird that Google itself hasn't applied it to all their apps.

Think you can find more info on that? As a developer I'd like to know, as my app uses the global search feature and it stopped working recently.

Any news on this?
On a side note, I created a question on Stackoverflow with the same issue.
On my nexus 7 2012 I installed the 3.1 from the Nexus 5 a few weeks ago. After a reset of Google Search data the tablet search broke like on your Nexus 5...but I only noticed it when I upgraded to kitkat. I obviously thought it was kitkat the problem until today.
The problem is how Google Search 3.x handles the list. There must be a bug of some sort.
Here's why:
On my htc one s with cm10.2 (4.3) I reset the data of Search 3.1.8 to try something only to discover that the Phone Search list was almost empty like on my tablet!
I uninstalled it and the 2.6.7 version was restored from /system/app. The phone search list was full now, even after I updated to 3.1.8.
So, basically, if you open Google Search 2.x and then you update to 3.x the list will be there like it always did.
Who updated to kitkat without resetting the data won't have any problems (or whoever update to 3.1.8 on any phone\tablet without data reset)

I found this commit in AOSP, which might be related:
https : // android.googlesource.com/platform/packages/apps/QuickSearchBox/+/ecf356c15143ab0583c64682de16d94a57f7dd1c
The commit message tells us that this feature was removed due to performance reasons (which might or might not be true, given that it references an internal ticket id and I didn't find a public issue here about this).
Since this part of the quicksearchbox is included in the ROM and released with Android 4.4, it doesn't matter which version of Google-Search you have installed. As long as you have updated to Android Kitkat 4.4 or newer, you won't be able to search the contentproviders of installed apps.
Nevertheless, I found this nifty, but ugly and ad-driven little app, which mimics device-search:
https : // play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.startapp.quicksearchbox
You should decline the initial request and ignore its Android 2.x-ugliness, though.
It takes some getting used to, but it works.

was a very usefull option :crying::crying::crying:
Hello I have installed Archidroid 2.5 ROM, but I have a problem with the research on the phone.
When I enter in the settings of google and now I open the page "search on the phone" there is no app is completely empty.
So I can not look in the app Email.
I think this problem is related to the app Google now.
So there is no way to make it work on the Cyano rom based?
Possible solution
Try to uninstall Google Search and do a update from Google Play. Worked for me.
I recently updated my phone to 4.4.3
When I did I noticed that I am not having problems using the Google Search Widget on the home page and within Google Now. When I try to search for something with the keyboard I get a message that says cant load search results. The odd thing is that if I search for the same thing by voice it works just fine. Google Search within Chrome will work fine too with voice or keyboard.
I thought this was an issue with 4.4.3 so I went back to 4.4.2 and same problem! I don't know whats going on this just started for me today. If I clear the data for Google Search it seems to fix it temporarily but it always come back.
Others seem to be having this problem. There are several posts at the bottom from today: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=65976
Here is a screenshot of the error:
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-...87-h865-no/Screenshot_2014-06-05-23-01-46.png
Anyone know of a fix?

I have the same issue, just started happening. The problem only affects the Google search widget and search for web. The image, video, etc searches all work.
I think it's pretty wide-spread. I've got 4 devices, some on 4.4.3 and some on 4.4.2 and its occurring on all of them.
There's a pretty long thread on Google Groups here:
Apparently they are aware of the issue and are working on a fix.
*edit - ugh can't post links yet. try this goo.gl/0UnHF8

Clearing the data on the Google Search App fixes the issue for one search but after I search again it says the same thing. Also images, news, videos and all that other stuff works fine its just web that is broken.
I have been having the same issue for the last 2 days.
After clearing the cache from "Google Search, Google Play and Google Now" I turned and updated each app one by one.
I have discovered that with Google Now DEACTIVATED Search works fine on all my devices.
Samsung S4
Samsung Pro 8.4
Samsung Note 3
Hope this helps.
Google Play Services is continually stopping on ALL of my Android devices. I have searched and done extensive troubleshooting, but have no idea what to try next.
I believe that this issue is somehow related to my Google account. I believe this because:
It happens on all of my devices (unrooted Verizon Galaxy S4, latest 4.4.2 update; 2012 Nexus 7 rooted running latest CM nightly; Android VM in VirtualBox running 4.3)
If I log in to any of my devices with another Google account, the issue does not occur.
I have tried other ROMs, wiping, clearing cache and data, changing my Google account password - honestly, I do not know what is causing this. And to witness it on a VM in VirtualBox with nothing but the OS and GApps was the final straw, causing this post.
I am a technical guy, I've been in the IT field professionally for over 15 years, and have been tinkering since I got an Amiga 500 in 1988. I've got some background, and it takes a lot for me to reach out for help because I'm a "fix it myself" type... but I am honestly at my wit's end here.
The only other solution I can see would be to create a new Google account, but that's not really an option, considering I would lose my paid apps, and anything else associated to that account.
Any other ideas or advice is appreciated.

Please read this thread ... it is about an inverted Google Play store app (which you don't need), but there is a troubleshooting guide in the first post.
Try those steps ... fixed this kind of issue for many other users.

Thanks - I apologize for not mentioning this.
The issue is not with the Play Store - it is with Google Play Services. So, anything utilizing Google Play Services (basically, anything Google, and then-some) causes this issue. Hangouts, Maps, Play Store, Music, my RSS reader (D7), etc.
And again, my phone is unrooted, and I've factory reset my phone - it happens as soon as I log in with my Google account, without any apps installed, other than those from the factory ROM. Same can be said for my tablet, and my VM - and my Android VM is as clean as they come.
Any other possibilities?

Factory reset worked for most users with a similar issue.
The user here just had to clear data of his Google apps/account.
If that doesn't help in your case, I think you have to contact the Google support to check your Google account.

Yeah, factory reset, clearing app data/cache - none of those worked. Like I said, this happens across all of my devices, and only under my account.
How does one actually contact Google support for assistance with a Google account? Their help/support section seems to trail into an endless loop of self-help without a means of contact (or maybe I just missed it).

Unfortunately XDA Assist can't help to contact the Google support.
If you can not get help to "fix" your Google account, maybe you really have to create a new one.
Some app developers will give you access to their apps when you explain what happened and that you bought the paid version already with your original account.
BTW... can you log into your Google account via browser?
Then check all account settings ... hopefully you find something I can't see from"here".

Thanks for trying to help me out here, It_ler.
I looked through every aspect of my account within the Google account dashboard, but nothing stands-out to me as a remote or possible cause for this issue I am experiencing.
I also looked for a means to contact Google for specific support via an online form or e-mail, to no avail.
Finally, I confirmed that it is not possible to transfer my paid apps to a new account en masse, or even one at a time. 52 app purchases at $135.28 is not something I can justify throwing away. Though I don't use all of them, I do have about a dozen+ that I use routinely.
This is really unfortunate. Anyone else have any other suggestions?

XDA Assist is not the right place to start a kind of "brainstorming for a solution".
You can post either in General forum, or better in Questions & Answers forum.
Sorry that I couldn't help directly ...
