GPS Troubles - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hello everyone:
I recently purchased the HTC One X from At&t and am having an issue with the gps. When I use google maps I have no problems. My issue is when for instance type the name of a store in google. The listing shows up and then there is a tab that says "diections." When i click on "Directions," i do not get the choice of doing so with maps or navigation. So after I do this, "my location" is never pulled and I cannot get the exact directions.
Is anyone else having this issue?
Thanks for all of the help.

Because google search wasn't designed for that. That will require html 5 and user permission. Just use google maps to search if you want directions.or you can try bing search on the browser. Last time I tried, it can take GPS locations and give out direction in the browser.

I have requested this thread be moved to Q&A.
On another not, Foxbob121, on my last phone, when i clicked on directions a screen popped up asking me if i wanted to get the directions from google maps or use the att option. This does not happen on this phone. Any ideas?

Different phones have different implementations. Since Apple owns most of these patents, HTC has to remove (or work around) a lot of features previously existed (HTC lost a law suit last year to Apple).

[Q] Looking for this type of APP

I am looking for this type of APP.
A team of us works in 3rd world countries where street addresses are just not the same as back in North America; that is an understatement.
It would be nice to have an APP where I could add a geo point (if that is what they are called) to a map when I go to a location. I could then add a note about that location and the services, etc found there. My colleagues in another cities could also do the same. However, this would all be on one account so that all geo caches could be available to the whole team. When I add a geo cache to my phone it also adds it to their phones.
At the moment if this is only available on Android then it would work. However, some of the team also have iPhones so we would love something for both of these systems.
Look forward to your opinions and suggestions.
Thanks.
I remember Google Maps and Latitude can offer you this very service, you could checkin and add new locations, I don't know about privacy of these new added locations. so you need to look into it... before making it very public.
Thanks for your reply.
I will try using Google Maps a little more and see what I can fiind.
You mentioned Latitude. Is that an app? I searched for it in the Marketplace but nothing showed up.
Yes, lattitude is an app. maybe you should try different versions of your spelling or adding 'Google' in front of it, I'm not certain but it IS an app.

Google Latitude is part of Google Maps afaik. If you have maps, then it should be there.
From http://www.google.com/mobile/latitude/
Latitude is part of Google Maps for mobile on most phones. See supported phones in the Help Center for details.

Get the NEW GOOGLE MAPS here

Just installed it and loving it. Supposedly will only run on 4.2 or higher unless you wait for the official update on play store. I was waiting for this so figured I would share the knowledge.

My HTC One on AT&T has not gotten the Maps update yet. I downloaded the APK from Androidpolice and it's working, but now I read there is a 7.0.1 update where they added the Offline maps selection when viewing the map (as opposed to having to type "Ok Maps" in the first release). However, I cannot find an updated APK for Android 4.1.2 devices... the two APK's I downloaded which were 7.0.1 could not be parsed because I'm not on 4.2. Anyone know where I can find the 7.0.1 APK for Android 4.1.2?
Also, for those of you with HTC One's, can you confirm whether addresses from the Phone application will open the new Google Maps app? On my device, if I click on an address from the Phone/Contacts app, it doesn't do anything now, whereas before it would open the address in Google Maps (on the older version).
Anyone else?

Same here. Actually, when I tap an address in contacts, it opens at&t navigator, which I am not using. I disabled it and now nothing happens at all when you tap the address. I was hoping that by disabling the at&t navigator it would default back to Google maps.
Also, if you just tap in the empty search bar, it will bring up the information cards. Just scroll down to the bottom and the option to store the map offline is already there in this version.

Yeah, somehow the contacts app just lost connection to the maps app with this version, so even if you don't have another app set as default, it just does nothing when you click an address. My initially was opening Glympse because I had that installed, but even after uninstalling it, it still isn't opening Maps. Definitely a bug between the HTC contacts app and the new Maps... which means it's probably not going to fixed for some time. I'm hoping that the upcoming HTC One update to 4.2 will fix it... but who knows when AT&T will be rolling that out. I'm not interested at this time in rooting my phone and installing a custom rom to try to fix this.
Thanks for the tip about the offline maps setting, I found it.
EDIT: There is still a way to get a contact address to appear in the new maps. Just start typing the name of the contact that has an associated address and it'll show up in the search results. Not as convenient, but at least it's a workaround for now!
I like it but driving along the navigation lags behind where I actually am

I received the 7.0.1 update through the Play store this afternoon (I'm on AT&T stock 4.1.2). When I click on addresses in Contacts it gives me the option to open the address with AT&T Navigator or Waze but not Maps. Not sure what the behavior was with earlier versions of Maps because I never tried it before now.

The correct behavior would be to ask you what app to use for links, including the Maps app. But since the link to Maps is broken, it is just asking you amongst your other compatible apps. If you don't have any other compatible apps, it will do nothing when you select an address.
Note that this just happens in the Phone/Contacts app though in Sense. If you use Chrome or another Google app that has an address or map link, it will still open in the new Maps. So it might be something HTC has to fix, or it might be something just broken with the API in the new Maps app. Only time will tell, but as I mentioned, you can start typing a contact name in the new Maps app, and it will show the address, so that's a workaround for now.
I had to uninstall and reinstall old version. If I zoom out past a certain point, the map doesn't render.. I'm on ARHD 12 if that matters.

It's hard to say whether it's your custom rom or not, but the maps renders fine at all zoom levels on my HTC One running 4.1.2 stock.

Google play shows "no result" to everything I search

Hello everyone, I'm having a strange issue on my RAZR HD, to be specific, this is happening on Google Play Store, no matter what I search for it shows "no results" what can I do to fix this?

It happens to me too, for 2 days now, but I don't think it's device specific, it happens on the desktop browser version of google play store as well ...
Seriously? I thought this was only me as I saw my friend was completely able to look for apps and download them on his phone, but I don't know. I have tried all from clearing the cache, to factory reseting, to force stop the app and nothing have worked for me so far.
Sent from my XT925 using xda app-developers app
Have out try to do the search from a desktop browser? Still no results found for me, starting to get really strange, and my friend couldn't get any search results neither.
I searched for apps on my fathers phone which is a RAZR HD also, still shows no results, also on a friends phone it doesn't show any results either, so I guess this problem is with the play store

Im having the same issue on my Galaxy S4 on both the default rom and CM. I live in Puerto Rico, maybe google plays has issues with my location again.....
Also my father Nexus 4 has the same issues, but a friend with ATT that shows up as in the US does not have the issue.
I too live in Puerto Rico, I have a RAZR HD from Claro and my father also has the same phone, both of our phones show the same thing in the Play Store: "no results". My friend phone is from At&t and it doesn't have this problem so I guess this is location issues

I think I know what it is...some time ago Google Play had problems with our Carrier as it is only carrier going to the internet with an IP from Puerto Rico insted of the US ( ATT and T-Mobile have US IP addresses. ) and white-listed Claro IP Address to fix it, it seems they changed the gateway ( The ip witch all claro phones show on the internet ) upon looking the gataway the new ip is 63.135.255.92, probable changed this sunday when changed the new firewall gateway and that seems to have screwup everything.....
Great, now to wait when they're going to fix that, if they will.

Hey,
am having the same problem as well on my Motorola Atrix 4g. The play store keeps giving me the message "no result" to everything I search. Even when searching for apps via the web (on my computer) i get the same message as well.
though that problem, I'm still able to download apps from the home page using different categories and directly from Google search which gives the link to the play store ... the problem only occurs when i try the search for any app within Google play.
I Even tried searching using a new account, but the same issue happened.
I contacted Google support and they told me to clear the cache and uninstall the updates from Google play store. That still didn't solve my problem....and this problem is not device specific because it happens to me while using the computer.
I gave the the Google support tech my issue and email and as of this moment am currently awaiting an email from the support team to see if they could solve this problem.
p.s anyone with a solution please help

If you are from outside the continental US, use a proxy to enter the Google store with an US IP address, also clear the browser cache/cookies before using the proxy trick.

Your bug is related to ours in the sense that its Google Play having issues with Caribbean Users, but my fix migth work for you phone too.
THE FIX
But not exactly the same as the Puerto Rico Claro users ( Me ) for those using Claro , I found a temporary fix.... It seems Google screwup again not acepting Claro Carrier number (330110) you will need to change to fake your Carrier Provider. Ex: use Tmobile or ATT Carrier number
A) Theres an app that can do this if you got root on your phone : https://market-enabler.googlecode.com/files/MarketEnabler_v3113.apk
B) Alernative without ads (also requires root) : http://amip.tools-for.net/ds/dl.php?f=/files/MarketAccess.apk
I live in Asia area and I have the exact same problem (for almost a week now)... no sure how Google can mass up with their store like this
Thanks alot for your help man :good: ... but will Google fix their problem in the future... since this problem happened to you in the past or will i have to use this method permanently?
I've been looking for fixes for you guys, I read this: https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/2462844?hl=en
only thing it says is Google Play Movies is not avaliable.
what about the app called "Market Enabler"

The thing about movies not avaliable happens if you put Puerto Rico as Country in your google profile, but if you put Puerto Rico as State and US as Country Movies does work without a problem.
Market Enabler is one of the apps I sugested as temporary fix, but its filled with ads, MarketAccess is a fork I found that works and does not have the ads.

[Q] Voice Actions on Note 3?

Hello all!
I'm trying to get the old google voice search to work on my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (n9005). Here's a link to the app in question.
Edit: I'm apparently not allowed to post links since I'm a relatively new member. If you search for "Voice Search" on Google Play, you'll see it.
I dislike the new google voice search and I'd prefer to revert to this. Sadly, even though I did manage to successfully install the app after rooting and removing the newer version, I can't get the voice commands to work. I've done a number of google searches on the subject and I can't find anything helpful. I already have the language set to US English.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance!

Back to Android after four years, bit lost on some unrelated things...

I just need some help if someone is willing...
1. I just moved to Canada from France where I used to have an Android phone and Android tablet. I've changed every single location setting imaginable in every single settings menu on my new Blu Life One X and STILL the Play store insists on showing up in French with euros. Where do I make this change? The new phone has a Canadian SIM and logs in all day from a Canadian location. Even Google Maps knows where I am.
2. Notifications are pop ups to tell you that something is new in an app: a message, an update, etc.
Syncing is the application connecting with servers to update data.
Notifications seems easy to find but is there one SPECIFIC place to stop both of them if one wants? I feel like there are apps doing background syncing that I don't want to be doing so and can't for the life of me find where to get them to stop.
Thanks for any help guys. I appreciate it.

I'm assuming so that the phone itself instead of just your apps would know which region it is in, therefore, showing the currency for that country. Using just location services may not be enough.

Not necessarily French but at least CANADIAN, its about getting the phone set to the correct region, not necessarily a specific language. You WERE in France so I suggested French, that's all.

Sign into Google Wallet and click the Settings icon in the top-right corner.
Click Edit next to the "Home address" listed and update the address (please note this is different from the "Address book" which holds shipping addresses).
Open the Google Play website and navigate to any paid item available for download at Android Apps on Google Play.
Click to begin a download until you reach the 'Accept and buy' screen (no need to complete the purchase).
Close Google Play and clear your browser cache if you're on a desktop or laptop computer.
Wait 30 minutes.
Re-open the Google Play. You should now see the Play Store that matches the country in your legal address.
(If this doesn't work, remove any existing cards)
