[Q] Rooting HTC One - General Questions and Answers

Hi there, I was wondering if it's possible to root the HTC One (international model, i live in Sweden) without voiding warranty? I just want to root it (superuser), I don't intend to flash the kernel or anything like that.
Thanks

When you root you'll lose warranty but you can usually return to stock somehow and get the warranty back. As for the guide that should be easy enough to find with a quick search.

So if it breaks it's easy to make it "legit" again? So that i can get it repaired?

If your phone breaks, you can flash back to stock ROM and return it for repair

Unlocking This Phone for Rogers?

So I just got my new Inspire today in the mail but I have been having a b!tch of a time trying to unlock it!
So far both Cell Unlock Store & HTC Unlock have not been able to find a code to unlock it?
I received a reply back from both and thus far Cell Unlock Store is the only one who refunded me immediately upon finding no code...still waiting on a refund from the HTC place...won't use them again
Has anyone else had success or failures unlocking this device short of rooting it?
Cheers

Honestly rooting it is the easiest way.
OK but will rooting shaft me on warranty issues?
Can I still run the stock Sense etc minus the bloatware via rooting?

Accidentally hit thanks sorry about that. It will "void your warranty" while it is rooted unlocked and s-off, but to get your warranty back all you have to do is flash the ruu which is in the dev section.
There are a few stock rooted roms that actually improve the speed of the stock rom while removing bloat.
There is a few people on here that have had a rooted inspire then took it in for warranty.
What is the best kit for rooting then?
Never rooted an Android device so how long does it take?
I would want all the HTC drivers, camera apps etc intact as I have no need for ADW etc since I dig the Sense UI

If i unroot, do i get my warranty back?

Just out of curiousity, i used superoneclick and see that you can also unroot your phone. I've also heard that rooting your phone nulls your warrenty. So im just curious, does unrooting a phone get your warranty back?

Sort of. In theory no, once you root it's gone forever, but in practice once un-rooted T-Mobile or LG has absolutely no way to know that you ever had it rooted, so for all intents and purposes it does.

[Q] any chance to root without losing a warranty?

Hello,
Is there any chance to root Sensation XE and not to lose warranty? I mean if the device will break in the future... Or there is no way to do this?

Hi,
There are ways to get temporary root HERE,but you lose everything when you reboot.
The short answer is no. Cracking your Sensation and achieving root and/or S-OFF will void your warranty.
That said, there are procedures detailed in this forum about how you can restore your phone to original settings if required.
If you are at all worried, I would do some research and ensure that there is an RUU (Rom Upgrade Utility) for your country and/or provider which can be used to revert the phone back to a stock install and review the instructions for setting the phone S-ON before proceeding.
I guess if the phone is damaged so that it can't be booted at all, then there is a reasonable chance that the warranty provider won't be able to know it's been rooted.
As with all things, this is at your own risk. If you wish to be sure your warranty will continue to cover your phone, without the possibility of argument - don't root.
If you do decide to root make sure your insurance covers you for loss and/or damage to your phone. So that you can at least get a new one if it all goes wrong and you can't return it to default.
So if i understand this right, HTC won't get notified if i root my phone with S-OFF?
I thought they could see if my phone has been rooted because my serial number would get flagged in the database.
Or is the root process described in the sticky post on how to root a Sensation not from HTC itself?

Unroot in order to have valid warranty

I searched and could not see a straight answer. I am current on version 1.73 and I have not rooted my phone. I would like to root it but scared about voiding my warranty. I have no desire to unlock the bootloader as I dont want to change roms. All I want is to have root access so I can backup my phone in case something goes wrong.
So can the phone be unrooted? Would AT&T/HTC know that I have rooted my phone and unrooted it?
If you unroot by running the ruu nobody will know you rooted.

Yes, you can restore your phone fully to stock after you root it. Once you unlock your bootloader and lock it again (while restoring to stock), it is possible that OnePlus will be able to know that the bootloader had been unlocked before.
But this shouldn't affect much because unless you are overclocking your CPU and thereby damaging the hardware components, your warranty won't be void.
