Hi,
There are ways to get temporary root HERE,but you lose everything when you reboot.
The short answer is no. Cracking your Sensation and achieving root and/or S-OFF will void your warranty.
That said, there are procedures detailed in this forum about how you can restore your phone to original settings if required.
If you are at all worried, I would do some research and ensure that there is an RUU (Rom Upgrade Utility) for your country and/or provider which can be used to revert the phone back to a stock install and review the instructions for setting the phone S-ON before proceeding.
I guess if the phone is damaged so that it can't be booted at all, then there is a reasonable chance that the warranty provider won't be able to know it's been rooted.
As with all things, this is at your own risk. If you wish to be sure your warranty will continue to cover your phone, without the possibility of argument - don't root.
If you do decide to root make sure your insurance covers you for loss and/or damage to your phone. So that you can at least get a new one if it all goes wrong and you can't return it to default.
So if i understand this right, HTC won't get notified if i root my phone with S-OFF?
I thought they could see if my phone has been rooted because my serial number would get flagged in the database.
Or is the root process described in the sticky post on how to root a Sensation not from HTC itself?

I am looking to get the HTC Vigor when it is released. I am coming from Moto Droid devices.
I know if you use the HTCdev site to unlock your phone, that it watermarks your phone voids your warranty. I watched a root video for the Evo3d and they used Revolutionary, but he still used the website in conjunction with that program
I know all rooting technically voids your warranty, but if I can root and not be flagged so I can still claim warranty, for issues regarding screen and other things not affected by root,I would like to take that route...SBF a moto and you were back to stock with no root and could safely go to verizon.
Assuming the Vigor is locked along the same manner as other HTC devices, can it be done without “HTC or Big Red” knowing? And returned to unroot status.

You will have to keep checking for updates about unlocking the Vigor when it comes out. As it is not even come out yet, there is no idea as to how long it will take for devs to find an exploit and unlock the bootloader or if they ever will find an exploit. Your best bet will probably be the Revolutionary Tool which once a exploit will be found and provide a way to root, they will add the phone to their supported phone list. Revolutionary Tool does not use the Dev site to root phones so theres no worry about water marking. And as far as i know, rooting is almost 100% reversable, you would just have to flash a stock rom and flash the S-on tool and it will appear as if your phone was never rooted. I had an evo 4g that i rooted and then had the power button go on it and had to get it replaced. I followed the steps to unroot a phone and it worked flawlessly.
I searched and could not see a straight answer. I am current on version 1.73 and I have not rooted my phone. I would like to root it but scared about voiding my warranty. I have no desire to unlock the bootloader as I dont want to change roms. All I want is to have root access so I can backup my phone in case something goes wrong.
So can the phone be unrooted? Would AT&T/HTC know that I have rooted my phone and unrooted it?
If you unroot by running the ruu nobody will know you rooted.

YES the only thing right now if i'm not wrong is to flash stock 1.73 RUU http://briefmobile.com/download-att-htc-one-x-stock-ruu and u can always check the thread on xda also how to do.....just plug ur phone with all the driver needed....and walla ur phone back to ATT stock

teoreticaly yes, you lose warranty.
but you can unroot it.
Actually technically the answer is NO. Rooting your phone should not in and of itself void your warranty, but the things you can do may and most likely will. For example lets say you root your phone and keep the stock kernel just debloat the stock ROM, and then the volume buttons stop working...unless you did hardware mods it would be under warranty. When I rooted my HTC using the HTCDev method to unlock the bootloader the disclaimer said it MAY, not that it will or does, and a few months after rooting and reading their warning I sent in my phone for warranty repair/replacement with no problems, even though my phone was documented as being rooted. Now if you hard brick your phone flashing a ROM with bad mount points that is a different story altogether.
A few years back I had a Samsung Interceptor that I had rooted and it had an issue with a physical button (Power button I believe), I brought my phone to Sprint and the rep saw it was rooted (before I sprung for Superuser Elite to hide the app). His words to me were that as long as NO hardware mods were done and the phone can be flashed back to a stock state it would still be covered under warranty. Important to note...Carriers will not service a phone with a custom recovery PERIOD, which is why I left the Sprint store and reflashed the stock image to the phone.
My advice to people who are concerned with their warranties is to know exactly how to get it back to stock...before its ever customized. The reason for this should be obvious. And don't let it leave your hands (sent out for repair, or brought to the back for testing) prior to flashing it back to stock

I can probably point you in the right direction...did you unlock the bootloader or not? I am seeing a few unroot methods for locked bootloaders. If you did unlock the bootloader you will need to lock it back. Also it is important to note that some bootloaders will say *relocked* after relocking them, and not *locked* if it says *relocked* they will know it has been rooted. This is NOT a problem because once again having root access does not void the warranty, but you should be aware that if it says relocked they will know it has been rooted. This link has a root/unroot tool that may help it makes no mention of a specific firmware for your model phone so it should be fine. Also this video should help with the relock procedure but not knowing the phone I would need more specific details. Firmware and method used to root/unlock bootloader if you unlocked it. One of the relock procedures can be see here
*EDIT* I did a little looking and thought you might find this of interest. About midway through there is a section about warranty claims and returns...I didn't sign up so I can't see the links there but it should help .
Hi, I am new to HTC phones and I would like to ask a few things for the One S S4.
From what I've been reading I have to S-Off the phone, unlock the bootloader and change CID?
I want to root the phone (if it voids the warranty then I wont do it).
I want to debrand the phone to EU Open or whatever its called.
I want to be able to revert to factory condition for warranty purposes.
Whats the way to do that? Can you link me the steps in a correct order with the tutorials on XDA?
Which RUU should I use?

It voids the warranty. But you can go back to stock if needed but if there's a hardware issue you might not be able to get back so your choice.

No. At the moment, you have ***LOCKED*** written in your bootloader. If you root and de-brand your phone, it will say ***UNLOCKED***.
If you then lock it again, it will not say ***LOCKED*** but rather ***RELOCKED***. So if you take it to warranty repair, they can see that it has been previously unlocked. However, whether they accept the repair under warranty or deny it because of the unlock, is based upon circumstances.

This is a guide to S-On with ***LOCKED*** and hidden CID. I've used this on 4-5 phones this past week, works wonders and I'm almost positive a carrier can't tell it has been unlocked.

When you root you'll lose warranty but you can usually return to stock somehow and get the warranty back. As for the guide that should be easy enough to find with a quick search.
So if it breaks it's easy to make it "legit" again? So that i can get it repaired?

If your phone breaks, you can flash back to stock ROM and return it for repair
