So i have been researching this problem but couldnt find a solution! Media Server is killing my battery! but most threads are either running a Custom Rom or using an external SD card! i have neither of them, so really confused what could be causing it! I did start S-voice a couple of days ago and i think that is the culprit for it! Any Solution guys?
Thanks

Media scanner sometimes gets tripped up on files in your SD card. Having a custom rom or external SD card is not related, as it scans both your internal and external card.
Are you rooted and have a custom recovery installed? If so, formatting your SD card should fix the problem.

Hi.
I realy need help with my S3.
Thing is that when I root it and put a custom ROM, my SD Card starts acting strange: it only shows some files (like photos) on gallery while on pc or any explorer all files are shown. While playing music it often lags ant etc.
I used Paranoidandroid and omega ROMs.
Everything is ok when I unroot it...
I tried everything, formatted in different systems, but still nothing...
I have 32GB Class 10 micro SD
Help please with this problem.

Would be interested in finding out your solution... I also had sd card problems when I was rooting my friends At&t galaxy s3
I updated my drivers and everything on my computer but it was having trouble reading the sd card. Same thing in his mac. After finally getting it rooted the main problem was that it would read the s3 sd card and let me drag over a rom to flash but within the process of copying it it would close out. From the computer point of view it appeared to not be connected but from the phones view it was connected.
Clearly this is a different problem but whoever can help with the OP sd card may be able to shed light on the problem I had... my friend still has this problem when connecting his phone to add music etc.

I was going to post this in the AOKP rom page but i figured it'd get seen more here and maybe its not even a problem related to the rom. I recently installed the AOKP rom located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831858. everything was great the first day then i started getting random reboots and losing my data. So I flashed a back up and still got the same problems. I lost my data yesterday, fixed that by manually changing the APN settings and everything was fine other than still getting random reboots. today I went to take a picture and it says "no external storage". I opened root explorer and I can access my EXTERNAL SD card but not the INTERNAL. I tried to mount in via the setting, storage menu and it wont mount. Also tried mounting in CWM recovery, no dice.
Is this a hardware problem or something software related? Anyway to get my stuff back or is it gone? I thought about trying to format it through recovery but how can I do that if it wont mount? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm about to go through and install a "clean" copy of this ROM hopefully. Or I might try another ROM I know works like it should.
Installed a new Rom. Everything works perfect so far but still can't access my internal sd card. Any tricks how to get this back or do I need to just turn it in for warranty?

Warranty may be your best solution, you'll have to revert to stock using kies/odin which may on it's own fix your issue.
Are you also receiving the "Blank USB storage or has unsupported file system" error?
I have been battling this issue for a friend of mine (I own only the I9300) and I believe I have somewhat of a fix. It will allow you to use an external SD card.
If you can use / access the external SD card on your phone then disregard this message.
If you can't access any of the storage, including the external SD card try following this short tutorial I made:

The internal SD card is essentially part of the motherboard. If it's corrupted, you have no choice but to warranty the phone out. Kishke's right in that restoring to stock might be your last, best chance.
My i9305T Galaxy S3 is not reading micro SD cards at all. I have tried using the cards in my computer, and they work fine. My phone, on booting has a notification that states "Preparing SD card; Checking for errors.", Then after a minute or two, has another notification stating that the SD card is safe to remove. I have tried with multiple SD cards, they all work in a PC, but not my phone.

so the phone shows nothing when browsing trough your files with a filemanager?
In that case Are you using the stock rom? some custom roms may have problems with the reading of big (64 GB) MicroSD cards.
Format using fat32 make sure it's not xfat

Same problem
I'm close to getting a new phone. My s3 won't read any SD card I insert in. I tried formatting from exfat to NTFS and nothing changed. Also tried rebooting, switching roms, clearing my SD card, and pretty much anything else I can think of.
Any of you guys know a solution, or a potential solution?

So guys... Im back after going back to stock and STILL my phone won't recognize my SD card. Any other ideas before I call it quits and buy a new phone? really desperate here.
Helium is not recognizing that I have an EXT SD Card. Also, when I backup Nova to my EXT SD card nothing is there.. So I cannot get any of my backups!
EDIT: Now my Nova backups are showing... still no dice on Helium though!
Several apps fix it in play.

Helium still won't recognize that I have an EXT SD Card. Can you please try backing up somthing to Helium and let me know if it lets you lol. Screenshots would be appreciated!
Oops. I figured it was the other problem. Looks like helium recognizes only 1 SD card. Try copying the carbon folder to the internal card
Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk
you cant unless you are rooted
kit kat does not allow 3rd party apps to write to SD card
if you are rooted then run SDFix from the market
@studentjunk That was never the case before though on my GS4 which ran KitKat.
@evilbeef54 I already did, still no dice :/
Can someone please test it for me! Rooted and running the SD Fix (just like I am).
Sorry I wasn't clear. I did test it and no dice. it seems that my other apps recognize the external sd card.

Thanks dude! Seems it's just Helium then..
i had the same issue where SDFix didnt work for me at first check out my thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2715657
the fix is in the first post, i'm not in the sprint section much anymore since i jumped ship and ran to verizon, pm me if you run into any more trouble
I don't know if this helps you're exact issue but the last ES File manager 3.1.2 i believe, has returned read/write functionality to the SD card. That update just went live 2 days ago if you weren't aware of it, but you will still need root i think. I don't have the S5 but I'm just poking around the S5 forums to see how the opinions are going with it and thought I'd point this out.
http://www.androidauthority.com/es-file-explorer-sd-card-root-370162/
I had my issue resolved. I edited the platform.XML myself and fixed it... but I thought it wasn't fixed because Helium couldn't see my EXT SD Card.... but I now realize it is a Helium problem! I am allowed to change things on my EXT SD Card, write files to there, etc.
So I was on a 4.4 Rom slimkat for the longest time then I switched to a TouchWiz Rom alliance Rom then back to a 4.4 Rom slimkat which in on now, my problem now is that I can't seem to save data to my sd card now like I was able to before.I have read something about this but not sure how to make it to where I can download and save stuff to my sd card instead of my internal storage.any thoughts?
Something about moving/deleting all the files off of the emulated folder?
Anyone?

KitKat doesn't have write access to the micro SD card, so you have to save to phone memory then cut/copy/paste it to micro SD.

Lol no, if this were the case, how would devs ever upload a file for us to download and provide an md5 without it changing? The md5 changes once you modify the zip itself. Cut/copy/paste just moves the file.

In some cases I ran into issues doing that as well, cutting and pasting resulted in corrupted data.
The workaround is giving the file manager app root permissions, since with root there's some kind of workaround.
I use ES File Manager, had issues before I gave it root, but after I gave it root copying/moving hasn't had issues.
Well hell I probably have to format my sd card I can't even delete stuff off it, keeps saying delete failed

Get a new SD card, it might be corrupted, might be easier than trying to fix it. Plus SD cards are super cheap as it is
From my CM11 S3
Yep had a new 16GB laying around the old one was corrupted
Had this happen to two 64GB cards so far. Could read them but couldn't write. Seems to be a GS3 issue with ruining sdcards

I've had 3 separate SD cards and haven't had any issues. While it may be a known issue I haven't seen any problems myself

I have been lucky with it until recently lasted me two years the 64GB card did.

Easy Fix
I ran into this problem when I finally updated my phone to KitKat and a little searching around these forums resulted in the discovery of exactly what causes the problem and what fixes it. It was already mentioned that KitKat doesn't support writing directly to external SD card from apps. There are a few lines of a config file that can be changed to fix this. There is also a free app available in the Play store that does it for you, but it requires root. It's called SD Fix: KitKat and I would have included a link but I haven't posted enough times yet to post outside links.
