internal sd card wont mount - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I was going to post this in the AOKP rom page but i figured it'd get seen more here and maybe its not even a problem related to the rom. I recently installed the AOKP rom located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831858. everything was great the first day then i started getting random reboots and losing my data. So I flashed a back up and still got the same problems. I lost my data yesterday, fixed that by manually changing the APN settings and everything was fine other than still getting random reboots. today I went to take a picture and it says "no external storage". I opened root explorer and I can access my EXTERNAL SD card but not the INTERNAL. I tried to mount in via the setting, storage menu and it wont mount. Also tried mounting in CWM recovery, no dice.
Is this a hardware problem or something software related? Anyway to get my stuff back or is it gone? I thought about trying to format it through recovery but how can I do that if it wont mount? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm about to go through and install a "clean" copy of this ROM hopefully. Or I might try another ROM I know works like it should.

Installed a new Rom. Everything works perfect so far but still can't access my internal sd card. Any tricks how to get this back or do I need to just turn it in for warranty?

Warranty may be your best solution, you'll have to revert to stock using kies/odin which may on it's own fix your issue.

Are you also receiving the "Blank USB storage or has unsupported file system" error?
I have been battling this issue for a friend of mine (I own only the I9300) and I believe I have somewhat of a fix. It will allow you to use an external SD card.
If you can use / access the external SD card on your phone then disregard this message.
If you can't access any of the storage, including the external SD card try following this short tutorial I made:

The internal SD card is essentially part of the motherboard. If it's corrupted, you have no choice but to warranty the phone out. Kishke's right in that restoring to stock might be your last, best chance.

Often times a damaged sd card can be repaired by formatting in another device such as an external card reader, camera, or other phone however as noted all data will be lost. You could attempt to clone the disk using WinHex, saving the data to a file, reformatting the card and then attempt to retrieve the data manually.

yeah, but it is not working. I tried to reformat/wipe it on my pc, but then it says something like the card timedout.
then i tried to format it on his and my nexus one, but it is not working. it says that the card is blank. Maybe it is but i am still seeing the contents when i look at it on my computer.
oh yeah, i could see everything on my pc, but when i try copying over the data it says 'path is too deep'
i also tryied to partition it using cwm and amon ra, but no luck.
anything else.....i should try?
Do you have Swapper for Root or anything similar? That is probably the cause.

[Q] Strange SD card problem??

Hey guys
I have Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9003, and I am using the vold.fstab mod for swapping the internal Sd card for the external. I have every thing running fine. But I noticed a strange problem. When I open applications, it seems like the memory card gets mounted in read-only mode, as when I try to use any file explorer to remove files, it cannot delete until I either use root explorer with mounting as R/W mode, or rebooting the device. If so, things get fixed, but after some use, the problem recurs. Besides, I noticed that while the problem is active, the gallary opens empty with a message showing up "No SD card detected". Otherwise, and even with the problem is active, apps open normally and flawlessly, but unable to write files or delete them. Rebooting always fixes the problem.
Any idea why this is happening?
BTW, the card is very new and healthy, and opens perfectly with card reader on windows, and sends and receives files to and from the computer very fast, and it is 16 GB.
Thank you
I solved that problem after months of research... You see, the problem is corruption... The explanation is very very complicated so I am giving you the things you need to do to fix that read only problem...
(Should be done by steps)
1. Put your sdcard in a card reader (recommended) and use chkdsk /r (if you are using windows)... Or simply go to drive properties and go to error checking, check all the boxes and start scanning until finish... Put your card back to the phone... Check if the problem still persisit... If it still persist, do step 2...
2. Backup all files to your computer... Reboot your phone to recovery mode and use the format sdcard option in the mount and storage menu... Restore all data afterwards.. If it still persist, do step 3..
3. Believe it or not, some files in your sdcard are causing a data corruption (This was my issue).. The only fix for this is to find out what files are corrupted... Mostly, the directory that contains these files are from:
sdcard/Android/
sdcard/Gameloft/
sdcard/data/
sdcard/lost.dir/
Do step 2 first... When attempting to restore the files back to your sdcard, do not include this directories... This will more likely solve your problem...
4. Some tweaks such as sdcard speed tweak and other sdcard related tweaks in init.d folder is causing this problem... Try to boot your phone without them and see if it works....
Thank you very much.
I really have some gameloft games installed and believe it or not, the problem is almost always occurring when I open these games !!
I will try your solution and inform you of the results .
BTW, what if the problem is caused by the files of these games? And what if the problem recurred after restoring these files? Is there a permanent fix for that?
Thank you

It seems like it's SD card problem, although it's new!!
I was playing on a game installed on USB Storage, and all of a sudden the game became unresponsive. I then forced reboot the device, and when restarted, SD became unavailable!! I went to "SD and storage" settings and both SD card and USB storage give "Unavailable". Pressing on "Mount SD card" does not work! Formatting is not working!!
Any suggestions guys??

BTW, I remind you that I am using the vold.fstab mod, gingerbread version. I tried to install another SD from my friend's phone that is working fine in his AT&T Galaxy S i9000, but once done, it gives me "USB Storage damaged" !!!!!!!

Seems like I lost my SD card
It opens normally in Windows, and I could back it up. When I delete all files, it gives that they were deleted. But when I eject it and reinsert it, the files are not removed
Neither formatting nor chkdsk in Windows work
GParted gives "Unable to open /dev/... as read-write (file system read-only)"
Any suggestions??

do you mind to post a screen short by command mount in adb shell?
Actually, I took the memory card back to the reseller, and they changed it for another working one. I just dont know why would all of this happen! The card is new, but there were problems preceding its damage, like the aforementioned problem of read-only!!

Actually, during searching for a solution for my problem, some websites suggested the following:
1- if your card gives you that it is read only, try to use micro SD adapter, and put the lock half way between the locking position and the unlocking one, th en try to perform chkdsk, followed by formatting attempt.
2- if formatting has failed, try to use GParted (bootable live disk is available online and can be downloaded).
Your internal SD will subsequently be recovered once the external is recovered, or simply, put a new external SD of whatever size, and you will regain access to your internal SD, and thats supposing you are using vold.fstab mod
Please let us know of the results , hopefully it works with you

How to flash a ROM with out USB

I've done a very silly thing and fear I may have bricked my phone
A little while ago my phone's USB connection kicked the bucket and in a rather foolish attempt to get rid of everything I re-formatted the lot and now have a completely non-functioning phone
I have a Samsung Galaxy S (GT-I9000) and had "ClockworkMod Revovery v2.5.1.3" installed with a "Voodoo Lagfix" when things started to go a little funky. Wanting to remove any trace of hackery before sending the phone back for warranty I booted into recovery mode and reformatted every partition I could, one after the other, only to discover that not only did this not remove the hacked boot-loader but it completely rendered my phone unusable! Now, without any image installed and not having a functioning USB connection I've been unable to flash a working ROM back again.
I do, however, still have a working ClockworkMod Recovery and have noted there is an option to "mount /sd-ext" and I am hoping there may be a way to sneak an image on to the phone through the external SD then use "choose zip from sdcard" to re image the phone. Anyone know if this is possible, and if so, would someone care to guide me through the process??
I came across this thread: Can I flash roms from external SD
Where the response was: "Yes, you can, just mount it from the CWM Recovery and you're set." which gives me hope but I'm not able to get there alone.
I have tried mounting the external SD card but get the message:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p2
(File exists)
Error mounting SDEXT:!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
You can copy rom on sd card, and flash in recovery mod

Thanks for that, I'm just not quite sure how to do it.
As I said I'm not able to mount the external SD card at the moment and even then I'm not quite sure what to do. If I do manage to mount it will it then be possible to navigate to the extranal SD with the "install zip from sdcard"?
In the mean time I have come across this nice looking tutorial for flashing to ICS but it says "Copy the downloaded ROM to your phone’s internal SD card (not microSD card)" which for me, sadly, is not an option :,-(
By the way, I'm not particularly fussed wich version of Android I managed to flash, I just want to be able to use my phone again.
Hmmm,
After more digging I've come to understand more about what I have done...
It would appear that what I did was foolishly reformat my system partition with out having another ROM to replace it - but it seems I may well have narrowly avoided formatting the boot partition.
Since doing this I have come across this extremely good advice:
Take extreme care with this option as formatting any of these partitions will result in losing all data on them, especially the boot and system partitions. Formatting the system partition will remove your ROM and leave your phone without an operating system while wiping the boot partition may brick your phone unless you restore or flash another one before rebooting your device. If only I'd read that before
I've also come to realize the "sd-ext" is not the external SD card at all and is in fact a kind of "extra" partition used especially for flashing ROMs.
So my problem gets deeper...
Is there any possible way to flash a ROM onto a phone with a formatted system partition and no working USB connection?
If there is, I'd dearly like to know how.
You can buy a micro usb card reader to transfer the ROM from your PC to your sd card then flashing it using CWM.

Sorry to be so darft but I can't work out how to flash from the external SD.
- By external I mean the removable micro SD card which is actually inside the phone.
I have another phone with which I can put the image on to the micro SD card, I'm just not sure what to do with it once I have it there.
I must be missing something pretty obvious because several people have said "just use CWM to flash from the SD card" but to be honest I just can't work out how to do it :s
I can get the image onto the micro SD card fine, the problem is that once I have the micro SD card with the new image on it in my 'bricked' phone I can't find how to get access to it with CWM?
if you can enter on cwm (home+vol up) you can flash all by your sd card, download a rom for your galaxy s, prefer for the official ones, put the zip on your sdcard, put your phone on cwm and select "install zip from external sd". i hope this help.
Idk if galaxy s have usb otg, but if have you can mount external usb in cwm.
and if you stay without understanding how to do it with cwm, go to galaxy s xda area:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=656
i hope you will find a good tutorial in there.
good luck
Hmm, just read a comment some where randomly on the internet:
"Depend on your CWM version, v5 install from external SD card by default. But you can select install from internal SD card too."
Perhaps "install from external SD card" is not supported in my version of CWM (v2.5.1.3 on a Samsung Galaxy S).
Maybe I should go ask about it in the SGS specific section.

Hehe, took the works right out of my mouth.
Thanks.
You essentially NEED adb access to push a rom to internal, as your phone's CWM version doesn't support external-sd card. Can you get ahold of another working cable? This would be the best route.

Thanks, I'm pretty certain it's the phones USB socket that is the problem though. It stopped responding to USB after a camping trip I went on and since then, even when it had a working ROM, I was unable to mount it as external storage. I have tried several cables and a couple of different computers and while it charges fine I was unable to get it to 'connect' as such. I have also checked the main cable I've been using with a different device and the cable worked as expected. When I started to get desperate I scrubbed it with a tooth brush and I even took the phone completely apart to sprayed the port with electrical contact cleaner but alas, it was to no avail.
I'm affraid i'm going to have to resolve this one sans USB
Why don't you buy a new cable ? An USB cable is always useful for daily use..

Stock UCLF6 writing to external_sd not working

I updated to ICS 4.0.4 (UCLF6) using CWM. I just noticed I am unable to make changes to external_sd. Initially, I was using an app to move installed apps to the external sd. Then after a reboot, I noticed my phone would say those apps were not installed. I also tried copying a file to external_sd using SSH/SCP. Everything shows the file there. In the past, the media scanner would kick in an run right after but it does not run.
Anyhow, after a reboot, the files I just copied are gone as well.
The 2 issues leads me to believe that writing to external_sd is not working.
Anyone else seen this issue? Are you able to write to external_sd and not lose the data after a reboot?
Phone is rooted.
SD card faulty?
You might check to make sure your SD card isn't faulty. I had a similar problem and I couldn't even write files or format the card from a PC. Ended up getting it replaced under warranty.
If you connect to a PC and are able to write files to it then I'm not sure what it could be.
Possibly but very unlikely. I upgraded to ICS from GB using zip files that I placed on the external sd. I suppose I could try and revert back to GB to confirm the external sd still works.
What I will do next is to copy all of the data off the external sd and reformat it from CWM. Let's see if that works.
The odd thing is I am able to write/delete stuff on the external sd. There are no errors in such operations. However, if the phone reboots, then all changes are lost.
It's almost as if the entire external sd were mapped to and running from memory. So you can apply any changes you want but they get lost when the power goes out (ie. reboot).
It seems I'm the only one seeing this issue. Have not heard anyone else seeing the same.

sd card cant mount

Hi people!
I have a big problem for quite long time...i cant mount my sd card. Under storage (sd card) total space: unavailable, available space: unavailable. mount sd card, erase sd card,sd card encryptin are all grayed. I am on stock rom 3.20.502.52. i also tried to mount it on previous stock roms. I am S-on...i had rooted phone and didnt wont to mount it also so i returned to stock to try. I treied almost everything that i could remember. I formated my card in computer,no luck i tried with diffrent sd card,no luck. I tried with adb command, fastboot oem enableqxdm 0,it says ok but still can mount, tried with fastboot eom eraseconfig but i culdnt execute that command, some error dont now which one...oo tried that all while i had rooted inspire. All my card works fine in diffrent phone but not in mine, please help,i am going crazy. I cant take photos, listen music, almost nothing
Other than something being stuck in the adapter I would say the reader needs to be replaced. Probably not what you want to hear.

I had this happen to me after downloading around 285 apps. I had most of my apps stored on the sd card once downloaded and had no problems; then all of a sudden after rebooting the Inspire would not recognize the sd card or unmount. I tried almost everything until I came across a post regarding the amount of apps stored on the sd card. The only solution (bear with me while I try to explain this) was to transfer most of the apps back to phone until I got the amount of files stored in the asec folder under the total amount of internal memory available on the phone; which for me was 1.14GB. I haven't had the problem since and now the app icons show up on my home screen without several reboots and my card can finally be unmounted. Hope that helps.
Any fix? I have same problem
