[Q] My display has a pink tint. - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My tablet - Note 10.1 N8010, rooted, stock - has a pinkish hue since new.
This is clearly evident when looking at white backgrounds.
My wife's identical Note 10.1, on the other hand, has beautiful whites without any visible tint.
So it is not just my imagination.
Does a utility, an app, a kernel, a rom exist that allows to calibrate the display on this tablet?

Don't think so sorry.

Not exactly true.
Settings -> display -> display mode (? - not sure, using my domestic translation so i dunno how its called in english).
There are not many options, tho but it CAN be the reason if you have turned on the cinema mode or sth by accident.
And if u want to troubleshoot the issue:
U should make a screen capture and send the screenshot jpg to the other tablet.
If itll be displayed in white - it may be hardware.
If itll be displayed in pink - it is the software.

samsung note 3 display colors vs mega 5.3

I swiched to samsung note 3 from samsung mega 5.3
Ive noticed that Note 3 colors are a bit dull just like s3. If u open a white image in both mobiles simultaneously u can clearly spot tgat mega's display is much nicer.
Ive tried the display options but still its not much different.
Anyone else noticed this? Any solutions?

The Note 3 and Mega line use different panels. Note 3 uses AMOLED while the Megas use LCDs (probably IPS or even TFT). I don't think there's much you can do to remedy this as I'm pretty sure what you're experiencing is just a "quirk" of AMOLED.

Thanks for your reply.
Ive been using note for a month now. I came across mega the other day(after a month) and really loved the feel and look of it
that tft display was more beautiful.
Besides that note 3 is awesome mobile love it. Gonna get used to colors
Its personal preference. I myself dont think I'll ever want to use IPS displays ever again.
I personally cant stand the wonky saturation in amoled displays. Currently have the screen mode on movie mode but still not perfect. Love the deep blacks though

+1 I'm in the same camp. Im on the movie mode screen profile and have also installed the app Lux. Setting the WB to Fluorescent(under night mode), to my eyes, improves the colour accuracy.

i just really can't understand how someone else might not like the colors on note 3.. so vivid, so colorful. i wish my monitor and my tv were like that.
no offence, but this is like the sharpest thing i've seen in a looong time. everytime i have to switch to a different technology my eyes nearly bleed..

Its just that some people like myself prefer to have accurate colors instead of over saturated colors. The note 3's color calibration renders the colors almost neon looking. As for the sharpness, note 3 could still improve since it does not use the standard RGB subpixel arrangement.

[Q] yellow/orange color problem

Hi
I have exactly the same problem as described in this Note 10.1(2014) post:
"Hi there,
not sure if it is the same thing. No matter what [Display/screen] mode I choose, yellow comes out quite muddy and dirty, I am not able to get a clear, nice yellow out of the screen, always turns out like brownish. Is this common? I had read about "accurate colors" which isn't the case with my unit. Other colors seem more natural to me...
Thanks in advance

On my screen, all other colors than yellow/orange look great....
But the difference in yellow/orange - when compared with a Galaxy s4 or iPad - is clearly visible. Have a look at a Shell, Tide or DHL logo or compare with the yellow in the chrome logo.
Does anyone experience the same issue?
yellow/orange color problem example picture
Here is an example of the different yellow colors between Note Pro 12.2, Galaxy S4 and iPad2 in a picture (out of camera).
Similar case to the lenovo Yoga 2 Pro "yellow correction"?
I hope it's not similar to the Lenovo "yellow correction" problem. The display of the yoga 2 Pro has similar technology as the Note Pro and many Lenovo users reported the "yellow" problem (a 116 pages thread in their support forum...):
"“The Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro utilizes a Samsung LCD panel with a Pentile Red-Green-Blue-White (RGBW) pixel matrix, as opposed to a standard Red-Green-Blue (RGB) matrix on more conventional LCD panels.”
=> look for "Yoga 2 Pro 13 Yellow Color Issues" at the lenovo forums,
the pictures in the first post are very similar to mine...
The good news: It seems that a BIOS Update by Lenovo helped to solve the problem there.
I just found this issue.
In my opinion, samsung put the CMYK filter in the display software . this make bright yellow in RGB turn into "process yellow" in CMYK (make the yellow is more brown.) which is more accurate for printing .
but on the LCD screen like computor and other mobilephone, it look dull and too dark.:crying:
Might be something wrong with yours. Yellow seems ok on mine. Sm-p900 vs Nexus 10

i have another color issue but with pink color i have patches of pink color in the bottom of the screen?
Evidently. The NotePro has an LCD screen, and the S4/S5/Note 3 are AMOLED.
You can't expect the two to look alike.

Hey guys. Sorry for my english. Have you found anything else? I'm having the same problem here. Some sort of greenish yellow, but no problems with any other color.
Have you returned your tablet for RMA?
Thanks!
Hey guys. I noticed that whenever I pull down my notification / settings bar the yellows displayed on background stuff looks normal. This is kind of an annoying find, as it shows that the note pro is capable of correct colors
Same problem. Is there a solution?
I know that its a old thread, but is there a solution to that problem?
yellow on the Note Pro 12.2 looks more like mustard.

Don't compare an LCD display to a LED display, especially an AMOLED or a Retina display.
The color gamut in an AMOLED display is 4 times that of an LCD display. That means an AMOLED display can display 4 times more vibrant colours than an LCD display.
An LCD panel will never display the same level of colour vibrancy as a LED panel. Which is why LED panels are so much more expensive. (A NotePro with an AMOLED display would've cost over 2000 quid.)
There's no solution because there is no problem. It's just how an LCD displays yellow.
Using a colour correction app won't work, because you can't increase the vibrancy.

My findings with the s4 screen

So as you know the kit kat update brought back the smearing (which was more or less hidden until know) and is the most noticable when you are on the lowest brightness. But also there is a green tint on lowest brightness, most noticeably in videos. Now as you know apps like screen adjuster reduce this problem but what i found is that when activated screen adjuster (15 on contrast in my case) does the following: i was in youtube app to test and in portrait the video didn't had any green tint, while in landscape the tint appeared. And with some other video player (like mx) the tint was gone and the smearing was reduced or even gone. Note that in mx i wasn't using the screen adjuster app. So maybe just maybe there is something in the software that samsung messed up. If a dev can look into this maybe we can figure out something.
Thanks in advance and i apologise if these things were known and i wasted your time.

Been using Samsung phones aswell as others for years and never had a single fault. They all latest over a year before being sold on with zero issues. I've had an S4 since launch and it's still working perfectly. As far as reliability and build-quality goes Samsung is the best in the business, and by build quality I mean how well its assembled and reliability NOT the material the case is made of which many of you care so much about.

Same for me, i keep my screen at about half brightness and it is fine, i can't say i have looked overly close at all though..
Since the s4 true black pixels get completely turned off, the smearing you see are those pixels turning on again. It's a hardware thing.
Can't say I've noticed any difference. Can you elaborate at all?

You can see it in this video. Black pixels leave a purpleish trail on the screen. http://youtu.be/DOQ91ujRFxU
I see what you mean now, so is this a hardware limitation or somehow linked to the software (os version)

Hardware limitation of OLED screens. Pixels take some time to go from completely off (black) to a lighter color such as blue or gray resulting in that weird trailing. AFAIK, the older version of the software didn't use pure black (pixel off) in the menu but a slightly lighter shade of black (so that the pixel would not be completely off). I still noticed it in some moving scenes in movies though when pure black was used.
For the green tint I don't know, I remember when I switched from LCD on my Sony phone to the S4 I noticed it had tinted whites and weirdly saturated colors but now I'm used to it and I don't notice it anymore and I actually kinda like the saturated colors even though they aren't very realistic.
Haven't seen one since switching from my bloody ****ty Galaxy W I8150 which had a really bad white smearing effect (v3 HW rev). Using the exynos version with MFD: 2013:12:24 (christmas eve baby!)
There MIGHT be differences with screens manufactured at different time/version/revision but that's just an uneducated guess.

Display issue with S7?!

Hi, I bought S7 two week ago, and I notice that my phone have some issue with display on dark gray color, for example when you close all tabs in Chrome browser (Merge tabs and apps and home page have to be turned off). Problem is uneven color, like in the picture below. In real isn't that noticeable as on picture, but I can see it. So I just want to ask if anyone have similar issue an what do yu think about this?

Faulty screen.

i also noticed that i have some gray or black dimmed spots on my screen ...i had similar problem with xperia z5 but with the z5 i had white spots instead grey ones LOL looks like these days buying a phone is like lottery
Got the same problem with my first 2 units, I only got an acceptable screen uniformity on the 3rd unit. You should send it back to have it replaced. Screen uniformity on gray and white backgrounds is a known issue with some amoled screen especially with the high density panels.
I live in Serbia, and here is very hard to get replacement unit. And in 20 days I have to move to Malta and I don't have time to replace phone even if they want. But, I'm not only with this issue and isn't that terebel... but I compared it with my previously S6 and he didn't have this problem...
