(Q) Very slow speeds on Virgin PAYG - General Questions and Answers

Hello there everyone I'm not sure what to do in this situation but I recently switched to Virgin as they are offering unlimited internet and texts on PAYG for £10 so I went for it, I have had a Sony Xperia U for over 4 months unlocked to any network, I have had perfect services from 3 and Tmobile internet and I live about half a mile from a Mobile mast so I pretty much get great speed and signal at home but day 1 with virgin was fine I speed tested and got results almost on par with the high results in the picture shown (NOTE: The good results are T-Mobile PAYG, my dads SIM he let me test) but as of day 2 and on to today being the 4th I have had very terrible speeds, if I download an app on 3 internet or T-Mobile it usually downloads 1mb/s+ is about average, but when I download an app using Virgin it takes forever (50kb/s lucky to get 150kb/s)
So it got me searching the internet and I read an article posted March 2013 (cant fully remember the site but I will find it again) saying that Virgin are throttling customers but cant admit to it and have a fair usage policy, but didnt tell me this in my SIM pack? I've also heard many PAYG customers are ranting the Virgin forums about this but I'm not quite sure what I read is true as it's the internet.
I've tried every possible solution: taking the battery out, taking the SIM out, formatted my phone (waste of time), switched to the other Virgin network options, re-installed internet and mms settings but still experiencing the same problem, the speed test clearly shows whats going on surely? Considering Virgin have Orange and T-Mobile services. I also spent over an hour being played elevator music by a foreign Virgin customer service lady that couldn't understand my English (I am English and a clear speaker) and kept telling me to take my battery and SIM out, literally.
Can anyone help me or maybe anyone else of knowledge or have experienced this? Would love to know thanks for reading

Hi mate I have virgins monthly sim only and no problems with data or calls or text on my Asus fonepad. My other phone is on t mobile and the speeds are similar allowing for differences in device. I'm on a monthly contract at 12 quid a month for 150 min, unlimited text and unlimited data. If it's true that payg is being throttled you could look at changing to the month by month contract. It's an extra 2 quid and only requires 30 days notice to end it. Plus you get the talk minutes.

just root it and use Set DNS from the play store.

Which UK carrier for SIM only 30 day monthly?

I just got my Nexus One unsubsidised about a week ago. Although it can apply for other phones I guess, but I'm interested what your thoughts are to the UK residents on here at xda. I don't plan on signing a new 12+ month contract because I want to save it in case some newer phone comes along.
My contract on my T-Mobile Vario 3 (kaiser) ran out over half a year ago and have since changed to a 30 day SIM only plan (Solo 20 on T-Mob). I was thinking of changing to O2 as since it's the UK provider that actually supports EDGE nationally. Well Orange I think supports it too but it's not on a national scale I dont' think. I travel fairly often on the motorway as well as on trains so I figured having EDGE available while I go through some countryside would be nice.
All 4 providers offer 600 mins for £20 a month, but Orange doesn't include internet at all, Voda only 500MB, while O2 and T-Mob offer unlimited (with FUP of course). Going lower than £20 a month none of them offer internet as part of the package, which is the main reason I am on the T-Mob £20 pm package.
My typical usage hovers around 300 mins a month, I rarely text, and I mostly use my phone for surfing (news, mail, occasional social sites). Now here is the dilema. Last week T-Mobile just overhauled their SIM only monthly plans. All their plans now allow a choice of flexible boosters, which includes unlimited internet as 1 of them. The boosters are available to even their £10 100 mins plan as well! I am more interested in their £15 plan with 300 mins and choosing the internet booster.
So the question is, do I stick with T-Mobile and change to their £15 plan, goto O2 for £20 with EDGE support, or maybe even goto Vodafone because they are using gnomes to speed their internet speed that I am not aware of?
Why havent you mentioned 3? They have the best 3g or hsdpa coverage in the country and also offer unlimited data.
Only trouble is their customer service call centre is in India and they arent very helpfull.
Thats a good point. I have totally forgotten about 3 for some reason. The £15 package from 3 looks interesting. But as I understand that 3 only uses UTMS (3g) frequencies and does not support GSM (2g) frequencies? Which is the reason they always say that 2g only phones are never supported.
I am using a Shift on O2, 30 day contract sim only which is 14.99 per month + £7.50 for unlimited data. This works well though HSDPA cells are not as frequent as I'd like them (on the North Kent Coast).
My Touch Pro 2 is on T-Mobile payg. Plenty of HSDPA cells wherever I go and as long as I topup 10/month data is unlimited for the following month. This setup works quite well for me.
3 have 2g roaming with orange. If you can't pick up a 3g signal, then it connects to oranges 2g towers. The sim cards will only work in a phone if it has 3g, but it doesn't need to use 3g, (just costs them more if you dont).
im with o2 on a 30 day rolling contract, its great.
for £20 u get 600 mins 1200 texts (600 double texts and 600 single texts) + i have added the unlimited data bolt-on as my free bolt-on.
go with o2 my friend, i have never had a problem with them
Do you have EDGE working on the O2? As it's one of the main reasons for me considering O2 as I don't like to be stuck on GPRS while around the countryside without a 3G signal.
Well I've finally nailed it down to either O2 or 3. 3 for their biggest 3G coverage or O2 for EDGE (if it's confirmed working that is).
Use O2 on pay as go Text & Web pretty much always HSDPA or 3G coverage when go out in the sticks it flips between GPRS & EDGE.
I moved to T-Mobile when purchased Touch Pro but soon went back to O2 as constant connection problems when surfing and problems with signal dropping out.
3 meant to be good coverage but @ home had to go outside house just to get signal.
Orange are good for signal but absolute bismal on data usage p/m.

EDGE works fine, im rarely in a 3g area so i have to use EDGE and GPRS a lot. both work fine.
OK, went over to my mates this afternoon to borrow his O2 sim, he's currently on the £20 30 day so I had a play with that on my Nexus one. EDGE works great on the N1. My brother has a spare 3 Pay & Go card lying around that he dug out just now. Testing on it now. If you turn off 3G it roams on the Orange network in 2G mode which connects with EDGE as well!
Now I'm even more at a loss. O2 is £20 pm with 600 mins, but its over-minutes charges are 20p a min(same for land, and all mobile networks). 3 has £15 for 300 mins, but it's over-minutes to other mobiles are 40p a min, wtf? But 3 does have unlimited skype calls which my girlfriend might like since she calls back to China a lot. My average useage hovers around 300 mins, but I do go over it a bit sometimes. Do I control my phone useage a little bit for better 3G coverage and free Skype calls? Or go with O2 for a little more flexibility in minutes?
Argh! Which to choose, which to choose...
After sleeping over it, I have finally decided to go for O2. I don't like that 3 is too expense for over-minutes call charges, and the fact it has to roam with Orange for 2G. Although free Skype calls is very attractive, my current skype habits doesn't really involve me using it outside of my home anyways.
Thanks for everyone's help and comments.

I think that's a good choice, I'm on O2, SIM Only for £20 and I get:
700 mins
1400 texts (MMS is 1:4)
My Choice of Bolt On (currently Web but has been Blackberry sometimes)
ITS included
[I got their January offer which upped the online tariff from 600 mins and 1200 texts]
I moved to O2 because I travel quite a bit and in addition to ITS you get:
Text messages to the UK taken from bundle at the rate of 1:4
MMS messages to the UK taken from bundle at the rate of 1:4
You can buy a data bundle currently 10MB/£20 and 50MB/£50 - better than £7.50 per MB that I had to pay with T-Mobile.
Best of all, if you don't like it you can give notice and move.

Only valid reason for his choice would be that he's using a different inclusive Bolt-On, like unlimited O2 to O2 calls, or maybe unlimited weekend calls? Having just checked, things like unlimited internet can be paid extras whereas things like unlimited O2 to O2 you can only take up with your inclusive Bolt-On.

Ahh, yes. Good point.

Well, just to keep this thread alive, yesteday Vodafone just updated some of their 30 day plans. One interesting plan is a £25 pm plan that comes with 1GB internet and WiFi with BT Openzone.
With 4 of the major providers updating their plans since January, it'll interesting what Orange will come up with if they do update their packages.
Ah, the wonders of 30 day contracts.

That 1GB plan looks like an iPhone plan. I asked them about their contract plans with 1GB data, etc last month and they said that you could only get them with an iPhone but since these are SIM Only it should be possible to use them with any phone (unless Vodafone try and restrict the device somehow).

You do realise that all "Free Skype Calls" means is that they allow you to use the internet freely to make skype to skype calls using their app?
You'll get the same on o2 seeing as how you're getting an internet bolt on, all you need to do is get a Skype app.
Actually no. The 3 version of the skype app actually dials out a number and doesn't connect via 3G internet nor via wifi if it's available. It reroutes the voice data using a voice connection within the 3 network. The IM portion of skype still uses the 3G data network though. According to my brother, using skype voice via 3 is a really good experience. You don't get drop-outs at all, unlike when you are in a car travelling and it switches cells and/or the connection switches between HSDPA and EDGE etc. Plus all other 4 major carriers have ToC's explicitly restricting VoIP use, although none of them actively block out VoIP apps atm.

Grandfathered Plan no 4G, New Plan 4G... WTF?

I was reading about Data lags on the sensation but never noticed it on mine (Tmobile US) but I did notice that my "4G" speeds were incredibly slow and went through all the troubleshooting "Ciphering off/on radio off/on" "airplane mode on/off" "hard reset" "new sim card" ect.
Using the SpeedTest.Net App, I was getting about 1MB download and less than 1MB Upload. Sometimes I'd get 500KB Download. I called Tmobile Customer Service and they said that my current android plan "$35 Unlimited Data and Text" (even though my phone constantly shows 4G at the top) does not include 4G and I'd have to update to the new plan which includes 4G for $30 5GB Unlimited (wtf?) Data and $15 Unlimited Text"....so I changed it....2 hours later....
I'm still getting the same speed. <1MB Download <800KB Upload...
Any help guys? Did I pretty much just get ripped off? I'm on Tmobile US, in a 4G coverage area. --- What speeds are you guys getting?

Did you go over your limit? They will throttle you if you go above the 2gb/5gb/10gb
I'm currently throttled and only getting .5mbps down. sucks but I got throttled one week before my new cycle so hopefully it will go back up next week
Nope. Got the phone last week and Its been slow like that since. I called tmobile to check and see and they said I was well below my usage.
You shouldn't have changed your plan. There might be something wrong with the phone or the area you live in.
That's what I asked them, I said what if it's the phone and not my data plan. I told her that Tech Support doesn't know what the problem is but they just think that the plan is old and that's why its not on 4G, I asked if I still get the same problem can I change my plan back to the grandfathered plan, The rep said that she had a problem like that before and she switched her plan and she got fast speeds but if it doesn't get resolved she will note the account so that "special accounts care" MIGHT switch me back to my old plan.
Still slow speeds.
The feature your taking about, $30 for the 5G data is a Required feature if your on an old plan. You can switch to the $79.99 even more plan and that gives you unlimited talk text and 2GB web each month. if you choose to remain on the old plan, the 5GB $30 plan is the data plan we can add in the store.

My thing is, I had a plan for $35 Unlimited Data and Text but they said that doesn't support 4G so I changed the plan to $30 5GB and $15 Unlimited Text plan but the speeds are STILL the same.
I was wondering what everyone else's speed is and if I just got ripped off going into a new more expensive data plan yet receiving the same speed as my old cheaper plan.
It could be in the area your in, but just to be sure, go into your tmobile store and try speedtest while your there and also check the sensation they have in the store.

good idea checking the speed on theirs. But as far as area wise, I don't think its that. I live in Garland, Texas but go out all over the place for fun. So I go to Dallas, Rockwall, Fort Worth, and all these big cities and still, slow speeds.

they lied to you.
I am getting 6mb down on the unlimited G1 plan. I did switch sim cards and used the one in the box, but did a web chat to activate so I encountered no BS.
Real sorry about that...
Seriously,
ask for a floor manager, then ask the floor manager for their supervisor, don't stop until you get you plan back.
I got unlimited loyalty minutes $69 for 2 lines and $30 for unlimited text and data. mine data tally never shows any usage, it just says unlimited, doesn't show an amount just 0% used.
I was on the phone for 3 hours though showing my backside a couple years ago.
I got lucky I think, maybe I just feel lucky and have the same deal as the rest of the customers who were around back in the voicestream days before the tmobile buyoiut;
point is though, be nice and cool but persistent and keep asking for managers and supervisors until you get your plan back.
also,
always ask them to place a note on your profile saying what ever they promise.
good luck
and I'm out...
I have a feeling it is something with your phone.
I'm on the grandfathered $25 unlimited Android Data plan (5GB of 4G) and below are speeds I've gotten with 3-4 bars of 4G.
I live about 25 minutes outside of Milwaukee, WI.
5.5 - 10 Mbps download and .6 - 2.2 Mbps Upload

Your unlimited loyalty plan is 5GB . Also, customer care can get you back on your old plan, the guy I'm quoting makes it seem like they are cutting diamonds lol.
Just call and tell the rep you speak to that your account was changed in error and you do not want your data plan changed. If you are questioning the phone, get it replaced.

called tmobile again, talked to them and troubleshooted for about an hour, turning phone on and off, refreshing network ect. and still low speeds 600kbps download and 32 kbps upload. Asked if it could just be my phone and they said no. The tech is opening up a trouble shoot ticket, saying its probably a network error and I should wait up to 72 hours for a technician to come out to the area.
guess I'm waiting.

I will add to the confirmations that the plan or SIM doesn't matter. I use the $25 MyTouch 3g plan and I have an older "2g" SIM card in my Sensation. I average 6-7 Mbs bandwidth with max 10 Mbs seen so far.

I have to humbly disagree with you there...kinda.
I know some here have the same plan and situation you have and granted it works in your case, it is not really fair to say it works for all.
I came from a nexus one and simply changed my sim card over to the sensation on June 9. It worked fine until day 3. I think you have responded to a couple of my threads asking about the "android" vs grandfathered plans on the sensation but I do not recall what was said. Beside that, I was connected fine with my grandfathered data plan which I used with my old SE Xperia x1. It was called a 'smartphone' data plan, which cost 24.99/mo with 400 data texts. I have since replaced the sim that came with the box, made sure the IMEI's matched to their systems (which I think was the reason for the data cutoff) and now have a coded "android" plan.
From day 3, I have been on here asking people's opinions on, "data is data so our grandfathered plans should work no problem"....and to talking with tmobile cs, opening a trouble ticket because it came at the same time there was a problem outtage in my area (San Antonio, TX). I was told that the trouble ticket takes about 3 days to be addressed/resolved.
BUT on day 4 (day 2 of the trouble ticket), I called tmo cs again and got to the second level tech dept and had an in depth troubleshooting call with the extremely nice tech. Turned out she has an android device too so that helped things along.....The tech checked my trouble ticket but had a feeling that she could fix it so we agreed to go for the gusto. Upon tweaking the apn's and other settings, nothing worked even though I have the 4g icon up on my notification bar, just no data transfer. Before hanging up, I asked her about my grandfathered plan and was weary of getting the "suggested" android plans out there because there was nothing comparable to my grandfathered plan. She then went to her senior manager who is also nice and explained my situation. The rep came back to me and said I was right, the old grandfathered plans DO NOT work and any IMEI's that come back with incompatible data plans get disconnected.
So she and her manager saw that I was also a long time member of tmo for over 10 years and agreed to set me right and not have me pay more for a plan that I am getting less features on. The manager went and recoded my grandfathered plan to read Android instead of smartphone. (I am guessing this unlimited wording is 5gb and then throttles me but I am on wifi most of the time so it doesn't bother me) Two seconds later I got a sms from tmo welcoming to the android data plan.
About an hour later I found that my data was flowing again. So I must stress that even though your grandfathered plans may still work, do not be surprised if tmo disco's your data connection. You'll still make and receive calls, but data will be disco'ed.
But to the OP with slow data issues, have you changed the Sim card at all? I would advise against calling tmo and asking them to check the IMEI they have on file because I think that is what flagged my phone to begin with. And as for the data plan issue, you will need to come to grips with what works for you.
This may not be common, but I had to get a new SIM card for my N1 when they rolled out their HSDPA stuff locally I couldn't get any 3G at my apartment after they did; an updated/new SIM card fixed that issue.
As far as the plan, they tried to get me on the same gimmick; said that I should upgrade to the 4G plan etc etc...I politely refused it and im getting 6mbps here in Blue Bell, PA

Yeah they were trying to be nice & all, but seriously, Tmobile blocked all Sensation IMEIs that weren't on their newer plans to force you to "upgrade". It's not the CS reps fault though, but tmobile's & their wanting everyone on a tiered data plan. Your old plan was fine, even worked for a few days (like mine did) until tmobile flipped that lovely IMEI blocking switch.

Lets take a step back. What speeds were you seeing before with your old 3G phone? It's possible that you're just an area with slow speeds. If that's the case call and demand your old data plan back.
T-Mobile has done a lot of cleaning of data usage on their end.
Their new phones and systems are made with code that specifically disregard older data plan coding.
Basically this allows them to say that your old data coding is incompatible with the newer system they're using.
Just looking for you to pay more for less. ( T-Mobile loves AT&T )

I'm using a Sensation with an older Android plan ($24.99 + 400 Texts) and i'm also using a sim card from 2005. I have "4G" speeds. What everyone needs to realize is the technology is the same across the board. There is technically no such thing as 4G on the t-mobile network. If your old "3G" phone worked in your area, then your new "fake 4G" phone will work. If it doesn't then demand to talk to someone else until they fix it. T-mobile shouldn't be tricking anyone into upgrading to a 4G plan by saying it wont work, because that's 100% untrue. All t-mobile did was increase the bandwidth that their old cell-sites would operate at. If your device can handle the faster speeds then it will benefit from the bandwidth upgrade. If the device can't handle the extra bandwidth then it will connect at the fastest speed that it is physically capable of.
I can see T-Mobile's argument if their 4G was LTE or WiMax, but it's not. If T-Mobile wants to argue about 4G speeds then demand to keep your plan at 3G speeds. Their 3G devices would theoretically reach 7.2Mbs which i've only managed to beat once with this new phone, and that speed was 7.7Mbs.
Sorry for the long post. In short, don't give in and fight with them. They'll fix it. Keep escalating the issue until you reach their CIO if you have to.

PSA: Simple Mobile 3G $40 plan NOT WORTH IT

Don't waste your time.. Unless you don't mind 119 kB/s data speeds. Just to give you an idea of how slow that is, it takes about a minute to load www.nytimes.com. Ridiculous.
I've quadruple checked the APN settings, rebooted multiple times, and even activated the service with 2 of their SIM cards (Yes, I paid for 2 months of service with 2 sim cards to try and get this crap to be worth it)..
A quick Google search also turned up many similar complaints. Too bad I didn't do my research. This is all on their "3G" data plan.
Don't waste your time like I did.
on my first try, i just hit 4mbps with only 2 bars of reception on 4g with the $60/month simple mobile plan
I second that I called t-mobile when I first got this phone just to figure out how my vibrant was beating it hands down on speedtest 10/10 times. You gotta get the $60 plan to get 4g speeds.
Sent from my Sensation using xda premium
I'm on the Simple $60 4G..Using CM7 ROM overclocked to 1.4..My data speeds are crazy fast ,[email protected] ..Dunno but in Miami/Nyc only Verizon LTE can barely beat my T-Mobile data..I had a Thunderbolt with LTE and if in the right spot it was a rocket but cost twice as much a month..
I see. So it looks like the 4G plan is worth it, but the 3G one should still not be advertised as 3G if it runs at 2G speeds.
Oh well, none of the customer service agents were able to mention any of this so I already switched back to T-Mobile.
Finally spoke to someone at Simple Mobile tech support that was able to tell me something that makes sense. At least in my case and it may be the issue for others as well.
I switched my SIM from a Verizon Motorola Droid 2 Global, that only supports EDGE / 2G connection to a Tmobile Sidekick 4G. Which is considered a Samsung Galaxy S 4G.
Well the problem is that it connects at 4G and since I am on the $40, when it does try to connect to the towers I am not authorized for 4G, so it automatically throttles me to 119..
He suggested I toggle 4G off and connect 3G and I should get full speeds... My problem now is that this phone doesn't have an option or toggle, that I know of to test.
Perhaps someone else that knows how to toggle a SK4G could give me a hint or someone could put this to the test on their, it would help the rest of us resolve this mystery.

3G and "4G" are both throttled. In fact, switching to EDGE will get you faster speeds near 150 kbps.
The $60 plan isn't worth it. It isn't really unlimited, I get one or two customers per month with disconnected Internet. Hard cap is somewhere around 3-4gb. Another thing is that their MMS is hardly ever working even on "compatible phones".
I jumped ship to the tmobile $60 monthly plan. I've yet to see any customer get disconnected. I don't use international texts so I don't miss simple and my MMS works flawlessly.
That being said, if Simple capped it slightly higher, about 200kbps I would be all over it, $20 saved are $20 earned lol

T-Mobile vs. AT&T Post Pay Plans vs. Straight Talk

T-Mobile vs. AT&T Post Pay Plans vs. Straight Talk
I live in an area where T-Mobile is not the greatest. I have not used AT&T post pay service so I'm not sure if its any better.
Is there a difference in service between post pay and straight talk plans with either company?
What's better post or straight?

I had been on straight talk for a year and went back to post paid ATT. I have gone over my data limit of 4 gigs two months in a row and am going beck to straight talk next week. Same call towers and service but ST is unlimited everything for $45

ST will get 2.5GB @ LTE speed then you get 2g/edge. Be careful with ST they have cancel people account cause of using too much data.I was thinking about going there but ended up with Tmobile where I get 5 GB @ lte speed. ST customer services sucks from what I heard online.

Thanks adibeckett! This site is solid gold, I have a bit of reading to catch up on.

Been on ST for over a year have used over 2.5 and never had throttling problems it a great way to go for 45 a month.
A lot of it this is going to be regionally specific, and particularly the signal and congestion of T-Mobile vs AT&T in your house and other common places and routes. Check coverage, ask neighbors, friends their coverage experience. That dominates everything else.
In my area (Bay Area) I had a number of key spots (I was on T-mobile PAYG) which had no signal, and AT&T had signal, so I got a StraightTalk AT&T SIM and been on that since January and overall I been happy, enough calls and data for my usage. I got a Nexus 4 so its LTE (if hacked) doesn't get coverage for me but I did bandwidth test and get 2-7Mbits download, 1Mbit upload, each time. I never had a service issue needing to call Straighttalk or ask for support, it has simply worked. I heard the ST CS can suck but I not needed any.
My advice would be to throw a little $ at ST, get both a T-Mobile and AT&T SIM and try both on alternating days as you do your regular stuff and check call and data coverage and quality and then decide which to keep going into month 2 onwards. I knew T-mobile bad for me so went only for AT&T.
$45 plus a little tax/month for unlimited calls, text and I rarely use more than 1GB/month as on Wifi mostly and when away from Wifi its email and navigation mostly for me. I have heard if going over 2GB/month you can warning or kicked off service.
One thing to watch out for with ST is that they throttle/cripple video streaming on LTE or 4G. Watching Youtube videos is pretty much useless unless you switch your phone to 3G. On LTE or 4G the video will keep stopping to buffer every 3-4 seconds and will never pre-load any of the video.
I can't deal with this so I'm dropping ST very soon.

Really? My 3G is about 6mbits so that is not fast enough? There are ways around any throttling but they add their own throttles eg encapsulate in a VPN.

Extremely slow LTE speeds T-Mobile OP6

I noticed that the data speeds on my OP6 have become increasingly slow, especially so over the last couple weeks on my OP6. Tonight, I'm posting this from a desktop because my OP6 is unusable without wifi, unable to do even google searches without extremely long wait times.
I'm getting between 5kbps and 50kbps (in small bursts). Am I being throttled?

Have you asked T-mobile? Possibly your plan mandates throttling speed after using certain amount of data, even on "unlimited" data plan. I don't use much data, may be 6-8gb per month and have not noticed reduced speed in the DC area.

I'm on the prepaid 10 gb plan. I've used no where near that limit, but recently had to get a new SIM card to get a lower rate for the exact same service. That is when I really started to notice. I'll call them.

So far, not so good. Two calls in, one online support ticket unanswered.
I cannot access my account online either. Was told I would need to use a NEW EMAIL address to access it due to the difference between the "legacy system" and the new "rebellion" plans. Unreal. I refused and let them know they need to fix it. I'm not using a different email for T mobile compared to the hundreds of other accounts and services on my main personal email.
Also, speeds are still slow. I got a whopping 9mbps download on one speed test, 10 mbps upload. But since then, speeds have been lower then 5mpbs in either direction. Tried across a variety of tests like speedtest.net, dslreports.com, and fast.com
The second support guy said they refreshed my number's signal and I turned the phone off for a little over 5 minutes while they did this as instructed. Turn it back on, no difference yet.
They will call me back in 2 hours (like they said they would do yesterday when I did the same thing as above - never got a callback.) Here's hoping. Support is based somewhere offshore like the Philippines. Hard to understand them.
If they don't call back or if I don't see improvements later today, I'll consider this strike two - and go to a store to voice my concerns. If the store cannot fix it, I'm going to AT&T once my month of prepay expires on the 28th and stop my autopayment. Maybe I'll just sell this thing and get a OP7 or OP7 pro and move back to Verizon if I have to. I'd hate to do that - but I effectively have a paperweight when not on wifi.
Try plugging your SIM into another phone, or try using a friend's SIM in yours. You will be able to tell pretty fast if it is your network carriers fault or your phone's fault.
Just to test, I swapped sim from my wife's phone who is on mint mobile (pre paid mvno of t-mobile). I got true LTE speed (around 16 mbps) which is comparable to my own t-mobile sim. IMO, it's not pre paid or post paid issue. Like suggested in above post, try another sim card. There is a remote possibility that you got an old 3G sim pre paid card. I hope you get it sorted out soon.

I'm going to a store to get a new SIM. I chatted with someone at Tmobile's T-Force (US based social media support) and they think it could also be a SIM issue, and that I'm not being deprioritized as far as they can tell.
Got a new SIM. Instantly got full LTE speeds in the store. Of course, the instant I got home, speeds dropped. It must be a combination of the old SIM, my location, or something else. I give up. I never use LTE at home or work, so it will really depend on where I am. If it keeps staying this slow when I'm out - I think I'll go to AT&T prepaid for a couple months and see how that network is around me.
I went around to a few places tonight and it was night and day compared to my home/work. Getting speeds that are very fast - nearly 100mbps down in one test. I never saw those speeds before, so the new SIM really helped. Still slow at home/work - but those locations have never given me the best speeds, so I'll rely on wifi there anyhow.
Consider this solved. If you have the same issue - get a new SIM.
