Hi.
I need your help. I'm confused about that device because I read about his problems (For example: THE Sensitive button).
And about his poor battery life which can't survive for one full day..
And that I can get only 10GB of RAM, so I can't put much apps/movies/music/photos.
And I hope that it doesn't get too hot in heavy / easy use.
But I still like this model.
I'm wondering if I should buy this model or to buy Galaxy s2 / something else.
(I don't want big screen - 4.3 is enough for me P: )
- Do you recommend me to buy it or to buy something else?
- Please tell me everything you know about this model - the good and the bad

Battery life - User dependant. Also other factors can impact this such as signal strength, type of data used, screen brightness. Looking at the battery stats thread it seems fine, better than my HOX and that's saying something.
10GB of user space available. 4GB for system & 2GB for apps. Plenty for apps. You have 10gb available to you for music, movies, photos etc. For some this is enough for others not so much. But with the ability to sync items to cloud storage for most it shouldn't be an issue.
Heat - Can't comment, but from various reading it seems cooler than other devices.
Not got the device but comparing to let's say the SGS2 this seems to have a higher resolution screen despite having a pentile screen.
Audio - Read it has one of the cleanest outputs on a mobile device, not heard it personally but it should be fine.
CPU - The S4 is one of the best dual cores around, so much there is a shortage and pretty soon they will switch to the S3. So grab the S4 version whilst you still can. It's plenty fast and outbenches some of the quads out there.
Sense - HTC's overlay, you'll love it or hate it. I love it. Has good contact management, lovely widgets, good for social networking, and such but can be a memory hog.
Camera - HTC has done a good job on the camera front. Like my HOX I like the pictures that it takes and the burst mode is a blessing. The software is also good and easy to use.
LED - This has a notification light, albeit 2 colours only compared to some other devices but at least it has one.
To sum it up it's a good mid range device. And should serve you well. Not having the device myself I'm only giving you my thoughts from reading reviews and taking some parts of my HOX.

I'd say think about longer term, it's an older device. The One S is the newer device and I'd be thinking about Jelly Bean the next android version. One S being newer would more likely be quicker to get it than the XE. It'll have more support from HTC.
Looking at the specs of both phones:
HOS is faster,
HOS reportedly has better battery life,
HOS has better screen in regards to viewing angles and sunlight compared to the first generation SLCD, again this could be subjective,
HOS is thinner and ligther,
HOS has the better camera,
HOS has native Sense 4 support,
HOS has 1gb of RAM compared to XEs 768MB,
You'll enjoy either but if you can I'd opt for the HOS if storage space isn't that important to you.

I have both the Sensation and One S and there is really no comparison, the One S is much better. I still like my Sensation but the One S is better looking and feeling, has better battery life and a nicer screen, and is much faster.
I haven't had any of the problems that people have reported here (sensitive button, poor reception etc.). Battery life has been good for me so far, and while it does warm up when you're using it heavily it's not "hot" by any means.
The lack of SD slot is not really a problem for me, but whether you can live with it depends on your usage. I've never used more than 4GB of SD card on my Sensation, so the 10GB on board is more than enough.
The only problems I would be concerned about are:
1) Chipping on the black version. I honestly think it's overblown (like most issues with all phones, only people who have problems speak up), but if you are really worried about it get the silver one. It looks even better IMO and it won't chip as the finishing process is different.
2) Getting the 1.7GHz Snapdragon S3 version instead of the 1.5GHz S4. The S3 is the previous generation chip, used in the Sensation, and is slower (despite the higher clock speed, the architecture is different) and uses more power. I don't know if there's a way to tell what you're going to get beforehand, though. Only thing I can think of is if you see "1.7GHz" anywhere on or near it, stay away.

Speaker for the HOX is fine, not as loud as say the SGS3 but it's consistent where as the SGS3 can be distorted on higher volumes. I prefer the ringtone sounds out of the HOX than SGS3.

Ok and when you use your smartphone as a cellphone (Make a call to someone), so how does the person on the other side hear you? Clean? Horrible ? Loud?

Very good! Call quality is great for me.
Loud (can adjust the volume) and clean.
You have dual mics, so any background noise is blocked out Obviously extreme noise like cars racing right beside you and loud music might not be completely blocked out and besides you won't be able to make the other person out anyway

So far, I see that people prefer HTS ONE S
That's nice, and now I really want it XDDDDD
I've just upgraded to this phone from the Desire S. I was thinking about getting the One X or the S3 too but I want a high end mobile phone not a mini tablet. This phone is amazing coming from a rooted desire S, its so fast and smooth I don't plan on rooting it.
My advise is to simply get this phone.

Are you asking me or someone else?
1) The battery life on this phone sucks. Expect to be getting no more than 4 hours of usage on average. The iphone 4/4s gets a solid 6 hours of usage. Thats 150% more battery life and I don't need to fiddle with the settings at all to achieve this.
2) The hardware has major design flaws. First of all the black one has that chipping problem with the paint. Well I have used my phone for less than 2 months and it looks butchered as hell. People complain about the iphone 4/4s, well I dropped a gazillion times and it still looked almost brand new when I sold it. I dropped the 1S one time! and the paint already came off. The front camera is recessed and gathers dust like crazy. It's impossible to clean it because its recessed and the dust has no where to go. Crap and dust also builds up near the top plastic cap. The speakers are also located exactly on the back of the phone. So if you put your phone on your table, you can't hear it ringing. Not only that the volume is so low. I missed tons of calls.
3) The community for this phone sucks. There is barely any activity on the fora and development for custom roms is stagnating. I mean sense is crap and there is only like 1 guy working on cm9? And correct me if I am wrong but the last version of AOKP is like from 3 weeks ago with tons of bugs. Now look at the Galaxy Nexus or the 1X fora. Or look at the SGS3 fora and that phone has not even been completely released yet. Its crazy. And this is worrying cause even sense has tons of bugs. There is for example this 3g/H switching that still hasn't been fixed as far as I know.
4) Then there is this low resolution pentile screen. Well its definitely ok and you shouldn't worry about it. But you WILL notice a huge difference if you put it next to the nexus, 1X or the iphone 4/4s and you will run in to all kinds of trouble with apps. For example while my own 720p videos looks good on this phone, youtube videos will look crap no matter how high you put the settings. There are tons of these annoying things. The screen is the reason why its not quite yet a flagship device while it could have been.
That being said I think its the best android phone on the market. Its the fastest android phone on the market. It doesn't have a cheap flimsy plastic body and it has a thin and light design. Aluminum feels really good on the hand especially when its cold. Its like 100 dollars/euro cheaper than the 1X and SGS3. I'd wait for the iphone 5 though. And if that turns out to be nothing or if the wait is too long then go ahead and purchase the 1S cause thats what I recommend out of the top3 android phones.

Once again, all of that is in YOUR opinion and from your usage only as well, plenty of people including me have had the exact opposite to you. Just because you experience problems doesn't mean that every one else will....
1. Is that on screen time your talking about? If so that is very good! (depending on usage and screen brightness) No other android phone gets anywhere near that unless the screens are set to like 0% and airplane mode enabled for a bit. Just look at my review and you will see the usage that I am getting from a single charge, now go and find me an android phone on stock ROM with a stock battery that can beat that (apart from the motorola razzr for obvious reasons). The iphone 4/4s also seem to have a problem with battery life for quite a few people, heck apple have even released a number of updates iirc to try and fix the battery drain
Plus don't forget that the iphone 4/4s doesn't have the same amount to do as an android phone.
2. The MAO issue is not a "hardware" problem, but a design fault.... Also I have had my phone since release day and still have no signs of chipping anywhere apart from inside the USB port plus HTC have addressed this now as they have got a design, which has a bevelled USB and less sharper edges. Well you were extremely lucky with your 4s then as due to the build of it and being mostly glass, the screen is almost always guaranteed to shatter when dropped......

It all depends on where abouts the ground impacts the mobile, you could be lucky or not so lucky with any device. If you want to be safe than sorry then a case is a necessary item for all mobiles, even the GS 2. Some devices are just more durable than others.
I have had no problems with dust getting under my screen, had my mobile since April, yes dust does gather in the front camera part, however, a quick blow and wipe with a pencil in a cloth sorts that problem out.
Emmmm what? The volume is amplified a wee bit when it is placed on the desk due to that reason, you can raise the volume as well you know or use a louder ring tone, you must be pretty deaf if you can't hear your mobile ringing......
3. The community isn't great, but it is starting to pick up now especially since the kernel source was posted, there are a few good ROMs from what I have read such as trickdroid and leedroid. Sense is crap in your opinion, many people including me love it and I for one won't be changing to a stock ICS ROM as I don't want to loose the features of sense, which IMO are better than the alternatives. The gallery, dialer, calendar, clock app are superb and not to mention the sense camera along with all the features, which you won't find on any other mobile or stock ICS ROM. Of course the galaxy nexus is going to have a damn good developing community, it's only the official/stock android phone that all the developers use to develop apps for and was the first phone to have a 720P display. The developing community here will never be as good as the the 1X or GS 3 community as they are the "flagship" devices and the phones that everyone will go for just for because of that "term"
Also the tegra chipset is apparently proving to be hard to work with for the developers with the 1X due to nvidia lack of support.
What are these bugs you speak off? I haven't had any problems with mine, super stable, super quick and smooth, multi-tasking is fine as I have disabled a lot of sense stuff and apps that I don't need and am using apex etc. instead.
If you look at my other post addressing issues you will see that I don't have the 3G/H bug, along with many other people.
The iphone is well known to have signal issues as well, not remember the 4 or 4s release where people were complaining about terrible signal, and apple said essentially "you're holding the phone the wrong way" and had to give out free bumper cases to solve the issue as it was a problem with the new antenna that they were using......
4. There is no problem with the screen, sure it ain't 720P and doesn't use RGB matrix, but it is perfectly good and better than most other mobiles screens apart from the ones you mentioned along with a couple of SE mobiles. The screen is nice and sharp still, the only areas I notice the pentile matrix is with white text on black backgrounds and some icons and even still I have to put my eyes right up to the screen. Plus the reason HTC went with with the pentile version is because the battery life is better with it than the RGB version (same reason Samsung went with pentile on the GS 3 instead of RGB). What kind of trouble have you run into with all these apps that you speak of because of the screen? What on earth are you talking about again??? Youtube videos will look crap no matter what settings you put them on??? The youtube videos look great.

Just buy it. It's a fine phone. These have been snapped up by many in the UK past few days due to a cheap contract deal so many more HOS users in the pipeline.

So here goes, I can now get a Razr HD for free through Fido canada. Not a bad deal considering from what I can tell, this phone will be a perfect replacement for my Nexus S running 4.1.2
From the reviews I read online, people are really enjoying this phone and it seems to have a fairly pure android experience that, coming from a nexus device, I want. The main selling point for me is LTE and SDHC. These two things alone are what I am switching phones for mostly.
1. So I ask you this, would you reccomend this phone to someone else?
2. How is rom support? is it easy to unlock and load aftermarket roms on this like CM etc and does it take to it well?
3. How is the device quality physically? It looks terrific online.
4. Anything else you might add?

1. Yes. I am quite happy with my Rogers Razr HD.
2. Rom support so far is ... in progress. There's not a huge user base for this device yet and it's only been available since October. Rogers/Fido won't see Jellybean stock upgrade until "1st Quarter" which might be as late as March, provided they don't change the scheduling again. Having said that, France and Australia already have JB, so maybe we'll see it sooner than that. It is easy to unlock and load aftermarket roms, BUT you have to unlock it through Motorola and you void your warranty to do so. Just so you know.
3. Physical build is really good, imo. Battery life is excellent, screen is bright, volume is loud. Only weakness is the camera, which is mediocre.
4. There's no decent desk dock available for it yet. There's a car dock, and a couple crappy options for a desk dock but we might have to wait for a third party to make one. Also, hdmi out options are lacking ... As there are no options. IMO, it should allow screen off with hdmi on, or different resolutions output, but only has overscan and hdmi enable... And once you upgrade to JB, you lose overscan.

This is the way I look at it:
If you want custom ROMs because you actually enjoy playing around with new ROMs every two weeks (and intend to do so for the life of the device), then don't buy a Droid Razr HD now. Wait for the phone to get better support, or buy a Google Nexus branded device. You are looking for a tinker-toy more than you are looking for a reliable daily-use smartphone.
If you need a reliable daily-use smartphone, then the current state of ROM support is irrelevant. Sure, you are going to play around with custom ROMs to start. But eventually, you will settle on a ROM that you like, and then stick with that ROM for several months before changing. If that describes you, then you'll be fine getting a Droid RAZR HD. Remember, it's easy to improve on software (ROMs) after you buy a device. But once you buy hardware, you're stuck with it.

Basically changing the output resolution to eliminate black bars around the borders. The native resolution of the Razr HD is 1280x720, but it'll fill a webtop screen resolution of 1366x768 using hdmi overscan.
1 - I picked this up on Rogers and I'm pretty happy with it. Having a slightly less modified version of android is something I prefer since I'd rather do the tweaking instead of rely on manufacturers to decide what I need. Yeah, I'd recommend it but it depends how flashy people expect a phone to be out of the box.
2 - I bought it without expecting to root and fiddle with it for a year or two. That's because I don't think development for it will catch up until then since it's not nearly as popular as something like the S3, but also because it simply works right now. I have one phone and I need it to work every day so flashing roms frequently isn't something I have time for.
3 - It's just as nice as it looks online. It reminds me of an iPhone 4 / 4s with a more durable feel to it. I dropped my last phone onto steel from 20ft and it cracked the screen under the gorilla glass. This gives me a lot more confidence that the thicker first gen glass (as opposed to the thinner gorilla glass 2) will hold up to the occasional beating it takes at work.
4 - Motorola remembered to make this phone a phone. It seems a lot of companies forget that with smartphones. It's really nice to have a phone with a loud speaker, earpiece and fantastic reception. The whole time I had a Samsung Galaxy S I was battling with the quiet earpiece and yet with this I've answered calls at work with 32dB ear plugs in without issues.
I live in a city with some major dead spots and quite often my friends will realize they haven't had reception for hours and have missed calls while I maintain a couple bars. After making a switch to the Razr HD I'm always the last to lose reception :good:

I got this phone a few days ago from future shop on the 56$ promo plan. I've never had an android phone before, but so far i like the phone a lot. The kevlar on the back in the chevron pattern looks really nice and makes it stand out. It has a little lip that goes around the edge of the screen which i personally think is greatest idea ever. I dropped the phone from about 3 feet onto the sidewalk and it landed on the front facing corner of the phone. When i flipped it over the phone was undamaged. The camera isn't bad but isn't anything special either. If you decide to get the phone, get it from future shop. They offer a protection plan for 12$ a month, but you can convince them to throw some goodies in. I got a $150 in gift card and a 32gb micro sd card. The plan covers a replacement battery, but since the phone's battery can't be replaced, they will replace the phone with another phone for an equivalent value ($680 including tax).
I just picked this phone from Fido.
1: Physically speaking, this phone really looks nice ,but not ergonomic, maybe suitable for those guys with big hands.
2:Android experience is not so good, when my phone is on, there is always 1**M available RAM, not very smooth. I'am tired of rooting cell phones.I think if RAZR HD got updated to 4.2 would be very smooth.

I noticed epinter is working on this phone, he was awesome for the Atrix 4G and still is....which means great roms support for us here.
I've already got Jellybean running even though Fido/Rogers won't be releasing the update until late January. There is a couple CM10 betas out but the best working one does not have bluetooth music working yet....so I'm holding off until then.

It has a wonderful build quality to it, mush superior to the Droid Razr that my room-mate has. I like that they did away with the stupid camera hump.

This was a no-brainer to me, even if I cancelled my contract with Fido in a few months I would have paid less for the phone through them than on ebay or elsewhere.
Ok so, as the title implies I'm thinking of getting a Sensation on the cheapside (160€) almost brand new. However I do have a few questions:
1. Would you say the phone is worth the price?
2. Do you think it is a good phone? What's your overall experience?
3. I mostly use my phone for multitasking and gaming sometimes, so does it fit the bill? The 512RAM thing scares me, my Galaxy W said it had 512MB but it had like, 378MB. I hated how it ran out of memory.
4. How is custom rom development for the phone?

1. I think a new sensation is not worth it. You can get a used for ~120-150 USD.
2. Great experience. 2 major setbacks: bad battery life and low ram(in my opinion as I am a heavy multitasker)
Battery life can be fixed with a replacement anker battery, and ram can be fixed with turbo swap.
Disadvantages are: medium resolution screen/4.3 inch screen(kind of low for video watchers), speakers aren't that great.
3. Ram is OK. It's 768 megabytes, but that can be fixed with turbo swap space module.
4. Custom ROM development is freakin awesome. We just got the 3.4 kernel with ion allocation, USB otg, and other cool stuff. We have aosp Roms(cm9/cm10/cm10.1), sense Roms(3.6/4/4.1/4+no sense 5

I like my sensation, but I liked my galaxy sii more, 160€ seems like too much, I got mine on eBay for $140 in like February it should be cheaper now, if you go on eBay you should be able to get a one s for 160€

I'm not going for a new one, this is as cheap as I can find second hand in my country (Portugal) and that includes ebay. It is quite the upgrade from my current (for two more days) Galaxy W and better than most alternatives I could find.
Getting a battery shouldn't be that hard, what's this anker thing though? And TurboSwap? I'll try and read up the link to see if I can learn more
Glad to hear Custom ROM development is well That's a very big factor in my phone buying decisions, actually. I don't like Sense though, so I think I'll tinker around and see what I prefer!

I wish I could. The cheapest I can find a One S is around 250€ both locally and on eBay and I can't afford that atm. I will admit the SII is better hardware-wise, the look of it is just too unappealing and blocky, haha

1) I don't know how to compare it to what's on offer today so I won't answer that
2) I'll just say I enjoyed (and still do) every moment with this phone. I get good enough battery life (and I say that as a traveler who tends to spend a lot of time away from the charger). Performance is nice (everything is smooth and I hadn't found an app that won't run because of power), and build quality is great (except for dust on screen issue which my device suffers from, it survived some nasty falls, which to compare to my dad's GS4 (which dropped from 0.5m on a floor and died), the device is just awesomly built.
3) On stock roms I got issues with that, but once you are rooted and use custom ROMs there are many tweaks available to improve your performance. I must say that CM runs silky smooth with lots of apps running in the background, while sense roms started struggling after some time (but still were good). about the lower amount of RAM than advertised, it's because the GPU reserves RAM as dedicated memory for it to work (like desktop GPUs with their own RAM).
4) Just awesome, there are many ROMs available,just like AndroidSupporter318 said, now we even have ION.
I would like to just add something to think about: Just remember we are talking about a 2 year old device, so know what you buy (no more official support from HTC, unless the end of the world comes and they decide to update it, and nothing can be guarranteed on the long run). but as it goes today, custom ROM development will continue for a while, and there are many users, so I believe as things are now it's still fine.
Edit: Forgot about this, but when compared to the GS2, at least in my opinion performance seems better, and I actually like the screen of the sensation more. These things are subjective, but that's my opinion on it.

I'm looking up this ION thing you guys mentioned, I had never heard of it. Also, I am aware I'm buying a non-supported phone by HTC, then again HTC usually drops their phones at the drop of a hat so that's not to be surprised. That's why what I look for more in a phone is community-development and build quality + hardware. Hope that makes sense!

ION is JB's new memory mangement, and it replaces ICS's PMEM.
Thanks to @SebastianFM, we can now have Sense 4+ JB roms on SEnsation XE.
I have HTC Sensation S710e and I think it is an exellent choice to buy a mobile phone like this as long as you can give it s-off with Juopunutbear S-OFF guide without to unlock bootloader.Secontly they are a big varity of custom roms and recoveries you can try on your device.
The speaker sucks.
It gets dust trapped under the screen.
Battery life is pretty bad (mine came with an Anker battery, and battery life is still pretty unimpressive).
Other than that, I've been pretty happy with mine.

1) like said before, 160€ may be overprized but if that's the common price in your region, then I guess you're still paying a relative good price. Especially since newer phones are heavily overprized these days.
2) I think it's a good phone. I like to compare my rooted sensation to brand new stock powerhouses like GS4. Even though they're much faster, the self-defined MHZ/euro ratio is much better in my case. I like the fact I can keep up well with brand new devices with my more then 2 yo device. I even outperform some phones in battery life.
the build quality is good, it's the way a decent phone should be build. Decent camera with LED and no plastic.
3) Especially after rooting, I never encountered a situation where I ran out of memory or ended up with bad perfomance. I must say I'm not an extensive multitasker, but I'll have to add that I never felt the need for a taskkiller app or such. And I keep apps running on a regular basis. I think a dual core is more then capable for multitasking, and the phone packs a decent amount of RAM.
4) amazing custom ROM support. There are plenty of flavours for both sense and no-sense ROMs. I myself am running CM10 for quite a while now and I like my former sense phone being a pure google 4.2.2. Many ROMs with a lot of tweaks, UI tuning and themes. I can boost my stock 1.2 GHz to a outstanding 1836 MHz
Since new phones are so expensive, the custom ROM support for this phone keept me hanging in on to it for a additional year. I took a SIM-only subscription because I feel no need for a replacement.
overall, you get more phone for buck wih a sensation compared to new devices.

Indeed a disadvantage, the sensation is a dust collector. Many models suffer from the little bit of dust under the screen and the speaker needs to be cleaned on a regular basis.
I don't agree with your opinion on the battery. I think you're not being relative in this case. When are you impressed? Don't expect it to last 3 days away from a charger. But 1,5 to 2 days with average use is excellent perfomance. I can reach 2 days when I only use it to check facebook, news, wheater, whatsapp and a occasional call. Don't forget that new devices wouldn't last a day in these conditions because of their huge screens and power-eating quad/octa cores.

I would say get it for the development and there are things like turbo swap to help on the memory situation.
I bought mine second hand after moving from desire HD.
I find the dev stuff to be great (currently on viper JB ROM). With an Anker battery I get 2 days out of it (I'm a light user with everything turned on) really those batterys are amazing. 2 of my friends (who are both on stock) use the battery and both are utterly amazed at the difference they make.
I do find the RAM a little on the small side but I dont notice that all that often.
Ok back then when I bought this, there weren't many phones available, but now phones companies went crazy, releasing new phones almost every 2 months, especially HTC. But I remember when I ownd all phones with my badass dual core phone, while most people only had a single core chip built in.
Apart from that, the phone itself looks kinda cool with the red lights & speakers.
But with the phones currently available, I'd suggest wait a few more months, maybe save some more money and then go to the One series.
I know a lot of people just think, a new phone came out -> current phones = all crap, but you just have to think back when this was released, it kicked ass

When buying a new phone, you should not think what it was, but what it is. Today you can't say it's a strong device (even if when released it was one of the strongest available), because there are many devices which overpower it by a significant margin.
Anyway, in my opinion, it still kicks ass
I've kept my eye on the G pro 2 for a while (was about to get the original O G pro, but waited for this to come out). So I'm well aware of the specs, features, reviews, etc. But what I want to know is a real world user's opinion of the device.
Is the phone pretty decent? Any frustrations or quirks to know before trying to get one?
Key questions:
*How is the Mic/voice quality? (sending and receiving during a voice call)
*How is the battery life(I know it depends on usage and habits of the user, but just overall, how would you rate it personally, compared to other current/comparable Android phones)?
*Is it relatively stable and responsive?
*What bothers you about this phone?
*Would you buy it again if you were in the market for a new phone right now?(tells me that you like the phone and are overall happy with it)
I plan on getting a F350(a bit confused with the S/L/etc. acronym endings, can any one shed light?) I want to use it on at&t's network. On paper, and seeing professional reviews, the G pro 2 seems like my phone (1080p 5.9" screen, expandable memory via microsdhc, user replaceable battery, decent camera, etc.) But I want to know, if in practice, the phone is stable/frustration free(relatively speaking), decent real world battery life (if it's competent/comparable at least.. ), hoping that this is not one of those, "you have to root it and install a custom rom in order for this phone to be bearable"- type thing.
My other considerable is the Sony Xperia Z2 (prices are right, even though the screen is smaller and the battery isn't "replaceable"). I didn't want the Samsung Galaxy series due to the smaller screens and bloatware they put on there(note's a great series, but simlar.. bloatware, plus really expensive).

these are my questions too..
I came from a Samsung S3 (running CM).
first impressions were: Nice clean looks and lines, it's big (but it's not unwieldy). my wife has a Note 3 and it's about the same. the curve along the back sides makes it more comfortable to hold. Obviously, it's a heavier phone due to size, so your hand might get tired if you're one to use your phone lying down or something.
Screen is fantastic. I have no problems with colour issues with the screen and it's bright enough for me, even outdoors.
Battery life is good. standby can last more than a day. in usage, i was a bit busy yesterday and didn't use it too much, but from 0700 to 2300, i had 63% before i plugged it in. on a more typical day, I'd probably have around 40%. mainly a mixture of whatsapp, a few blogs, games and some TV show watching at lunch.
Camera is decent and acceptable auto focus speed. not a lot of bloatware.
I'm running 10e firmware due to bugs in 10f and waiting for lollipop. 10e is stable. not had problems with it.
problems: it's not widely available and the user base is small. so don't expect any fancy mods/firmwares or anything like that. as such, there's not a lot of accessories for it either outside of LG's own stuff.
My friend has the Z2 (not looked, but isn't the Z3 pricing nearly the same now?), and his camera is better and the battery life is longer due to Sony's Stamina software. display is about the same. If you want a big, stock phone, the LG is great. if you want to play around and like to customise your phone, then i'd go with the Sony.

I'm on the fence between the two phones, I like the bigger screen on the G pro 2, I haven't held one yet in person, but I don't think I"ll be bothered by it at all. Only thing that really entices me for the Z2 are the current prices for it right now.. for relatively similar specs, smaller screen, but better camera compensates. Honestly, I want the device to work well out of the box.. this is xda and I do play with custom firmwares and roms, but that's more of a result than a mission for me these days.. as in, if the unit runs better/faster/more stable compared to stock(or.. if stock is so horrendous that it must be rooted and flashed to be "decent").

Ive been using this phone pretty much since it came out (D838 rooted stock) and the stock Performance is fantastic if im honest it really doesn't need a custom rom unless you want to "mod" alot of things and even then as long as your careful theres still alot you can do with just root, i love this phone so much and its modified enough for my liking without a rom, its fine right out of the box and if you can live without a custom rom (which is really doesnt need that much) i think you'll be as happy as i am with this phone on stock with or without root.
But yes if you do like to flash and mess about alot go with the z2/note3 as there is more options there but this is still a brillant phone.

Thanks a lot for the assurance. I'm still bouncing around phone options, I guess it just comes down to price (best bang for buck, with expandable memory at least). I'm still considering the G pro 2, but I saw how the GS note 3 has come down a lot in price.

I've had both and granted you can mess around with roms and stuff but for pure joy in use i much prefer the g pro 2 its a really really good phone and for the low price you really cant beat it in my opinion unless this phone gets a good recovery and cm11 ill never bother with costom roms ect. For me its perfect on stock the peformence is amazing, to date (about 6 months of owning this phone) the battery still amazes and im yet to see any lag ever!! The ui is amazing, for a phone out of the box you cant beat it if you like music it outputs brillantly im just in love so maybe im a little one sided but i hope whatever you do you will be happy! Let me know!

I only can agree with that!
I did get mine last week and i am very happy with it! Came from Galaxy Note 2 wich i liked very much but i dont trust Super Amoled Display technology since noone grants you that it will operate more than 3 years with heavy use. I chose this device because it has similar dimensions as the Note 2, stronger hardware, bigger 1080p reliable IPS LCD screen and fabulous 3200 mAh battery.
It's a must have for phablet lovers that want to have a good performing phone with large screen.
After just a few days of use this is my opinion. On software side is everything ok, just the usual Kit Kat problem that bugs lots of users out here, tha lack of having permissions for apps to write to sd card. That was the only thing that bothered me, but thats on Google side. This phone is truly amazing!
Hope that helps the peple to choose the best device for their specific needs. I found mine definitely.

I really like the phone and want to get it, but for me the G pro 2 shipped from Asia to the US (I need the F350 model for LTE compatibility), it's about $600, I'm going to wait out just a little longer, it's a bit out of my budget (was hoping to score a phone for less than $450.. Sony Z2 and ZU did fit that for me, but not anymore either, haha).
I'm glad to hear that it's a great phone though(G pro 2), hopefully the prices will come down a bit for the F350 model and I can obtain one soon. Thanks again to all who have contributed!

The things that bother me about this phone are the poor wifi signal, I can be within a meter of my router and it still fluctuates between 3 and 4 bars. Any less than 4 bars wifi signal seems to have a noticeable impact on browsing performance. I also find the mobile data hotspot a pain, every so often the connection would hang and you would have to turn data off and back on again to get it to work. It seemed to do that every hour or so. Also if the phone gets even minutely warm, the brightness level will restrict itself to between 80% and 90%. I have had 3 LG G Pro 2 and they have all been the same. I also notice some flickering at times, especially when there is a white background on a webpage. I am almost fed up of mine and looking at selling it soon. It does have the potential to be a good phone, and I think all the faults I mentioned could be fixed with a decent firmware update.
I agree with you on wifi reception, its been the worst amongst all the phones i have owned

IMO its a miserable way to buy a phone, the Ultra is a beautiful phone with a lovely big clear screen.. its shipped with Android N in the box.. which means HTC will support it throughout Android N and into O, so your looking atleast 1 year, maybe even 18 months... You should buy a phone based on how the experience is for YOU, if you pick it up in a shop.. and you love it.. Buy it because of what the phone means to you.. not for its SoC.
If you flash custom roms and "cook" kernels... yes ok, the SoC and ram is important but for 90% of the buying public.. they like the asthetics, the cosmetics of a device and if it runs their favorite apps, music and their media life.. then theyll buy it.
The 821 SoC has been shown to be a very efficient and battery friendly chip... Samsung have laid claim to the 835 for the S8, which means they will set the bar for huge prices because its the latest and greatest SoC, so other Devs will charge huge prices for an 835 SoC phone because itsa the latest and most costly chip to date... and, well.... Samsung did it and sold thousands..
Give me an Xperia XA Ultra any day.. because it runs smooth, fast and has a great loudspeaker.. with a great camera and SONYs UI is almost stock yet it only has a Helio P10 Mediatech chip and 3GB ... IMO, people who choose that device purely based on SoC and ram are chasing rainbows and will never ever be happy with anything they buy and are setting them selves up for a life of misery that their friends phone may be faster than theirs after the latest OTA or Custom rom .... with benchmark and constant speed testing all the time.... and who wants that.. Not me.

Yeah me too.. Ive had my U Ultra for about 4 days now.. and I love it.. just so smooth.. and it looks gorgeous... to be honest, I went into the store to get either a 3T or a Pixel XL with my Upgrade, but I saw the ultra (which was cheaper per month and upfront cost than the XL) tried the new Sense and Android N... . Camera is stunning and after 15 mins of testing.. I was sold.. took my Upgrade there and then, . Im happy it has 64gb of Storage & an SD., although I wouldve bought it if it had 32GB.
My only SMALL gripes are: theres no USB-C > 3.5mm jack converter in the box and also I think the bass (bottom) and tweeter (ear piece), while VERY VERY Loud and sound fantastic.. For me, dont sound as rounded and full and lack just a LITTLE bit of Mid-Range and less bass as the HTC 10 or even M8 speakers do., but thats just me
I am curious though, Why did you swap your XL and 3T for the Ultra?

My OnePlus 3T is going to my uncle tomorrow, or Swappa Tuesday. I really appreciate what OnePlus does and their relationship with customers but in daily use, for me, the 3T reveals itself to not be a flagship. My number one gripe is poor touch response.
I always maintained that if HTC made and sold a phablet in the US again, I'd buy it. The design and aesthetics are just beautiful. I've always enjoyed HTC's software and it remains stellar.

I get bored honestly the 3T was nice but I didn't get that wownfactor and the camera was doodoo to me. Same thing with the pixel just was a meh phone. I also think I have come to figure out that I need/want a bigger device I think 5.7 is a great size maybe even 6.
Loving the ultra but getting used to size even coming from Pixel XL which was big as well. I feel the included case makes it more clumsy to handle and without the case is great to handle. But man I'm scared that I'm going to drop this off I use without a case.
My last HTC was the M7. After, was on a LG G3 and I wanted to buy the LG G6 but when I saw the U Ultra, I jump on it. Have it since a week now. Love it. The screen is beautiful, the camera give me some good shot.
I don't regret my choice buying an HTC u ultra despite of an LG g6.
Just don't buy it.
Wait for better and cheaper phones.
Anybody coming from a samsung device? Curious how the display is conpared to amoled screens? Does the ultra u seem washed out compared to the super amoled screens

Looks like its a "NO".
There is a SD835 phone coming in just a month.
I'm using this phone since 1 month and I'm very satisfy with. Its design, Its body, clear screen, many HTC personal touch and customizations. Very small details that will always make me come back to HTC. After using a One Max for years now and still rocking, I was patiently waiting for HTC to come with another phablet. Meanwhile I used many phone but I always come back to my One Max.
Yes, The Ultra is expensive, but I don't mind as my One Max is still rocking with Android Nougat and still impress me after so many years.
I was a bit afraid about the battery life due to 3000mah and such a large screen but the battery optimization app clear all my doubts, after tweaking it as per my needs, It radically change the battery life. No overheating or whatever.
My cons about Ultra are: no 3.5 jack adapter in the box. The stock earphone is of good quality, the sound clear and sounds very good but not so loud for me. The secondary screen lacks. They should have implement more options and customization. I'm waiting for a good custom ROM to fix some of these.
In general, I love this phone and I don't think anyone could change my mind about it. This phone makes me gain more trust in HTC and If another phablet will be out from them, I'm sure I will go for it even if its expensive.

Have to add another "Well said!" post to this thread. I've been using the U Ultra for 5 days now and I'm very happy with this phone. The 821 is indeed a very good at power management, as I've been able to get 36+ hours between charges with 3+ hours screen on time, mostly spent playing games and browsing the web.

I love my U Ultra .. but what Im finiding annoying, is that everyone, including reviewers, love bashing HTC at the moment for their "wasted space"... but I ask... did anyone bash Google for the ugly wall brick sized chins on their £800 ($950) Pixel XL .. which has No stereo speakers, Or Apple.. for their wasted chin space on iPhone 6S Plus / 7 Plus.. No, they didnt.. however, I was annoyed that HTC left out the 3.5 mm Adaptor then forced me to pay £10 for one...
And they critisise HTC for "stealing" LG V10/20 2nd'ary screen... but lets take a look here...
HTC were first with Outboard antenna lines for better signal reception..
HTC were first with "real" Stereo speakers
HTC were the first to use 1.55 micron pixels on their camera "Ultra Pixel".. allowing for lower light photography at lower resolutions, opening the way for better mobile photography..
HTC were one of, if not the first dev to make a full all round metal body phone
HTC (and SONY) were one of the only devs to push the boundries with development of the LCD display instead of always falling back to AMOLED
So yeah, sort that one out Apple / Hauwei / Motorola.. and everyone else..
Thing is, HTC make some of the best and most beautiful phones around.. yes theyve made mistakes.. but I dont think they deserve the bashing theyre getting..
Oh and finally.. i was chatting to one of the staff in Carphone Warehouse (UK) and she said theyve sold 100s of U Ultras and U Plays, so good to hear from a support and OTA
