Just bought a Sensation - advice and tips?

I've had the G2 for a year now, I'm not due for an upgrade with Tmo until this time next year but I've been thinking about getting a better, faster phone for a little while now. Since I'm not purchasing through tmo I decided to surf ebay for a good deal and I narrowed my choice down to the sensation as the best quality for the money and just scored one for $275. Seemed like a good deal since most of them tend to go for over $300, was it?
It hasn't been delivered yet, but I've got a few questions for you all:
1. I have 30 days to return it. What issues should I look for?
2. Seems many have issues with the lack of battery, what is a realistic expectation for hours of use?
3. I've been using a version of CM on my G2 (mexdroid, best G2 rom I've found yet) and was wondering if there are any specific "favorite" cm7 based rom's here? I've tried a couple different Sense roms and never really liked any of them.
Any other tips or pieces of vital information y'all can give me would be great. This was a tough choice for me as there seem to be a lot of people who have issues with the sensation, but I'm hoping they are the loud minority. Thanks all for the help ahead of time, hope to become a regular on here as I don't plan on getting another phone for at least another year.

Its used but the eBay vendor offers a 30 day return policy. I definitely plan on rooting it but like I said I'd like to try out a cyanogen based from. I will definitely give yours a try though thank you for the link.

I was just reading about the newest update that started yesterday? It shouldn't make a difference that I bought this phone used and not through Tmobile, should it?

If you're into Cyanogenmod, you may want to look elsewhere. I love CM, I do, but the official CM rom is still in it's alpha stages, and while it runs "good", it doesn't feel like the 1.2Ghz dual core it's suppose to be. There's one or two CM-based roms. One is called HyperSensation, and it's really lightweight and fast, but again, it's based off an alpha.
There's still great development going on, and we're guaranteed ICS from either HTC or the devs (crossing fingers for CM9 nightlies), but if you're a CM faithful, this might not be your phone.
Edit: Also, you'll need either an Anker or Chichitec 1900 mAh battery, you'll have a hard time without it.

Got my Sensation XE 2 weeks ago and compared to my good old Hero I had before, I really like it. You'll definitely benefit from rooting it. Installing a custom ROM is worth it, but personally I would stick to Sense 3.0, runs better imo.

I have to agree with this poster and add these few things.
* (My experience) screen protectors don't fit snugly due to cured glass.
* A bit laggy
* My volume rocker fell off after 3monts and had to get the whole back replaced.
* Battery sucks, but if you (fork over more loot to) buy a higher capacity one it works fine.
My advice is to either get the Amaze or just wait until march/april when they will be rolling out an Ice Cream Sandwich phone for HTC. And to be fair, the phone is a "nice" phone, but it is not the best phone in its class spec wise.

hased the sensation. Honestly looking at the specs and in store the amaze didn't seem all that different. The only real improvement I saw is the camera button and that's not a very big deal to me. As for ics I thought sensation is on the list of phones getting it?

Mine has been good for me and the price at 275 is decent -if your into cm7 well as stated before its still alpha and it looks like they are more focus on CM9 at this time to bad your not a big fan of sense as there are many good builds running sense with great battery life-the phone is barely 6 months old here so there is much to come and yes it is on the list to get an OTA of the ICS
DUST under the screen and the power button issue are all I have faced I would check it before I do anything with a black background under sunlight to see if the are any specs in it
Mexdroid kicks ass for sure I have a friend running that on his nothing like that over here sad to say

For the money, that seems like a great deal. And you should get the OTA update as long as it's a valid ROM. I have flashed through about 6 different ROM's for the Sensation and settled on the InsertCoins one. Quick and easy, but still has Sense goodies I tend to like. Rooting it is EZ, and hardware should keep it viable for a while. You should enjoy this device!

there are very big differences, spec wise with the phones. the top three are:
1. the Amaze has 16 gig memory on board whereas the Sensation only comes with 8 gig card. If you listen to music and watch movies like me that is huge.
2. the Amaze has a full gig of RAM whereas the Sensation only has 768. The standard for most high end smartphones is 1 gig and it does make a difference speed wise.
3. Last, but definitely not least, since most complaints about phones have to do with battery life, the Amaze has almost 200 more mA than the Sensation.
You can scratch my original reasons, those were just the tip of the iceberg, these are the reasons why I would steer people away from the phone.
HOWEVER, you already got it so its water under the bridge, enjoy my friend. Just wanted to clarify.
With regards to ICS, yes, from my understanding the Sensation will get it in four to five months. However, by that time, HTC and other companies will already have phones that will be made with it. I have an upgrade due to me in march so I will hold out and wait to see what the offerings are come June. I am sure that the ICS upgrade will work fine on the sensation, but if the are getting rid of buttons and overhauling the whole thing then I want the full experience.

Vibrant to Sensation
Prior to my Sensation I had a Samsung Vibrant rooted with CM7. Once I arrived on the Sensation forum it was evident the Sense Roms were by far the most used.
I have been using Android Revolution HD 4.1.8 Sense 3.5 (the latest) and I have never looked back. I recommend that you at least try one of these great Roms from a fantastic developer.

This is a decent one to start with... Some problems with gps (it takes a while to lock) and it is actually no longer supported by the developer... However, i still use it often, and its pretty slick. I would at least check it out if I were you.

Well, I've had my sensation for a day now, so far so good. Even though it's used it has a perfect screen, believe me I examined it thoroughly and couldn't find anything wrong with it. How long does the "dust under screen" issue generally take?
Also, so far so good as far as power button goes but it is going to take some time to get used to not having a trackpad to wake the phone. The speaker is equivalent if not a little better than my G2's, and compared to my OC'd G2 (usually had it around 1.4) it's faster in stock form.
I haven't rooted it yet, I'm going to use it for a month before I do that. From what I've read it seems most of you generally OC it to around 1.5?
I have a case on the way, it is definitely skinnier than the G2 and my big clumsy hands have a little trouble holding on to it so the case will be a definite improvement. For those of you who have a case on, have you noticed any decline in signal strength or gps?
As for my update question earlier, I shouldn't have worried. Within 10 minutes of putting my sim card in and turning it on I received the update to 1.50 (the latest one, right?) and it successfully installed with no issues. I still need to read up on what that update brought with it, but was one of the things a newer radio?
Sense is growing on me, for the past week I've been using my G2 with a sense 2.1 rom, so I haven't ruled that out for a DD for my sensation. I'm going to try out several different ones but I'll probably start out with Revolution and maybe Hypernosense and go from there.
Appreciate all the help, you and the G2 people are pretty nice. Seems like some of the forums have some angry people in them, it'd be an interesting sociological study to see the personalities and ages of various people matched with various phones.

advice: return it
i don't mean to be a party pooper, but return it while you can. get the SG2. i have one HTC sensation and the screen doesn't work anymore.it just turns on and that's about it. the Volume, another chapter entirely. works when it feels like. i have tried the ground contact thing, no luck. its a horrible phone. basically wasted £275 on it.

As far as getting the sg2 goes, if I'd wanted to spend another $150 I could get one but that's a lot of money, at least for me. I did only get 8 hours of use out of the sensation today with stock battery, but I bought an Anker 1900 so I'll see what improvement that gives me in the next few days.

I don't mind it dude, the phone works well for me, has no dust or other issues, AHD Rom, MX video player works, calls are nice n clear, backstab hd works and music sounds good on my bose mie2 headphones.
Battery can be better, but I have a dock and 2 extra Anker batts off ebay for 30quid.

Re: a couple of things from your last post
The dust under the screen thing doesn't have to happen if you buy a case that covers the volume rocker. I use a plain jane Incipio case and it's served me well. No dust under the screen and since it's a little stiff it buffers the power button a little... hence the double press issue just doesn't happen to me unless I take the case off. Plus it's made of this odd rubbery compound stuff, so it bounces off of the floor nicely.
A lot of people OC to 1.5. Or you could do the complete opposite, dump the laggy Sense launcher and just underclock instead. I run my Sensation at 972 MHz with DX Launcher as default and it's great. Helps a lot with battery life for daily use.
1.50 update does not contain a new radio AFAIK.
When you're ready, look into custom kernels and undervolt as far as your phone can handle. Your battery will love you for it.

Battery life completely depends on what you do, but should easily get one day full of high activity or a couple with minimal, will depend on which ROM you use and how phone is configured

Hi Prashanth.
Coming from the Galaxy Ace, this will blow your mind....especially if you've never used Sense before. The hardware is top notch...and you'll notice the worlds apart it it from Samsung, the moment you lay your hands on it. The camera is leagues ahead of your current phone too, and so is the screen. Same goes for the powertrain and internal memory as compared to the Ace.
That said, if you notice, i've repeatedly stressed on "compared to the Galaxy Ace" in my comments above. This is because there is no absolute, universal answer to your question, and there needs to be a reference point for comparison. If you compare it to other phones however, there are pluses and minuses depending on what you're comparing it to, and what amount of money you're willing to put into it.
Most of us here at the DS forum bought this phone when it was a premium device, and probably the first HTC phone with Gingerbread. So we paid a premium even though larger phones were available at a comparable price - add or subtract a couple of thousand rupees (the Incredible S, for example). So most of here believe that this is the ideal device - 3.7 inches being the perfect screen size to be one-hand-operable, and the form factor being one of the most ergonomic i've seen in any phone.
Battery life is top-notch as far as smartphones go, especially once you load up a custom ROM like Reaper or Endymion... but you won't be beating a Nokia feature phone if that's what you're after. Everybody at the smartphone scene agrees that a bigger battery is better, and of course we'd like a 4000mA battery! But there are technical, engineering and aesthetic components that constrain that choice for each device.
I would advise you to wait for the One series of new HTC phones, but after some very thorough reading up on the new lineup, i'm kinda disappointed in them. The two biggest gripes i have are : 1) No removable battery; and 2) No expandable memory (approx 11GB of user accessible memory is not adequate by a long shot IMHO. So even today, I stand by the Desire S as the best single device I have ever used, and I recently bought one more (for my wife) despite no constraints on the money I was willing to spend, or a dearth of choices...
But remember, modding on an HTC is very different from that on a Samsung. No more ODIN for you... get ready for a lot of new terminology and a different approach to customizing your phone. Also, the DS suffers from one ultimate hazard, and that is a high probability of an eMMC chip corruption (hardware bricking) if you pull out the battery while the phone is powered up. As long as you take that as gospel truth and avoid it, you'll be fine.
And even if you disregard everything that i've said above... just throw it all out the window.... this phone would still be worth buying simply because you won't find a better online community on any other device out there. You'll only realize this once you start hanging around here... That, in my opinion, is one of the strongest suites of this device, and I advise you to check out the community support on ANY device, whichever you may eventually decide to go for, before you buy it. You can buy a house my friend, but you can't buy family.
If you ask me if it was worth it...if I would do buy this phone again if given a chance to start over...my answer is Yes... It was, and i'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Hey Amith, thanks for ur precious time to type the info... The Thing which surprised me was SENSE.. Actually before buying ACE i was settled to WILDFIRE S.. But the phone had many constraints like the processor, But RAM was Gud.. But Desire series is wat i like the most.. My close friend own a desire.. I always like the tru color display..which blows my mind.. I would hav bought the desire S last week.. But its 1GHz stopped me because once we own a phone it should be of maximum potential.. So i thought if in future release of desire series any dual core i m ready to buy that.. Also with a HUGE RAM (~2GB )... The only thing brags me is battery life.. Mine gives around 21-22HRS with normal usage.. So i m waiting till next month end, if by that time if HTC releases a dual core in desires i ll buy off that

This phone is amazing, but a little old. Compared to the Ace, it's much harder to root. But the custom ROMs are quiet better. My friend rooted his Ace yesterday, Desire S users will be shocked to know how easy it was - download a SU ZIP file and flash via Samsung's recovery. No S-Off, no HTC Dev, nothing. But he had a hard time looking for ROMs, he liked just CM9 whose camera doesn't work.
Currently, i would not advise you to buy this, for the simple reason that it's a year old. Why trade an outdated phone for another one? Wait for the ONE series, but if you can't wait, then this is the perfect choice for you

Awesome mate. I second everything single word you have written. I bought mine in April 2011 and rooted in December. Now I have settled down with MIUI ROM.
I haven't used the HTC one series but among the available models there is none that even come close to this phone in design and ergonomics. Now I have taken off the screen guard and case mate cover and fallen in love with this phone all over again! The htc one s & x would have a carbon fibre finish, how cool would that be!

Best phone I ever had.
Great battery life (2 day average), great selection of roms, fast & smooth, perfect size (3.7" pwns), and on top of that all, a great community!
I also think we are up to date on the latest software. I mean we got ICS, sense 3.0, 3.5 (all runs smooth as butter), and soon we'll have sense 3.6 and 4.0 running as well.
I have to agree with the others though, if I were to get a phone now, i'd wait for the One series.

I really like the phone - everything runs smoothly so far. Sense 3.5 is the best UI I've used so far.
Battery is good enough - I have to charge every night, but I use the phone a lot during the day.
Anyway - now I would probably wait for the One.

But I still like this model.
I'm wondering if I should buy this model or to buy Galaxy s2 / something else.

Battery life - User dependant. Also other factors can impact this such as signal strength, type of data used, screen brightness. Looking at the battery stats thread it seems fine, better than my HOX and that's saying something.
10GB of user space available. 4GB for system & 2GB for apps. Plenty for apps. You have 10gb available to you for music, movies, photos etc. For some this is enough for others not so much. But with the ability to sync items to cloud storage for most it shouldn't be an issue.
Heat - Can't comment, but from various reading it seems cooler than other devices.
Not got the device but comparing to let's say the SGS2 this seems to have a higher resolution screen despite having a pentile screen.
Audio - Read it has one of the cleanest outputs on a mobile device, not heard it personally but it should be fine.
CPU - The S4 is one of the best dual cores around, so much there is a shortage and pretty soon they will switch to the S3. So grab the S4 version whilst you still can. It's plenty fast and outbenches some of the quads out there.
Sense - HTC's overlay, you'll love it or hate it. I love it. Has good contact management, lovely widgets, good for social networking, and such but can be a memory hog.
Camera - HTC has done a good job on the camera front. Like my HOX I like the pictures that it takes and the burst mode is a blessing. The software is also good and easy to use.
LED - This has a notification light, albeit 2 colours only compared to some other devices but at least it has one.
To sum it up it's a good mid range device. And should serve you well. Not having the device myself I'm only giving you my thoughts from reading reviews and taking some parts of my HOX.

I'd say think about longer term, it's an older device. The One S is the newer device and I'd be thinking about Jelly Bean the next android version. One S being newer would more likely be quicker to get it than the XE. It'll have more support from HTC.
Looking at the specs of both phones:
HOS is faster,
HOS reportedly has better battery life,
HOS has better screen in regards to viewing angles and sunlight compared to the first generation SLCD, again this could be subjective,
HOS is thinner and ligther,
HOS has the better camera,
HOS has native Sense 4 support,
HOS has 1gb of RAM compared to XEs 768MB,
You'll enjoy either but if you can I'd opt for the HOS if storage space isn't that important to you.

I have both the Sensation and One S and there is really no comparison, the One S is much better. I still like my Sensation but the One S is better looking and feeling, has better battery life and a nicer screen, and is much faster.
I haven't had any of the problems that people have reported here (sensitive button, poor reception etc.). Battery life has been good for me so far, and while it does warm up when you're using it heavily it's not "hot" by any means.
The lack of SD slot is not really a problem for me, but whether you can live with it depends on your usage. I've never used more than 4GB of SD card on my Sensation, so the 10GB on board is more than enough.
The only problems I would be concerned about are:
1) Chipping on the black version. I honestly think it's overblown (like most issues with all phones, only people who have problems speak up), but if you are really worried about it get the silver one. It looks even better IMO and it won't chip as the finishing process is different.
2) Getting the 1.7GHz Snapdragon S3 version instead of the 1.5GHz S4. The S3 is the previous generation chip, used in the Sensation, and is slower (despite the higher clock speed, the architecture is different) and uses more power. I don't know if there's a way to tell what you're going to get beforehand, though. Only thing I can think of is if you see "1.7GHz" anywhere on or near it, stay away.

As for the heat, only gets hot when you're charging it, but this is the same for every device, in use for games etc. mine is pretty cold to touch

Speaker for the HOX is fine, not as loud as say the SGS3 but it's consistent where as the SGS3 can be distorted on higher volumes. I prefer the ringtone sounds out of the HOX than SGS3.

2) Getting the 1.7GHz Snapdragon S3 version instead of the 1.5GHz S4. The S3 is the previous generation chip, used in the Sensation, and is slower (despite the higher clock speed, the architecture is different) and uses more power. I don't know if there's a way to tell what you're going to get beforehand, though. Only thing I can think of is if you see "1.7GHz" anywhere on or near it, stay away.

Very good! Call quality is great for me.
Loud (can adjust the volume) and clean.
You have dual mics, so any background noise is blocked out Obviously extreme noise like cars racing right beside you and loud music might not be completely blocked out and besides you won't be able to make the other person out anyway

That's nice, and now I really want it XDDDDD

I've just upgraded to this phone from the Desire S. I was thinking about getting the One X or the S3 too but I want a high end mobile phone not a mini tablet. This phone is amazing coming from a rooted desire S, its so fast and smooth I don't plan on rooting it.
My advise is to simply get this phone.

1) The battery life on this phone sucks. Expect to be getting no more than 4 hours of usage on average. The iphone 4/4s gets a solid 6 hours of usage. Thats 150% more battery life and I don't need to fiddle with the settings at all to achieve this.
2) The hardware has major design flaws. First of all the black one has that chipping problem with the paint. Well I have used my phone for less than 2 months and it looks butchered as hell. People complain about the iphone 4/4s, well I dropped a gazillion times and it still looked almost brand new when I sold it. I dropped the 1S one time! and the paint already came off. The front camera is recessed and gathers dust like crazy. It's impossible to clean it because its recessed and the dust has no where to go. Crap and dust also builds up near the top plastic cap. The speakers are also located exactly on the back of the phone. So if you put your phone on your table, you can't hear it ringing. Not only that the volume is so low. I missed tons of calls.
3) The community for this phone sucks. There is barely any activity on the fora and development for custom roms is stagnating. I mean sense is crap and there is only like 1 guy working on cm9? And correct me if I am wrong but the last version of AOKP is like from 3 weeks ago with tons of bugs. Now look at the Galaxy Nexus or the 1X fora. Or look at the SGS3 fora and that phone has not even been completely released yet. Its crazy. And this is worrying cause even sense has tons of bugs. There is for example this 3g/H switching that still hasn't been fixed as far as I know.
4) Then there is this low resolution pentile screen. Well its definitely ok and you shouldn't worry about it. But you WILL notice a huge difference if you put it next to the nexus, 1X or the iphone 4/4s and you will run in to all kinds of trouble with apps. For example while my own 720p videos looks good on this phone, youtube videos will look crap no matter how high you put the settings. There are tons of these annoying things. The screen is the reason why its not quite yet a flagship device while it could have been.
That being said I think its the best android phone on the market. Its the fastest android phone on the market. It doesn't have a cheap flimsy plastic body and it has a thin and light design. Aluminum feels really good on the hand especially when its cold. Its like 100 dollars/euro cheaper than the 1X and SGS3. I'd wait for the iphone 5 though. And if that turns out to be nothing or if the wait is too long then go ahead and purchase the 1S cause thats what I recommend out of the top3 android phones.

Once again, all of that is in YOUR opinion and from your usage only as well, plenty of people including me have had the exact opposite to you. Just because you experience problems doesn't mean that every one else will....
1. Is that on screen time your talking about? If so that is very good! (depending on usage and screen brightness) No other android phone gets anywhere near that unless the screens are set to like 0% and airplane mode enabled for a bit. Just look at my review and you will see the usage that I am getting from a single charge, now go and find me an android phone on stock ROM with a stock battery that can beat that (apart from the motorola razzr for obvious reasons). The iphone 4/4s also seem to have a problem with battery life for quite a few people, heck apple have even released a number of updates iirc to try and fix the battery drain
Plus don't forget that the iphone 4/4s doesn't have the same amount to do as an android phone.
2. The MAO issue is not a "hardware" problem, but a design fault.... Also I have had my phone since release day and still have no signs of chipping anywhere apart from inside the USB port plus HTC have addressed this now as they have got a design, which has a bevelled USB and less sharper edges. Well you were extremely lucky with your 4s then as due to the build of it and being mostly glass, the screen is almost always guaranteed to shatter when dropped......

It all depends on where abouts the ground impacts the mobile, you could be lucky or not so lucky with any device. If you want to be safe than sorry then a case is a necessary item for all mobiles, even the GS 2. Some devices are just more durable than others.
I have had no problems with dust getting under my screen, had my mobile since April, yes dust does gather in the front camera part, however, a quick blow and wipe with a pencil in a cloth sorts that problem out.
Emmmm what? The volume is amplified a wee bit when it is placed on the desk due to that reason, you can raise the volume as well you know or use a louder ring tone, you must be pretty deaf if you can't hear your mobile ringing......
3. The community isn't great, but it is starting to pick up now especially since the kernel source was posted, there are a few good ROMs from what I have read such as trickdroid and leedroid. Sense is crap in your opinion, many people including me love it and I for one won't be changing to a stock ICS ROM as I don't want to loose the features of sense, which IMO are better than the alternatives. The gallery, dialer, calendar, clock app are superb and not to mention the sense camera along with all the features, which you won't find on any other mobile or stock ICS ROM. Of course the galaxy nexus is going to have a damn good developing community, it's only the official/stock android phone that all the developers use to develop apps for and was the first phone to have a 720P display. The developing community here will never be as good as the the 1X or GS 3 community as they are the "flagship" devices and the phones that everyone will go for just for because of that "term"
Also the tegra chipset is apparently proving to be hard to work with for the developers with the 1X due to nvidia lack of support.
What are these bugs you speak off? I haven't had any problems with mine, super stable, super quick and smooth, multi-tasking is fine as I have disabled a lot of sense stuff and apps that I don't need and am using apex etc. instead.
If you look at my other post addressing issues you will see that I don't have the 3G/H bug, along with many other people.
The iphone is well known to have signal issues as well, not remember the 4 or 4s release where people were complaining about terrible signal, and apple said essentially "you're holding the phone the wrong way" and had to give out free bumper cases to solve the issue as it was a problem with the new antenna that they were using......
4. There is no problem with the screen, sure it ain't 720P and doesn't use RGB matrix, but it is perfectly good and better than most other mobiles screens apart from the ones you mentioned along with a couple of SE mobiles. The screen is nice and sharp still, the only areas I notice the pentile matrix is with white text on black backgrounds and some icons and even still I have to put my eyes right up to the screen. Plus the reason HTC went with with the pentile version is because the battery life is better with it than the RGB version (same reason Samsung went with pentile on the GS 3 instead of RGB). What kind of trouble have you run into with all these apps that you speak of because of the screen? What on earth are you talking about again??? Youtube videos will look crap no matter what settings you put them on??? The youtube videos look great.
Seriously, it sounds to me like you have a faulty one s if that is truly what you are experiencing.......
And after all that you still think the 1S is the best android device there is

Just buy it. It's a fine phone. These have been snapped up by many in the UK past few days due to a cheap contract deal so many more HOS users in the pipeline.

[Q] Gah; Handset Insanity! Help me choose my next phone

I know that you guys probably see dozens of these kinds of threads from confused geeks like me who just can't make up their minds, but I'm really stuck here. I've been up for hours reading about all of the handsets on the market right now and I just can't settle on one option that I like the best for my situation. I'm hoping that some of the more experienced users can help me out on this.
For context, I've been using an HTC Desire for the past two years no problem. I love the phone, but it is showing it's age and the internal memory is an issue. So I would like to get a new one, that can last me at the very least two more years. My budget is around 600 dollars.
I live in Canada, so the situation with carriers is pretty bad. I'm currently on Telus (HSPA+) and would prefer to own my phone so that I can bypass this whole contract crap and negotiate better prices for my monthly bills.
Anyways, boiled down, this is what I'm looking for:
Compatible with Telus HSPA+ Network (Rogers is a plus)
Either a MicroSD slot or 32+ onboard storage
At least 24 hours of battery life on a single charge
Decent performance, don't really play games but would like a lag free interface
Healthy hacking community
Good build quality and durability. It should be able to take a fall
Flash camera. Camera quality is a negligible factor but I use the flashlight every day.
Out of all of the devices I've seen thus far, I'm leaning most towards the OneX+. But I've also looked at the Galaxy Nexus and liked it as well. There is also the SGS3 but I think that phone is really ugly and don't really like it. Choices... choices... can I hear a voice of reason here?

What do you think about a Motorola Atrix 4G. It have a dual-core CPU (1Ghz), 16Go of internal memory + MicroSD slot up to 32Go. HSPA+ compatible, a great assembly quality with Kevlar. A high-capacity battery (more than one day of autonomy). A good healthed developers community.
I think it's the best phone for your requirements. It's not the all brand new smartphone, but you'll keep it for a longtime if you take care of it

I hadn't though of that one actually. From the looks of it, everything that I want is there. However, from the development pages, it looks like Motorola is being quite active in suppressing the hacking community, especially by not providing them graphics drivers which leads to numerous bugs in ICS and JB. That might be a deal breaker for me unless an Atrix4G owner can weigh in and clear my suspicions.

Note 2 if that isn't too big for u! Idk y u don't like s3 but 20million + people who bought it can't go wrong! and u oughtta sacrifice somethin to gain somethin! Just sayin. Ur wish! And BTW one x + is great. Isn't nexus4 there? Cuz nexus is already too old!
Ps - and don't ever think of buying moto. I myself own an atrix2. They r too unresponsive / ignorant about their customers. Worst OEM ever. And they have everything locked down (bootloader), so not really much of development!

The Note2 is far to big for my tiny hands, haha. The reason I don't like the S3 is because of the garish chamfered edges and the design that basically screams "no we aren't copying apple" while not offering any real inspired design. It's just too unrelentingly samsung. While Moto might be the worst OEM, I think samsung is pretty close.
Nexus 4 is out of the question because of it's pathetic amount of internal storage and no MicroSD slot. Also it is basically a glass enclosed phone so it won't have the durability of something like the one x+.
Honestly, I think I am going to go with the One X+ because it seems that it has the best internal battery, great specs, though I will probably hobble it a bit for extra battery life with a more efficient kernel. Also it seems that it could survive re-entry into the atmosphere with that fused ceramic/metal enclosure.
Then again... I might just go with the S3. I mean it is butt ugly but it has everything that I want in a phone. MicroSD, removable battery, nice screen, hacking community... damn. It's really not making it easy on my that the phone costs 150 dollars less than the OneX+. Plus the button is on the side as opposed to the top, which is nice.

man all this screams SGS3 and your better off getting it. everyone has said how much they love it. I would avoid htc though, theyve been changing for the worse...

Recommend the G pro 2? Would you buy again? What's to know?

I've kept my eye on the G pro 2 for a while (was about to get the original O G pro, but waited for this to come out). So I'm well aware of the specs, features, reviews, etc. But what I want to know is a real world user's opinion of the device.
Is the phone pretty decent? Any frustrations or quirks to know before trying to get one?
Key questions:
*How is the Mic/voice quality? (sending and receiving during a voice call)
*How is the battery life(I know it depends on usage and habits of the user, but just overall, how would you rate it personally, compared to other current/comparable Android phones)?
*Is it relatively stable and responsive?
*What bothers you about this phone?
*Would you buy it again if you were in the market for a new phone right now?(tells me that you like the phone and are overall happy with it)
I plan on getting a F350(a bit confused with the S/L/etc. acronym endings, can any one shed light?) I want to use it on at&t's network. On paper, and seeing professional reviews, the G pro 2 seems like my phone (1080p 5.9" screen, expandable memory via microsdhc, user replaceable battery, decent camera, etc.) But I want to know, if in practice, the phone is stable/frustration free(relatively speaking), decent real world battery life (if it's competent/comparable at least.. ), hoping that this is not one of those, "you have to root it and install a custom rom in order for this phone to be bearable"- type thing.
My other considerable is the Sony Xperia Z2 (prices are right, even though the screen is smaller and the battery isn't "replaceable"). I didn't want the Samsung Galaxy series due to the smaller screens and bloatware they put on there(note's a great series, but simlar.. bloatware, plus really expensive).

these are my questions too..

I came from a Samsung S3 (running CM).
first impressions were: Nice clean looks and lines, it's big (but it's not unwieldy). my wife has a Note 3 and it's about the same. the curve along the back sides makes it more comfortable to hold. Obviously, it's a heavier phone due to size, so your hand might get tired if you're one to use your phone lying down or something.
Screen is fantastic. I have no problems with colour issues with the screen and it's bright enough for me, even outdoors.
Battery life is good. standby can last more than a day. in usage, i was a bit busy yesterday and didn't use it too much, but from 0700 to 2300, i had 63% before i plugged it in. on a more typical day, I'd probably have around 40%. mainly a mixture of whatsapp, a few blogs, games and some TV show watching at lunch.
Camera is decent and acceptable auto focus speed. not a lot of bloatware.
I'm running 10e firmware due to bugs in 10f and waiting for lollipop. 10e is stable. not had problems with it.
problems: it's not widely available and the user base is small. so don't expect any fancy mods/firmwares or anything like that. as such, there's not a lot of accessories for it either outside of LG's own stuff.
My friend has the Z2 (not looked, but isn't the Z3 pricing nearly the same now?), and his camera is better and the battery life is longer due to Sony's Stamina software. display is about the same. If you want a big, stock phone, the LG is great. if you want to play around and like to customise your phone, then i'd go with the Sony.

I'm on the fence between the two phones, I like the bigger screen on the G pro 2, I haven't held one yet in person, but I don't think I"ll be bothered by it at all. Only thing that really entices me for the Z2 are the current prices for it right now.. for relatively similar specs, smaller screen, but better camera compensates. Honestly, I want the device to work well out of the box.. this is xda and I do play with custom firmwares and roms, but that's more of a result than a mission for me these days.. as in, if the unit runs better/faster/more stable compared to stock(or.. if stock is so horrendous that it must be rooted and flashed to be "decent").

Ive been using this phone pretty much since it came out (D838 rooted stock) and the stock Performance is fantastic if im honest it really doesn't need a custom rom unless you want to "mod" alot of things and even then as long as your careful theres still alot you can do with just root, i love this phone so much and its modified enough for my liking without a rom, its fine right out of the box and if you can live without a custom rom (which is really doesnt need that much) i think you'll be as happy as i am with this phone on stock with or without root.
But yes if you do like to flash and mess about alot go with the z2/note3 as there is more options there but this is still a brillant phone.

Thanks a lot for the assurance. I'm still bouncing around phone options, I guess it just comes down to price (best bang for buck, with expandable memory at least). I'm still considering the G pro 2, but I saw how the GS note 3 has come down a lot in price.

I've had both and granted you can mess around with roms and stuff but for pure joy in use i much prefer the g pro 2 its a really really good phone and for the low price you really cant beat it in my opinion unless this phone gets a good recovery and cm11 ill never bother with costom roms ect. For me its perfect on stock the peformence is amazing, to date (about 6 months of owning this phone) the battery still amazes and im yet to see any lag ever!! The ui is amazing, for a phone out of the box you cant beat it if you like music it outputs brillantly im just in love so maybe im a little one sided but i hope whatever you do you will be happy! Let me know!

I only can agree with that!
I did get mine last week and i am very happy with it! Came from Galaxy Note 2 wich i liked very much but i dont trust Super Amoled Display technology since noone grants you that it will operate more than 3 years with heavy use. I chose this device because it has similar dimensions as the Note 2, stronger hardware, bigger 1080p reliable IPS LCD screen and fabulous 3200 mAh battery.
It's a must have for phablet lovers that want to have a good performing phone with large screen.
After just a few days of use this is my opinion. On software side is everything ok, just the usual Kit Kat problem that bugs lots of users out here, tha lack of having permissions for apps to write to sd card. That was the only thing that bothered me, but thats on Google side. This phone is truly amazing!

Thank you for the input bhun and derbyshire! I really like the phone and want to get it, but for me the G pro 2 shipped from Asia to the US (I need the F350 model for LTE compatibility), it's about $600, I'm going to wait out just a little longer, it's a bit out of my budget (was hoping to score a phone for less than $450.. Sony Z2 and ZU did fit that for me, but not anymore either, haha).
I'm glad to hear that it's a great phone though(G pro 2), hopefully the prices will come down a bit for the F350 model and I can obtain one soon. Thanks again to all who have contributed!

The things that bother me about this phone are the poor wifi signal, I can be within a meter of my router and it still fluctuates between 3 and 4 bars. Any less than 4 bars wifi signal seems to have a noticeable impact on browsing performance. I also find the mobile data hotspot a pain, every so often the connection would hang and you would have to turn data off and back on again to get it to work. It seemed to do that every hour or so. Also if the phone gets even minutely warm, the brightness level will restrict itself to between 80% and 90%. I have had 3 LG G Pro 2 and they have all been the same. I also notice some flickering at times, especially when there is a white background on a webpage. I am almost fed up of mine and looking at selling it soon. It does have the potential to be a good phone, and I think all the faults I mentioned could be fixed with a decent firmware update.

I agree with you on wifi reception, its been the worst amongst all the phones i have owned
