Should the S4 Active i9295 also be added to this forum? - Galaxy S 4 General

Nlow that the S4 Active i9295 is officially out - should it be added to this forum?
EDIT:
If you feel that a forum for i9295 should exist (either as a separate forum or a sub-forum here or in some other place) PLEASE POST YOUR REQUEST IN THIS THREAD:

Oh, and for f**k-sake, if you vote NO can you please at least make a post and explain why? It seems to be the same CPU and cellular hardware as in the i9505 and the remaining differences to i9505 are very small - much smaller than between i9500 and i9505!

The drivers are different between S4 and S4 Active, at least the screen (I am not sure about camera). However, yes, in my opinion should be added to this forum.
If it were up to me, I would create a forum for S4 with S600 (i9505, Active and Google Edition) and a different on for the i9500

No It shouldn't be added .!

What argument are u use as against ? Can you read before post please , second post in particular....
No great difference, much closer to i0505 than 9500 so therefore yes it should be in same thread

I think that adding another device is brilliant idea.
We have i9500, i9505, duos, let's have some more.
It will give the mods brilliant opportunity for more work related with sorting out posts and the newbies will be more confused having such spread in mods, tweaks. In general, they will have much better possibility to brick their phone.
I already see the future posts: why my I9295 does not have.... or what shall I do if I flashed I9505 ROM into I9295...
Let's have some fun observing this, and let's incorporate one more device to the one which already contains 3...

See how many people are using it.

Realistically, the Active, 9500, and 9505 should be broken up. The US Carrier S4's should be merged to the 9505.

1. Keep your day job, being funny is not your thing.
2. The S3 versions are spread among like 10+ forums and there are still plenty of confused posters.
3. You will still absolutely f**k things if you write stuff from i9500 on i9505, so according to your "logic" the current status is already wrong.

This definitely has some better logic.
On the other hand I really don't know what is the general mod position related to so many separate forums.

That's good idea.
I don't see a reason to merge I9500 and I9505 - they are totally different phones. I9500 is much closer to I9300 than I9505.
From other side i don't understand why US versions have separate forums while they are 99% the same as I9505. Even ROMs are interchangeable (with little to none exceptions).
SoC should be taken in account while deciding how to group devices.
I really don't see a logic of S4 forum divisions!
from my point of view there should be following forums:
1) GT-I9500 + GT-I9502 + SHV-E300
2) GT-I9505 + All US variants
3) Probably I9295 should have separate forum

This is how I'd classify if the decisions were up to me
Galaxy S4 Main Forum
-- Galaxy S4 I9500
---- All the sub fora (Dev, themes etc)
-- Galaxy S4 I9505 & I9505G
---- All the sub fora
-- Galaxy S4 Zoom
---- Sub fora
-- Galaxy S4 Active (depending on drivers, might be merged with I9500)
---- Sub fora
-- Galaxy S4 LTE-A
---- Sub fora
-- Galaxy S4 Mini
----Sub fora
Blame Samsung for releasing 7(!!!!) different versions of the same phone. This seems to be the most reasonable way to classify it as some vary slightly (I9505 and I9505G) while some have massive differences in hardware (LTE-A and Zoom)
Honestly, I don't think there's a simple way of classifying this. First place owners of the Active and Zoom are gonna look is the Galaxy S4 forum on xda. That's where the fora for the different variations have to be, I suppose. (Now we'll have to have sub-sub-fora!) @Jonny

^This. Samsung releasing this many variants is an absolute joke IMO.
As for the restructuring that was proposed, there is a thread in General Discussion > About XDA-Developers.com for new device forum/subforum requests which is monitored by svetius and some senior mods who pass the requests up to the admins. I suggest posting your proposal there

Thanks, I'll post my suggestion there.
The two original variants were acceptable enough, as different regions occasionally have different hardware. It started getting simply ridiculous from Active and now the LTE-A version is pissing many S4 users off.
I like Samsung but their quantity over quality' attitude towards products coupled with their monotonous design are really beginning to get to me.
I'm not saying their products are crap but they don't seem to be doing enough to distinguish their non-flagships from other devices and even among their own products. Just look at the number of devices released from 2012-2013, I think that's even more than the number of products Apple has in total.
Samsung Y U DO THIS ?! :banghead:

LTE-A is only for Koreans, so I don't sed the problem in that.
I'd like an S4 Active, BUT IT HAS NO ROOT METHODS NOR CUSTOM ROMS AND IT MOST LIKELY WILL NEVER GET THE LATTER (at least not stable CM/PA/AOKP).
So as you said, Samsung Y U DO DIS?!?

Yes, the E330S is exclusive to Korean carriers. However, do you really think that they won't be releasing an international version soon? One equipped with the S800?
It may not be as soon as a couple of months, but it is definitely coming sooner or later.

I don't mind where you put it, but you SHOULD put it somewhere! Right now random posts on the active are growing almost offtopic-like in different subforums, that's not very adequate.

I don't want to be mean, but it is much better to direct people to places where the information they seak already exists than it is to try and re-write, re-address the information in yet another thread on the same subject. Most questions don't have easy answers so it would take several replies to match the information that already exists and it just isn't possible to put 5, 6, 7, 100, etc... pages of info into one reply. Some people don't realize what they are doing so directing them (hinting to them) in the right direction of the information is helpful to them. They need to read ALL of the information available on the subject to help and keep them from screwing up and posting another question about what has already been explained. Others are too lazy to read existing info and expect people to hand them the information they require on a silver platter. They would probably want someone to feed them and wipe their butts too. Well...screw them! If you are too lazy or ignorant to take the time needed to learn how to do what it is that you want to do then you need to leave your phone alone...ATT loves you.
I was merely agreeing with u, I got tired long ago of answering questions that simply require a little research. That being said, for anyone else reading that post, I agree.

1: I did read existing threads - if not, how could I formulate the details in my initial post?
2: Posting duplicate threads? I've posted a duplicate thread? Maybe I'm crazy, but I dont see a duplicate thread that I've posted about this small question. The details mentioned within the other thread are already mentioned in the OP, so I was asking if anyone saw anything else worth mentioning. I don't see another thread like this one in the general section or Q/A?
Grow up a little, be more polite, its not like I'm posting a thread saying "why can't I flash this rom on my iphone?"
Edit: Okay, nevermind. I'll just leave it at that. I have already read through the entire threads, and found very little BEFORE I even posted this, but it's okay. It's just a tiny question anyway. No need to stir up hate and anger, my little lads. Go play mod somewhere else if you have to.

Those 100 pages, also some times make it hard to find the specific doubt one is trying to address. I understand what your point is about taking the time to read and learn, or otherwise just leave the phone stock, but I'm, to be honest, a little surprised at the attitude that I have usually found in this forum. Just like slotstik says...

How hard is it to be polite? I understand the huge amount of newbies that come in here, and also how many of them, post so many idiot questions, regularly. And I understand that it has to take a lot of patience to deal with those, but again, there's several ways to treat a newbie, and being rude is not one of them. Now, I'm not saying this is your specific case, it's just this particular situation made me speak about the strange, bad mood I've noticed in here.
I'm a newbie in this forum, as well as in Android in general (got my Skyrocket Dec 26th, love it by the way), and can perceive a certain fear of people to post questions, because there's an 80% chance you will get flamed. What this basically means, is that bad attitude towards questions, is making people not ask, it's hurting their curiosity... is that something desired in this forums? Shouldn't it be opposite? Shouldn't you encourage curiosity? Dumb or redundant questions WILL come, but isn't it part of the learning process?
Sorry about the long text...
One questions belong in q&a I know that's a tough concept two I don't care if it is 100 pages do a search within the thread yes you can do that we get fed up because there are rules which a lot of you ignore blatantly making it harder for us who know what's going on to sift through your crap over and over you want polite do things by the rules rtfm

Google and the search button works. If one is not willing to search and read they don't deserve to be spoon fed answers. Without research they will probably just brick anyway.

There’s some confusion out there in the Android world. Google Now is not Android’s “Siri killer”, that’s Voice Search (which you can get to and use from within Google Now). Google Now is much, much more than an application that listens to queries and spits out answers. I’m not even sure we can call Google Now a virtual assistant either. Google Now is about automating your life and in return, making your life easier. Google Now does that by providing a vast amount of information, pertinent to you, at your fingertips. There’s just one catch though. Those of your that often go full tin foil hat mode really won’t be able to fully enjoy Google Now to its’ full potential. So take off your head gear and let’s get started.
[Google Now] tells you today’s weather before you start your day, how much traffic to expect before you leave for work, when the next train will arrive as you’re standing on the platform, or your favorite team’s score while they’re playing. And the best part? All of this happens automatically. Cards appear throughout the day at the moment you need them.

our mod Red5 is handling not only SGR forum but other forum also and because of it he cant look after our forum whole day and clean mess from here, we already have alot mess in our forum and making such threads is increasing that mess. its our responsibility to take care of our forum and help it to stay neat, clean so that we can easily find what we need.

First of all, I didn't say or pointed to you. I know the rules & anything belong to XDA. if application doesn't belong to GALAXY R & not available that's why I put that thread in General forum for asking a General Questions regarding the same. second thing about intentions, I never said that you have pointed me personally. we are professionals & we must not feel bad if we are making each other understand about forum. As you can see in my previous post (in the beginning) I was not blaming anybody for anything. You all have right to let me or even anybody knows that this is what, we should do. .??:highfive::laugh:
This matter is already in the eyes of MODs & we should not behave like kids man.. be Happy dear & let the MOD feel like we can manage things as per our own. they have many things to work on..so dont take it otherwise.
Since the MOD has done his work.... Can we please move to the discussion in the OP..... i mean does anyone have any info as to the availibiliy of google now for other devices

Hopefully by the tym we get an upgrade to ics (via samsung or epsylon3) we will be able to use it on our phones without too much of a hassle :-D

Section Guidelines -- READ THIS FIRST

This area is currently experimental and was set up by the XDA Administrators for development discussion. The idea in this section is for developers (not only recognized developers, but all developers) to have a place for discussion threads to "talk shop." What kind of talk? Some topics (that I'm making up as I type this) might include (and are certainly not limited to):
Overriding the power widget in the notification dropdown
Considerations of using gcc versions other than 4.4.3 for compiling the kernel
Exynos: discussion on working around the SOC wake from sleep delay
This isn't a Q&A forum. However, developers might kick off discussions with a question. The difference? This belongs in Q&A: "My phone wakes up slow, will it go faster if I take my sdcard out?" On the other hand, the following might belong in this new section: "Has anyone tried adjusting the mmc detection timeouts to see if there's an impact on the SOC wakeup delays?" The assumption here is that the person asking the latter question actually knows what a mmc detection timeout is, how they'd change it, and has started to play around with it before posting the question.
As well, this section is not for posting finished products or "advertising" of kernels, apps, etc. This section is to discuss the process, not for the end result.
The hope (at least my own hope) is that developers can discuss things here instead of resorting the various other methods of communication we've used. At the same time, newer developers and even non-developers can LEARN from the conversations and eventually participate.
Depending on the reception (and difficulty moderating, probably) this experiment will either be expanded for other device types, completely shut down as a failure, or adjusted. Obviously, if we developers don't use it, it might be considered a waste of time and dissolved.
This section will be very closely moderated by moderators who are also developers and non-development discussion will be harshly dealt with.
I REALLY hope this will encourage more devs to spend time with open communication. This is XDA-Developers. Let's do development.
Edit (Jan 8th, 2013):
Clarifying "finished products" above: The threads in this section will likely spawn off or involve distinct programs/kernels/firmwares , and once a distinct product results, a separate thread
outside of this section should be created for supporting that distinct product. A link to that thread is welcome in the source thread here, but this section shouldn't be used to contain support or release posts.
Take care
Gary
Thanks a lot for this. Had requested this for N7000 forums, but oh well
But I still feel we could benefit from such a thread there as well..

The N7000 is very similar to the N7100 - just lacking a pair of cores, but still the same processor arch and I think the n7000 is getting JB with the same TW layer as the n7100, isn't it?
It seems to be that most of "note II" dev level discussion would be very similar to the original note (as well as the SGS3) so I wouldn't complain if it was done here. Of course, the real moderators might disagree with me, so it might help if Someone Important would chime in.

Actually they're still quite different to each other on the low hardware level even if they use the same IP blocks on the SoC, the SoC itself is basically built anew from what I understand. The non-existent 4212 is what you're describing there.
If you would have categorized these development forums I would have rather have them grouped on a per platform basis, and in that regard, as you know with my work, they are basically identical as they're based on this same "Midas" platform. This includes the S3 and all its variants, the Note 2 and all its variants, and the Galaxy Camera.

I agree on some of the SGS3 variants, but NOT the qualcomm variants of the SGS3. The sgs3 (exynos) also has a very similar version of TW as well now. I have no idea about the camera...
There's a chance that the i9300 device might eventually link to here... Keep in mind that it's still an experimental section, and while there's no leeway for non-dev posts, there's surely of leeway for non-Note II dev stuff (at least when it's similar to the Note2)

for those buying the S6

What made you choose this phone over the better 901F?
options
1 - What is the 901F never heard of it? (blame XDA for not adding section and media for not reporting it)
2 - I only buy the marketed phones.
3 - I am a developer and want to make money from donations so only buy the marketed phones.
4 - I just get what my carrier offers me.
5 - I prefer the S6 spec.
6 - 901F not possible to get where I live, otherwise would get it.
7 - other
I'm just curious... by what metric precisely is it that you're claiming the 901F is "better?"
what's the point of this thread?
I don't find the 901F 'better'.
The point is OP trying to convince himself his phone is better than the s6. Most likely he bought it not too long ago and is frustrated he can't get the s6, hence trying to convince people here that his phone is super awesome and that it deserves a subforum because it's too great to belong to the s5 sub.
PS : XDA people usually don't buy based only on marketing. But nice try.

Not so much frustrated about the S6 but rather lack of recognition by XDA.
But after the announcement of the S6 I am laughing, now I am glad I got this whilst it was the flagship of EE, as in my view the S6 is definitely an inferior phone.
The reason it needs a sub forum is that none of the S5 roms/kernels work on it, thats a clear indicator it shouldnt be lumped in the same section.
By the way you took the time to reply without answering the question? Its as if you think the answer is obvious or something.

If I may ask, why did you make this post? If you want a subforum for your S5, you should post in the S5 forums or contact a moderator. I really don't think this subjective "poll" to verify your phone's superiority was necessary...
If you want to talk about s5, please, go to the s5 forum
If that phone is so great then just keep it bud.
That's the thing

I made the post as I am curious what the mindset is of xda user's what makes them decide what phone to buy. As some phones get real popular, and others people barely buy.

Not sure if you've noticed this but XDA is a site for developers. We add devices based on developer interest, likely development (in upcoming flagships) or actual development (in lesser known devices).
That should answer your question.
Thread closed as the only point of this thread seemed to be to have a good moan (though that's what we British are known for so I guess I shouldn't be surprised)

My question is:
What are the specs of SD 835 in S8/S8+ vs Exynos 8895 (9 Series) in S8/S8+? Cores speed etc.
So I am considering the S8+...
~~~long story~~~
Note 4 locked me out cuz i somehow glitched out my samsung account, to the point where it was no longer on the phone. did a factory Reset to try and get the samsung account back, and now its asking for my samsung account, and it fails.. So basically Its asking for a ghost account. I am going to send it off to samsung to get it unlocked. but That gives me reason to get the S8+
~~~End~~~
Few things,
1. What do you think would be the best variant of the phone to get? (I am looking into changing carriers, currently on metro, thinking about tmobile.)
-I want to Root it, Should i just pre-order from Samsung and buy the international, or just get the Tmobile version? or maybe verizon idk. My note 4 never got a root because it was the AT&T variant, don't want to repeat.
2. Dex! Do you think we will be able to load up Linux? or Specific Virtual PC's with Corporate VPNS on them?
-This is was really is selling the phone for me, If I can load up a bunch of Virtual PC's on here, that'd be pretty bad ass.
3. If I decide to go with the Note 8 later this year, do you think the S8+ will retain its value on Swappa, that Way i can just sell and upgrade? (I use my stylus all the time, but Im thnking if I set up a sick Dex set up in my work van I won't really need the stylus.
4. How excited are you?
Any xda devs out there who have the exynos S8+ on order? Want to know who to bug for root and twrp access (err.. I mean who to send paypal donations too...) more than anything though, would be very apreciative if a dev could confirm after inspecting it if exynos S8+ is in fact bootloader locked.
Cant beleive how many drop tests and reviews on youtube not one addressing if exynos has a locked bootloader.
Hi i have a note 5 with some old versions off apps, am i better off just copy the apk or will loging in account let me download the old version on my new phone?

Yeah really, it's not available yet...

I just want to know about the deals they had in place for previous Note 7 users and where/when the Blue Coral version will be available.

Just some....
will the unlocked version of S8+ = exynos version? I was ordered one online, still waiting for it...
and, what time will we have root/magisk/3 party roms release?
thanks
Has anyone come across any micro sd cards they will be using in their s8's.
I have At&t unlimited data plan, but no tethering option.
Will rooting my device allow me to make it a mobile hotspot and if so, will I have unlimited data through that hot spot as well?
Telus Canada
Hey man when searching for the right version of roms / root. As telus user what version usually represents us?
Verizon, AT&T, T-mobile, US cellular, and how do I know if I have a locked boot loader.
Last and not lease, is the GALAXY S8 PLUS going to be rootable?
Hopefully there is gonna be a section on the forum for telus Canada.
Thanks.

Hows it bro?
I watched a few Youtube Videos today with diffrent comparison methods between s8/s8+ s7/s7e in some Benchmarks and AppStuff.
My Device (g935f @ Superstock Rom / superkernelwith Synapse Tweaks) is sometimes faster then S8. Special with Games the S8 is a little more better in speeds.
I cant see a big Reason why to buy me a new S8, when my actual S7e brings the same speed and function's. (Dont need Bixby or any ohter Voice App so..) The Camera is also the same with (too) little diffrences for my suggestion.
And i think the S8 cant get to 5-6hours SOT so far like an S7e. Ok 5-6 hours with Systemmods like Superstock, Synapse and Modkernel.. but i think with Stock Rom you get nearly 4-5hours SOT with normal usage.
So im interested of you guys..what do you think about it ? You think like me, stay with S7 and Upgrade with Note 8 or S9 next time ? Or you wanna buy the S8 right now or later with better prices ?
