Cheap Chinese phones? - General Questions and Answers

Anyone here had any luck with these Chinese no-name knockoffs?
They seem to be clones of Samsung Galaxies.
There is so many models,some of them have 5'7 screens.

Two colleagues of mine bought two different China-clone phones: one was a clone of iPhone (we were used to call it C-phone) and one was a clone of Samsung Galaxy S.
They both lasted no more than two months! Cheap plastic, ridiculous storage, resistive screens, lack of components (one without BT, the other had a wireless chip so bad that ot was pretty useless)
My idea is that Chinese cloning-machines-factories put their best effort in reproducing the external look of the phones they're inspiring at, but when you look inside you can find bad surprises...
And we had the same experience with clone-tablets too.
Stay away from that crap!

Thanks for the feedback. I was looking at this phone but it seems too good to be true.

Cant find much on it online either...
I need something that wont be detected by At&T as a smartphone.I had to get rid of my Note i717 because of that and it seems even the none At&t branded phablets are detected so a T-mobile one is out.

check out ZTE, huawei, lenovo, meizu and xiaomi
my dad has a xiaomi mi2 and it is very fast with a nice camera and good build quality
only about 300 dollars AUD
REMEMBER, dont go for clones, go for phones made by proper/real companies.

Totally agree. There are good Chinese companies that make good phones, obviously prices are not so different from Samsung, LG, Sony, etc.

Why to waste money on Chinese phones. Now there are lots of mobile companies who offering many cheap smartphones same as Samsung galaxies phones Like Micromax, Huwai and lots more and between these phones. I think Mircomax is best in cheap smartphones.

thank you very much for the recommendation,i was just looking at the micromax site. have you personally used any of their smartphones?

Have a look at Zopo. I've got the Zopo C2 http://www.zopomobileshop.com/107-z...d-13-mp-camera-mt6589-android-smartphone.html and I am more than happy - especially for this price.
And BTW aren't most of the phones "chinese phones" even the i-Phone?

Hello
Yes, They seem to be clones of Samsung Galaxies.
Having many models, but operating system of these phone is lower to compare original phone.

I'm using a Huawei Ascend G330D with TWO SIM cards! I think this is a really good phone with all features as the 'big' ones. I have to say one con to it; bad custom mod support and no multilanguage (chinese and english only). There are some sellers in Europe they are selling them WITH multilanguage support but I can't get a ROM.
I just hope Huawei will make the takeover at Nokia (as there are some rumours).
Regards!
BB

Unless you are looking for something that will hardly last 3 months, never go for chinese. You can find cheap enough smart phones by Samsung and as the other guy said Micromax too offers great devices for low price. You can get canvas 2 hd which got features of Galaxy Grand at a far lesser price. If you are looking forward to tweak your phone then better go for samsung or sony as there are lots of guides provided and if you dont want to mess with your device and want something cheaper, go with something like micromax.

Was that for me..?

Same here.
My dad bought two Chinese knockoffs that look like Samsung clones, as they have he design, but anyone can tell these are knockoffs. The image shown during boot-up shows the company name "L-Tide",and underneath are the words "lead tide". The OS is Android KitKat, and both have a Samsung Exynos chipset. The model number is just "S756". Anyone know if there is a suitable custom rom for this device?

I'll suggest you to buy Meizu.
I have Meizu M2 Note for a year and had no problems at all.

Oh my gawd! Best news I heard in a long time..
Just imagine... in 2009 we will perhaps see a HTC phone that actually performs to its specifications instead of being doggedly slow and crippled!
If I read it right, at least, Tegra platform will have it's own ARM chips, so that would mean MSM is out... No more Qualcomm. Best news ever.
EDIT: At least, this is assuming HTC doesn't order a crippled version like we know we they did before
sweeeeet
Brilliant news, hopefully this means some killer devices this year.
Just hope nvidia dont do a Qualcomm and ask for money for drivers
Best NEWS for HTC in a long time!!! The sooner a htc device with it the better!
I hope that it won't have those drivers issue that 5500 suffered from.

Multiple designs underway
Fifteen leading manufacturers are now developing more than 30 Snapdragon-powered devices, the first of which should reach the market in the first half of 2009. The growing list of Snapdragon customers includes leading original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and original design manufacturers (ODMs) such as Acer, ASUS, C-motech, Compal, Foxconn, HTC, Inventec, LG Electronics, Quanta Computer, Samsung, Toshiba and Wistron.

I hope the QC Snapdragon is only in the Thoth (leaked UMPC) and not in all the usual handsets. If it's the other way round, then goodbye HTC.

Yeah, 'cause Qualcomm's track record for making awesome chips just speaks for itself. Who wouldn't expect snapdragon to be all that the specs say?
* finds a wall to hit his head against
That is offensive. For those who have ainkling about how Q lied to us the consumers, I don't think they'll be awfully happy.
Hope they fit the hardware to WM7 somehow and to have WiMax going.. cause i don't feel like buying 2 devices
btw, Nvidia ROCKS.

Sorry to disappoint you, but it's possible that a Qualcomm baseband will remain in HTC smart phones in 2009. I haven't found a decent Tegra specification where this would be clearly indicated, however it looks like there's no integrated radio baseband. This is not a big surprise, as NVidia is not a major player in mobile radios market.
HTC was/is using Qualcomm basebands with many of their devices (for example based on Samsung SC3xxx). OMAP platform features an integrated baseband though.
Does anyone know for a fact what RF features Tegra chips natively support (apart from Wi-Fi and BT)?
Nope, but Qualcomm's radios aren't that bad IMHO. They're used all over the place in mobiles. I have no problem with reception, call quality, wireless connectivity or any of that. One of the few things they can actually do is RF. It's all the other stuff they fail at.
I'd be happy with Tegra SOC + Qualcomm RF! Perhaps I'd be even happier with Omap3 still, though that remains to be seen.

[UPDATED] The PlayStation Phone

Looks like Android might finally have a fighting chance in the gaming segment of the mobile OS world. While this only shows some hardware and doesn't say much about their game plan, I think it's great. If Sony and Google start producing some quality games for Android, MS definitely will come back swinging! Which means more games and choices for everyone. We might even see MS come out with a slider phone that has gaming controls!

Those blank spots better be for dual nubs. Other than that, fugly hardware accompanied by a great OS.
EDIT: It'd look fine if they made it look almost exactly like a PSP GO or a X10 Pro.
Honestly, Android games are lackluster at best. I'd be highly surprised if SE could make a phone good enough to challenge MS's Xbox LIVE integration in WP7.
Not to mention SE has a track record for putting old software on their NEW phones *cough* DONUT *cough*... I'm thinking it'll be DOA.
This isn't Google's device, but Sony's. This is there product and probably be the only Android device to legitimately support PSP titles. So this one device has to compete against the not one but nine WP7 devices. It's also probably digital download only which killed sales of the PSPGo, I'm guessing it's gonna do the same here. And if it doesn't add updated graphics there kinda wouldn't be a point.
meh. looks like a cheap UI like on every othe android device. gaming on android sucks anyway. there are hardly any decent titles.
My goodness where is all this misinformation coming from. First its only a prototype device. Second its chip beats every WP7 device. Third Android has a boatload of games from top gaming companies that also support the iPhone(which pawns every other mobile gaming phone OS).
One device versus 9? Be serious the iPhone 4 pawns every UNRELEASED WP7 device.

I never said it wasn't a prototype. You can tell just by looking at it, that this device was somewhat thrown together.
Just putting this out there:
If you want to game, just go for WP7.
Android is a huge joke when it comes to gaming, WP7 has a huge group of real video game developers, plus the addition of XBL. Whoever said PSP games were any good anyway?
Regardless, this looks interesting

I duno how I feel replacing the analog stick with a multi touch pad.
I think it would be neat to see them make a controller case for other android phones, that communicated via. blue tooth. That way, establishing a hardware platform would be significantly easier.
I would NEVER buy one, no more SonyEricsson for me thank you...

According to latest survey by comScore the digital measurement provider Google's Android and Blackberry RIM have beaten up Apple in the wild race for best mobile Operating system,OS.
The from comScores "Mobilens Serivice" tells that the study of 30,000 mobile users; 30.4% were Android based as the leader followed by RIM ( Blackberry) and then Apple with a constant 25% share of the Market.
With Regard to this Race for Mobile OS Supremacy, all have there advantages, but on the other hand this proves that today a major Population uses smart phones. (65.8 million in US only) .

Nope, i feel the same too, the new Bold makes me horny.
Anyway, these numbers mean almost nothing: Apple sells only ONE phone, which costs about 800$, while there's a bunch of crappy low end android phones out there, so go figure.
This said, we're users, not shareholders, should we really care about marketing? I guess not, it's none of our business. What we should care about is software/hardware quality...on that note: there are many androids with awesome hardware, but does the software really keep up with that? Look at a super cheap lg optimus 7 (desire cpu+gpu package), it's smoother than a SGS II and costs about three times less. Even RIM has hardware acceleration now, BB OS 7 will be way faster than current android os when it will come out in a few months, and i won't mind picking up one if ICS won't be a MAJOR update. After a year spent on this OS i can say that it's not perfect, and i'm even kind of tired of playing the nerd part ironing out the bugs and glitches that google dev team is unable to handle.
You might say i'm a fool, and argue that RIM sucks and is about to die, but believe me, if android doesn't come to a new deal i can't actually tell who's gonna die first (at least in the highish end devices marketplace)
I love my android. Don't want anything else

go android go
Google might be in the lead but there will always be loyal Apple and Blackberry users.
Android has the best quality in my opinion, and the fact they are open source is that much better!
Much easier to find Apple/BB loyalists than Android one in my opinion.
As expected
Android will be the King. And from the top cell phone news, almost 70% are about Android
Apple or Android
Apple and Adroid Both r nice
but i reffer Apple iphone most its the matter of Trust.

I agree.
When I get my Android smartphone, it will be because of its low cost, first and foremost. I also appreciate the OS's flexibility. But I'm hardly "loyal" to the operating system, since it seems that its primary attraction is what it doesn't do, that is lock down the system from its users, than anything it does do.
When there is an OS that lets me use my smartphone computer like an actual computer but has full developer support, I'm jumping ship. (The most likely candidate will be Windows 8.)
go android!!!! piss on apple!!! and rim is ok people are just on apples nuts, if the white color gets u excited then u shud try coke
I'll always go for the one that gives me the most out of my OS, and that will always be Android. Though I'm not loyal to it.
If Blackberry, Symbian, WP7, WebOS and iOS do not do anything new and spectacular, a.k.a if the situation stays like how it is today, Android will be the king.
note: I am using an Android (Desire) and am very satisfied about it but I am more than willing to get something else, if it is better.
I'm sorry to share this idea here.
In my opinion, Apple is still the best. If you don't like it's premium price tags, Android has some good alternatives.

Apple makes great devices but it's androids turn to shine. Open source linux is what users want. If you want a simple device that's easy to use then buy an apple.

Exclusive Huawei Ascend P1 Review on Benchmark.rs

Hello fellow XDA members. Who and what is Benchmark you might ask? I will introduce us in short. Benchmark is largest website and community in the Adriatic region, with latest and greatest informations in the domains of Hardware, Software, Mobile, Multimedia, Business IT and Games. We write reviews for many categories of devices, one of which are smartphones.
Anyway, we have something that might be of interest to you, and if we are not mistaken, this will be a premiere and a real review of Huawei Ascend P1 smartphone, not just hands on details. We managed to grab an Engineering Sample early, so we were lucky. I decided to do a thorough translation of our original text in Serbian, so that others enjoy the review too. Here is the link leading to our review in English:

It would be nice if you could share this review with others, it would mean very much to us. We aren't popular like Engadget and GSMarena, so spreading the word is not a simple task. Cheers guys, and hope you will like my review.
Fantastic work mate I must say. Bravo.
Ill share this with my fellows
All the best
Nice review and nicely spec'd phone, I wonder if this will ever reach the UK market because brands like this rarely do?
Stock ICS but not the stock ICS launcher?
There is a stock ICS launcher, 3D one is just optional, as i wrote in the review

I realize now, does still look very nice but it's a shame about the slightly lower spec GPU when the rest of the phone is of such high spec. I'm not sure what it means for real time use though.
Isn't the GPU the same as the one Samsung used in the slightly inferior SGS2 GT-I9100G?
As for Huawei in the UK, I have seen very fee of their products here tbh. They are about, I own a Huawei E586 MiFi but you don't see many phone other than low spec cheap pay monthly.
Maybe if this phone is as good as it sounds it'll get picked up by UK carriers, would be interesting see how it performs against the SGS3 later this month and the Galaxy Note 2 when it arrives.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Swyped from a distant star, the other side of the Galaxy on my GT-I9100 powered by ICS 4.0.3 using Tapatalk ©
Well yeah, PowerVR SGX540 does come in I9100G model, but also in many other models like Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy S I9000, Wave I and II, Motorola DROID RAZR XT91, LG Prada, etc. It's not a fresh chip that's for sure, it was manufactured in November 2007, but it still widely used in devices, as it is still very powerful.
There is a a discussion circling the internet, about Mali-400, the most praised GPU that SGS2 and Note have, only being better in benchmarks, because of the higher fill rate.
"The Mali-400 MP4 in the SGS2 is performing better than the SGX 540 in benchmarks because of fill rate. Read this article by Anand, it explains some of the differences between the GPUs: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4686/samsung-galaxy-...
When it comes to handling polygon counts though, the SGX 540 is actually much more capable. Next year's games will be very poly-intensive and this is where the SGX 540 can actually start outperforming the Mali-400 in the SGS2."
So, I would say that it's not entirely a bad thing having a PowerVR SGX540, and in real use, it doesn't make a huge difference vs Mali-400, as people think it does.
I don't have any doubts that Samsung will take its SGS3 and Note 2 a couple of steps further. Huawei really needs to think very carefully, and assign a good price for this model, because it might find itself outperformed by models that are coming very soon.
Nice review, keep up the good job!
Good and exclusiv review.
I wish you all the best. Keep going with the good work.
Thanks for the review! How about the Ascend P1 S? Has it been released yet?
This phone is so amazing, it has all the features that you may need. I definitely will go for it when it hits Chile
So the P1 is fatter and does have less battery 1670
and the P1 s is thinner and does have a bigger battery 1800 mA , is that correct? I thought just the inverse.
And engadget said that the snappier of the two was the P1 S, anyone wonder why? if they have the same specs.
do you konw if this device support OTG ?
Why does samsung have to be a bunch of dkheads!!!!
Why Dont they release One phone for ALL This is one downfall of these money hungry FKRS... Korea apparently get the 1.8ghz clocked Octa core WITH LTE ---- WHY CANT WE ALL GET THIS ONE, WHATS THERE FKN PROBLEM.. MTHR-BEEEEEEEP!!!!!!!!!!!... Most other countries will get the I9505 snapdragon and other countries will get the I9500, And here is where is becomes REAL stupid... 60-70% of sites say the I9500 will come only in 3G 30-40% say it can support LTE in some countries.
Some ridiculous news I heard
Samsung did not have enough parts, so they used the S600 to fufill there stock.
Some developers can unlock the i9500 so they it works on LTE
The LTE exynos is bad on battery ( BS ) I own the I9305 its the SAME BATTERY LIFE as the I9300 I owned them both, I DIDNT NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCE
ITS 2013 EVERYPHONE SHOULD COME WITH 4G STANDARD!!!!!!!!
Guys Is the S4 I9500 going to support LTE or not and why are so many places saying it can and and so many saying no... If someone knows anything, do you know what LTE bands it will be
Surprised to see a senior member post this. You can have your exynos octa. I'll take my superior gpu and be on my way
Wow.... switch to decaf?
Sorry I just snapped it.... LOL
I really dont care if its Octa or Quad or what ever.. Why do they need more then one variant... I wasnt happy about the I9305 but I said ahh maybe they made a mistake and realized we should of brought out all the phones with LTE and 2gb ram.... But no it happens again... Ah well life goes on Rant over...
So really is the I9500 LTE or not... And why are there so many places saying it is and vice versa.. Anyone have it in there hands already that actually know?
There's so much ignorance in the OP... and I don't mean that to be disrespectful.
Samsung is one of the only companies that is capable of doing such a giant world wide launch in every country producing millions and millions of HIGH END phones for everyone at once.
No one is capable of doing this, not Apple or HTC.
Apple slowly releases the iPhone out in regions. HTC doesn't sell as well as Samsung does.
Look at it at a business standpoint. That's all I can say.
Well I myself would rather them releasing that enhanced one 1st then 1 year later another enhanced one, but that's just me. < and BTW I don't doubt samsung is a capable company, I just don't believe that they couldn't create one variant for all, its all money making ajendas
But haven't you seen the benchmarks? They are nearly identical in performance. One isn't going to outperform the other by a noticeable margin. And if there are regions without LTE, then why put LTE chips in those phones? Even if a LTE chip cost $1, that's a few millions of dollars that add up in these regions. That could cut cost on your next TV, Phone or samsung designed toilet.
My i9300 outperforms my GF's i747 in benchmarks but there's nothing I've ever done that her phone couldn't do.
I'll just leave it at this. You're possibly one out of a million consumer that feels this way. The other consumers probably don't care and will never notice the benchmark differences. They will have a phone that functions like another SGS4.
In a research study, people were blindfolded when drinking various water bottles. Most of them chose plain American tap water as the best tasting water.
I do hope that one day Samsung is capable of just making 1 phone for development reasons. But if this allows me to enjoy a SGS at a great price optimized for my region and I don't have to wait 6 months like I did with my ATT Captivate I'm happy!
I believe it's because of fulfillment reasons. They don't have enough initial capacity to produce enough handsets worldwide.
Sorry I just snapped it.... LOL
I really dont care if its Octa or Quad or what ever.. Why do they need more then one variant... I wasnt happy about the I9305 but I said ahh maybe they made a mistake and realized we should of brought out all the phones with LTE and 2gb ram.... But no it happens again... Ah well life goes on Rant over...
So really is the I9500 LTE or not... And why are there so many places saying it is and vice versa.. Anyone have it in there hands already that actually know?
Maybe the OP needs to unregister from XDA and start enjoying life a bit more.
The only fail by Sammy is that they are not using SD600 in all their S4's.
