Looks like Android might finally have a fighting chance in the gaming segment of the mobile OS world. While this only shows some hardware and doesn't say much about their game plan, I think it's great. If Sony and Google start producing some quality games for Android, MS definitely will come back swinging! Which means more games and choices for everyone. We might even see MS come out with a slider phone that has gaming controls!

Those blank spots better be for dual nubs. Other than that, fugly hardware accompanied by a great OS.
EDIT: It'd look fine if they made it look almost exactly like a PSP GO or a X10 Pro.
Honestly, Android games are lackluster at best. I'd be highly surprised if SE could make a phone good enough to challenge MS's Xbox LIVE integration in WP7.
Not to mention SE has a track record for putting old software on their NEW phones *cough* DONUT *cough*... I'm thinking it'll be DOA.
This isn't Google's device, but Sony's. This is there product and probably be the only Android device to legitimately support PSP titles. So this one device has to compete against the not one but nine WP7 devices. It's also probably digital download only which killed sales of the PSPGo, I'm guessing it's gonna do the same here. And if it doesn't add updated graphics there kinda wouldn't be a point.
meh. looks like a cheap UI like on every othe android device. gaming on android sucks anyway. there are hardly any decent titles.
My goodness where is all this misinformation coming from. First its only a prototype device. Second its chip beats every WP7 device. Third Android has a boatload of games from top gaming companies that also support the iPhone(which pawns every other mobile gaming phone OS).
One device versus 9? Be serious the iPhone 4 pawns every UNRELEASED WP7 device.

I never said it wasn't a prototype. You can tell just by looking at it, that this device was somewhat thrown together.
Just putting this out there:
If you want to game, just go for WP7.
Android is a huge joke when it comes to gaming, WP7 has a huge group of real video game developers, plus the addition of XBL. Whoever said PSP games were any good anyway?
Regardless, this looks interesting

I think they're kinda like the things on F and J keys on a keyboard. Tell you where to place your thumbs maybe..
I duno how I feel replacing the analog stick with a multi touch pad.
I think it would be neat to see them make a controller case for other android phones, that communicated via. blue tooth. That way, establishing a hardware platform would be significantly easier.
I would NEVER buy one, no more SonyEricsson for me thank you...
S/E are just fuc&%#¤ with us customers, they only send out old android versions, and they don´t keep their promises to us...
So pleace think long and hard about it before you spend money on that company...
Yeah I've never heard good things about SE phones. But things could change. It will most likely ship with 2.2.1 or hopefully Gingerbread.

According to latest survey by comScore the digital measurement provider Google's Android and Blackberry RIM have beaten up Apple in the wild race for best mobile Operating system,OS.
The from comScores "Mobilens Serivice" tells that the study of 30,000 mobile users; 30.4% were Android based as the leader followed by RIM ( Blackberry) and then Apple with a constant 25% share of the Market.
With Regard to this Race for Mobile OS Supremacy, all have there advantages, but on the other hand this proves that today a major Population uses smart phones. (65.8 million in US only) .

Nope, i feel the same too, the new Bold makes me horny.
Anyway, these numbers mean almost nothing: Apple sells only ONE phone, which costs about 800$, while there's a bunch of crappy low end android phones out there, so go figure.
This said, we're users, not shareholders, should we really care about marketing? I guess not, it's none of our business. What we should care about is software/hardware quality...on that note: there are many androids with awesome hardware, but does the software really keep up with that? Look at a super cheap lg optimus 7 (desire cpu+gpu package), it's smoother than a SGS II and costs about three times less. Even RIM has hardware acceleration now, BB OS 7 will be way faster than current android os when it will come out in a few months, and i won't mind picking up one if ICS won't be a MAJOR update. After a year spent on this OS i can say that it's not perfect, and i'm even kind of tired of playing the nerd part ironing out the bugs and glitches that google dev team is unable to handle.
You might say i'm a fool, and argue that RIM sucks and is about to die, but believe me, if android doesn't come to a new deal i can't actually tell who's gonna die first (at least in the highish end devices marketplace)
I love my android. Don't want anything else

Google might be in the lead but there will always be loyal Apple and Blackberry users.
Android has the best quality in my opinion, and the fact they are open source is that much better!
Much easier to find Apple/BB loyalists than Android one in my opinion.
As expected
Android will be the King. And from the top cell phone news, almost 70% are about Android
Apple or Android

I agree.
When I get my Android smartphone, it will be because of its low cost, first and foremost. I also appreciate the OS's flexibility. But I'm hardly "loyal" to the operating system, since it seems that its primary attraction is what it doesn't do, that is lock down the system from its users, than anything it does do.
When there is an OS that lets me use my smartphone computer like an actual computer but has full developer support, I'm jumping ship. (The most likely candidate will be Windows 8.)
go android!!!! piss on apple!!! and rim is ok people are just on apples nuts, if the white color gets u excited then u shud try coke
I'll always go for the one that gives me the most out of my OS, and that will always be Android. Though I'm not loyal to it.
If Blackberry, Symbian, WP7, WebOS and iOS do not do anything new and spectacular, a.k.a if the situation stays like how it is today, Android will be the king.
note: I am using an Android (Desire) and am very satisfied about it but I am more than willing to get something else, if it is better.
I'm sorry to share this idea here.
In my opinion, Apple is still the best. If you don't like it's premium price tags, Android has some good alternatives.

He was the same to Adobe with regards to Flash. If it wasn't for Macromedia/Adobe, Apple would have died LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG ago. If it wasn't for Macromedia's software, graphic design and video editing software, and, of course, Flash, wouldn't have been designed on a Mac and Apple would have died a slow, painful, death. And even before that, MS bailed the c***s outs.

How many options does ios5 "steal" from android or others. Such is the nature of business. If someone buys something, another company is going to produce a similar product with their own twist to appeal to another group of consumers and some of the "original" company's. When one company started building suvs, and another company sees a trend they will too. If one company sees that ppl like rear window wipers others are going to manufacturer them too. Take something, build it to your liking and add in to it. There are few truly genuine and unburrowed ideas in today's business. If you think you have a niche in the market, don't plan on having it long unless you continue to innovate. Heck, apple even spends less on its r&d per revenue then goggle, microsoft, or rim. Because they gave up on innovation and spent more on legal departments and advertising?

Umm so now that web OS is open source who's going to start the porting to our Android devices lol? Lets get this dual booted from our sdcards. RIP WebOS, your fate was sealed when you released that god awful palm pre...
http://m.bgr.com/2011/12/09/hp-cuts-its-losses-makes-webos-open-source/
Hardest part is going to be creating a gesture area on the actual screen since we obviously don't have the hardware. I don't even see how that would work
It'll be a few months before a source code even lands. Hopefully, webOS will be platform agnostic by then even though in later iterations was tailored to Qualcomm.
The hardest part imho is actually building drivers from scratch in order to run a dead OS. I highly doubt that any dev here will be likely to take on such a big PITA...anyway, fingers crossed, who knows? It's always exciting to see a different OS running on our devices, even if we're never gonna use it for more than 10 minutes to show off

Ryan Hope of webOS Internals has webOS running on an EVO3D Once the source code is available to the public the gang is confident that it will run on a variety of devices.
Can't wait to get back to my old favorite
Running and running Mister.. It boots. Nothing else. Touchscreen, camera nothing works (yet).
I was thinking.... It's not just us that could use the source. What if companies look at WebOS and decide to try and make it viable. I know the odds of that are so far from possible that it's laughable, but that would be ironic.

Exactly. They just didn't go well together. I would switch to WebOS if it was up and running on my Thrill. It's beautiful and simple, and if another manufacturer had it from the beginning, it might of had a really good chance.
I wish I was a developer. If I knew how to develop I would be all over this project. I guess I'll just have to sit back and watch.
Webos porting
Yes, I too anxiously await the future of open-sourcing webos, I still rock my pre2 and hope that developers may revive it with fresh apps. WebOS is still the best multi-tasker and I hope to have more apps in order to multi-task with I have yet to give up on the actual Palm hardware, but any webos development is greatly appreciated.

Unlike apple, Microsoft gave them plenty of chances. Only Motorola can be blamed, not like they were releasing anything revolutionary anyway.
Meh...w/ that said, the Razr (thinnest) and Razr MAXX (longest battery life) aren't revolutionary to you? Minus the locked BL's I still say the Maxx is one of, if not the best phone out currently overall.
I don't find either advance to be a game changer, now if they made a small battery with that much charge or a thin phone that retained durability I'd understand.
What's Motorola?
I don't see that lasting long. Google going to lay some smack down on Microsoft with it's new patient portfolio.

Motorola will most likely be singing a different tune once Google flexes the "we own you" muscle a little bit.
In this day and age, I just can't understand a company who doesn't embrace the open spirit of Android development. Developers can help a company so very much if that company will open it's eyes and stop thinking "only" with it's bottom line.
Obviously they'll work it out. Too many $$'s at risk.
These kind of things don't make sense to me. It is so stupid. So if Microsoft wins, then Motorolla will just change 1 small thing in their new phones and move on with life...

I actually had to watch that video to learn about it. Motorola DROID line up doesn't get much play on this side of the world. Still waiting for the fantastic Razr Maxx. By time it gets here, if it gets here, it won't seem so spectacular versus the One X and upcoming GS3. Which is a shame.
Back to topic, I'm sure something will be fleshed out, MS deals more than Apple and with that whole Motorola Xbox ban thing I'm sure MS has some motivation.
I do'nt care, by the way, who cares?

Guess I should relabel for Noobs.
While i agree with most of the article you shared with us , some reasons were insufficient.
In a carefully planned business , nothing is impossible.
For example , Google can force Open Handset Alliance to develop a Universal UI and whenever a new kernel comes aboard you just paste the universal ui into the new kernel. This is beneficial for everybody. Updates will take less long and customers will be happier. (Carriers will be pressured to speed things up)
Or Google can take the matter into its own hands by going to the hardware manufacturers and obtaining the necessary information for drivers thus saving the manufacturers from unnecessary work. Google gets more customers and Device Manufacturers get more money.
But what do i know ?
Google is a big corporation. Big corporations always have plans and their backups.
As far as i pretend to know , Google already has plans that are waiting to be put in motion after eliminating all the bugs.
Just you wait... IOS will be nothing more than ash and ruins in no time. Open-Source is the future and the way to go.

You're forgetting about the free market. Every phone has different components from different manufacturers from all around the world. Putting that kind of pressure on companies will only help the major brand names. You don't expect Windows 8 to install on the XP machine you got in 2001, do you? So why are we asking for the latest Android release for a phone we bought last summer? 18 months might not seem like a long time, but in terms of the technology and innovation that has come out within that time, 18 months is a long time.
Fragmentation is an issue, but its unrealistic to expect Google to force every company to keep up with their innovations.

Those were the solutions i came up within a minute or so. They'll have bugs of course.
Also , not necessarily "Google". There can be other solutions.
The thing i tried to explain was , it's not impossible or unrealistic as you seem to think so.
The expectations create competition. Someone's gonna do it , we switch to that brand. The other brand will lose sales and will soon follow in it's example.
Sympathy for corporations will get you nowhere as a consumer , as corporations already look out for themselves.
You should look out for yourself by pressuring corporations to provide better service however impossible or unrealistic that may be.
A wise man once said ; If you thank for the small one , you can't get the big one.
