picture via voip or any other app? - General Questions and Answers

Dear all
Is there any way to send a picture via you android to a another phone number? I don't want to use mms, since it is expensive to send outside of country. I was thinking about something like VOIP programs like 12 voip.
PS: the another phone line does not have internet (nor WiFi or 3G)
thanks in advance

VoIP will work only with Internet connection, so it is not possible.
What is the device of the receiver? Maybe it could somehow connect to the Internet using the cable via PC.

The easiest way is connecting to some WiFi, the device supports it, why can't you use it?
Then you could use plenty of apps for the purpose you need...

I do have internet, both WiFi and 3G, but the another party does not have. so she can not use the internet for receiving pictures, I was thinking maybe I can use voip like program to send MMS to her.

If she doesn't have Internet connection, she can't use voip. VoIP = voice over INTERNET protocol. Sorry, no way.

I know taht the wmodem application is incluuded in the German t-Mobile ROM 4.00.33
If you want to try it, i can upload the files, so that it will be possible to test it.
I don't know either if it workes with other languages than german nor if it works on the XDAII...

wmodem from XDA I won't be a solution - it has the same problems - and may not work on XDA II at all.
wmodem exclusively uses the phone part of your XDA. BUT incomming Calls and SMS are LOST.
Possible Workaround:
before you start "Wireless Modem" try to divert ALL Calls to your Voicebox... Incomming Calls won't drop your GPRS Connection anymore.
divert: *21*06993xxx# (xxx is your ONE-Nr.)
after Closing wmodem:
cancel divert: #21#
Possible Workaround II:
ONE provides SmartSIMs. When I use the wireless modem, I first activate the other Phone (XDA is passive). I can use GPRS from the passive SIM. Incomming Calls and SMS go to the other phone instead....
I know these workarounds are not the best solutions but maybe it helps...

Voice over IP is Flaky

I am trying to get VOIP to work on my Fuze, and it has just been one problem after another. But my main problem is that it seems to be flaky I think it disconnect from the VOIP but still said it is connected. So i can call out and it reconnects and it all works. But no one can call in and i haft to go in to the phone settings and then internet turn it to off then back on again to whenever avalible, then they can call in for awile untell it disconnect again.
When i reset my divice sometimes is comes back on as connected and other times it come back on disconnected and i haft to go back to the phone setting and turn VOIP off and on again.
Is this a problem for everyone, or just me?
Oyeah i am using sipgate as my VOIP provider
Any Help would be much appreciated
Anyone have any suggestions?
bad connection? Mobile/3G/2G connection or wifi?
hard reset?
It might be a bad connection I will also do a hard rest.
So do you have any suggestions, if it is a bad connection. So it will automatically log back in what the connection is available again.
I am using Internet Calling 21109 to hack it. and then using a program call Sip conf tool to setup my VOIP settings. Is this the best way to do this or do you suggest something better?
Thanks

I'm having the same issue you are (I'm using wifi). I'm playing around with some registry settings trying to fix it - will let you know if I find something that helps.
I'm also using the same tools to set it up as you are - and those are indeed the best ones.
Good to know am not alone with this problem. Hopefully we can find a solution.

Who is your service provider? Are you on ATT? And if you are on ATT, which ROM are you using?
VOIP on Windows Mobile
I have struggled for two years trying to do this, with countless releases. I eventually just bought a second wireless voip phone that works great, and was inexpensive. Not a great solution. I can get it to work, however the call quality is terrible, and the client is flaky as can be. I also dont like the way the dialer makes you select voip or provider and then stays on it. I have tried a few third party software apps such as fring, and Xbeam, and these worked a whole lot better. In addition, most voip clients are speaker only. You can use a bluetooth headset, and that helps alot. I guess what I am trying to say is that unless you love endlessly searching for a solution, or are hell bent on getting this working, I would save your time and work on something else. PM me and I can send you the info on the phone that I got.
Break out the Head & Shoulders..

the problem with VoIP is that Voice travels over IP networks in packets in the same manner as data, so when you talk over an IP network your conversation is broken up into small packets. These voice and data packets travel over the same network with a fixed bandwidth. So its unreliable and doesn't provide a mechanism to ensure data packets are delivered in sequential orderhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VoIP#Challenges
wish i had real info for you, i was listening to an Adam Corrolla podcast and he was going off about VoIP.. If you were fortunate enough to be connected to a DS1 line aka T1 line, you wouldn't experience the $hitty quality.. but they cost several hundred thousand..

I wouldn't mind going 3ed party,
I tried some a wile back but the problem i ran in to was that nothing else interfaced with them. Like in my contacts if i said call this person it would use the build in phone software not the VOIP software. I am not sure if there is a work around or not for that.
I think it was skype and Nimbuzz
it seemed like nimbuzz got it to work in the normal speaker. I will haft to go back an check

Can you send/receive text messages over wifi? help end this debate

A guy I work with keeps arguing with me that you can't send text messages over wifi so setting my phone on wifi when at home to receive text messages and e-mails is pointless since it doesn't work.
Can someone please tell me if this is true or not?
The reason I use wifi is because my cell phone connection is crappy when at my house.

+1
Text messages go through your carrier's network, not your wifi network
+2, your device does NOT do this through the data connection, so even though you might have mobile data turned off, or in this case, connected to wifi. It's using the Short message service center to communicate the data, this is over the voice network effectively, NOT DATA.
Also, this is the wrong forum for this OP.
Some T-Mo phones, like the G2x, can connect to the voice network through wifi, still uses minutes though.
Google voice will let send an SMS over a data connection.
There is an App available called TextPlus that allows you to send text messages over wifi. It does not use your cell # - it sets you up with a generic address
I use it on my tablet and works very well
It is available on the marketplace
Regards,
Get viber. Is easy and you can make phone calls and texts over wifi. Cheers!

Watch doesn't receive phone calls when connected through Wifi

I just noticed my watch will not receive phone calls when it is connected to the phone through wifi. For example, when my phone is out of Bluetooth range, but still connected through Wifi, I can receive notifications, as well as receive and reply to texts, but calls are not forwarded.
I have the wifi only version of the Gear S3. Not the LTE version.
Anyone else experiencing this?
Do you have a non samsung phone? If you do then i think thats why because the call forwarding out of bluetooth range works a little different on samsung phones vs non samsung phones.
I do not think that non LTE S3s can receive calls on WiFi. They only pair via Bluetooth for calls. Data is ok for WiFi, but there was no mention for WiFi calling that I'm aware of. That is why the LTE models do standalone mode via cell network.
Sent from a TMo V20
It should be able to. It says it on the website it need a phone app for calls to work on the non-lte version. My guess is an update will fix that.
Have you turned on Remote Connection in the Gear app on your phone?

Yes, that's on by default.
The picture says requires WiFi and a voice call app. That means some third party app' but not your telephone operator's and voice line from them. At least this is how I would interpret that.

Any update on this, im curious can you receive calls when you are within the bluetooth and wifi range? I asked about the voice call app and never got an answer back. What is this app and where do you download it from?
There's no voice app yet that runs on WiFi and has VOIP functionality, afaik.

Yes, that part works.
great thanks for confirmation
It would however great if there is at least an option for sending a "missed call" message.
So no bluetooth, because you left the phone in the house a few rooms too far away, but still trigger on the s3.
And also for other messages. I do not seem to get them either.
Tested with just bluetooth switched of on the phone.
When I use the messaging app on the watch I can read them via wifi.

On old Gear S, after BT disconnect, the watch is connected with the phone via Samsung account.
Because there is a sim involved, the Gear app redirect the calls to the watch number but all the notifications, SMS, WhatsUp, etc are relayed to the watch via Samsung account.
This is the part I don't understand in S3 .. if the phone and watch are connected via wifi, why the notifications are missing?
Fine, there is no voice even if they advertised something about a voice app which does not exist, but notifications?
I think i know why the voice call app is not released. This watch has a horrible wifi connectivity issue. I found this bug out and reported it to Samsung developer forum hoping for a fix. While the watch does report "Connected" all the time when you are connected via wifi.
I setup a few tests a foot away from my router without any other devices on the 2.4GHz network to saturate it. I noticed there was constant timeouts, this explained why trying to use the Gear Watch Designer to load a new watch face took so many retries. Sure enough the Wifi connection is anything but stable and worthless if you ask me with the constant timeouts.
A small app that only sends a "missed call" message via Wifi would already be mothers little helper.

BTW I understood that Bluetooth 5 has a far larger range?
Huib
Think of bluetooth as a euphemism for "connected at the hip". Whether its a keyboard, headset, stylus, watch, or other gadget, if it works via bluetooth it's only designed to operate within a few feet of the mothership. If you don't want to carry your phone on you everywhere, get the LTE version of the watch.

hummmmm...always a problem somewhere with this watch : or it doesn't work if non stock roms, or does'nt want to connect to samsung account using wifi (but the samsung account says it is !)....a little bit tired about that !!! even if i looove this watch !
I have 2 different WiFi routers. I connected my watch h to one and my phone to the other. I also turned off Bluetooth.
I used a different phone to make a call to my phone, it did not ring but i received a missed call notification on the watch , I could receive sms and whatsapp messages and can reply to them.
The only thing I couldn't do was make and receive a phone call from the watch.

[Question] App to call from a second smartphone

First of all sorry for my bad english.
The situation is: I have two android smartphone
1st = a Mobile with inside an unlimited call minute plan and 60GB per month internet (the mobile is used as Wifi-Hotspot)
2st = a Mobile connected to the Wifi-Hotspot using the 60GB
Does exist any android software to permit the second mobile phone to use also the unlimited call of the other?
I mean, the second is connected to the first by the wifi, so a software that give to the second phone to call by the first
(the telephone call would be made by the first, but the audio would by transmitted to the second by the wifi)
Sorry, but I don't know how to explain it better ...I hope it could be enough ^_^
Many thanks

I don't think it's possible , because an Android phone is able to transfer internet connection , but not GSM network .
Don't worry for your English and your explanation , they are understandable

But in some way if the software would permit it, it would have to only transfer the speach as compressed audio,
not the GSM Network. I meant:
"The software from my mobile would say to the same software in the other phone to call a number (so the telephone call would start from the right phone with the unlimited voice plan),
and then he would work on the voice as a Walkie Talkie beetwen the two smartphone ^_^
At least I think....

Ok , I see what you mean now, but I don't know an apps able to do that
The first solution is calling with some internet calling app such as Skype, WhatsApp and any others.
But if you just want to call via common cellphone, I think you have to contact your carrier to apply a family plan which will enable your second sim number to share calling minutes with the 1st number.

Thanks, I know the software you have written and I know that exist family plan, but I was thinking to use it in a office, and family plan would cost much more
Is quite strange to me that I was able to find a lot of software that permit Walkie-talkie beetwen two smartphone connected by wi-Fi and no one thought to make a software to share a telephone call
In the past existed the software "justremotephone" to call from the PC using the smartphone
but still nothing between Smartphone - Smartphone
