Hey guys, I consistently have the Captivate screen displayed as consuming about 90% and up of the battery life in the Android settings menu. Is this odd? I have the screen at the lowest brightness setting too. I don't make many calls but I do browse the internet a lot.
I have also noticed pretty poor battery life. Do you think a new battery from eBay would help. The build date on my battery says July 7 2010. I just bought this phone on craigslist and love it minus the battery life and gps.
No, that's normal. AMOLED screens use less power when displaying black pixels than normal TN or IPS screens but also consume more power when displaying non-black pixels.
So I guess if you stare at a black screen all day, it'll be more efficient.
If the pages you view have an option to change to a dark background, preferably completely black, do it. For instance I had all my e-book readers invert colors and it saved a lot of power.
New battery will likely not help. OEM batteries tend to be excellent.
Hi. I'm new with tablet. I just got my asus tf300 last week. I notice that I have only 6 hours battery life when I surfing and playing video in youtube. It's seem like I lost almost 20% battery every hours. So I just wonder how long bettery life you guys has with Asus tf300. Is this normal to have only 6 hours? I turn off bluetooth and gps all the time to save battery life but I does not help anything. Thank you for your answer.
I think thats about right it just depends on how many videos you watched and how many high end webpages you surfed through. Also the brightness is a big factor on battery life, i recommend using 50% brightness or less. Also check what programs are running in the background, and accessing internet on their own accord. Ah and also sleep mode isnt the best out there it still eats up your battery some, so you will get better battery life if you use it a lot during the day right after charging it.
With normal surfing the web and watching one or two videos, playing 15 mins of a game, I get about 7.5hrs. If I play a high end game (shadowgun thd etc) I've estimated that a full drain will take between 4-5hrs. If your brightness is set at the lowest position you can get almost 10 hrs just doing simple stuff.

Well at day time it is really hard to see it at the lowest positions, depending on the lighting you have in the room you are using it. At daytime I have mine set around 40-50% (if I have the charger connected I pump it up to 100%). At night in a dark room I set it at the lowest position, sometimes I use the Screen Filter app to make it less bright. For outdoor use you will need to set it at a 100%, you will still see a lot of glare though (I don't use it outdoors). If you want to get the best outdoor experience you might want to get a anti-glare screen protector, Caseen has some with pretty good reviews.
Hi all,
Started using the phone just 2 days ago and noticed some issues. The main one is the phone dies over night. I have nearly 40% battery then I can't turn the phone on the next day. When I plug the charger in it goes up from 0%. I then turn the phone on when it reaches around 15% and to my surprise the switched on phone days 58% battery!
This happened two nights in a row now
Other things I've noticed :
- some camera noise while on the screen which takes the photo. Is that normal? The resulting images aren't blowing me away either.
- screen tint on white background. This is my first amoled and my eyes are finding it hard to adjust. I heard this is normal? Mine is a bit yellow all over and greenish at the bottom. Should I be worried?
- some lag on chrome. This is mainly pages with ads maybe I need an ad blocker. Can someone with an ad blocker confirm that it speeds up the browser.

There's something wrong with your battery's calibration. Considering you've only had the phone for two days, I'd switch it out for another unit if you can.
I was going to try a factory reset but if the battery stats are out of sync then do you think it's a hardware problem?
Hi all
Fixed the battery by doing a factory reset.
I'm still getting camera noise aka pixelation when taking photos in low light. My photos don't look anywhere as good as others.
Also my headphone jack is stiff I have to use a lot of force to get my headphones in.
My whites are more greenish than white with a bit of pink at the top.
Are these things normal or should I get it swapped?
Anyone??? Waiting before I go return it.
Seems chrome lag is normal, it's not well adjusted for the s6, I use the stock browser it works well, plus it has that cool finger print feature to log into websites.

everything else is normal battery was abnormal but u fixed it on moled whites look slight yellowish but if its too much and the pink tint issue i m not sure take it to service centre!
Thanks all. Took it to my retailer who said nothing is wrong. I also saw a display unit which looked worse on the tinting. I might just need to adjust to this display first time I've used an amoled. The headphone jack is loosening up and the camera looks really good in daylight so guess it's just not great with low light.
I need to do some research on rooting now to get the best out of this phone!
You need to let the battery calibrate for a few days.
Display wise, changing the brightness affects the tint of the display. You'll notice less pinkishness on a higher brightness setting.
You can try change your screen mode too depending on whether you like saturated or more natural colours.
I don't like having the display too bright it will hurt my eyes. There's a bit of pink tint at the top in the middle I'm going to try and get used to it.
I did find this app called screen balance which has reduced the yellowness of my screen! I've also installed adaway and now have no chrome lag at all
I've been reading up on the camera distortion issue and I'm quite disappointed in Sony's attitude towards it but despite that, the device seems great and I ended up ordering one off eBay (the dual SIM model).
What's everyone's views on this phone knowing the camera has issues? Does it make you want to return your phone or are you keeping it?

At first I really thought of returning it because the distortion issue, but it is pretty minor for me at least (compared to what other people have, the distortion in my phone isn't that bad). But forgetting this thing, I really like the phone. 6 weeks with it already, and it's performing damn good. The battery life is very good (7 hours SOT usually, and with my usage I only charge it once every two days), the performance is unbeatable, with a bit of tweaks the camera can shine, nothing bad to say about the build quality at all, and the most important thing for me, the sound output, is incredible. Also the display is very colorful, you can see no pixel on it, and the dark levels are very good for a non-amoled display. Didn't had any problems with wifi droppings in this weeks, and the LTE speed and stability is perfect. As cons I would say the lack of wireless charging and the bezels could have been smaller. But those issues are in no way more relevant than the pros. I am happy with my phone and I would recommend it.

That's pretty much exactly what my thoughts on this phone are.
I highly recommend this phone. I just upgraded from an Xperia Z5 which was my very first Xperia phone, the second being my XZ Premium. I've had for almost exactly 2 weeks and I'm REALLY impressed by this thing.
I listen to music a lot on my phone using Bluetooth headphones, and the sound quality is phenomenal. The equalizer really kicks ass, it's way better than pretty much all of the equalizer apps I've tried. All of the equalizer apps I've used tend to lower the actual output volume way too much. With Sony's EQ enabled, your actual output volume won't be any lower than having the EQ disabled.
The overall performance is absolutely amazing. Responsiveness remains instantaneous no matter what I'm doing on the phone, or what's running in the background etc. It just WILL NOT SLOW DOWN!
The camera distortion is really a non issue to me. I believe it's just a software issue anyway. I take photos all the time on it and never noticed it until I saw it on this forum, then went and replicated it for myself. It's really no big deal at all for me personally.
Build quality is REALLY nice. This is a premium feeling phone to me. Only downside is that this phone will slide on any surface way too easily. If you have it on a perfectly flat smooth surface that has even a SLIGHT angle, this phone will slide down it. That does annoy me a bit, but I'll be getting a case for this phone anyway which will fix it. But I would 100% have still bought this phone even if I knew beforehand, it doesn't detract from actually using it.
Battery life is very good. If I charge it overnight from say 10-11pm and take it off charge at around 5-6am, I'll listen to about 45 mins to an hour of music or YouTube in the morning, browse in Chrome, reading and sending emails and also using SMS / Hangouts / FB messenger periodically throughout the day. After another hour of music or YouTube come around 5pm, it's sitting at around 65-70% battery. All of this is with BT left turned on, connected to WiFi most of the day, mobile data always on, location always on, brightness around 50%.
I'd easily recommend this phone. Bloody fantastic.

Agree 100%. I think the camera issue is phone dependant... meaning that mine does not appear to be as bad as some. Still hope that for those who are having issues that Sony comes out with a fix.
I agree with all the sentiment posted here. It really is a great device, and I'd definitely recommend it. I am hopeful that we'll have a safe DRM unlock / root solution at some point, but as stock Androids go, this beats most.
I barely notice the camera issue. All my photos so far have turned out fine but they are mainly of people and landscapes. I have had the phone 2 weeks now and honestly couldn't be happier, I use it as both my personal and professional device. I usually get a good day from a charge with a good 6.5-7 hours of SOT a day with multiple emails sent, a few calls and a few apps constantly running. I actually like the smart charge feature too, I only charge my phone during sleep hours so there is no inconvenience for me about charge time. I do miss there being no cap avarice buttons but only because my previous phone (Note 4) had them and I did like the full screen being an actual screen! For what I use this phone for it excels at but we all use ours differently. What usage are you wanting for your ideal device??

Hi, could you tell me the tweaks fpr the camera please
I have been using this phone for about 2 months now and here's my Honest review.
The Android OREO fixed many things. the camera in OREO includes an option "correction for image distortion" so the only issue of this phone "camera distortion" is gone. there is also DRM fix available for this phone now. performance-wise many people said that the phone lags on some games but thats a totally different story. Asphalt 8 and all other gameloft games have stutter issues. the games that doesnt work smooth are probably due to optimization issues. this phone can run GTA SA on fully max graphics. antutu score is 180,000 which is awesome. the LPDDR4X ram is fast enough to hold and process all data without any drop in performance. we all know that the 4k display is running in 1080p and only enables 4k in apps that support it (like youtube and sony album).
there are a lot of good things about this phone. some people said that the speakers are very quite but they are forgetting the fact that both speakers are facing towards the user so in a noisy environment too the sound can be heard by the user easily and is nothing to worry about. the 3D Creator app is fun to play with. the camera can be even better if you know how to use it in manual mode so that depends on preferences of the user. as for the charging speed, it is quite brilliant actually. for example if you need some battery urgently then a 15 min charge would give you 30-35% battery and you will be good to go for about 6+ hours (SOT would be less, depending on usage). as for me, i ordered the spigen carbon painted case for this phone and now the phone looks even better. better grip better handling. the phone just amazes in almost every aspect. i have used s8, op5 and iphone 8 but there is something special about XZ premium. it just is perfect in every aspect that you can think of.
The 3230mah battery seems small for 5.46' 4K display but its running 1080p that too on 10nm battery efficient chipset makes up for it.
PS: im not a fanboy or anything like that im reviewing what i experienced. there are goods and bads about every phone and according to that logic this phone has too many goods and very very rare bads which arent even noticeable.
Regards.

The Biggest Boost to the Battery Life came from Removing the Facebook App and accessing it thru the browser instead. Still have Facebook Messenger installed. Adaptive Battery ON, Processing Speed Optimized and FHD Resolution with Motion Smoothness at Adaptive.
Another upshot with accessing FB via browser is you don't get all the ads. Which is why the FB app uses so much battery.

Hahahah I was thinking about creating a thread about that to share our experiences and tweaks.
I feel that aodnotify (and always on display that is required for aodnotify) is taking too much battery. Do you guys use this app?

Weird that you brought it up. I deleted the Facebook app and started using it on the browser for that very reason. There was this Dr. Ad with a banana pic and no matter what I tried I couldn't get it to go away. It kept coming back and was annoying I couldn't control it. Then after I deleted the Facebook app I noticed the battery life was way better so I did another test and hence this thread was born.

Well lets collaborate on that here? Anyway no I don't use the AOD Notify. Is that the app that makes the flashy light around the camera hole when you get a notification?
What I do is use (always on) but set to only show when notifications come in. So the screen is blank until I get a text or email then it shows up on always on display and then when I read it then it goes blank screen again. That works for me.

Absolutely, we van use this thread! =)
Yes, it's an app to blink in several ways. I use the one that a circle around the front camera hole (eco blink). The issue with aod is that you can't see if there's a notification just by taking a quick look to the camera hole without taking the phone from your pocket, right?
You need to look the whole screen to see the notifications. Aod also let you change colors according to app, so just by looking I can identify a WhatsApp message or a missed call.

If that thing flashing the whole time in your pocket until you see it then yeah I would think that would be a big battery drain. I only have one social media app and that Facebook. Then I got the basic Phone App, IP Relay App (Because I am Deaf) Text Messages App and Facebook Messenger App. Because I am now using Facebook on the browser and don't have any other social media apps that probably has a lot to do with why my battery life is 10 hours SOT and 14 hours Off. I guess it like Virgo_Guy and the others said about Social media apps being battery hogs. Also WQHD Resolution eats up battery and makes phone run hotter especially when you out in the summer heat. I noticed mine was getting a little hot the other day and switched down to FHD Resolution and it got cooler.

Well I was in a hot car when it was doing that. When your bright sun light, it's 95 degrees outside and the screen is in WQHD and at full brightness so you can see the screen it will get hot. Other than that circumstance no it doesn't get hot but it does drain the battery faster. It's a fact of life. The higher the resolution the more the drain. Mines on adaptive.

Ok, I'll agree with you there. I'm in Texas and the heat/sun is insufferable so if I'm going to look at my phone outside I'm finding some shade 1st!
I still can't understand how you all get 6, 7 or 10 hours of SOT.
I went through all the guides and disabled every nonsense, configured bixby routines to go to power saving in certain situations etc.. And still at the end of the day I'm close to zero battery with just 3-4 hours of SOT at best.
Are you just watching youtube the whole day connected to wifi or what? No LTE? No BT? No Location? Low brightnes? No games? No camera?
And I'm not blaming S22 Ultra. That happened to every Galaxy Note I had in the past (no more than 3-4hrs of SOT).

I used LTE and 5G for mobile. Had it on all day. But was mostly at home or work and streaming over WiFi connections. Processing Speed is set to Optimized and using Adaptive Battery. Power saving is off. But I'm not a gamer so the settings in Game Launcher are still at standard optimization and Alternative Game Performance Management is disabled. So pretty much the stock Settings. I also only have one social media app and I access that (Facebook) thru the browser although Messenger App is still installed. I think social media apps cause a big drain on the phone. The other thing I have is the Resolution set to FHD instead of WQHD.
Also don't have my Netflix, HBOmax, Hulu, Disney+, Paramount+ installed on Phone as I watch those on my Galaxy Tab 7+ or the TV.
So basically I am just using the phone For Texting, YouTube, Browser, Camera etc. Things that don't use a lot of power such as Gaming, Social Media etc. If your a heavy gamer and got 5 or 6 social media apps on your phone your results are going to be drastically different especially if you got the Exynos version.
If you have Facebook installed that's a huge battery drain cause of all the ads. Try uninstalling some of your social media apps that can be accessed thru the browser and see how that goes. And when you not gaming try settings of optimized and standard instead of maximum.

Those are really incredible SoT you got there. Mine is about 8h.
It is enough, but we always want more hahaha. How are your sleeping apps config? Do you put everything in deep sleep?
I noticed there are apps. like Find My Mobile, that always appears on the list when I use Device care. Do you do something about those background apps?
@bat0nas I'm doing almost nothing... I keep Bt and location on, 120 Hz screen. The only thing that I'm doing to get more battery is using "Put unused apps to sleep" setting, which I don't even know how much battery it saves. Oh, and adaptative battery.
EDIT: Paul_Deemer , my settings are basically the same as yours. But I stay a LOT more in LTE than wifi, since I'm working presentially and only turn on wi-fi at night when I got home. I dont use social media other than Whatsapp and Instagram. I don't game often. If I do game or use too much camera one day it will probably not last that long.
The aodNotify app and aod consumes about 1,5-2% each every day. It's 3-5% total, which isn't much, but could be better.
Location is on for me but I turned Bluetooth off when it's not needed like when phone is connected to the car. Rest of time it's off. Don't see Find my Mobile using power and it not disabled so maybe the auto settings putting it to sleep I dunno. Considering how much Mobile time your using during the day with no WiFi available like me at work and that you have two social media apps installed and are occasionally gaming I think you SOT is about as good as it gonna get. I wouldn't be unhappy with your SOT based on your usage patterns.

Well, I seldom game, and when I do is for about 20-30min tops. However i do stay at LTE for almost the whole day. Is there much difference between using LTE and Wifi?
If you count discord and telegram as social media, then I have 4, lol. But I don't use them as much as Whatsapp and Instagram. Indeed, Find My Mobile isn't in the usage list.
I'd like to know how much battery is consumed when screen is off, but I'm not sure settings can do that. Do I need an app for that?
I saw this little quote on the web and it fits with what people are saying about 5g being a battery hog. Not using any special apps for battery management . There are plenty available though. Just do a search on Google.
You may notice that your phone's battery drains faster than usual while you are connected to a 5G network. This is a limitation of the current 5G networks, and will be improved as the networks expand.
Oh one other important thing to note. When I did that test above that was with Protect Battery Off. Meaning it went from a Full 100% Charge down to 10%. I now have it back to Protect Battery which means it only charging to 85%. So naturally you gonna lose a bunch of time with it not charging to the full 100%.
