[Q] Asus tf300 6 hours battery life. Is this normal? - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I'm new with tablet. I just got my asus tf300 last week. I notice that I have only 6 hours battery life when I surfing and playing video in youtube. It's seem like I lost almost 20% battery every hours. So I just wonder how long bettery life you guys has with Asus tf300. Is this normal to have only 6 hours? I turn off bluetooth and gps all the time to save battery life but I does not help anything. Thank you for your answer.

I think thats about right it just depends on how many videos you watched and how many high end webpages you surfed through. Also the brightness is a big factor on battery life, i recommend using 50% brightness or less. Also check what programs are running in the background, and accessing internet on their own accord. Ah and also sleep mode isnt the best out there it still eats up your battery some, so you will get better battery life if you use it a lot during the day right after charging it.
With normal surfing the web and watching one or two videos, playing 15 mins of a game, I get about 7.5hrs. If I play a high end game (shadowgun thd etc) I've estimated that a full drain will take between 4-5hrs. If your brightness is set at the lowest position you can get almost 10 hrs just doing simple stuff.

can you see in daytime indoor if you set brightness at the lowest position?
and how bright is it at the highest position? (daytime indoor too)
i just want to know how bright this tablet is when use it indoor, because i think i won't use it outdoor much, thanks

Well at day time it is really hard to see it at the lowest positions, depending on the lighting you have in the room you are using it. At daytime I have mine set around 40-50% (if I have the charger connected I pump it up to 100%). At night in a dark room I set it at the lowest position, sometimes I use the Screen Filter app to make it less bright. For outdoor use you will need to set it at a 100%, you will still see a lot of glare though (I don't use it outdoors). If you want to get the best outdoor experience you might want to get a anti-glare screen protector, Caseen has some with pretty good reviews.

Screen Brightness and battery

hi all, I want to find out whether having the screen brightness on 10% really saves battery or is it better to have it on auto.

It would be easy to test this yourself.
Set it to auto for a couple of days, make records.
Set it to 10% for a couple of days, make records.
You could also try a battery monitoring widget which shows mA consumed. These are great for this kinda thing.
To your question, I'd say it depends on ambient light. If you're somewhere where auto would set the brightness higher than 10% (read bright light situations), it will consume more battery. If you're somewhere dark, it could be that it will use the same. I keep mine set to 10%, and adjust as needed. I've found that auto often sets the brightness higher than I'd like to have it (I've got an SGS2, but I'm also very battery conscious).
I've found that the auto-brightness keeps the display much brighter than it really needs to be during operation in low ambient light (e.g. indoors), so I generally leave mine switched to manual and turned down.
Subjectively, keeping the display dimmer like this seems to make the battery last much longer, although naturally you'd need to do tests to have proof! Certainly well worth trying.

can change in roms eg cm7.1 for auto brightness
I use Lux. Works very well on my stock TM-UK ROM.
Possibly the more effective software I used to increase battery life

i made the same experience with the auto-brightness. I also use a widget which lets me change the brightness on my homescreen, it's quick and very useful.

Battery life horrible? Try this!!

For all you guys who need the edge on battery, and dont need alot of screen brightness, like me, then try out this app on the play store called screen filter. (I am not affiliated with this in any way, I just like the way it works). What it does is apply a "film" over your screen going even lower than android screen brightness. Perfect for office setting (like me), at night when brightness is too much (laying in bed playing a game), or where bright lights might not be wanted (movie theater, work, etc...). I personally love it, I use it usually at 75% with the android brightness off, and everything is still visible, just that extra kick of brightness is gone. Sometimes I go down to 50%, but that gets me seeing my reflection just as well as the screen itself...
It also helps to keep out them creepers that try to look at your screen while sending private texts, pics, etc... Helps keep wandering eyes off of the fancy 4.8 super AMOLED display!
You can add widgets to custom brightness settings to suit yourself, I have 4 right on one of my screens that I use frequently!
I recommend this app to anyone and everyone!
It wont let me post links, but if you search "screen filter" it should be the first app. The logo has a white rectangle outlined in orange with a grey circle in the corner. Not too hard to find at all.
I'm almost positive that screen filter won't increase battery life. I think the phone basically "thinks" its still at a higher brightness than what you see, so it really doesn't improve battery life. I may be wrong though but I remember seeing that when I used it on my droid x.

OLED pixels produce their own light (that is, without a separate backlight). Colors are made darker by dimming pixels. If the app makes what's being displayed on the screen darker, it should be helping battery life. The same reasoning applies to saving juice with dark backgrounds and inverted apps. It just only works on OLED screens and not backlit screen types.
Okay. I wasn't sure if I remembered correctly. Thanks!

Lux Auto Brightness works a little better, in my opinion. It can go less than the screen's brightness without the filter look.
Hi guys,
A friends uses auto brightness, and only speaks ~ 20 minutes / day. A few browsing, reading e-mails, games, just got him at 2 days of usage. Not bad in my oppinion, but certainly they should have improved the battery.
To me it seems like the battery life is longer. My first week of use around 9 or so it would be in the red, but using it throughout the day, at 9 tonight it sits at 37%. Yes it will vary depending on use, but mine has been on battery 15h 30m and screen is only 18%. Cell standby is 30%, and chrome and facebook are each 11%. Everything else is quite small compared to those main apps used.
It seems to me it is helping, but it may not idk. I will continue to use it unless I run into a major issue with it.

+1 to Lux. Set your own brightness levels for various light levels. It can make the brightness very low, almost not visible.

Anyone have some good values for the automatic brightness settings? I just want to go dimmer across the board compared to stock but I'm confused with all the options so far lol

Lol two days of usage and you think the battery needs to be "improved"??
How good does it have to be before people don't complain about it??

I would be happy to get 2 days of usage... I probably could get 1 and a quarter, but I charge mine every night to be safe. Really varies on how much I use it during the day. Some nights I plug it in with 10% others with 50%... I know its not the best for the battery, but I just plan on getting a new one when this one takes a crap. I have a feeling this phone will be around long enough that the option will still be available

That won't hurt the battery, I plug mine in every night also.
Thanks!

What I would like is for my battery to last just *ONE* day. It doesn't do that. I don't mind charging it every night, but I'd prefer it last the day without me having to either charge it or switch batteries.

nice find
nice find on this. i use inverted apps, and i like the way this works

battery never charges beyond and poor screen on time on battery life

Hello,
For awhile now, I've noticed that my battery never charges above 92%. Additionally, my battery goes down 10% every 20 minutes while using the tablet, which means the total screen on time on battery is around 3.5 hours.
I've done a factory reset and no improvement. I'm on balanced profile and auto brightness too.
I'm assuming my tablet or battery is defective, but before calling Asus I wanted to see if others were having this problem.
Thanks.
i'm not sure if you have a problem, but maybe auto brightness is the cause, if you usually use it in a light place, then it will adjust the brightness to higher, likewise if you use it in a dark place, it will adjust the brightness to lower.
for me i don't use auto brightness, usually i set at 10% - 40% (depends on what i do) and i usually can only get about 5-6 hours screen on time which i think is not normal, but everyone in transformer forum is saying it's normal so...
EDIT: as for the charging problem (never charge above 92%), i'm not sure, if you wait about a hour do you still see 92%?

Well my auto-brightness makes it REALLY dim, almost unusable. In the past I've tried setting it to 25% brightness and the battery life still sucks. Plus the whole "not charging beyond 92%" thing.
Well if I put mine on 1.5 ghz performance mode on full brightness watching 720p videos on MXplayer it lasts 6 almoat 7 hours.
If I put it on around 20% brightness power saving mode with ondemand scaling, I get around 11 hours

that's awesome, i never got more than 6 hours 15 minutes, but i never did a test either. so i guess i'll do a video test to see, but i'm not sure if i can look at the screen and watch video for 6 - 11 hours lol
@OP: your battery seems bad i think, at least my tablet which i think has a defective battery still has better battery life than yours. but maybe an app is behaving badly (like it always run in the background and check for new things), and do you have wifi bluetooth gps on all the time?

I thought maybe a bad app but I did a factory reset and didn't load any apps and problem is still there.
I'm only getting a battery charge of 57% or so on my tf300. The keyboard will charge fully, but the tablet wont charge beyond that very annoying, it was fine before last weekend.

I RMAd my tablet and Asus replaced the battery. It now changes to 100% and I get 8 or more ours of screen on time. I'm a little concerned the battery failed so fast but at least they fixed it.

8 or more hours is normal, now don't worry and enjoy
i'm getting about 5 hours with various uses, this is my 3rd tf300, the first 2 ones had the same battery life 5 hours with various uses too, i guess it's normal.
but maybe i need to do a battery test and compare with other people to see if it's really normal. anyway even if it's not normal i'm not repairing or exchanging it, it's working great (the first 2 ones did not work ok, i don't want to return 1 more time)

Extremely battery drain on Custom roms with Lollipop 5.1.1

Hello,
I have a problem with my Nvidia Shield K1 tablet
Running system: Lollipop 5.1.1 (downgraded from 6.0.1)
ROM: Carbon 5.1.1-UNOFFICIAL-20160809-1925
Kernel: from the above rom
I've brought this tablet as used and it works very well and smooth,
but when i just want to browse the web, watch some youtube videos or play some emulator games
i can see the battery draining very quickly, with simple web browsing and youtube my battery is draining with continuous use in like 4-6 hours (100% to 0%),
my question is is this normal?
1 time when i used some battery info apps from the playstore it once stated that my battery condition was "bad" when i had like 5% charge left, but never saw this again.
I've also tried to disable 1 core so it will run on 3 cores, down clock both cpu and gpu by a couple hundred Mhz with Kernel adiuator but somehow the settings jump up and down.
This battery drain is on marshmallow, and lollipop both on stock and custom roms, even after restoring stock rom.
Can someone say what is a normal battery duration with continuous use of the tablet? a rough estimate will do, i'm just wondering if my battery is defect or something,
also overnight it will drain like 7-8% if not used, i dont know if that's normal too.
Or can someone help me with this issue or a way to pinpoint the issue?
P.S. i've also applied multiple doze applications like Greenify and disabled most of my start up applications at boot, battery stats don't see any unusual wake locks either.
Thanks in advance for the replies and help.
First of all, it depends on the brightness of the screen. The higher the brighteness level the higher the battery usage. Second, if you play games or stream HD videos 4 to 6 hours is normal. Just browsing the web, word processing and office work should give you easily +9 hours.
Did you deactivate **Adaptive brightness** under **Display**?
Because no matter the ambient lighting, it's always too bright! Manually is the way to go.
Last but not least, is **app optimization** off? If not, do so. It only slows down the performance and drains battery.

Thank you for your response, and yes i have my brightness on manual as overday i like it at around 60-70% brightness and at evening/night i use 5% with a screen filter app to darken it even more which i like for my eyes.
I play emulator games sometimes but if i do i wont get 4 to 6 hours i can get around 2 to 4 hours max, as with browsing the web and office related stuff i have never seen it getting 9+ hours, the max i would get and i tested it several times was around 6-7 hours max, do you have any idea why this is?
I haven't tried disabling "app optimization" but i will sure try to disable that option and hope for more battery life
Could it also be that my battery is worn out/kinda dead as i've bought this tablet second-hand and not new?
+60% brightness that's something. My brightness level usually won't pass the WiFi symbol at daytime and when I game. So it's something like maxi 20% to 30%. And at nighttime and dim indoor lighting it's on 0%. I've to assume that's why I get more on screen time.
Haha, I'm used to darkness.
Either way, I highly recommend a 10k powerbank to double the time.
Moreover, WiFi takes a lot more battery than the Nvidia battery stats show! Just tally up the percentages, and it'll never add up.
The other day, I was streaming HD vids, playing some games, browsing the web and after +5 hours my battery was at 5%.
Most days, I work offline and I get way more on screen time.

Shield K1 - Any way to increase low Screen On Time ?

Hello there,
I have a K1 since a couple of month, update 5.1 installed.
While I can get a pretty decent battery life, there is still one thing eating most on my battery : the screen.
Most of the time, I get 2h and a half of screen on time, no auto brightness, set to the minimum. I end up with the screen being responsible of 85 or 90% of the battery drain !
This is bugging me a lot since I travel a lot and would like to be able to watch 4 hours of videos with a full charge...
Is my screen on time normal ? Is there any tips I can use to increase it ? I'm not rooted right now but I can look into it if necessary.
Thanks for your help guys !

To watch locally stored movies using MXplayer i get 5hours of movies. (10/30% screen brightness).
But yeah battery life isn't great on this device and yes the screen is always the main drainer for me too
Exactly what C4 says.
If you watch movies you don't have the brightness on 0%. What can make the difference is watching offline vs streaming! Streaming of course eats more battery.
And when you are a traveler consider a 10k powerbank to more than double your on screen time.
Well, the powerbank seems indeed to be the ultimate solution.
What bothers me is that you can tweak performance for app and stuff... and they end up taking no power at all anyway (not toking about heavy gaming of course).
Screen is always eating all the battery. I wondered if a custom kernel could make a noticable difference on this...
On any recent mobile device, when using it, the screen will be the biggest battery drainer, by far.
Only thing you can do (when using an LCD based device), is lowering the brightness. That's all.
