[Q] Google Maps App - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I remember Google saying it would be sometime this summer, but I was curious if anyone has heard any updates on when Google is pushing out their updated Maps app?

It was just updated about 2 weeks ago, during GIO. You might need to be more specific. Maps has received several updates in the last few months.

I know that maps.google.com was updated, and I've played around with that. They were referencing the Android app. I remember one of the features that was most appealing was that it would constantly see if there was a better route to take you on than the one you were currently on.

[Q] Lost Nexus S Stock music app

While cleaning out my phone with software I no longer use I somehow removed the stock music player. Can someone tell me how to get it back. I know most people do not like it but I want it back.
Um, the market

The one I am referring to I believe it came with the 2.3.4 update since that is the version of the music app. I know the android music app is in the market but I am hoping for the one that came with the last update.

I think your "stock" music app is still in your phone. The google one overwrite it because it will be standard on all future updates.
**try going into manage applications, all, then uninstall updates to music player
It's the same one from google but it was just updated the other day.

[Discussion]Whatever happened to BBM for Android?

They were supposed to launch the app on 21.09.2013, and then supposedly, their servers couldn't take the load. Last I heard about it was a tweet 8 days ago saying that they are "100% committed" to launching the app on Android and ios.
Unbelievable... that they should take so long, considering their expertise.

They blamed the leaked apk for causing technical problems with the servers prior to the official launch.
TBH I was curious to see and try BBM. I tried it and now I'm not interested. I also think BlackBerry needs an attitude adjustment.

Did it work when you tried it? I too tried but it didn't work.
I have been waiting for it since June (I do think Whatsapp isn't completely baked yet), and I do now think they've given up on it.

So I'm one of the 1.1 million people to blame for you not getting to try it. Sorry

Ha!
But seriously... to think they need more than two weeks to fix a glitch. And then there are always updates.
What are they building? The Taj Mahal??

Back in Beta
The users in the beta program for BBM for the android platform is saying that it's back in beta, with a screenshot showing the download page showing a ver. "100.0.0.71".
Hopefully this doesn't leak and it's back online in the next 2 weeks at least

Hope it lives up to expectations this time.
However, with so much going on with Blackberry, I now have doubts if this app will ever see the light of day.
According to a news site today:
In an interview to Reuters, Frank Boulben, BlackBerry's chief marketing officer, said he expects the BBM to launch on Android and iOS "within days," adding that the company is confident that it fixed issues that arose after the initial cross-platform launch of the messaging service last month.
...within days.......

Has anyone received the OTA update yet?

I emailed support earlier about the Hangouts notification not clearing if you leave the conversation open and go directly back into it.
His response was:
There is an update for the Nexus 5 rolling out currently, but it can take up to two weeks to deploy to all devices.

I checked and no update yet, has anyone else seen it?
Just did a manual check and nothing yet.

Unless tech support is referring to the Hangout update (v2.0) that came out earlier this evening - along with Google Search and yesterday's Google + update. All these released via Play Store & fairly routine - nothing in the way of OTA. Mine is sufficiently untouched except for rooting that it should pop out if pushed out.

True but others have stated the hangouts app in the play store is not what shipped with our device. One guy deleted it and downloaded it from the play store and it was not the same. So maybe the latest hangout update was to bring it to what shipped on our phone.

He said what I quoted, an update for the Nexus 5 is rolling out, but could take up to 2 weeks to reach all devices. That means it's an OTA update.

No, it could also mean play store update, that's also rolled out to everyone.

No, Store updates aren't rolled out over weeks to one device.

Yes they are. You also need to take into account that you talked to someone that likely has no idea what they're talking about. Customer support reps usually don't know anything.

remember store updates are usually for all the supported devices, not just nexus 5, so it could take some time to appear in everyone's account.
He was referring to the updates to Google now and hangouts. It takes 2 weeks for Google to roll out the updates. It's not an ota.

Hangouts just got an update in the Store, not sure if that was what you wanted.

Late December update?

Good morning!,
December 8th and still no update to our Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL bought from Google and on Google Fi. Seems some on other carriers have had their updates for days now. Anyone on Google Fi get theirs yet?

I got my Pixel 3 (bought from Google) December update on December 2. Be aware it caused a bootloop for a lot of users - I had to wipe my phone to recover. I recommend removing all Magisk modules, if not removing Magisk entirely before updating. You should be able to reroot after the update.
See this thread for reports of the problem. https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-3/how-to/guide-patching-boot-img-magisk-canary-t3964359

No worries. I do not have Magisk installed. I heard people were having issues if they installed the Pixel 4 launcher and were using gesture navigation. I have neither. Just surprised I have not received the update yet.

Pixel 3 purchased from Google, on Google Fi, and no update yet. Maybe they're delaying it after the initial problems. One previous monthly update took over a week for me as well, but usually I get them within a day or two.
Google purchase, on T-mo. No update yet either. Not just you.
Is it really that big of a deal??

You will notice that comment came from a Galaxy owner. They expect 3 updates over the life of the phone and are running on at best a 6-month old security level at any point. It doesn't matter to everyone.

Depends on what security updates are included. Also, I'm running the Nova launcher and it would be really nice to have gesture navigation support. One reason I got a Pixel is to get to the front of the line after living with other brands of phones that took many months to get updates. So not a huge deal, but Google has spoiled us with updates every month typically within a day or two of the first Monday.
Third Monday, everybody still in update limbo? Perhaps Google just wants to give X-mas gifts this year, but I'd rather they don't hold the update.
No update love for me as of 12/16/2019 4PM EST. I'm tired of waiting and will likely just sideload the update some time this week.
Still waiting. Obviously something is up.

Agreed, just download the OTA or full image and do it yourself.

You're right. Mostly a lurker and hadn't tried that before but worked like a charm. Thanks for the nudge.
I got it on my Google Fi purchased phone. I was using my VZW sim at the time. That may be why I got it.

Nearby Share

To my surprise Nearby Share has been added and enabled on my Pixel 4 xl. USA, TMobile, Android 10
Another screenshot
Also got it on pixel 4 xl in Portugal
Yeah, I've had it for a couple of weeks now and have even used it a few times, I think it's pretty cool though not as fast as I felt like it was made out to be.
Never had it and checked this morning when I saw the news and still nothing. Just now I was looking for something else and low and behold:
Sent from my coral using XDA Labs
And just like that it's now gone ??
Still got it here

My Pixel 4 XL on T- Mobile still doesn't show it
I don't have nearby share too. I'm from Poland
Weird guys, I still have it and I've had it for weeks now. That's one thing I've always sort of disliked about Google, the way they roll things out is always so spotty and can sometimes take months after the initial rollout to reach all Pixel users.
That rollout is not for all at the same time, they always rollout different things in different times.
You can enable it in the connectivity settings if it's rolled out for you
I got it when it was announced in the blogs
Any pixel owners in France get nearby share?
I didn't get anything yet.

I've had it for a few weeks now. Although I did update my Google Play Services to the latest beta version to get it then.

Nothing here. No point in running the beta since no one else will and therefore no nearby sharing to be done. I'll wait but what's the holdup?
I updated to Android 11 beta 3 last week and nearby Share is nowhere to be found
Nearby is still rolling out to devices at this point I think. That's the "Google way" unfortunately...
