Has anyone received the OTA update yet? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I emailed support earlier about the Hangouts notification not clearing if you leave the conversation open and go directly back into it.
His response was:
There is an update for the Nexus 5 rolling out currently, but it can take up to two weeks to deploy to all devices.

I checked and no update yet, has anyone else seen it?

Just did a manual check and nothing yet.

Unless tech support is referring to the Hangout update (v2.0) that came out earlier this evening - along with Google Search and yesterday's Google + update. All these released via Play Store & fairly routine - nothing in the way of OTA. Mine is sufficiently untouched except for rooting that it should pop out if pushed out.

True but others have stated the hangouts app in the play store is not what shipped with our device. One guy deleted it and downloaded it from the play store and it was not the same. So maybe the latest hangout update was to bring it to what shipped on our phone.

He said what I quoted, an update for the Nexus 5 is rolling out, but could take up to 2 weeks to reach all devices. That means it's an OTA update.

No, it could also mean play store update, that's also rolled out to everyone.

No, Store updates aren't rolled out over weeks to one device.

Yes they are. You also need to take into account that you talked to someone that likely has no idea what they're talking about. Customer support reps usually don't know anything.

remember store updates are usually for all the supported devices, not just nexus 5, so it could take some time to appear in everyone's account.

He was referring to the updates to Google now and hangouts. It takes 2 weeks for Google to roll out the updates. It's not an ota.

Hangouts just got an update in the Store, not sure if that was what you wanted.

[Q] Google Maps App

I remember Google saying it would be sometime this summer, but I was curious if anyone has heard any updates on when Google is pushing out their updated Maps app?

It was just updated about 2 weeks ago, during GIO. You might need to be more specific. Maps has received several updates in the last few months.

I know that maps.google.com was updated, and I've played around with that. They were referencing the Android app. I remember one of the features that was most appealing was that it would constantly see if there was a better route to take you on than the one you were currently on.

[Q] Installing google play on Kurio 7s?

I've seen links and videos for installing Google play onto the Kurio 7, but I recently bought the 7s for my daughter and was wanting to install the play store so that I can install some of the games I've already bought onto her tablet. Has anyone found out how to do it?
I also have one (Kurio 7s) and was hoping that there was a way
I side loaded a few versions of the play store with no luck. Installs fine, crashed at start up.

I also have a 7s and looked into the same thing. Followed previous methods for the 7 (which is not recommended btw) and have had the same results. App will install but crashes when trying to open. Wonder if there is some port the play store uses being blocked by kurio's fw?
I've talked to kurio's tech support and they told me that the tablets don't meet googles specifications for Google play. I mentioned that I've seen where the Kurio 7 tablet was able to get the play store and they denied it. Makes me wonder if I wasted my money supporting them. But since my daughter loves to play on devices such as these its worth the smile on her face.

Would you mind providing some more info? Had an ota option not too long ago, but no Play store yet. What build number/ Android version does the ota update bring you to? I might just not have got it yet (staggered rollouts and such), or might just be missing something.
Getting the play store on this thing would be a huge plus, to an already pretty good Xmas gift.

Were you able to find out any ways to get Play Store to work, or a way to make the older Kurio 7 method work?

I haven't found out more yet... I'm kinda hoping I just haven't gotten the update yet, so that it will work in due time. I'm out here in a non-US territory, so I'm used to getting things later.
Haven't been messing with it too much, as sideloading APKs is tiding my son over for now. But I'm still quite anxious to get the play store, however
EDIT: this thread here on XDA seems to have found the solution: as I thought, the OTA isn't available outside of the US yet, but you can flash a US rom and then update it so as to include the Google play store, if you want. Nice. May wait a bit for the EU OTA, but it's nice to know this is an option
Google Play update avail for Kurio 7s
Hey folks , Just to let you know I received a email from Kurio Tech last week ,stating that there finally a Google play update for 7s , I tried it last
night and wolla, it works! Please pass the word around . It's simple you just have to click on the update icon in your list of apps ,(blue arrow).
You may have to update again after the first(I had to update twice).

[Q] My S5 Play Store stuck on 4.8.20

I have tried several times to update Google Play Store to v5.0 by tapping on the version in settings on my Sprint GS5, but it says it is up to date at veriosn 4.8.20. Is this specific to the S5? Thanks in advance.

Ok, thanks. But are other S5 owners having this challenge? Is Sammy blocking us? Getting ready for Lollipop?

I wouldn't know, I always update early through apkmirror, however, Samsung is not and can not be blocking Play Store updates. It's up to Google for that decision and it just hasn't been pushed to your device yet.

This what I thought. My S5 is brand new, only had it about 8 days. System updates were immediate. All my other devices got version 5, but my brand new S5 was stuck at 4.8.20. It is now at 5.0.37 thanks to you.

I just noticed that my new GS5 will not update past 4.8.20, but my older one already has 5.0 on it. Even went as far as factory resetting my device, and the Play store would not update past 4.8.20.

Strange, isn't it?
I have Sony Xperia Z1 and I got the latest update of Play Store 5.0.31, but I needed to restore factory settings immediately. Now, I am stuck on 4.8.20 version too. I'm tapping on the build number to force update, but it tells me it's up to date. I don't wanted to side-load the apk.
Anyone had this problem? Thanks!
Same here, brand new S5 and play store stuck on 4.8.20
I have the same issue. I got 5 before a factory reset. After i made a factory reset the version sis 4.8.20 and it is no updated to 5
So, if we side-load the apk, will the future updates install automatically or we need to side-load them too?
I'm still waiting though...
I've sideloaded apps like the play store before and future updates still come through.
So, should we wait or sideload them?
I have always waited for any updates for my phone, I'm eager to have them, but I'll wait.

Sideload. Always Sideload from a trusted source like apkmirror. They're signed by Google and can't be tampered with.

Does anyone believe they'll release an update soon? Every email that has been sent is responded back differently.

I just received an OTA update on 2015-07-13. About 45 MB or so, IIRC.

Where are you located ? I believe Europe got an update last week, and here in the US , we got an update this morning . The update fixes the DT2W issues among other things. There are already at least two ongoing threads discussing the results, post-update.

In System Updates click settings. Change Auto-check to daily and allow it to download from your mobile data. It will download as soon as It recieves it, same as mine did. Just wait until it pops up. Mine showed up today (7/13/15) at 11:40AM EST

Late December update?

Good morning!,
December 8th and still no update to our Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL bought from Google and on Google Fi. Seems some on other carriers have had their updates for days now. Anyone on Google Fi get theirs yet?

I got my Pixel 3 (bought from Google) December update on December 2. Be aware it caused a bootloop for a lot of users - I had to wipe my phone to recover. I recommend removing all Magisk modules, if not removing Magisk entirely before updating. You should be able to reroot after the update.
See this thread for reports of the problem. https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-3/how-to/guide-patching-boot-img-magisk-canary-t3964359

No worries. I do not have Magisk installed. I heard people were having issues if they installed the Pixel 4 launcher and were using gesture navigation. I have neither. Just surprised I have not received the update yet.

Pixel 3 purchased from Google, on Google Fi, and no update yet. Maybe they're delaying it after the initial problems. One previous monthly update took over a week for me as well, but usually I get them within a day or two.
Google purchase, on T-mo. No update yet either. Not just you.

You will notice that comment came from a Galaxy owner. They expect 3 updates over the life of the phone and are running on at best a 6-month old security level at any point. It doesn't matter to everyone.

Depends on what security updates are included. Also, I'm running the Nova launcher and it would be really nice to have gesture navigation support. One reason I got a Pixel is to get to the front of the line after living with other brands of phones that took many months to get updates. So not a huge deal, but Google has spoiled us with updates every month typically within a day or two of the first Monday.
Third Monday, everybody still in update limbo? Perhaps Google just wants to give X-mas gifts this year, but I'd rather they don't hold the update.
No update love for me as of 12/16/2019 4PM EST. I'm tired of waiting and will likely just sideload the update some time this week.
Still waiting. Obviously something is up.

You're right. Mostly a lurker and hadn't tried that before but worked like a charm. Thanks for the nudge.
I got it on my Google Fi purchased phone. I was using my VZW sim at the time. That may be why I got it.
