Hi ya'll.
I have managed to softbrick my Atrix 2 (I do hope it's ONLY a soft brick...). :crying:
I'll try to describe my situation as accurely as I can:
First the current status of my phone - When I turn it on it boots, and I can even call it, and it will ring, and I can answer! - but the screen is off, and the phone is practically unusable...
When I connect the phone through USB to my PC, RSDLite recognates it, and I can try to flash firmwares from there (and also using the moto-fastboot commands directly).
It seems that the screen is off even through the bootloader phase - it dosen't show the Moto logo when it boots at all..
One time I did manage to boot it, and the screen was ON - but after a few hours it whent pitch black again...
Now I'll describe what led me to this situation:
My atrix 2 was bought online from ebay - from an Honk Kong store (I live in Israel).
It doesn't have any AT&T logo on it, and under it's battery it has these details written on it:
MB865
CHWG3219AA
AP3378AE7U2
L646QU228Q
And some more numbers... (If this has any use for somebody I can attach them as well).
From RSDLite this information is printed to me:
ESN: 356378040836041
Technology: WCDMA
Software Version: 6.7.2-226-EDICS-10
Flex Version: NOTAVAILABLE
Bootloader Version: 0a72
DRM Version: N/A
At first it was running the official ICS firmware - but I don't know which one! I didn't know that it was important to know what version if first arrived with - So I rooted it, installed the A2 bootstrapper, and through it Installed PA3, including the needed Gapps.
It was running just fine with PA3, but I preferred returning to the originaI ICS firmware, cause it was faster to me.
OK - now this is were things started to go wrong -
It seemed that I needed to know what was the original ICS Firmware that my phone had come with, inorder to download it from here (sbf.droid-developers.org/edison/), and flash it through Fastboot using RSDLite.
So because it came from the Hong Kong, I thought it might be MEREAT, or SEREAT - And I just tried flashing this version:
6.7.2_EDEM-18-SEARET_cfc.xml.zip
Blah... it was resulted in Failed to flash firmware: cdt.bin - phone returned FAIL.
And now my phone was stuck in Fastboot failure screen.
OK - I thought, this was probably the wrong firmware, i'll just try a different one.
Now I don't remember the next steps I did, because it was all kind of stressfull - but I just tried flashing all the mideastern ICS firmwares (and maybe also the GB firmwares as well) - and non of them worked (all failed the same - with cdt.bin failure).
Now the screen had gone OFF, and I became realy woried that the phone was hardbricked...
Luckely - despite the screen going OFF, it was still (and is still) showing up in RSDLite, and I was able to try other firmware's to flash, hoping I would eventually end up with the right one!
Some where in a post about how to downgrade to ICS, I read that someone failed to flash any firmware, but the InlineFlashing_Edison_67.21.125_CFC_P3_APBP.xml.zip one. So despertely enough, I tried this firmware, although I didn't think my Atrix is running AT&T US firmware originally...
Somehow this firmware flashed! but the screen was still off....
Later I tried to flash using Altered restore-to-ics scripts (using the moto-fastboot command) - And with it I successfully flashed p3_edison-edison-user-4.0.4-6.7.2_GC-220-EDS-3-65-release-keys.
But still...the Screen IS OFF....
Any help would be highly appriciated!!!!
Thank You!
Ben.
Oh no, just stop what you're doing and thoroughly read about what you are doing before you do anything else. I don't know how you haven't bricked your phone by now. If at all possible you need to find out what the original firmware version is and download the proper FXZ for that firmware version, and for future reference if you don't have an AT&T phone then you should never, ever, ever flash AT&T firmware.
Brought to you by time and relative dimensions in space.
Do you have any idea how I can find out what was the original firmware at my current situation?
Thank you!

If your phone is International (Retail) - you can try flashing JB leak 3. If at&t then flash last ICS 125.
Is this the 3rd JB leak?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2147600
I Tried the Jb leak... It also fails on cdt.bin.
Maybe Ive managed to **** my cdt.bin, and now it prevents me from installing the right ROM? Is there a way to override the phones check of the cdt.bin?
The only cdt.bin it allows me to install is the AT&T one...

That is because you flashed the AT&T FXZ. Your ONLY possible way to fix it, is to use BMM and backup your cdt.bin and then erase the cdt.bin, then try and flash the proper cdt.bin file with fast boot commands, then try and flash the proper FXZ for your PROPER version of the phone.
I am not going to give any specific details or a how to on this because it is VERY dangerous, but you can search there are a few threads in here on how to do it, or something very similar which you can adapt.
next time, read, read again, then read a third time, and make sure you know 100% that you know and understand what you are doing before you do it. You might be stuck with the AT&T firmware at this point, if you can not do what I am describing.
Wow, it does sound complicated, I hope I can achieve it.
Do you know if the fact the screen has turned Off is related with the damaged cdt.bin?
Besides that - how could I guess at this point what was the original firmware, and thus the original cdt.bin?
Thanks a lot!

At this point I would just pick the firmware you really want and stick with that. The fact that you have not bricked means you probably have an SEARET/MEARET version by default.
I am not quite sure if the screen issue is related, which makes me think that you might have an Asian me865, because it uses a little different video driver, but all of this is just a thought/guess at this point.
Ok, Thanks. Any idea on how I can install BMM through the fastboot commands? I cant seem to find a guide to this in the forum...
Thanks again for all the help...

Hi,
I'm still looking for a way to install BMM through fastboot, would appreciate any lead on this...
Is there a chance that I already have it installed, or that it is related with my issues? since I had PA 3.15 prior to the problems that I'm facing now.

BMM is an app. You don't flash it with fastboot, you just install it like any other app, or you could probably push it to your phone using ADB.

Ahhh.... I don't know how this happened, but my phone was sitting dead all week, and I just tried turning it on, and it did! with the screen ON and everything, and it booted the AT&T ICS firmware somehow.
I have a strong feeling that it won't last, because it happened one time before, that it came to life, but after a couple of hours it died again.
I installed BMM through the regular Play store procedure, in case it dies again, maybe the BMM can help me rescue it.
In case any of these makes sense to anyone - an international atrix 2 that managed to boot AT&T ICS Firmware - I would appreciate any suggestion on how to keep it alive.

You need install an International Firmware (Not ATT) MB865 or ME865. But you need fix cdt.bin first.
So you need execute the bat file, inside the attachment, with your phone in FastBoot mode. As another user said it's a dangerous process, but i should work. Althought always there is a possibility that it won't. :/
Then You need flash the international Firmware, I think it's a process that you know, but just in case...
You need 3 things:
The firmware (ICS 4.0.4): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1934874
RSD Lite: http://fwteam.grupoandroid.com/OTAs/RSDLite6.1.5.zip
and Drivers: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_detail/a_id/78863/p/30,6720,8109
About firmware: You can install the five first if you are very sure that your phone is not AT&T. In my experience the ME are more FASTER than MB, but I love my native language ESPAÑOL, and the spanish language of ME is not complete. So I recommend you MB865 Version: 6.7.2_EDEM-18-ASIAOPS It works very well for me XD.
Later of download firmware, install RSD Lite and drivers What you need to do is:
Connect the phone to PC
Turn off the phone and then press the volumen +, volumen - and power button, the three at the same time.
Then, you select AP Fastboot.
Open RSD Lite and click the three points (...) and select the firmware downloaded
Click Decompress only wait and...
Click Start button and wait...
Obviously in the proccess do not disconnect the phone. And you need 50-60% of battery at least.
It takes about 10 minutes aprox and the first boot takes another 10 minutes. All you need to do is wait until your phone ask you to SELECT A LANGUAGE.
I hope this can help you.
Bye
Wow, Thanks for all the help.
Currently my phine just works somehow with the at&t firmware...
But he dies again I'll try using your script.

You MUST erase the cdt.bin first, it will try and do a match of what you are trying to flash and what you already have on the partition, especially since you flashed the at&t firmware, it is locked down so tight.
How to erase the cdt.bin with fastboot commands:
1) put your phone in fastboot mode
2) connect your USB cable to your computer
3) open your command prompt (cmd.exe, from the run prompt)
4) cd to the directory that your SDK and fastboot commands are located in, it may be different from my example below, so be aware if/where you have them
5) Run the following from the command line of your OS (assuming windows here, but if you have linux or mac os X, then you should know how to do command line )
Code:
cd \"Program Files"\"Android SDK"\platform-tools\
fastboot erase cdt.bin
6) Try and run the other script that will change your cdt.bin
**NOTE: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU KILL YOUR PHONE, YOU CHOSE TO ATTEMPT THIS AT YOUR OWN FREE WILL!!!
I tried that, it returns:
erasing 'cdt.bin'...
(bootloader) Command restricted
FAILED (remote: )
Do you know any way around that?
Thanks again for trying to help me.

u tried to flash miui? thats not even for rsd
Was you stock 2.3.5, 2.3.6 or on the ics leak before trying to fxz?
Sent from my MB865 using xda app-developers app
Please search!
Ok, so this is how you fix your issue:
If you want to flash the MiUI ROM you NEED TO BE ON ICS (4.0.4) FIRST!
If you are on Gingerbread (2.3.5 or 2.3.6) the install the ICS leak for YOUR CARRIER.
There are a couple of different types of ICS leaks out there depending on your carrier, install the proper one for your phone.
Once you get on ICS the MiUI ROM is installed the BOOTMENU NOT RSD LITE. It's not even the right file type for RSD lite.
I will not give links as you can find them your self with the search bar. I would personally advise against the MiUI ROM as it is VERY buggy right now, and honestly man, if you don't know what I'm talking about you SHOULDN'T BE MESSING WITH YOUR PHONE.
Especially if you were trying to flash the damn thing through RSD lite... for pete's sake.
READ. SEARCH. RESEARCH.
THEN REPEAT.
+1 well put and agreed.

One thing that I've found...be sure that your USB cable is plugged directly into the computer, and not into a hub. I can do everything through a hub with mine EXCEPT fxz back to stock...and so when I tried and it stuck on the same step that you're on, I (and pretty much everyone else that I asked) was stumped. With all the crap that I tried, it really was something that easy, and yeah, I'll admit it: dumb. There really is a reason that tech support people ask dumb questions to start off with.
I've tried everything but I can not friends.

Not doable sir, even using moto-fasboot flash radio radio.img" adb command??
Thanks
Guys you can flash a radio image with moto-fastboot just fine, but I will tell you that you can ONLY use the radio images that come with the fxz, you will ONLY flash the radio file from there. You unfortunately do not have too may choices though, only the radio from 2.3.5, or 2.3.6, or 4.04 since those are the ONLY FXZs that we have. What you can not do is make your own radio files and flash them, like on other phones. If you are in another part of the world with a US AT&T phone and you flash another region's radio files, your phone will likely have no signal, so be careful to ONLY use radios meant for your version and region.

No, that will likely cause a bootloop/softbrick. You must use official radio.img files as they are signed by moto. You can find out what firmware the other a2 is running and try and download that fxz and flash just that radio.img file so that it is the same as the other atrix2. No guarantees if that phone is a different version say international vs ATT, though.
i flashed radio of indian A2 ICS on ATT hardware .....
but didnt find any improvement in signal (which was affecting my 4G->Edge shifting in auto mode)

Where can I get the official radio files for this device? maybe can post the step by step guide to do that?
Im on official ICS.

fist you need to go http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138092 download moto fastboot win 32 (the one at the very bottom) unzip it to the root of your hard drive ( C:/ ) then put the attached radio image inside that folder, power off your phone and turn it on by pressing power button and vol down keys, this will take you into fastboot, plug your phone to your pc, open a comand prompt inside moto-fastboot folder (right click while holding shift) and type
moto-fastboot flash radio radio.img
this will take like 2 secs then type exit, unplug your phone, pull battery, turn it on normally, there will be a dead android with a triangle comming out of his chest, press power button and it will power on normally
remember to have updated motorola drvers installed (google arround on a how to) , and use one of the back panel usb ports

I flash the radio use my unlock code and no luck with it, maybe other radio file to try? or a link for a list of radios that can I use? thanks.
personally I don't believe that changing radios would help, if it doesn't helped the first time it wouldn't work on further attempts , but if it does http://db.tt/7cnJSKpT those are numerous radio images from several ics retail firmwares (thanks firmware team) if that don't work i don't know what can you do

Thanks bro for you concern actually I call today to AT&T just to be sure that I have the correct code, they told me that my phone doesn't have a unlock code and it will just work on AT&T , so I think I get a really nice media player.

Already ask 3 sellers in eBay and they will provide me the same code one guy told me that I have a corrupted sim lock data. Don't know what it means they mention that the only solution is using a cable no more detail
Ok so when we fxz does it reflash radio.img thru rsd light or do we have to tell it thru fast boot commands. I get random reboots when it says that the radio has no signal. Lol. Driving me nuts. After it gets. Done booting it will be fine as long as it says radio is working. But it will reboot until it does.

i have a motorola atrix 2 at&t(MB865).my phone was 2.3.6
1. I try to flash this firmware 5.5.1-EDEM-28-37-MEARET_cfc.xml.zip from this site http://sbf.droid-developers.org/edison/list.php with rsd.at 7/20 rsd was writting fail.i tried again with same result.after this my phone had problem with boot.the only method for boot was "vol down"+"vol up"+"power" and after i was pressing "Normal powerup".after all these my phone booted normal and worked normal.
2.after i flashed the Blur_Version.55.13.25.MB865.ATT.en.US.zip (ics) from this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1779968 and my phone was working normal but with the same problem with the boot.
3.after i tried to use this utillity http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1805975 .this process had some failure and after this my phone is unable to boot.
with "vol down"+"vol up"+"power" i can choose normal power up, but phone stucks at boot image.in addition i can choose recovery and phone boots at recovery mode.i choose to update from sd with this file Blur_Version.55.13.25.MB865.ATT.en.US.zip but my phone writes that its unable to flash this.
4.after i try to flash InlineFlashing_edison_5.5.175.16_cfc_p3_APBP_CID28 5.zip with rsd.the rsd wrote fail at 3/20 in addition i use the replace.zip with the same result.
5.after i try again the 3rd step with same results.
can anyone help me?
This whole mess started when you tried to flash MEARET firmware on your AT&T phone. NEVER mix firmware!
And trying recovery at this point is not going to work, as the ICS zip is just a large patch file for 2.3.6. And since it failed on the fxz, a portion of your system is missing so ICS won't install. You need to fxz back.
What step is the script falling at? A screenshot would be helpful.
And for the future, please post questions in the Q&A form.

Yes the script from step three is what's going to save you here.
But we need to know where it's failing at.

Well I hate to tell you man. But you are soft bricked until we find an fxz for ICS.
Recovery and cdrom are failing because cdt.bin isn't flashing. And we haven't found a fix for this yet.
Although the strange thing is that this shouldn't be happening on the first leak... but it is...
So you're bricked mate.

ok, i will wait.
thanks.
but please explain to me.i had a motorola a1200 and a siemens sx1.when i flashed a firmware, all the flash memory erased and new data wrote at flash.if i had bootloader, all was fine.the only method to brick a phone was to replace the battery when flash the bootloader(or flash false bootloader).
at A2, why when i write a new bootloader and new mbr(and partition table?) is necessary to flash the same or newer edition of firmware?this is because bootloader is locked?
i thought when i flash a new firmware, all the flash memory erased and writes new data(at the begining the bootloader, after mbr with partition table, after the image(i think this is the kernel of linux) and all other the data)

If you did the OTA ICS update you WILL NOT be able to flash the FXZ back. We have no way out of this right now. And if you are bootlooping or stuck on the splash screen then you are bricked. Sorry mate.

Whiteboi, thanks for your consideration of others but PLEASE, research before you try to help others. For one thing, he is on an MB865 AT&T phone and therefore MUST download the firmware for an AT&T phone. The international versions of the A2 are completely different, including radio, WiFi and the like. NEVER mix firmwares.
Also, he already flashed international firmware which is what got him into this predicament in the first place. He also installed the OTA update for ICS for which there is NO GOING BACK. Read the threads I gave him and educate yourself man.
I applaud you generosity, but if he wasn't already bricked, your advice would have surely/quite possibly bricked him. Be careful man.

Yeah man, if you OTA'd to ICS then I can almost guarantee it will fail at step 3 of the flash process which is the cdt.bin. If you are using the script it will also fail on the recovery portion and the cdrom portion. These are both because of the cdt.bin As of right now, we have no fix for this. Once again, this is the reason we are recommending people to ONLY use the first leak, and not OTA to ANYTHING unless it's 2.3.6 GB. Once again, reference the links I sent you.
You're bricked sir.
Until we find an ICS fxz. Which might be A LONG TIME.
Time to get a replacement/new phone.

Thnx lkrasner for quick reply. I tried to take ota update, stuck in android is upgrading for half an hour, restarted the phone , did factory reset and wipe cache . stuck in M logo. I tried this 5 times. I can easily go back to gb of any region but cannot be upgraded by any means always soft brick.
I'm stuck in gb for more than 1 months.
3 days ago I tried to upgrade to ics leak cheesecake, searet one, it booted fine, but camera didn't work. So i restarted the phone and then the phone stuck in m logo. Within 1 month time i've tried every way and only 1 time it booted to ics and when i tried the same method next time it was soft brick.
Next is can we have stock ics kernel like other device do? How can i extract kernel from firmware zip folder. It is very easy in other decice but couldnot find kernel.img in any firmware.

You cannot flash a kernel on this device, which is why you cannot just fxz to ICS. it odes all these security checks in the upgrade. Not sure why that fails, but half an hour is not that long for it to hang, I remember mine taking at least an hour to finish.
My guess is, since you flashed different firmwares other than the specific one for your phone, something might be screwed up.
Give it to service and ask them to fix it.
If they can't make it, they might give you another phone. ( under warranty)

Just a thought:If you can get to the ICS leak 1 successfully, you should try OTA'ing from there as it will take you to the official ICS and hopefully everything will work from there.
BTW did you remove any bloatware or in any way modify any system files?coz that is the primary reason for OTA to fail.
Also check out the last_log file in cache/recovery,it might throw some insight as to what is causing the update to fail.

Are you sure???
Coz many have followed the fxz route when the update via other methods failed.
And technically why wouldn't the fxz work it will flash the new bootloader which is the main hurdle and other things.
Any insights as to why specifically can't we fxz from GB to ICS.

Hey guys!
Was trying to solve the restart loop problem by installing a MIUI rom, but I am now stuck on this screen that says..
Stuck on AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S) (Boot Failure)
Battery OK
OK to Program
Transfer Mode:
USB Connected
Invalid CG OTV(CG: webtop): Invalid SP Data
Invalid CG Version (CG: webtop)
Invalid CG OTV (CG: webtop)
Any thoughts or help would be highly appreciated
Did you find the proper fxz for your base firmware and flash it?
Need more info about where you are coming from, what you did to get this problem, and what you have tried..
Sent from my MB865 using xda app-developers app
I am not sure what fxz is...but from what I know, it was on 2.3.6 and next update was failing and it was restarting..so I rooted the phone, installed the bootstrap...tried installing miui from there.. it restarted and now I am on that screen...
Have not tried anything else after that... I was looking around and it seems, I should flash something from fastboot mode? I am currenty downloading the ics fastboot files... planing to use RSD lite to install it...
Is that right approach?
Thanks for your help through...much appreciated.
EDIT: Its an AT&T Atrix 2 if that helps..
So, you were on 2.3.6? The 4.0.4 update failed?
If so, then you should probably be using the 2.3.6 fxz/sbf/fastboot/firmware files - flash those to go back to stock GB, then ota update to ICS the normal way (unless returning to GB is important to you - if so, find ICS leak #1 and install that instead of the ota update after restoring stock 2.3.6).
And yea, you need to be on ICS base to install miui (unless there's a GB version I didn't know about).
Sent from my MB865 using xda app-developers app
Edit: you seen this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32113181
Links to the att-us 2.3.6 and 4.0.4 fastboot files are there.. Just read carefully and ask if you're not sure.
It's important to know if you were on 2.3.6 or 4.0.4.. and if you just tried to install a new ROM (system only) through custom recovery, or if you flashed something else through fastboot.
I was surely on 2.3.6, but it was not stable and was rebooting quite often ...it was also trying to download the next update, each time the phone was on...but it would just restart before the download could ever finish...
I rooted the phone after that, installed bootstrap.apk to get into clockwork recovery, then tried installing the MIUI which was based on 4.xx something .... but that failed and I got stuck in that screen....
So, basically, I should download AT&T 2.3.6
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/edison/InlineFlashing_edison_5.5.175.25_cfc_p3_APBP.xml.zip
use fastboot and follow these steps?
Fastboot erase system
Fastboot erase userdata
Fastboot update romfilename.zip
Fastboot reboot
OR
Try to use RSD lite instead?
One more problem though...I tried using the fastboot erase system command...and it tells me Battery low...
I have the phone on charger now, but the Fastboot screen comes up again and I am not sure if it will charge this way?
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.
You need to charge somehow (wall charger, macgyver method, another battery, friend's phone, at&t store, etc).. It doesn't charge in fastboot mode.
Then try RSD lite..
Otherwise, you would need to use moto-fastboot commands. See the files in the zip package here for examples (you can look at the .bat files for the proper commands): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36834775&postcount=108

So it just reboots at random? Or it boots to Fastboot mode everytime?
If it's random reboots, you might have a hardware issue in your phone.. And you could ask AT&T for a replacement (they will most likely just give you a new Atrix HD since our A2 has been EOL'd).
If it boots straight to fastboot everytime, then there's something else.. not sure what, but I have seen others post of that issue.

You did go back to stock 2.3.6 (the fxz should have flashed all stock images/files)... but if your cid is gone (not positive though that that is your problem), there's no getting it back (it is specific to each device).
You could try forcing the update to 4.0.4 by following this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1779968 - but not sure it will install the update if it can't recognize your phone. You are sure it is an AT&T phone, right?
Unless some other members here have some ideas, not sure what else to try... except calling AT&T for a replacement if you bought it under contract. Just tell them that an over-the-air update failed and the phone keeps rebooting..
So, I wonder, did the OTA update start installing, then fail (a while after installation started)? Maybe that messed things up.. Usually, if it fails right away at the beginning of installation during the system checks, then it should be no issue.. But if it was interrupted later during the install, then that can cause major issues.
