[Q] Can't Connect to PC with USB - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I have just come back from a 2 week journey and my phone no longer is recognized by my pc.
I've uninstalled the USB drivers and reinstalled.
I've tried on multiple USB ports
I've tried multiple cables
I've tried multiple PC's
And of course I've rebooted everything multiple times.
I am on CleanRom 6.0R2
During the trip the the car charger cable got a yank while attached to the phone and ruined the connector on the charger. I replaced the charger with no issues. The phone will charge fine with usb cable attached to my PC. Is there any chance the usb connector on the phone got damaged? Anything else to try?
Thanks for your help.

It is possible it is damaged. Only other thing I know is to hook to USB then boot into download mode while it is connected. Had to do on Win 8 couple of times. It will try to refresh drivers from phone side.

I know it is a silly question, but I never used Odin to root to begin with, so I've never been in download mode. I know to use Volume Down + Home + Power button to get into download mode. But what will happen after this without Odin on the PC?

Nothing. But it may try to load drivers to pc. I have got my usb ports to work doing that on Win 8. Phone has drivers also but that is how you force it to push to PC. Make sure usb debugging is on also before going to download mode. Worth a shot.

So when it says "Downloading... Do not turn off Target!!"
What am I waiting for? When and how do I reboot?

It's already done what it gonna do if anything. Hold down power button for about 20 seconds it should reboot. If not pull batter and then reboot.

Wow. That actually worked - PC recognizes the phone now. I must admit that I was very skeptical - but desperate to try anything. Thanks a million.

HaHa. This different thread. Don't know how this one was fixed but dog bit last one. Probably got bent and broke a wire inside.

You could always try to mount usb via recovery to make sure as well.

That's a pretty vague question. Can you flesh it out with a few more details?

yeah just had this headache of a problem. I was making the situation much more complicated then really needed to be. Long story short, i have about a billion micro usb cables laying around the house. What i didnt know, was, that not all cables are data capable. So when you plug it into the computer, it only charges, instead of giving the option of data transfer. I dont know if this helps you, but i hope so!
You can try a few things.
1) Try another cable
2) Try another computer
- i noticed sometimes windows take a few more seconds to recognise the mass storage
3) My wife's Optimus Black is unable to connect via USB, because it was rooted. If yours is rooted, perhaps you might want to un-root the phone and try.

Problem rooting the tablet

I've been having some trouble with my TF101. It started with the charger that simply stopped charging. Tried putting on the freezer and a bunch of other stuff but nothing helped. I've then tried to use a tool - Ai Charger - that changes the voltage of the PC's USB port so I could charge it just like the charger.
But the PC couldn't recognize the tablet as a USB device, probably because of no USB mass storage. So I decided to go back to stock to see if it helped. It didn't. And now I'm stuck with the TF101 using stock ICS and I desperately want to go back to Megatron 1.1.6, but I have no root, and no way to USB it into my computer to root it.
Any suggestions on how do I get root back?

I'm pretty sure the AI device thing does not trick the TF101 into charging. If you turn on USB debugging does it detect anything?

Absolutely nothing. It does charge the device at an unbelievably slow pace when it is turned off. Like, two entire days for a full recharge.
I just tried this one-click rooting and I got no success: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1681155

Have you try to use another cable?
I was there once, pulling all my white hair, everything solved after using new cable. Now I can go back and forth from various ICS and JB.

Yeah, I'm guessing this is really the issue. There was one time since the beginning of this post that my PC recognized the tablet and started installing the drivers for it. Guess I'm gonna order a new cable and test it. Thanks for the help, guys.
And to get root I recommend this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1689193
It can root almost all TF101, in a very simple way

[Q] No USB?

My Infuse does not show the notification for USB in the notification drawer when I plug it into any computer with any cable. When I have it in CWM it also does not connect when I force it to mount USB storage.
I've got a phone upgrade coming up the Sunday after this one. Note 2 time? Or wait for the SGS4? orrrrrrrrrr something else?
no usb

I had the same thing happen to me. Currently on Scotts jb cm10. Tried to remount in recovery as you with no luck as well. Finally put my phone in download mode with a dongle, pulled battery, rebooted, and then was ok again...never happened before, new build coming out in a few minutes, hopefully will not see it again.
Question..
Does it charge when you plug it in?
Its powered by Jellybeaned AOKP!

It does so very... sketchily? I don't know a word for it. The chargers have to be in the right position or it doesn't work.

That's the thing. I can't get into download mode because my phone thinks I'm plugging the AC charger in and I don't have a jig..
Edit: Did download mode from the power button menu and it didn't change anything.
Try different cables, as I'm sure that you're aware, not all cables are created equal.
Try wiggling the end that plugs into your phone ever so gently.
Sounds like the USB port is bad.. that's a well known problem with this device unfortunately..
Its powered by Jellybeaned AOKP!
I had the same problem, cwm red wouldn't connect, had to go to blue.
Given that you're having charging issues as well, this does seem like a hardware issue. If another cable doesn't do the trick, then as has already been said, it's probably the port.
As for your upgrade question, I personally would wait for the S4 unless your current phone totally borks out beforehand.

phone won't connect to windows 7

Hey,
Just bought a (used) One S. Trying to go through the process of root/unlock but hit a snag very early on.
The phone will not connect to my computer. I plug in the cord to the computer, then the other end to the phone. It just keeps connecting and disconnecting. Windows 7 recognised thephone as the One S before d/cing
I have tried front and rear usb ports on my computer. I have tried usb 3 ports, i have tried my usb/esata combo ports. Same damn thing.
I factory reset the phone, no luck. I have installed sdk manager. Phone charges normally. EDIT: Phone currently DOES NOT have SIM card inserted.
Any more info needed? Just ask.
Have you tried a different cable?
Or installing the drivers.

Since he described the error as "constant connect/disconnect" the drivers wont help.
It indicates that something is wrong with the connection between the PC and device, such as faulty cable, faulty USB port etc.

Thanks for your help. Drivers were installed. I guess it turns out the usb port on the phone is a bit finicky. I have to plug the cord and secure it on just the right angle or it will not stay connected. Thanks for all the suggestions!!! Now i have a new problem....BUSYBOX will not install feel free to hop over to that thread if you are feeling EXTRA helpful today

Have you tried to change the the "usb mtp" from notification area?
Change it to "File Transfer" or "Picture" to force PC connection.

Sounds like you're using a power-only cable. Might try other USB cables, especially the one the phone came with.

Could also be the PC is not recognizing as a USB device. I forget how to get Win10 to start looking for USB devices again, but recommend you Google variants of "windows 10 does not recognize my USB device". (Shortest: "windows 10" and USB and autodetect")
I fixed this once, forget how.

Of coarse I am going to ask all the same obvious stuff So you have tried different cables have you tried to make sure there is no trach in the usb type c ends? Also try booting to safe mode and a factory reset of coarse back up with sammy cloud first it does good about restoring most stuff.....
Only other things is drivers again and try other usb ports as well as a different PC.
My be defective device also
By chance does anything come up in device manager?

That could also be if the S8+ has its USB setting to be (for example) Power only.
