Problem rooting the tablet - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been having some trouble with my TF101. It started with the charger that simply stopped charging. Tried putting on the freezer and a bunch of other stuff but nothing helped. I've then tried to use a tool - Ai Charger - that changes the voltage of the PC's USB port so I could charge it just like the charger.
But the PC couldn't recognize the tablet as a USB device, probably because of no USB mass storage. So I decided to go back to stock to see if it helped. It didn't. And now I'm stuck with the TF101 using stock ICS and I desperately want to go back to Megatron 1.1.6, but I have no root, and no way to USB it into my computer to root it.
Any suggestions on how do I get root back?

I'm pretty sure the AI device thing does not trick the TF101 into charging. If you turn on USB debugging does it detect anything?

Absolutely nothing. It does charge the device at an unbelievably slow pace when it is turned off. Like, two entire days for a full recharge.
I just tried this one-click rooting and I got no success: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1681155

Tried another cable?

Have you try to use another cable?
I was there once, pulling all my white hair, everything solved after using new cable. Now I can go back and forth from various ICS and JB.

Yeah, I'm guessing this is really the issue. There was one time since the beginning of this post that my PC recognized the tablet and started installing the drivers for it. Guess I'm gonna order a new cable and test it. Thanks for the help, guys.

And to get root I recommend this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1689193
It can root almost all TF101, in a very simple way

Whenever I plug it into my computer, all it does is charge my phone... I tried multiple USB ports, none of them work, all of them just charge my phone... Help?
EDIT:

same thing pretty much, but with a stock rom.
about a week ago my phone would not charge from an outlet very well, it was like i didnt even have it plugged in, it's gotten worse since then...
when i was able to get it to charge from a wall outlet it would go into usb mode, and that was if i was lucky.
now it wont even charge from a wall outlet and i have to charge it from my computer.
i would try to update my phone to the new 2.3 version but my computer wont recognize my phone, i keep getting an error message saying "One of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it."
i've tried to put it in kies mode and debugging mode and the rest of the modes allowed but still nothing.
i did a factory reset and it still does the same thing(and i lost EVERTHING on my phone but my contacts)
any ideas??

I have the exact same problem. I have tried installing Kiesmini, the samsung usb drivers directly and tried on mac and pc with different cables.
The cables function normally with blackberry's and samsung galaxy ace but the infuse refuses is not recognized by the pc. also the phone does not recognize that it is connected which usually shows a prompt for USB.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I am on 2.2.1 stock Froyo and I am unable to root because of not having connectivity to usb through the computer for Superoneclick to recognize. Also, i tried z4root several times to no avail.

Infuse 4g USB problem

When I plug my USB cable into my computer and then into my phone the phone does not recognize the computer and vice versa. It will charge, but that is it. A few weeks ago I tried an AOKP rom which has "fast charge" I set this setting to be on to test it out and then turned it off. Ever since then I have not been able to transfer files with the cable plugged in, so I used AirDroid to wirelessly do it. I remember something in the warning about it, but I thought when you format/wipe and flash a new rom it corrects the issue. I have flashed a completely new rom since then and still nothing. Any help would be nice, thanks.
Try going back to stock through Odin or heimdal

How are you supposed to Odin/heimdall, if it doesn't connect even during download mode?

Lol didn't think of that...when I had my infuse I had the same problem with the stock USB cable...after a while data transfer stopped and it became a charge only cable...I would use my dads cable that worked perfect for data transfer...
So try a different USB cord or try a different USB port...

You can try this too
Hi, I faced this issue few times and tried several options like change cable/port/computer and worked.
One thing Recently i noticed when all of the above failed in my case is :- 1 Development->Uncheck the USB debug mode, 2. Check Mass Storage in USB connection setting. ( you need to unplug usb cable while doing it)
Now try connecting and give few minutes. If you can see the USB mass storage notification you are good to go. Go back and change the Debug mode as Checked.
It worked for me couple of times hope it may work for you too.

Sounds like the dreaded USB port failure. Many Infuse users have gone through this as its a known issue. I returned mine and got a replacement via warranty.

Hey There,
We had the same issue with many units and solved all by doing the following:
-Flashing the unit back to stock
-Performing a factory data reset after flashing(This is a must)
Note: Even though your device will not connect to the computer in PDA mode you should still be able to connect in download mode so it can be flashed with ODIN.(Unless if it's hardware related)

[Q] Help Rooting TF101 First Time

Well...my wife's transformer is incredibly slow and she is giving me permission finally to root it. However I have had difficulty doing so because the charging/interface port on the tablet has issues. A while ago the port stopped charging the tablet. We have multiple chargers for that tablet and nothing will charge it via that port. The only way she can charge it is by plugging it into the keyboard dock and charging the dock. Therefore when I try to plug the tablet into the computer so that I can forego the root process the computer will not recognize it.
So my question is.....can this tablet be rooted by downloading files to it and not need a tablet to PC interface? Or, can the tablet be plugged into the dock and interface with the PC somehow? I looked through all the rooting methods I could find and all of them required a tablet to PC interface.
Unfortunately you need a computer USB connection to root it. There was only 1 firmware (8.6.5.19) that could be rooted without a PC. In order to downgrade, you need a computer as well.
I have been able to root mine using the dock charging port. I just booted to APX mode (VOL UP and POWER).
I wrote a guide on how to root here: http://www.transformerforums.com/fo...t/31927-frederuco-s-guide-root-rom-tf101.html
If the dock is charging the tablet surely the issue must be with charger/cable ive had issues with tf101 cable before, mine would slow charge at rate that was bearly noticable, and the tablet didn't show a charging icon, but the cable did allow a data connection still. If infact it is your tf101 thats the issue root will be out of the question but i belive the stock kernel can be overclocked with an overclocking app which might help a bit.

One would think cause that is the most logical explanation. However, I have tried 3 cables (one the original and other 2 brand new ones) and 2 different OEM power supplies and one that I made which has the proper output ratings and none will charge the tablet. However, all of them will charge the dock. The only way to get the tablet to charge is by plugging into the dock. I know it uses the same port and I am clueless as to why one charges and the other doesn't on the same port. All I know is that is what is going on.
The only problem I ever had with flashing while docked was flashing Ubuntu. But I always flash while docked, so that shouldn't be an issue.
I just flashed back to stock, then re-rooted (wanted a TWRP backup of rooted stock) using the OEM cable via the dock charging port.
No issues here.

[Q] Can't Connect to PC with USB

I have just come back from a 2 week journey and my phone no longer is recognized by my pc.
I've uninstalled the USB drivers and reinstalled.
I've tried on multiple USB ports
I've tried multiple cables
I've tried multiple PC's
And of course I've rebooted everything multiple times.
I am on CleanRom 6.0R2
During the trip the the car charger cable got a yank while attached to the phone and ruined the connector on the charger. I replaced the charger with no issues. The phone will charge fine with usb cable attached to my PC. Is there any chance the usb connector on the phone got damaged? Anything else to try?
Thanks for your help.

It is possible it is damaged. Only other thing I know is to hook to USB then boot into download mode while it is connected. Had to do on Win 8 couple of times. It will try to refresh drivers from phone side.

I know it is a silly question, but I never used Odin to root to begin with, so I've never been in download mode. I know to use Volume Down + Home + Power button to get into download mode. But what will happen after this without Odin on the PC?

Nothing. But it may try to load drivers to pc. I have got my usb ports to work doing that on Win 8. Phone has drivers also but that is how you force it to push to PC. Make sure usb debugging is on also before going to download mode. Worth a shot.

TF101 not detected, not even in APX

Hi, my TF101 died some time ago and the other day i changed the motherboard and it came back to life.
The problem now is that is not detected by any pc when connected via usb, not even in APX mode.
The usb cable works fine, it charges the tablet but nothing else. Tried a couple of cables, pcs, macs, usb debugging on/off, etc.....
Now it is in stock 4.0.3 and i cannot find a way to root it.
Any idea what can i do to root it?
Thanks!
Anyone? Having stock android is very painfull.... Need help!

Have you double checked everything is plugged in correctly on the board you replaced ?
Cna't remember off hand how to root without USB on stock ICS, but check transformerforums.com - there are a guides on rooting ICS, you might find something
I would look at the USB issue though, maybe just taking the thing apart and connecting it all back up will sort it, could just be a loose connection

Yea i thought about that but if the tablet is charging then the connections are ok, as it's the same flex that connects the port to the mb. Right?

Well it's the same one, but different pins, sometimes people find they can charge but not connect to USB, but a replacement cable fixes the problem
Worth checking imo
My 2 year old original cable still charges but does not work for USB connections. Had to get a new cable. New one works perfectly well.
