Samsung Galaxy S4 Samsung Keyboard Auto Correct - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 General

I have an AT&T Samsung Galaxy s4 and have a problem with the default samsung Keyboard that comes on board. Is there anyway to get the keyboard to autocorrect after pressing the space bar as takes place on the iPhone and other downloadable android keyboards. I really love the look and the feel of the keyboard but I hate not having autocorrect. It makes typing without swype a hassle. I have done some research and discovered some threads that are saying that this auto correct feature can be enabled somehow through the settings menu. Does anyone know if this is true or if only some models have this capability such as the international version of the phone. I've had problems with the Samsung Keyboard dating back from the days of the S3 and I was hoping they added this feature to this model especially with their partnership with SwiftKey. Please let me know if this is a lost cause for the At&t model of the phone.

I would love to see if copying a non US Samsung keyboard can eventually open up auto correct features as was attempted in this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2278618
However we can blame Apple Vs. Samsung for disabling our auto correct. It really annoys me because I did rely on it on my former phone(I really enjoy the stock keyboard). But alas I guess we will have to learn to proof read.
Hopefully Samsung's appeal or the new infringment case that now specifically names the GS4 will be a victory and fix this for us.
In the meantine English teachers are rejoicing. The US Patent office is sucking and Apple is a bully.

I do not understand. How many other phones have autocorrect built into them. For god sakes the Nexus which is Google's flagship phone has auto correct built-in. Windows phones and BlackBerry have autocorrect built in and they are actually boasting about how good their autocorrect is. Then comes Samsung Galaxy phones sense galaxy s3 and the note 2 we have been deprived off autocorrect in the stock Samsung keyboard! This is ridiculous. I don't know how this lawsuit has been going on so long but Samsung really needs to violate whatever temporary order there is and provide its customers with auto correct because there is nothing beneficial about having a pretty keyboard with all these beautiful features that is rendered useless because Auto Correct is not an available option. I'm sorry but I refuse to proofread when other phones out there don't require me to.

I certainly agree. Lol

On other devices like S3 and Note 2 the international keyboard was easily ported over.
You know this makes me wonder, if we flash a i9505 ROM would auto correct work?
Hmm.

Really I hate the Samsung 's keyboard even Sony has a better default keyboard. So I use swift keyboard.
It's just a comment.

Just download SwiftKey. It's way better.

While I do like the Samsung keyboard, I am giving SwiftKey a whirl. I'm fact typing this from it now.
It seems promising. And of course the auto correct is there. I'll give it a few weeks on the trial and see how I feel.

I currently am using SwiftKey but it's not as nice as the Samsung Keyboard. Don't get me wrong the autocorrect is awesome but I thought samsung said that SwiftKey is powering it's samsung Keyboard? And everyone knows that SwiftKey is known for its autocorrect so what's the point of the partnership if samsung isn't offering autocorrect! Also I hate using SwiftKey when I have to enter usernames and passwords. It can't differentiate the various fields and ends up putting spaces after periods and such so it gets annoying.

Blame Apple, for suing Samsung. They believe they own "autocorrect."

Someone needs to tell Apple that they need to join some other companies to the litigation! Why is Samsung the only smartphone company facing this problem. For god sakes BlackBerry's primary selling point is their damn amazing autocorrect.

Me personally I love the stock Samsung keyboard. I've tried them all from the Play Store and always come back to Sammy's keyboard. I'm coming from a Galaxy Note 2 so I was thrilled that they added the numbers on top row with the S4. But if they don't get this autocorrect feature thing settled with Apple I might be forced to go to a different keyboard, witch for me will be a total bummer... so hope they get this issue resolved soon

This dude got it working:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2300382
But the autocorrect lags.

I uninstalled Swiftkey today. That was the worst auto correct I have ever seen. I tried using all it had to offer but it just could not auto correct right for me. I must be too hard for it to learn. Good for some people but not for me.
I generally have fat finger problems. The Samsung keyboard seems better able to get the letters right.
My former HTC phone did a good job as much as I didn't like the Sense experience. I saw a discussion on porting over the One keyboard. I might follow that as well as continue to watch if the samsung keyboard can be figured out.
Hopefully something will work out for my fat fingers. But then I am getting used to proof reading. *shudder*
Edit* Just saw this after I posted. Not sure how I missed it besides not reading.... I'm going to take a look at it.

Google separated and released the Android keyboard in the play store for 4.0 and higher devices. Its called Google Keyboard. Complete with Autocorrect.
Installed and I am happy.

I've gone ahead and installed the Google keyboard seems pretty awesome wish it had the dedicated number row though... The buttons seem a bit larger than the Sammy ones, maybe cause its meant to work well with phones with smaller screens as well.

[DISCUSSION] Why is everyone hating on Samsung phones?

I never owned one, and even now I'm a big supporter of Samsung and their products. I owned their mp3 (YP-P2) and it's simply amazing. I own two of their LCD monitors as well and also a laser printer, and they are all working perfectly.
So why so much hate on the Samsung?
I remember reading this one post of this guy saying never again will he own another Samsung phone from his experience with one of their phones... the Galaxy probably?
because their phones suck
I had a Galaxy S and after being with HTC for my previous Android phones it was like going from a BMW to a Hyundai. Felt like Fisher Price made it.
until you own a Samsung PHONE, you shouldn't even bother posting this...
anyways here's why i hate them
awful gps... my ex galaxy s, now my sisters phone never gor the gps working
feels plastic... it feels like the phone should be half the price, awfully constructed.
i am the only one that thinks that the screen other than having awesome colors and be more vivid... is just not THAT awesome? ( talking galaxy s wise )

I had a samsung clamshell dumbphone, and it was the most solid phone I've ever owned. Sure, the GUI was terrible.. but it worked great otherwise! lol.
I think the simple answer is because you are on the xda forums. Many members here (myself included) are very loyal to HTC manufactured phones. It is much like asking why there is so much hate for Dell on an Apple forum. The demographic makeup of the posters will trend towards users with some level of brand loyalty.
Additionally Samsung may or may not have inferior build quality in general, but it is a natural tendency for users to have more negative opinions of products they declined vs ones they chose. It is a subconscious way of enforcing contentment with their decisions.
I am not saying that there are no perfectly valid and real reasons to choose HTC over Samsung, or vice versa. What I am suggesting is that the trend towards negativity is impacted by the demographic of users on the forums.
After having the vibrant and the captivate they both just feel cheap to me and plastic like compared to sprint evo or google G2. I love the feel of a solid phone. Compare the original N1 to the NS by samsung just my to cents.

The G2 out of the box was very good experience, but with CM6 I can't a reason to try anything else. Eventually the Vibrant will get there someday after Samsung and the carriers can get on the same sheet of music.

try a samsung phone, ive hated the two i had for a short while.
The Vibrant was by far the most poorly made device I've ever owned. Cheap plastic, corners cut on design in places that made a huge difference (volume rocker was garbage). It was TOO light, due to the crap material used. Plus, the gps couldn't get a lock no matter how long I waited.
It nearly soured me on android, as it was my first device with this glorious OS. I got tmobile to swap my Vibrant for the G2 (after 40 days lol) and I couldn't be happier.

I'm actually a fan of samsung phones. I don't know why but I've never had that much problems with it that couldn't be solved. Yes it does feel cheap, but I've never had an actual broken phone because of dropping or any other physical harm. This is coming from a previous spica user, an international version of galaxy s (not really mine but I've held it more than the actual owner did..), and now a tab (which does actually feel way better than the previous two).
My friends own htc phones, and while I do admit they feel more solid compared to sammys, I'm contented with my phones already.
The SGS series has too many problems going for it compared to the HTC series, especially on XDA where the HTC community is strong.
Nexus S is a different story though.

Lack of updates only applies to the US carrier devices as the international version of galaxy s was updated to gingerbread before pretty much anyone else. Also this is a nexus device we're discussing here. No matter who the manufacturer is, update will be released on these devices first

Darker colors aren't the only ones to be excited about. Unlike most typical LCD panels which can't support the whole color gamut, amoled panels typically exceed the color gamut support along with other benefits such as overall thinner panel package and power efficiency difference from lack of backlight usage

Convince me the s4 is better than the One.

I was convinced I was getting the one but after doing some reading I considered maybe getting the s4. So I started reading these forums and been reading a lot about lag so that kind of turned me off a little because the one is supposed to be super smooth. I have been with HTC since the Hero and really like them, but wouldn't mind a change. I'm not trying to start an HTC v. Samsung war just trying to hear from both sides of the fence. Any and all insight will be greatly appreciated. I'm waiting for my local store to get a demo model, so I haven't had any hands on yet.

A lot of the reviews suggest to get the One instead. Get whatever is right for you
The laggyness is probably down to that awful touchwiz launcher. I'm sure Nova will be 100% smooth
I have an HTC One S right now. At least for me, the reason I'm going with the Galaxy Series, and in particular the Galaxy S4 over the One is:
A- Removable battery. I just love the convenience of being able to get a full charge within seconds of just popping out my dead battery and putting in a new one.
B- SD card slot. Until internet infrastructure is at a point where you can get consistently high speeds almost everywhere on any carrier, I don't see cloud technology replacing physical storage. It's fast, it's convenient, and it will hold your content, ready for access, even with no connection at all. Of course I'll use Dropbox, but it's more of a long term storage option.
C- Better hardware in the S4 with regard to the processor/RAM.
D- Cool features like Air View/Dual-Recording/Gestures and so on. Whether you consider them gimmicks or not, at least they can be disabled.
E- MOBEAM! I saw this get mentioned on the Endgadget review, and I really want to use it now. It allows your IR blaster on your phone to work with counter top scanners/hand held IR scanners to easily pay for stuff. It also scans coupons/gift cards and saves them.
F- I prefer the Galaxy S4 camera. Seems to be the best when all conditions are considered, although it suffers against the One in low light.
G- I love the saturation and movie watching on AMOLED. It's not for everyone, but it's cool for me. The bigger screen is a plus as well.
Ultimately you should get what feels best for you. I'm moving off HTC and towards the GS4 because it seems better for me. I did also hear of the lag issues in some places, but nothing 3rd party devs/firmware fixes can't handle.
Only reason I needed.

I was having the same dilemma but ended up ordering the GS4 . At the end of the day it does more of the things I care about than the HTC One does.
I think playing with each one before you buy will really help you make up your mind. Things like ergonomics, build quality, screen quality, and software are hard/impossible to experience through a YouTube video.
The One is certainly a well built, attractive device that will probably elicit more "ooos" and aahs" from your friends. I really love the look of the One and the speakers sound fantastic. Sense 5 is very attractive and fluid but has some quirks that would really annoy me on a daily basis.
I chose the GS4 because of the larger screen, microSD card slot, removable battery, slightly stronger vibration (sounds silly but my phone lives on vibrate), as well as some thoughtful software features such as notification toggles and a Wi-Fi based lockscreen.
Those are the things I care about most. Will a small part of me will wonder what the HTC One would have been like, of course! But you need to know what your needs/wants are and see which phone fulfills them best.
Only reason I needed.
Only reason I needed.
...
Sorry, all the good ones have been taken. But really, if you're needing us to convince you to buy the S4, your heart is probably already set on the HTC One. Unless you've gone and posted a "Convince me the One is better than the s4" thread on the One board. In that case, well played.
Decide for yourself ...

Also check out the video quality comparisons the video is great for both but the s4's audio quality is superb. Like 10 times as good.
Also it has a larger screen, and larger battery while also being lighter
If you have to question it after that then get the htc one , its better than apple at least.

Why don't you convince me to get the sgs4 . that way you'll do your own research and form your own opinion if you should choose it or not.

Sorry, all the good ones have been taken. But really, if you're needing us to convince you to buy the S4, your heart is probably already set on the HTC One. Unless you've gone and posted a "Convince me the One is better than the s4" thread on the One board. In that case, well played.

Exactly what I did. In the end I will decide for myself, but I like to get feedback from my fellow xda'ers. Its good to hear both sides before making a final decision. I can't wait to get some hands on with the s4.

That's not our responsibility. Use your resources (the same ones you used to find XDA or anything else on the web), rather than posting a thread that comes off as flame-baiting.
This thread should be put out of its misery.

New update about 288mb sent out that quashed the laggy UI, now S4 is very smooth, i guess first firmware was buggy. Go try it, i hope you get to play with an updated version, if its laggy, go to settings and check software update.
Might be friendlier on the One forums...
Convince yourself to buy an s4. Its not like anybody here actually cares if get one or not anyways...do get one...don't get one. Whatever.

Made an iphone user a believer today.

Have a friend i work with who has a Iphone 5. He hasn't had a Android phone since 2011, which happened to be an Xperia Play . This was basically the phone that gave him his lasting impression of Android. Up until today
We were on break and he saw me using the multi window in conjunction with pen window and goes " what the f*ck. can that do the eye scrolling thing too?" Im like yea. He says " it pauses the video when you look away at it too?" Im like yea. So for the next 10 minutes i showed him action memo, scrapbooker, 4k video, a little Asphalt 8, and S Note. The look on his face after seeing all of this was priceless enough. But then he says "f*ck this ****" and throws his phone (which was in an otterbox) on the ground jokingly. Im not kidding. I say to him "come on man your good with the Iphone 5. i know you want that 5s.) He says "na i need that sh*t in my life."
It has to be one of the most rewarding feelings ever to have that happen lol.
Haha yeah, this is my favorite thing to do. I feel rewarded when I convert people!
Seems like samsungs gimmicky features are almost made for demonstration purposes (whens the last time you used air gesture out of convenience)
The thing that gets iphone users from my experience is the photo sphere, and how you can view them using the gyro.
I remember that in my next demonstration. hehe
hehehe, That because your friend not F IFan.
-Ifan everytime they hold their f phone they all said the best they don't accept world is bigger than they thought.
-I'm an FanDroid, hahaha.

Do you not also attend The Church of Android? Please, feel free to stop by this Sunday. We'll be preaching the good word of Andy Rubin and how he created Android in 7 days.
Cupcake 1:5-
Then Andy Rubin blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

Wooo, you fixed someone that was brainwashed by apple It's always a good thing!
They truly are brainwashed.
After my photosphere demo this guy was trying to convince me that his iph5s panorama feature was better and mine was lacking by not having it.
He was speechless when I showed him we have stock panorama as well as photosphere.
Someone needs to make a 'how to convert an iphone believer' article.
Lol. Thats rich
Try not to bring him here, too much useless negativity here will make him rethink :-/

I have got 4 people at my office to order the note 3 , 2 others to order the S4 and 2 to change over to tmobile, at this point tmobile and Samsung should start paying me a commission
I convinced the guy who sold me my note 3 to get one.
Its always fun to go into a store and spit out more knowledge about the phones in the store than they know about.
He sold his 5 to get a 5s but got the note 3 instead.
Had a similar experience today. Went to find a working Note 3 demo unit at a retail store today. After contently checking out the Note 3 was playing around with iDevices since I was curious how many apps and browser tabs it would take to exhaust the low DRAM they're equipped with and cause memory used by background apps to be cleared thereby forcing a reload upon switching back and losing whatever I was working on. The iPad Mini is particularly bad with only 512MB DRAM where all it took was one browser tab displaying a mobile device review with a lot of comments and Apple maps with 3D enabled where task switching back to the browser caused a reload so if I was in the middle of writing a comment it would've been lost. While testing the same on iPhone 5S another customer wanders over and asks me what I thought of the iPhone 5S (he mentioned he currently owns an iPhone 4 something). While refraining from being critical such as not mentioning the toyish looking iOS 7, copy of Android's drop-down quick-access menu but swipe up and pop-up from bottom instead, non-intuitiveness with double-tapping the home button to task switch when that action is associated with zooming in (Android's long press makes more sense), what I was testing with low DRAM, etc. I merely mentioned that the experience was ok but the screen was too small and that it would be better with a bigger screen. He acknowledged and mentioned he's also looking into the Galaxy S4, I responded by suggesting the kick ass Note 3 but he says he's concerned with getting something too big then I pointed to my front pocket and asked if it looked too big and pulled out the Note 2. Commented that once you go big it's tough to go back. Shortly later I see him with the sales associate in front of the Note 3. Felt I saved a soul.

I'm so dissapointed in andriod

Guys I have im extremely dissapointed in android. And to lesser extend the devs. No offense to anyone but I just had to rant here.
Being a longtime iPhone user I finally found a nice phone that will take me away from iPhone, the nexus 5.
To my absolute shock, there's no CNAP support on these devices. Name display of a number that's not stored in your phone book. Herein Canada rogers and Fido offer this service, which I m subscribed to.
Being a business user its a must have for me. And seeing as how old 10 year old phones support this, I'm absolutely floored android doesn't. The closest thing is if you miss a call you'll see the name but as soon as you click call log it goes back to number
A user last year (on xda) found the fix and posted a patch with website but links are down. No one else, no Dev has fixed it. Its supposedly a really simple fix modding build file or patching frameworks I'm not sure. But I've tried everything. I've flashed 20 different Roms and nothing. A cm9 nightly had it but no longer is it enabled in the newer stuff.
I give up. I'm switching back to iPhone and never looking back. No CNAP on android devices is INSANE, not to mention the lack of a properly integrated visual voicemail. As far as I'm concerned android still a step behind.
Cool story bro
nice to see you go, dont let the door hit you on your way out

Your opinion is your own just as mine is. I find Iphones in general not my cup of tea. I find them bland, boring and way too small. The only thing I think they have going for them is the build materials but aside from that I don't think I could ever classify an iPhone on the same level.
If I were to buy an iPhone it would be used and would be permanently an iPod at my workplace and that's what I think they should be.
By the way I have had an iPhone 3g and iPhone 4s and I won't be going back.

I agree 100% they are small and visually very boring. Thats why i want to jump ship. However when this was an issue for iPhone in 4s it was fixed and was never an issue again.
And for those taking offense sorry to irritate you but my phone is first a phone if basic call features work, then you have issues.

You're missing the point. Phone is on kijiji already. I dont need help anymore. If it cant be fixed in 3 yesrs it wont be. But for a closed minded android users that defend defend defend. Guess what iPhone is better. And next release when the phone is at 5" and they implement solar charging it will be no contest... Again!
Funny how only response to this issue in two weeks is when I say iPhone has it enabled for years.

FYI nexus 5 from sprint has an add-on service for this exact thing. So I think it's more of the carriers stopping this rather than the device lacking the ability.
I might be wrong but who knows. Also what android phone were you using?

Iphone ahead of Android, news to me. I thought that the only OS, that can wake you up and tell you exactly how long to work is ahead of every other. Man you cant even put constant changing weather on your home screen. Emulation on iphone is a joke. No nfc, they just got LTE. Iphone 5s has the same dpi as the iphone 4. Everyone know that the notifications are a thousand times better on Android. I have never had a issue with peoples names not showing during a call, im confused because sync is vetter on Android also?

For someone who's is mocking close minded android users you seem pretty choose minded. iOs is fine and for a lot of users and is what they should stick with. For others it's not for them. We each have a personal choice.

You won't be missed. Not because I hate Apple, I have a mac, but because you have no idea what you're talking about. You can't even spell "Android" right. You said "Andriod". So you're right....Andriod sucks, but Android doesn't.
