[DISCUSSION] Why is everyone hating on Samsung phones? - General Topics

I never owned one, and even now I'm a big supporter of Samsung and their products. I owned their mp3 (YP-P2) and it's simply amazing. I own two of their LCD monitors as well and also a laser printer, and they are all working perfectly.
So why so much hate on the Samsung?
I remember reading this one post of this guy saying never again will he own another Samsung phone from his experience with one of their phones... the Galaxy probably?

because their phones suck
I had a Galaxy S and after being with HTC for my previous Android phones it was like going from a BMW to a Hyundai. Felt like Fisher Price made it.

until you own a Samsung PHONE, you shouldn't even bother posting this...
anyways here's why i hate them
awful gps... my ex galaxy s, now my sisters phone never gor the gps working
feels plastic... it feels like the phone should be half the price, awfully constructed.
i am the only one that thinks that the screen other than having awesome colors and be more vivid... is just not THAT awesome? ( talking galaxy s wise )
touch wiz... awful... just... awful...

The hate is strong in this one.

Quite frankly, because their terrible phones. Plasticky, buggy, laggy, faulty hardware, faulty software and overpriced.

I had a samsung clamshell dumbphone, and it was the most solid phone I've ever owned. Sure, the GUI was terrible.. but it worked great otherwise! lol.

I think the simple answer is because you are on the xda forums. Many members here (myself included) are very loyal to HTC manufactured phones. It is much like asking why there is so much hate for Dell on an Apple forum. The demographic makeup of the posters will trend towards users with some level of brand loyalty.
Additionally Samsung may or may not have inferior build quality in general, but it is a natural tendency for users to have more negative opinions of products they declined vs ones they chose. It is a subconscious way of enforcing contentment with their decisions.
I am not saying that there are no perfectly valid and real reasons to choose HTC over Samsung, or vice versa. What I am suggesting is that the trend towards negativity is impacted by the demographic of users on the forums.

After having the vibrant and the captivate they both just feel cheap to me and plastic like compared to sprint evo or google G2. I love the feel of a solid phone. Compare the original N1 to the NS by samsung just my to cents.

They're cheap they feel and work cheap. The screens are bright but that's it the TWUI is awfull smh. You should read up on what happened with the Behold II. Its complete BS tbh. Plus they just said galaxy S phones may or may not see gingerbread... oxymoron since Nexus S is basicly Galaxy S

Phones are the only thing sammy's not good at. I've always dreamed of having a tv or monitor made by em along with many others I imagine...

I have a G2 and a Vibrant. I happy with both phones, but it took a long time to get the Vibrant to that level. The G2 out of the box was very good experience, but with CM6 I can't a reason to try anything else. Eventually the Vibrant will get there someday after Samsung and the carriers can get on the same sheet of music.

so you just make a worthless comment to someone that says you are wrong...
maybe get a samsung phone first... There are plenty of companys that do some things good...
try a samsung phone, ive hated the two i had for a short while.

The Vibrant was by far the most poorly made device I've ever owned. Cheap plastic, corners cut on design in places that made a huge difference (volume rocker was garbage). It was TOO light, due to the crap material used. Plus, the gps couldn't get a lock no matter how long I waited.
It nearly soured me on android, as it was my first device with this glorious OS. I got tmobile to swap my Vibrant for the G2 (after 40 days lol) and I couldn't be happier.
Sent from my HTC Vision

I'm actually a fan of samsung phones. I don't know why but I've never had that much problems with it that couldn't be solved. Yes it does feel cheap, but I've never had an actual broken phone because of dropping or any other physical harm. This is coming from a previous spica user, an international version of galaxy s (not really mine but I've held it more than the actual owner did..), and now a tab (which does actually feel way better than the previous two).
My friends own htc phones, and while I do admit they feel more solid compared to sammys, I'm contented with my phones already.

The SGS series has too many problems going for it compared to the HTC series, especially on XDA where the HTC community is strong.
Nexus S is a different story though.

I tried the vibrant (first time i left htc android phones) and i was extreamly disapointed just because of that i wouldnt :/ but thats just me
I think the difference here would be the updates would be coming from google not samsung, hardware on my old vibrant was awesome, well except the plastic feel, its software that held it back.
Btw love the look and feel of my mt4g better
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I am. I am a Vibrant owner transitioning to MT4G. Transition has not been smooth: Both handsets I have been sent so far have dust under the screen. Plus I really don't like the MT4G screen...
Only thing is the plastic build, why Samsung?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Hell no! Why would I want to leave what I have now for a plastic feeling phone? Plus, if you ask me its a downgrade. No 4G, really? This is where they lost me. Why build what most will look at as a super phone, but leave out the new speeds in 4G? I rather have 4G over gingerbread any day.
biggest deal breaker for me is no HSPA+
Nobody ever said it didn't come with HSPA+. I doubt that it wouldn't if it is to be such a big hit for them. I also came from a Vibrant and like everyone said, the hardware was great but the software and Samsung support wasn't.
I like the mt4G and I'll stick with it until something more revolutionary comes out. The Nexus S just looks like an iphone wannabe to me (in terms of looks). No thanks.
Yeah...don't jump with "No HSPA+ love"
I have to say, this looks promising, and if it has at least the specs of Galaxy S + HSPA+LED Flash+ FF Camera/Video Chat... Aaaand Gingerbread!!! THAT's the killer folks....
SUX PART for me...... my MT4G is coming in mail in the next few days.
I would never give up my MT4G for a Samsung phone even though updates will come from Google I've been burned way to many times by different Samsung phones I've had in the past not gonna take the chance. If it was a HTC that would be a whole different ball game.
If I had know it was coming out soon I would've waited to check it out.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I'm interested, but I really enjoy this myTouch 4G.
I had the Vibrant, and absolutely loved it save for two things: the GPS/Compass problem (which was never fixed), and the lag in the OS. Besides that, I loved the screen and the media playback.
The Nexus S would have to pull some **** to woo me. I'm talking: first-party docks, physical camera button, HSPA+.
Depending on how nice Android 2.3 'Gingerbread' is, I might buy one just to play around with it, before I decide if I'm going to hold onto the myTouch 4G for a while. If T-Mo doesn't plan on updating the firmware, then that may weigh in on my decision. Otherwise, the myTouch 4G is kind of everything I was waiting for, with a little bit of stupid carrier bloat.
I read somewhere that T-Mo stated something along the lines of: '...we're not going to update the firmware unless there's a real reason to', in regards to the myTouch 4G. If that's the case, I may return it.
For now, I just want to enjoy this awesome phone. This is hard, of course, when 4-5 of the nicest phones you've ever seen leaked today. What a crazy day!
If the Nexus S was made by HTC I'd either be be crying my eyes out right now or be racing to the nearest t-mobile store with my MT4G all nicely packed up and ready to go (today is last day of my remorse period). I was a bit reluctant to buy the MT4G because I was really wanting a Nexus 2. Ended up liking the MT4G so much that I was quite content giving up on the Nexus 2, especially since we have perm-root. Now that I know the Nexus S is made by Samsung I couldn't be happier with my decision not to wait around.
Oh and according to the leaked BestBuy documents the Nexus S supports EDGE/GPRS 850/900/1800/1900MHz, HSUPA 5.76/7.2 900/1700/2100MHz, HSUPA 5.76/7.2 900/1700/2100. Anything missing?
If this has a non-RFS based filesystem and a working GPS, it could be a nice phone.
However, the new Samsung phone coming in February looks nicer with a larger, s-amoled 2 screen and HSDPA+ but it doesn't seem to have a FFC.
The first thing I noticed was the absence of a track ball/pad. That made cursor navigation VERY frustrating on the Vibrant. Plus, they kept that ity-bity volume rocker. I’ll bet that wee power button is positioned the same too. That made me want to pull my teeth out. I don’t see any REAL evidence of a notification LED, as the proxy/light sensors can be mistaken for just that. I shudder to think it has the same GPS and compass hardware as the Galaxy S line. The leaked spec sheet shows NO HSPA+. Same Vibrant all-plastic body too.
Without more evidence I will assume that the Nexus S is just a Vibrant with a bigger screen, FFC & LED flash. Pretty much what the Vibrant SHOULD have been on release.
Gingerbread? We’ll all have that in time. Especially on current rooted phones. Faster CPU? Doubtful. Who cares, if my above assumptions are even half correct.
Absolutely not what I would expect from something branded as a Nexus. SAMOLED is nice though. MT4G wins in my book.
http://www.tmonews.com/2010/11/nexus-s-specs-leaked/ Nexus S may not has HSPA+
I must say I'm definitely intrigued. I own the MT4G and I'm definitely happy with it but I am curious about the Nexus S mostly because Nexus One was considered such a good phone and I figure follow up to it has to be just as good if not better.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Let's not forget that G2 and MT4G is T-Mo's own branding and marketing so "T-Mobile phone = HSPA+ love"
Why are you guys liking the MT4G when it has dust under the screen? Should just go for the Nexus S

That would only hold true if both phones were made by the same manufacturer. Since the N1 was made by HTC and the Nexus S by Samsung all bets are off. For what it's worth this phone could be called anything. Just because it's called Nexus doesn't mean it'll follow up where the N1 left off.

[Q] HTC Inspire 4G vs Samsung Infuse

Please every one bare with me here, the time has come for me to upgrade to a new phone, although i currently own a Dell Streak and its not bad for what i do, i need a smaller phone but that continues to carry a large screen, therefore i have narrowed it down to the inspire and infuse.
i checked youtube for video comparisons, didnt find any, so im posting a thread here hoping to get good answers. I highly doubt someone has both for any reason, but you never know.
should i jump with either of these two or pass and wait a bit longer for something better?
Cheers
Fox
I can only comment on the inspire.
That said this phone is just awesome, I've tried a captivate for a little bit and that wasn't too bad, but no HTC sense. For me sense is where it is at. Also this phone is going to be heavier than the infuse, its metal. It has a very solid feel to it and at this point I wouldn't trade it for any other phone out there.
Also if you like playing with roms there are prolly, not for sure, but most likely more roms for this phone as it has the desire hd in Europe as an almost exact match.
Of course you could wait for the holiday, but that is going to bee several months away.
HTC is better than Samsung when it comes to cell phones in my opinion.

yes i figured i would get more answers leaning towards the HTC since this is a HTC forum, but I would post this on the Infuse forum as well to see... if thats ok with the mods.
I like that you mentioned about the ROMS, ive been looking at both the infuse and HTC inspire, and the HTC has sooo many devs and ROMS, i love it.
coming from a dell streak.. if you go to the Dell Streak forum you will only see one developer, he can only do so much with what he has, and the roms are just too simple for my taste.

You're also going to receive input from people biased against Samsung. There are a lot of former Captivate owners here who have a real problem with Samsung and the way they handled the Captivate issues. I happen to be one of them.
I will never buy another Samsung phone.
A pretty screen does not a reliable phone make.
HTC is a better phone. If the HTC Holiday comes out around December, that's the one to get, assuming they make good on their new bootloader policy and it comes unlocked,if you want to wait that long.
Otherwise, an inspire will keep you happy for a long time, and the dev section here is quite robust, as you can tell.
The screen on the Infuse is BARELY bigger than the Inspire but the phone is MUCH larger. Samsung gave it a lot of useless area at the top.
In the 1, or 2 side by side speed NON-SCIENTIFIC tests that I did, the Infuse had faster data transfer speeds.
If i were you i would wait for the galaxy s2 to come to att or somethin better then that. The inspire is really fast but its kinda getting outdated and the gs2 will last you longer.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
Inspire
I would go for Inspire as it has lot of roms. the only downside to it is battery life, but it depends on how u use, there are roms that can improve battery life.
Inspire hands down.. I hate samsung. but thats not the reason..
the infuse is nice. solid body construction.. nice screen.. very thin.. feels nice in hand.. and for me its fast.. and does what i need it to do..
the infuse. not much exp with it outside of messing with a co-workers infuse.. I felt like i could go on a killing spree with that thing. so huge... and felt cheap compared to my inspire..
I have had both and am going back to the inspire with the new Red inspire, the infuse is a ok phone but the big problem was the rooting, the actual rooting was easy but then you had to install a second recovery or e3 recovery in the phone with root explorer and then if you wanted to install a rom you had to use the red recovery instead of the green recovery or you would mess up the phone. Just to many thing to mess with and remember for a simple process. The choice of roms is also worthless and they are not all that great. I would say forget the infuse and get a inspire.
Take it from a former Captivate user. Inspire all the way. I just am not happy with the way Samsung handles issues with phones. Releasing os updates and such. GPS issues on there phones. Froyo took almost a yr to drop to the Captivate. HTC phones on other carriers were getting it much faster.
There is a 50 dollar difference in the price and that 50 bucks is not worth it for just a smidgen better screen. Sense is so much better then touchwiz.
Both communities have good development. I don't think i will be looking at another samsung phone. I'll stay with them for computer lcd's but going to be with htc from here on out.
Got an Infuse the day they came out, Used it for three weeks then traded it in for an Inspire. The 4.5 inch screen was great, since I was used to the big screen of a Streak. downside was weak radios, GSM,Wifi, and 3G. I had no problems with build quality or size. The screen colors were over saturated and sort of cartoonish. My$.02

Yes I did. Edited the post. Had a migraine all day.
i was holding both in my hands, comparing them.
ended up with the inspire.
there was also the $80 difference to consider.
infuse $149 vs. inspire $79 + 15% military discount.
the infuse was jsut too big for my hands,
it felt like a glock double stack 9millimeter made of plastic as comapred the inspire which seems like a 1911 with slim grips all metal feel.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PHONE BRAND?
And if you want tell why , post a comment
My:
HTC , cause I like 99% of their phones. I'm not a fanboy , i like the sense & android phones and too much the HTC's appearance.
I also like to have 180gr phone , with good quality costruction , LED notifications , and all. I will never buy one another phone brand since i have used HTC's phone , the prices are always high but the quality not changes. Also i think Samsung it's more popular as phone cause they make TV's MP3 and another things. I hate iPhone , their stupid publicity's on the television that shows one stupid feature to grab more iPhone fanboys to spend their cash. For the end i like HTC because:
1. For me are the best since i have tryed 4-5 phones.
2.Semi-alluminium cases and build quality
3.Their UI's on winmo , and also android are the more beatiful , and easy to use.
4. They make only phone's and not washing machines like samsung.
5. They are always the first: Android phone was the htc first to use it , 4G (?) 3D (?)
ZTE* SORRY
EDIT 1/08/1012

Sammy because they actually optimized their software.
It used to be HTC till they let themselves be held back by the crappy Qualcomm CPU's when everybody just outperforms them easily, also their screens are behind the Super AMOLED and IPS tech now being used thus more washed out than the rest, and lack of software optimization
Sammy gets my vote since they combine best cameras, best screens, best horsepower, and actually optimzes their software to work well too. Wish their build quality was better though

HTC,
Sense is a very attractive peace of software they've came up with. First android phone was made by HTC and had Sense. Became so used to it, I now won't buy a phone that isn't made by them...
The Nexus one is my only exception to a phone without HTC Sense, but funny that it is made by them.

I totally agree with you...
After a Magician, the brilliant Universal, the ok Trinity P3600, and the hobbled HTC Tytn II (which only matched previous phone video capabilities after the hardwork of Chainfire and others), that was it for me and HTC.
The Tytn II was powerful and well built (I dropped it off my GSXR 1000 when using it for sat nav and it only got a scratched....ok it was only 40 MPH), but limited drivers...How can you ship a phone that has slower video than an older model as stock?
Anyway, I believe Samsung (with the Galaxy S) was the first Android phone manufacturer that put the fight to Apple and the iPhone, with superior hardware and a slick UI running Android. I believe it also helped create more publicity for Android and turned potential iPhone purchasers away.
The iPhone was a collection of amazing cutting edge hardware (especially in GPU accelerated 3D graphics) and it had a brilliant user interface operating system that made good use of all of it.
I don't like Apple and the way they restrict what can be put on their device, but it's hard to ignore that without the iPhone, we wouldn't have Android as brilliant and superior as it is in it's flexibility, ease of use and multitasking.
We would have another Blackberry style device...urgh
Motorola hands down.

HTC will always be my favourite phone brand, not only because they are one of the biggest sponsors of the tour de france their phones have the nicest UI's and features in my opinion and now with the buy out of beats audio their phones will now rock the house
HTC
I like how their phones look... They all look alike so that's the good part! and they feel durable unlike the plastic like Samsung which feels like its either going to brake easily or its going to float away.
Sense it good and hopefully it gets better cuz HTC is like that
Used to be HTC when their designs are actually cool and unique, now its Samsung, since I realise every single manufacturers are going iPhone-clone looks anyway, might as well woot for the one with the constantly evolving specs.

I voted HTC for current smart phone brand since that is what I'm using now and have been very happy with it.
love the design, build quality, and the beautiful UI.
I really want to like Samsung but they really need to do something about all the plastic.
plus they need to get away from the Iclone look. Galaxy Nexus is a good start though. hopefully they embrace that design and move on from the current look of the Galaxy S line.
but having said all this, my legacy brand is Motorola. hey, grew up in the era of MicroTac, what can I tell you...

If SGS3 came to TMobile, how would you support your argument?

I'm waiting to see what Samsung has to offer, I'm not due for a new phone until June anyway.

Exactly the same situation here. If Samsungs new device sucks then its definately gotta be the S. Just hoping that the Galaxy's screen isnt as big as the One X's one. It's just too much... :what:

Well, even though it has it critics, and I do go through periods of using AOSP (and prob will on the S once it's available and stable) I still think Sense is the best custom UI on Android. Simple really, SGS3 can't match that element

Supposedly its going to have a 1080p screen, to me this is a bad thing.
1) I bet it is bigger than the ONE S and I wasn't quite happy with the size of the ONE X
2) It takes more horse power to run it, so its processor and graphics may be higher but side by side performance will probably be similar due to it having to push more pixels about the place. Also.. 1080p.. on a phone... What's the F'in point??
First i'm 100% sure that Galaxy S III won't have 2gb of ram neither 1080p screen. Its a next generation and since theres obvious settlement betwen manufacturers you can expect same specs as One X. And i'm also pretty sure that it won't have SD card, every manufacturer stops using them, why should they use them, about removable battery i'm not sure, if new galaxy is gonna be thinner then i guess it will have non removable battery.
I think the S3 will have 4.7 screen, so its big, also display will be as good as X. About other specs - I suspect quad core processor, some good graphic component, rumors about 12mp camera.
But anyway, there are only rumors atm, and Im not fan of S2, so I will go for One S as soon as it avaible here

but on 3rd may we might get some new infos (... no rumours)
however a display bigger than 4,6" is much to big for my taste...
if thats going to happen, i probably will get myself a ONE S
If it takes T-mobile US as long as it did to get the Galaxy S 2....i'm not waiting.
But then again, i don't want to wait. Im tired of Samsung's plastic devices, ugly touch wiz, and international Galaxy S3 will be different from the US Galaxy S3, which will hinder dev support.
Im sure the one s will have great dev support like the sensation. Every one S around the world will be the exact same and will run the same roms.
The only thing i was hating about htc phones was the bad slcd screen, so happy theres amoled now, and i dont care if its pentile.

There is a rumor tht the one x is coming to Tmo with stock ics. I know the gs3 will be beast but I hate touchwiz and love sense. I had a mt4gs and now have a sg2 and touchwiz kills it. There is no stock ics that's working well, and no sense .: /. I want the One s or the One x one tmobile, but would get the gs3 if there is a stock ics rom

Samsung gps
I am ready to upgrade from my Vibrant. I like my Samsung but the GPS is crap. I'm not sure I would trust a Samsung gps. I keep waiting for the gps to run me over a cliff. Is any Samsung gps as good as HTC?
nothing compares to HTC GPS. I can get a lock in under 15 seconds. no tweaks.
i never lose the satellite. Its found me home many times
kinda yes, I really like GS2 and SAMOLED Plus is great. But we still don't know if GS3 will be SAMOLED HD or SAMOLED HD Plus. It's most likely be the same size as One X, packing same or better CPU, probably same or better quality camera, and most likely missing things like notification light and noise canceling mic.
Already got one s and prefer HTC build

Same boat as @tf442. I have a "first month out" Vibrant and GPS has been abysmal from the get-go. I have flashed at least a dozen ROMS (probably more)from Bionix, Trigger all the way to ICS 4.0.4 and they vary, but still no where near other manufacturers GPS. I will not give $$$ to Samsung since they went on the pine in acknowledging any issues with GPS. That, and quit with FROYO. Not good for a top-end phone at the time.
I am eligible for upgrade now, but I don't think I am going to. I might wait out until mid to end-year to upgrade. I am pretty satisfied with my G2 still. Everyone swears it's a great backup phone, but I like it as my main phone all the same.

That won't happen.

Your first phone you were truly happy with?

For me, the E72 was my first complete phone, it had wifi it had GPS, it had everything i could possibly ever want... it was not until i upgraded to the samsung galaxy 1 did i feel wow, this is everything i ever wanted from a phone but was it?..
For me, to make the perfect phone, it has to be something along the lines of galaxy nexus with micro sd card with the ability of being drop proof, water proof, etc etc....
and we're getting close, but the first phone i was happy with has to be the E72 for what it had to offer and it's long battery life.
I didn't find phone satisfaction until I got the Samsung Epic Touch (sgii). It honestly does what I want it to do, fast... I came from the TP2 so it was definitely a performance jump. Great phone!

I haven't found mine yet probobly if I put all my diveces good points togerther I might just find the perfect phone
My nokia 6300-> Battery Life and Lightness
SGA->Nice design
Iphone 4s-> Just works (battery life sucks tho)
So I'm waiting 4 tha S3
This is kind of a loaded question. Every time I change I'm usually happier than with what I had before. My first phone was the Motorola brick in '91 so my second phone was a mind-blowing device compared to that one. As far as all-time fave during a particular time it would have to be a Samsung Epix. All the radios, push email, 3G tethering, etc. At that time, it was da bomb. Now, it's a resistive screen, stylus-dependent POS. Funny though, I still carry one of those POS's in my bag in case I'm not near a hotspot and need quick connectivity.
HTC Aria, it was my first "smart" phone and I love it still using it actually.
G2/Desire Z.
Wish I still had that thing.

HTC Touch (Windows Mobile Days)
... On a more recent note, my current HTC Vivid. It works so well that I havent even bothered to root it. Bone stock since the ICS update, because GB was horrible in performance

It is in human nature to always be looking for the next thing, you may get the biggest baddest fastest, but guess what there is going to be one better and soon too! However, there does come a point when technology will start to outrun its self, though I am not sure when... Once quad core phones actually start making a place in the market I am sure there will be a lot of satisfied tech heads.
For me however, I have only ever owned the EVO 4g and love it, though there are some fatal flaws and obviously it is becoming dated. The EVO LTE for me will be the next "perfect" phone, despite the overly protected bootloader... http://goo.gl/3T4NK
I was pretty happy with my old RAZR, even though it was the locked-down Verizon version. It got water damaged when it sat in my pocket during a rainstorm, but it came back to life and kept working for another year or so.
Eventually I wanted to strike off on my own and get a smartphone. The first one I had was a Samsung Moment. Needless to say, I hated it. I upgraded to an Epic 4G, and it's been much nicer. I really love this phone actually, it's fast, durable, and it has a very active development community and is very easy to hack.
Despite owning a Moment, the Epic redeemed Samsung in my eyes. Their phones are much more interesting to me now because unlike HTC and Motorola, they don't lock them down and make them difficult to hack.
evo for smart phone..
startac back in the day..
My HTC DHD is pretty cool, not happy with the screen's touch response though. The search continues.
Samsung i5500, an old model, but a very solid piece of hardware and cheap!
My Samsung Captivate when it was running cm7. It was as smooth as my GSII skyrocket is now. Minus the data speeds of course.
Samsung Nexus S with CM9 on it
I would say it was the HTC Advantage X7501. It was a mobile powerhouse. 3G, wifi, GPS, tethering, 8GB on board memory with an additonal card slot, vga/svideo out, and touch screen. Also had a detachable physical keyboard and a 5 in. screen. I still have it and it's still works fine. I thought of selling it many times, but just can't let it go.
I like phones that have groundbreaking features for their time, so mine would be:
EVO 4G
and
Nokia 3300--My first qwerty and mp3 capable phone

The first phone I was ever truly satisfied with was the Evo 4g. It was as fast as any smartphone during its time and the dev community was beyond amazing. I could flash a ROM 3 times a week for months and not flash the same ROM twice. There was friendly competition (Myn's Warm vs Mikfroyo vs Koni's Elite Series III) for best ROM, there were ports (Synergy, Virus' Kingdom ROM, Mikz, Mikg, etc), there was aosp (cm7, just gingerbread w/no cm, MIUI, many cm7 kangs), there were kernels (netarchy, tiamat, msm79723's sbc charging kernel).
I got over 24 hours of battery life back then, the phone didn't lag enough for me to care and there was always something going on with that phone. It was a great community to be a part of and the phone itself was pretty *****in too.
I have the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and while that doesn't qualify as a phone, I've been happy as can be with it as well. It doesn't have the dev community I like oh so much, but Sixaxis compatibility + NHL Gamecenter + big giant screen = pure win for me.
