Samsung Galaxy S4 Developer Edition headed to Verizon and AT&T - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 General

Oh my, more choices.
Not sure if I should hold out for these versions but from my understanding either this dev or google version will only be 16gb?
Where as there is a 32gb currently with at&t?

Even more AT&T S4's will be on Swappa, craigslist, and ebay. All depending on the price of course. I would think it would have to come under the Google edition price for folks to be interested.

If this is priced under the Google Edition, I'll probably be putting mine up on craigslist when the Developer Edition it comes out.
Unless, of course, this could help Adam or Dan or someone else find a permanent unlock for the bootloader...

at&t pricing under the google edition? I seriously doubt it.
Wonder if at&t will release it before google. Samsung really whoring themselves out with this galaxy model this time around huh

Don't look now but rumor has it that HTC is coming out with a Google edition soon.

Nice! This is what I have been waiting for, best of both worlds. Just wish it was the 32gb.

If it's subsidized, I will be picking one up! Still have 2 upgrades available!!

Htc one Google edition, developer edtion, or the at&t developer edition either way I liked the sgs4 screen much better.

I dont understand the point of this phone. Why not just release one model with the unlocked boot loader?

Thank you for pointing this out.
Half of the people posting on these threads no idea how to root/mod/flash anything as it is and are learning. Half of the people I talk to about my s4 being rooted don't even know what it means, I say ROM, they go "Whats thats!"
When I sold my s3, the guy had no real concept of what it meant when I said It was rooted running a stock rom...
"What does that mean?"
"Um... let me put it this way... You're getting better battery life, features, and all sorts of stuff than a regular S3 is..."

Don't think the phone will be worth less. Once the boot loader exploit is out, you don't have to deal with any of these issues

Did Samsung finally unlock this tablet yet? I see a few roms and kernels released for it now.. Just curious been wanting to pick one up for some time.

The tablet isn't locked down. We have root and CWM, but no real source as to build more custom ROMs/Kernels/etc. We are missing important pieces of source that Samsung has not yet released, so Development is at a stand still. ICS is expected in Q2, so our best bet is to wait for now

Thanks - I found a decent deal on a T-mobile version on Craigs.. haven't met up with the guy but I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan with T-mobile I can still move into it if I do get it.. Seems like a good choice.. Would rather have the 7.7 but it's also double the price or more, and still no development.

Switching to Verizon from Tmobile.

I'm switching to Verizon from Tmobile, I can't make up my mind on the GS3 or GN. I get a good deal threw my company and I can get either phone for $ 49.99. I want the Nexus because it has the best development and gets all the latest updates, and want the GS3 because of the amazing hardware and features...
What's should do?

Spec wise the S3 is better, Development wise the Nexus is better but the new Nexus is coming out this year. So, it's all up to you in you want an older phone with little bit worse specs than a newer phone with better specs unless you want to wait for the new Nexus.

You definitely made the right choice.
We have both phones on our VZ corporate account. The GN has a few more ROMs available, but other than that the G3 is light years ahead of the obsolete GN.

Plus the GN has almost a year of development time, it hasn't been a month yet for the GS3. Give it some time there will be some killer stuff on this phone.
Btw.. The roms and themes already available for the GS3 are fantastic, battery life is great and it will only get better. Go for the better hardware, roms will come!

I would honestly be surprised if the next Nexus phone is available on Verizon.
The GNEX was problematic because of the CDMA radio. The whole 'not a real nexus' and all. I think google has shown us how they want to start selling Nexus devices, and it doesn't appear to involve a carrier.

If they do this, there's no way in hell verizon would approve having a device that goes over their jurisdiction be allowed on their network. The only way you can get a device on Verizon is through them.

Well, what about the GS3 Developer edition?
I don't think you'll regret having the S3! It's been a great phone, and even though it's "locked" - there are/will be plenty of custom ROM's, hacks, and themes you can put into it!
I like the concept of the Galaxy Nexus but the screen is not as great as the S3, and even though it's only a 4.3 inch device, while the S3 is 4.8 - the S3 is the same size as the nexus and even a little thinner!!! Definitely nicer in my opinion!

[Q] What phone to get?

I currently have a Verizon Galaxy S4 and all in all i'm happy with it but there's one HUGE fault for me. The bootloader isn't unlockable. I'm the type of person who really loves customization and well you can see why this is a problem for me. What would be another option similar in specs that would have an unlockable bootloader + root methods available?
The phone i currently want would be an HTC One or HTC One (M8), but i'm not sure as to if it's bootloader is unlockable so if someone who knows could tell me i'd be grateful. (I would Google it but it's 3:30 am in the morning and i can't think straight enough to think of what to Google )

I'm digging it too. I agree with you on the g3 coming from the g2 myself. I do miss the tiny bezels. Gotta feeling g3 will be locked up tight like the gs5. G2 used Loki like the gs4 which I believe isn't being worked on anymore to bypass bootloader protection. So If it's locked up tight I'm not going anywhere

When I was looking for my next phone, i was between (obviously) GS5 and M8.... the rootability/custom romming was a HUGE reason why I chose the M8, and i'm so happy I did. My sister just got the GS5 (on TMo) and she's loving it, but of course she won't want/need to root it. I know I made the right choice
Yep I think tmobile version gs5 is rocking root and recovery already. It would be nice if I could get decent service in my area with someone other than vzw but I'm pretty much stuck if I want to be able to make phone calls lol. That would open up more phone choices. I'm in the same boat as you and have to go with whatever can be rooted and rom'd on vzw which is becoming very slim with them
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
loving my m8, I'm borderline def so front facing speakers is a plus. I'm coming from galaxy s3 and not a big fan of an actual button but it would be nice to see all apps use all of m8's screen real state.

Oh, interesting. I thought after the GS4 issues of full and total lockdown of bootloader that the GS5 was also locked. But maybe it's only VZW that has this problem ... Oh verizon ....
But luckily we have some extremely talented devleopers (Shoutout to @jcase @beaups @Fuses et al) working their little tushes off to keep us open and unlocked and in full control of the devices which we have purchased!
They don't mention a 32 gb internal storage m8.I was given two of those from the b1g1

Most developers have moved on from the VZW S3. And I'm leaning towards there will probably never be a fix for the locked bootloader
Sent from my Nexus 5
As far as I know, the only developer for the s4 is @mohammad.afaneh , and I don't think he is even working on the bootloader. It's three generations old, and I doubt any unlock will be made...
BUT
You can use JTAG to downgrade to the bootloader unlockable firmware... its around 100-150 bucks though from what I have heard.
