Go into bootloader by holding power and volume down until the lights top flashing. Release power but continue to hold volume down. It will say evita. All the roms in development and original development will work. If you are having bootloop problems, let me know your hboot version and if you are s-off. You may have to flash boot image separately.

thanks now i know

ok
Hboot version is 2.1.4.0000
and im still getting same problem.

If you are s-on, you must simply fastboot flash boot boot.img whereby the boot.img is extracted from the rom you're flashing.
If that doesn't do it, check the md5 of your rom. If it's correct, make sure you are using twrp 2.3.3.1 or under, if not, flash twrp 2.3.3.1 or under and then fastboot erase cache. Then wipe everything and flash your rom. If you are s-on you need to fastboot flash boot boot.img

You will have to try flashing boot image manually. On your computer, open the custom ROM zip using an unzip program (WinZip, WinRAR, etc.) and extract the file "boot.img" (no quotes). Place this file in the same folder as fastboot.exe..the command to flash a boot.img is: fastboot flash boot boot.img

[TOOL] Boot.IMG OnEcLick Flasher (Windows) update 1/14/13

STUCK IN A BOOTLOOP? PHONE WILL ONLY BOOT TO SPLASH SCREEN THEN NOTHING? I'll bet your one x has the newer 1.14 hboot and you didn't know you had to flash the boot.img of your rom in fastboot! This tool takes care of it for you.
Hello everyone the 2.20 firmware comes with a new hboot (1.14)as we all know. It will no longer allow you to flash the boot.img of your rom in recovery. I created this one click tool to ease that process. This is a simple tool to flash the boot.img of your choice. Currently windows only anyone on MAC feel free to make a port.
1/14/2013 There is now an app out that will do this for us. However new people here are failing to search and read so I have updated the tool to make it more user friendly and almost fullproof if directions are followed to a T.
Disclaimer: You are responsible for the actions you take with your phone. I cannot be held accountable if you mess something up.
To use:
1 Unlocked bootloader
2 Custom Recovery
3 Download boot.imgflasher.zip
4 make sure you have HTC One X Drivers installed
5 make sure HTC sync is not running in the background or system tray on pc
6 Have USB Debugging under developer options turned on
7 Have fastboot under power turned off
8 Extract the downloaded zip to the location of your choice
9 Download the rom you want to flash to your pc.
10 locate the boot.img file of your rom in its zip file
11 Place your boot.img you would like to flash in the folder you extracted above.
***DO NOT PLACE THE BOOT.IMG IN ANY SUBFOLDERS, ETC SIMPLY DROP IT INTO THE FOLDER***
10 Connect phone to the pc
11 Open the folder and click the bootimageflasher.bat file. Follow on screen directions.
12 finished
The way this is set up is to be flashed prior to flashing your custom ROM. Remember that you need to have all necessary items including ROM etc on sdcard before running this script. After you flash the boot.img you can then use recovery to flash your custom ROM of choice.
It will also work if you flash the boot.img after installing the rom. Simply flash the rom of your choice then run this tool before you reboot the phone.
Happy Flashing
Download boot.img one click flasher:

question
sorry this is a dumb question, i am coming from a galaxy nexus and was given this phone. this only works if you are in 2.20 and already have an unlocked bootloader correct? because mine is brand new and i love it but it would be much better with cm10. so for my case im basically screwed till 2.20 is somehow rooted correct?

Is this set up to strip the signature out of stock boot.img files that are extracted from RUU? If not, you should add a disclaimer as flashing those via DD with the headers in-tact with soft-brick your device.

You can flash a rooted stock rom. There are several in the development forum.
ive been doing more reading as well i see i can install a ruu from rogers as well if im reading correctly
after i get rid of the s/u files and after i lock the bootloader?
is that what you mean by rooted stock roms
thanks elvis
What he means is you don't have to ruu back to stock and relock bootloader. You can just flash a sense ROM. However if you have hboot 1.14 you'll have to flash the boot IMG in adb.
If your rooted with 2.20 firmware and 1.14 hboot? I can send you a link with some walkthrough if you'd like?

You can manually go into boot loader by holding power and volume down at the same time until lights stop flashing then let go of the power while continuing to hold volume down. Wait a few seconds and you should be in boot loader.

You have to flash the boot image separate through fast boot. Ur phone is fine it just has the wrong boot image. Use WinZip or something to open the ROM zip file and look for the file boot.IMG and copy to your adb folder and then while hooked to PC in the boot loader (should say fastboot USB) flash the boot image from there. I'm not sure the exact command but its something like fastboot flash flash boot.IMG ( correct me if I'm wrong I'm have been on 1.09 and s-off so I never had to bother)

Need more info. Hboot version, s-on s-off. What did you do that got you in a bootloop?
If you are S-on sometimes you need to "Fastboot boot boot.img" I used to have to do it for my vivid, I'd either get bootloops or WiFi broken. I'm not expert or anything but it could be that...

You should really do some reading on this phone. People have bricked them by not reading enough before attempting flashing ROMs. Flashing the wrong rom, become familiar with adb/ fastboot commands, and generally how the phone works and the proper steps to get it accomplished successfully. And after reading if u still aren't 100% then ask before attempting, its easier to find it something won't work right before you flash and then need help to recover the device.

You are boot looping because on hboot 1.14 you can't flash the boot image from recovery. Has to be pushed with fastboot.. So the boot image from your previous ROM is still there, resulting in a boot loop

Haha! I was gonna say something similar to this as hboot 1.14 + s-on + flashing boot.img is posted ALL OVER THE DAMN PLACE and if not just from reading a sticky, a search surely would pull this info up... but then i figured, what's the point? OP won't care and people will continue to not read and have issues as a result. Best thing to do is just embrace the noobs with their nooblike behaviour!

Does it say Evita in boot loader??? What hboot version?

Also, don't run the latest ruu if you want to root. That will limit you from rooting.
You have a lot of reading to do my friend, I'm not even gonna touch this thread.

+1 best advice so far
OP, do yourself a huge favor and listen to this. I personally don't care how familiar you THINK you are with mobile devices, EVERY device is different. Sit down, relax and read. If you can't get the terms RUU, HBOOT or don't even know if you have the Evita, please read everything possible before you brick your phone. If you do brick, don't come crying here about how to unbrick either.

if i make root to the phone, the result - root access to the bootloader > so i could install another recovery for my phone > what gives to me access to install another ROM or *.zip file ..
another result can be Brick .. that i could use the phone for paper holder, or door stopper ...
can't see this working out well....

Since we are here how did you end up this way? May be as simple as fastboot flashing a recovery and mounting your sd card, putting a Rom on there and flashing it

If you can access bootloader it can be fixed.. this needs to be moved to q+a..

It's far from dead, that's for sure. First off, Is this an international quad core HTC One X or a Carrier locked dual core HTC One X? The two models vary greatly and before we can proceed this is crucial to know. In your hboot it will either say endeavor or evita if you are unsure just post which one it says.
What recovery/version are you using? What hboot version? Are you S-On or S-Off?
Once you answer these questions, helping you will be easy as pie.

I seem to have the same problem. Let me specify.
My One X (international) will enter hboot on boot, and unless USB is disconnected it will be stuck on 'Checking SD card update...'. So when I disconnect my USB it will enter hboot, and from there I can also enter fastboot. However, when I reconnect USB and enter fastboot (or the other way around, it doesn't matter) fastboot freezes. It will un-freeze as soon as I disconnect the USB. ADB can't find my device, and neither can fastboot on my computer (running Linux), even though they both could in the past.
My One X is RELOCKED (as it displays at the top of the screen at hboot) and it also prints "Security Warning".

Joost
