You can flash a rooted stock rom. There are several in the development forum.

ive been doing more reading as well i see i can install a ruu from rogers as well if im reading correctly
after i get rid of the s/u files and after i lock the bootloader?
is that what you mean by rooted stock roms
thanks elvis

What he means is you don't have to ruu back to stock and relock bootloader. You can just flash a sense ROM. However if you have hboot 1.14 you'll have to flash the boot IMG in adb.
If your rooted with 2.20 firmware and 1.14 hboot? I can send you a link with some walkthrough if you'd like?
Sent from my One X using xda premium

my hboot is 1.11.0000 i believe its 2.20 build number is 2.20502.7cl79936 hope that makes sense
remember im still wet behind the ears with this stuff so speak in rooting for dummies language lol
i will take all the help i can get
thanks subaru

I looked around and I don't think you'll have to flash the boot IMG with you hboot. I'll ask one of the devs and see if he'll respond.

you only need to flash boot.img for 1.14 or higher (higher doesn't exist, yet)

[TOOL] Boot.IMG OnEcLick Flasher (Windows) update 1/14/13

STUCK IN A BOOTLOOP? PHONE WILL ONLY BOOT TO SPLASH SCREEN THEN NOTHING? I'll bet your one x has the newer 1.14 hboot and you didn't know you had to flash the boot.img of your rom in fastboot! This tool takes care of it for you.
Hello everyone the 2.20 firmware comes with a new hboot (1.14)as we all know. It will no longer allow you to flash the boot.img of your rom in recovery. I created this one click tool to ease that process. This is a simple tool to flash the boot.img of your choice. Currently windows only anyone on MAC feel free to make a port.
1/14/2013 There is now an app out that will do this for us. However new people here are failing to search and read so I have updated the tool to make it more user friendly and almost fullproof if directions are followed to a T.
Disclaimer: You are responsible for the actions you take with your phone. I cannot be held accountable if you mess something up.
To use:
1 Unlocked bootloader
2 Custom Recovery
3 Download boot.imgflasher.zip
4 make sure you have HTC One X Drivers installed
5 make sure HTC sync is not running in the background or system tray on pc
6 Have USB Debugging under developer options turned on
7 Have fastboot under power turned off
8 Extract the downloaded zip to the location of your choice
9 Download the rom you want to flash to your pc.
10 locate the boot.img file of your rom in its zip file
11 Place your boot.img you would like to flash in the folder you extracted above.
***DO NOT PLACE THE BOOT.IMG IN ANY SUBFOLDERS, ETC SIMPLY DROP IT INTO THE FOLDER***
10 Connect phone to the pc
11 Open the folder and click the bootimageflasher.bat file. Follow on screen directions.
12 finished
The way this is set up is to be flashed prior to flashing your custom ROM. Remember that you need to have all necessary items including ROM etc on sdcard before running this script. After you flash the boot.img you can then use recovery to flash your custom ROM of choice.
It will also work if you flash the boot.img after installing the rom. Simply flash the rom of your choice then run this tool before you reboot the phone.
Happy Flashing
Download boot.img one click flasher:

question
sorry this is a dumb question, i am coming from a galaxy nexus and was given this phone. this only works if you are in 2.20 and already have an unlocked bootloader correct? because mine is brand new and i love it but it would be much better with cm10. so for my case im basically screwed till 2.20 is somehow rooted correct?

Is this set up to strip the signature out of stock boot.img files that are extracted from RUU? If not, you should add a disclaimer as flashing those via DD with the headers in-tact with soft-brick your device.

If you are S-on sometimes you need to "Fastboot boot boot.img" I used to have to do it for my vivid, I'd either get bootloops or WiFi broken. I'm not expert or anything but it could be that...

You should really do some reading on this phone. People have bricked them by not reading enough before attempting flashing ROMs. Flashing the wrong rom, become familiar with adb/ fastboot commands, and generally how the phone works and the proper steps to get it accomplished successfully. And after reading if u still aren't 100% then ask before attempting, its easier to find it something won't work right before you flash and then need help to recover the device.

You are boot looping because on hboot 1.14 you can't flash the boot image from recovery. Has to be pushed with fastboot.. So the boot image from your previous ROM is still there, resulting in a boot loop

Haha! I was gonna say something similar to this as hboot 1.14 + s-on + flashing boot.img is posted ALL OVER THE DAMN PLACE and if not just from reading a sticky, a search surely would pull this info up... but then i figured, what's the point? OP won't care and people will continue to not read and have issues as a result. Best thing to do is just embrace the noobs with their nooblike behaviour!

+1 best advice so far
OP, do yourself a huge favor and listen to this. I personally don't care how familiar you THINK you are with mobile devices, EVERY device is different. Sit down, relax and read. If you can't get the terms RUU, HBOOT or don't even know if you have the Evita, please read everything possible before you brick your phone. If you do brick, don't come crying here about how to unbrick either.

[q] htc one x future updates

Hi, I recently purchased an HTC one X and I get a message with red letters saying "this build is for development purposes only do not distribute outside of htc", also my htc has been ramdomly rebooting, I want to go back to the stock ROM because I think I might have a custom one and that can be the cause of the random rebooting.
I have the 4.1 oficial firmware but I am affraid to flash it because my phone can become a brick.... The phone was rooted with SuperSU but I have uninstalled it and checked with titanium and I can no longer get superuser rights(I suppose I have succesfully unrooted my phone), I have also checked on bootlader and I have S-ON so I dont know if I am under conditions to flash the oficial firmware without risk(I dont want a brik). I want the original firmware because of the upcoming 4.2 and sense 5.0 update HTC will be releasing.
Thanks in advace for your help.

Is that all??? with S-OFF there is absolute no risk of briking??
Nonononono there's a tradeoff. Because once you supercid you brick if you ruu while s-on. So you need to s-off so as not to brick while RUUing. Technically because there are no longer security checks you have a greater amount of risk If you do something stupid.

Just flash a stock rooted Rom would be my advice.. what are you gaining from ruu? Look at cleanrom, it's forsurely the most stable for this phone... Just my 2 cents cause if ya don't know what you're doing or are comfortable using adb odds are is you will booger up your new to you phone..

Updated firmware that is not part of the ROM. If you read the top post of CleanROM, its recommended to RUU first. Its not "required", but some folks have found it helpful to resolve some issues, like random reboots.

Nothing you do to your phone can remove all risk of bricking when you flash. There is always a risk.
But if you have S-On and SuperCID, and try to install certain OTAs or RUUs, a brick is certain (known brick condition).

In the top post you will see under Installation: •Highly recomend lates Jellybean firmware and S-Off!
Scrosler doesn't explicitly say "RUU", but this is what he means.

First TY all for the responses, Is not my first time flashing custom roms but this is my first HTC phone and I am a little confused with all the s-off and ruu stuff
That is my software info and I have S-on, also I have unrooted, the phone had supersu but no more, what else do I have to do and what Rom do you recomend???
I really want to be able to install oficial updates without trouble.

you are currently on the latest software. I would recommend S-OFF if you plan to take official updates. If you're confused about terminology, there's a thread in my siganture "Are you ready to root?" That explains a lot of the terminology.

If you are S-on and SuperCID (which your phone likely is), and try to take the 3.18 Jellybean OTA, or run the 3.18 RUU, you will brick.
S-off will at least prevent bricking from this particular condition. The other option is change back to the AT&T CID.

All of the Sense 5 ROMs need the firmware upgrade. Why not just get s-off and update your firmware?

How do I get soff and upgrade

You need s-off first. But you'll need to flash a ROM with an insecure kernel for s-off to work. One of the 4.1 ROMs should be fine.

No. OTA can only be flashed with stock recovery and you must come from EXACTLY the ROM/firmware the OTA was to officially update from.
You also can not flash firmware.zip from CWM or TWRP but instead use rebootRUU mode.
From recovery depending on hboot and s-off status you may be able to change the radio and boot image. You should assume CWM and TWRP is only to replace /system, everything else has a different procedure.

No you can't. I've told you exactly what you need to do already. Have you gotten s-off?

How to soff it's lengthy procedure or help me in returning to my stock recovery
sent from one x evita
I gave you a link for the s-off procedure. I also told you what version ROM you need to flash first to have the best chance of it working. Are you not reading my posts? What gave you the idea that flashing an OTA with TWRP would help after I've already given you the answer you need?

I saw somewhere around tat can update via custom recovery
sent from one x evita
I don't want to s off I just want a stock recovery of 2.20 firmware , as u suggested to soff and flashing Similar unkernel and all tat stuff is very lengthy ,so I decided to install stock recovery and then update by ota.zip so if u can help me with stock recovery of 2.20 firmware plz do
sent from one x evita
No, updating by that method is the harder way to do it. But hey, what do I know.

How can I get the stock recovery of that particular firmware

You need a tool to extract the file.

Which tool I have hasoons toolkit
sent from one x evita
Are you even going to attempt to do any of the work for yourself? Search how to extract RUU.
Sent from my Evita.
I've already told him that here but he didn't listen and has created yet another duplicate thread.
@mahesh48 you've already been told not to create duplicate threads.

Why do you bother asking questions if you're not going to listen to the advice you're given?
Sent from my Evita.
Mr timaaa u only adviced me but I searched bit around and found that there is a stock Rom based on the 2.20 firmware so I thought of getting it from one of those Rom users
sent from one x evita
The ROM does not contain the recovery, it is a ROM. The RUU contains the recovery. That's why I said you need to extract it from the RUU. I'm happy to help people but if you're not going to listen why would I bother?

I don't even know why you think you need to install the 3.18 OTA anyway. It isn't even the firmware you need. You will still need to get s-off so you can update your firmware to the correct version anyway. You're just creating more work for yourself. I did tell you that but you didn't listen to that either.

Did u mean that only if I s off I can flash sense 5 roms?
