All of the Sense 5 ROMs need the firmware upgrade. Why not just get s-off and update your firmware?

Help me through upgrading firmware
sent from one x evita

You need s-off first. But you'll need to flash a ROM with an insecure kernel for s-off to work. One of the 4.1 ROMs should be fine.
Sent from my Evita.

No. OTA can only be flashed with stock recovery and you must come from EXACTLY the ROM/firmware the OTA was to officially update from.
You also can not flash firmware.zip from CWM or TWRP but instead use rebootRUU mode.
From recovery depending on hboot and s-off status you may be able to change the radio and boot image. You should assume CWM and TWRP is only to replace /system, everything else has a different procedure.

No you can't. I've told you exactly what you need to do already. Have you gotten s-off?

How to soff it's lengthy procedure or help me in returning to my stock recovery
sent from one x evita

I gave you a link for the s-off procedure. I also told you what version ROM you need to flash first to have the best chance of it working. Are you not reading my posts? What gave you the idea that flashing an OTA with TWRP would help after I've already given you the answer you need?
Sent from my Evita.

I saw somewhere around tat can update via custom recovery
sent from one x evita

I don't want to s off I just want a stock recovery of 2.20 firmware , as u suggested to soff and flashing Similar unkernel and all tat stuff is very lengthy ,so I decided to install stock recovery and then update by ota.zip so if u can help me with stock recovery of 2.20 firmware plz do
sent from one x evita

No, updating by that method is the harder way to do it. But hey, what do I know.

How can I get the stock recovery of that particular firmware

You need a tool to extract the file.

Are you even going to attempt to do any of the work for yourself? Search how to extract RUU.

Why do you bother asking questions if you're not going to listen to the advice you're given?
Sent from my Evita.

Mr timaaa u only adviced me but I searched bit around and found that there is a stock Rom based on the 2.20 firmware so I thought of getting it from one of those Rom users
sent from one x evita

The ROM does not contain the recovery, it is a ROM. The RUU contains the recovery. That's why I said you need to extract it from the RUU. I'm happy to help people but if you're not going to listen why would I bother?
Sent from my Evita.

I don't even know why you think you need to install the 3.18 OTA anyway. It isn't even the firmware you need. You will still need to get s-off so you can update your firmware to the correct version anyway. You're just creating more work for yourself. I did tell you that but you didn't listen to that either.

Did u mean that only if I s off I can flash sense 5 roms?

Best way to find something is to search, here is a link to a site that has all the ruu's
http://www.filefactory.com/f/4e1ce47f16313c0d/
If its not there PM this member with the RUU info you are looking for he should know where to try: Football
And if you had looked at that site you'd see there isn't a 1.94 RUU there.

Precisely
Bump
If I remember right the 1.94 ruu wasn't a full stock rom, but an update to the original 1.73 ruu.
If you want stock back for warranty work or similar just download the 1.73 ruu and install it. If you want to use the stock 1.94 then install the 1.73 and just do an ota update to 1.94.

I was in the same situation you are in...you can Download and flash TWRP using adb which can be found here: http://teamw.in/project/twrp2, Once flashed you can go to recovery from bootloader and flash a rom using TWRP, i used Nocturnal ROM, it works great! It can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1796256

You can flash a rooted stock rom. There are several in the development forum.
ive been doing more reading as well i see i can install a ruu from rogers as well if im reading correctly
after i get rid of the s/u files and after i lock the bootloader?
is that what you mean by rooted stock roms
thanks elvis
What he means is you don't have to ruu back to stock and relock bootloader. You can just flash a sense ROM. However if you have hboot 1.14 you'll have to flash the boot IMG in adb.
If your rooted with 2.20 firmware and 1.14 hboot? I can send you a link with some walkthrough if you'd like?

[Q] Upgrade TELUS HoX to newest firmware

I've been looking and have found that there is no RUU for the 3.17 Telus update, only OTA zips.
I would like to upgrade my phone to the newest firmware, and then re-unlock, and restore my rom from a nandroid backup.
Is there anyway that I can do this? Should I run the AT&T RUU and then proceed to unlock the normal way?
I am s-off before anyone yells at me.
What I did is ruu to ics, then check for updates. I have seen some 3.17 ota repack downloads but I prefer direct from the source.
Then installed twrp 2.3.x then downgraded touchscreen firmware to run AOSP. Though you don't need to do that unless you want to run AOSP.
Telus sucks at releasing RUUs, but the network here isn't as Saturated as some of the other guys

I forgot to add, there is no need to re-unlock as there's no need to re-lock to RUU with S-OFF. Just keep it unlocked and then flash TWRP after. nice and easy. (I have done this myself so I am 100% positive)

Hboot 1.09

Can someone tell me the benifits of hboot 1.09... I am currently on 1.14 with s-on
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app
With hboot 1.09 and S-on, boot.img is flashed automatically from recovery anytime you flash a ROM (does not need to be flashed using fastboot). Also, radios can be flashed from recovery.
Both are possible now (with any hboot) if you are s-off. So I'd recommend s-off.
Also, this should have been posted to the Q&A forum section. So I've reported to the mods to move it.

Be careful what you install from cm site. There are roms that are for the international one x and if you flash those you will brick your device. Stay on this forum and scan original android development thread, that's where you will find the correct cm roms..

Thanks, also, what are the benefits of S-off??
You can find the answer to that if you just read. Buuuuut, it removes security checks basically, so you can really flash anything to your device.
This means you can run any RUU (for this device) without having to relock the bootloader etc, it also means that people on hboot 2.14 are able to flash kernels in recovery instead of flashing boot.img through fastboot. Plus you can downgrade touchscreen firmware, remove red text from splash screen, and edit "tampered" flags within hboot I believe.
This also comes with risks though. Because there are no security checks, it's easier to brick if you flash something that is not intended for our device (ROM / RUU).

All true. Plus, there is some type of bug where if your phone is SuperCID and S-on, you can brick if you try to install official the JB OTA or RUU. S-off removed this particular risk factor.

If you install the JB OTA or RUU, it will upgrade the touch panel firmware, which is not compatible with AOSP ROMs. The touch panel firmware is independent of hboot, ROM or radio. So only a JB RUU or OTA will give you the updated touch panel firmware.
So if you for some reason end up running the RUU or OTA, and end up with the newer touch panel firmware, and want to run AOSP ROMs, you need to downgrade the touch panel firmware (S-off required).

If you are on the latest firmware but your custom rom is not running the new firmware will your phone show the old firmware ? Asking because I tried updating firmware a while back but I"am running viperone 1.8 and I think they have not updated the rom to the new firmware I have no clue why they have not as most roms have. And I dont want to ask on the rom forum because they the devs are a bit touchy about people asking about updates on the rom and I tried asking on the rom forum before and no one replied about it. My bootloader screen does not list the firmware it shows the hboot number and the radio which the radio is the latest one, which may be because I had flashed the new radio on its own so I may still not have the new firmware. It also lists april 1st 2014 and the hboot is 3.16.0.0000 So viperone uses the international firmware for the cdma verizon and sprint that seems odd ? Is the 1.54 the newest international firmware then ?

What does your OS in boot loader? That would be your firmware. An yea viper plus others base there Roms off 1.54 firmware. I don't use viper myself but pretty sure that's always up to date.
Edit. You can update your firmware an run viper no problem at all if that is what your wondering. As my wife m8 does run viper an she is up to date on everything. No issue at all. FYI.

So I might have messed up my phone (hopefully not). I was trying to back to stock but the RUU comes with SU installed, I already used this to "lock" my bootloader, and now firewater when i run it says the following "there really isn't a helluva lot to do here. bye bye".
if you have any suggestions let me know. For what you told me I want to go back to unlocked but might have screwed the pooch with the bootloader lock.
Thanks again for all the help.
