Has anybody had any problems with dust under your screen? it almost looks like a dead pixel, but it is most certainly dust. Its on the right side upper part of the screen. Thinking about exchanging it because its super annoying (although i could just be ocding, lol) If this is a widespread problem though i may not bother, just to get another with even more dust under it,although i have not seen any other threads on it in the desire HD section.
It appears as the original desires had a big problem with LOTS of dust under the screen, specially by the volume rocker. Sounds like a screen sealing problem, which HTC had a really hard time with the EVOs too. The screen actually lifted up on the bottom due to no glue on the bottom part of the screen.
Get an exchange and be done with it.

Add me to the list aswell there were tiny specks I could tolerate and only seen under direct sunlight with screen off but one huge speck that kept annoying me completely, visible in any lighting...Costco agreed with me also and got a new one replaced heck they replaced the entire package even the extra accessories they included..really happy now! thank you Costco.

I have dust under my screen also
I suspect the charger and headphone ports are the culprits.
Bugs me to no end.
This was a problem that plagued my CDMA Hero as well. Sprint Service center saw me once a month or so to get it cleaned, Will AT&T just swap it under warranty? So far I'm dust free.
Finally after three replacement I have a dust free screen. Bought mine at BestBuy mobile. They were pretty cool about it.
I noticed dust in the top corners under my screen today too, but I can't for the life of me see it now - the lighting must need to be perfect.
i have dust under my screen now after about 3 weeks of use. it did NOT when i bought it because im anal and i looked very closley. to be honest, a less anal person might not even notice the 5 tiny specs of dust that i see under the screen.
has anyone swapped due to dust issues and got a unit that does NOT get dust under the screen at all? and im aksing this of the people who are turely anal about. ive handed my phone to 3 different people and asked them if they could see the dust, and they could not, then i gave it to my dad (more retentive than me even) and he spotted each spec of dust.
baiscally, im trying to decide if its worth swapping, then going through rooting and getting my phone just how i want it again, only to get dust int he next phone. if its going to happen to every inspire, then i wont bother.

well i got mine inside of a target, i can return for any reason within 30 days. im just trying to find out if its even possible to get a unit that WILL NOT get ANY dust inside of it. if all of them are going to get dust under the screen, then theres no need to go through the hassle

I too, am retentive and checked mine for dust and it's there.
Here is my situation:
I purchased my phone from letstalk.com, so if I were to do an exchange, I would be without a phone for about a week and a half (I have to send the phone back first).
I noticed dust particles (about 10 or so) on the right side of the screen today. I'm not sure if they have always been there, or just slowly appeared. I never noticed it until I was in direct sunlight today. They aren't noticeable at all when the screen is on.
I'm also afraid of receiving an Acer screen instead of sharp.
So, for those of you that have dust under the screen, did you exchange for a new phone?
You know I have some dust and don't plan on exchanging mine. I'm sure if I do it will just happen again. At least until the next batch if they correct it. I have a sharp screen and prefer it. I think I will just keep it for a few months then do a insurance claim so I get a new one and not a refurbished one. Yeah there is a deductible but I think it's worth it.

Take the case off your sensation and make sure the screen is on at full brightness. Look at the lower right corner, you can clearly see the backlight for the buttons , I imagine dust gets in there and slowly travels (due to moving the phone around) to the screen portion of the device.
I had mine for about 3 weeks when I noticed the dust under the screen, about half way down the screen on the right side. It wasn't specks, but a streak of dust going from the edge toward the middle. I called T Mobile for a replacement, and the one they sent me was worse than what I had, green tinge to the screen, and the screen was not responsive. I sent back the replacement. I sent mine in to HTC almost 2 weeks ago. They replaced the LCD, and sealed the edges (or wherever the dirt is coming in at). It is supposed to be back in a couple of days. I will post how it looks, and if there are any issues with the repair, when it gets here.

I hope so too. I didn't notice any dust in the one they sent me, but it was a "refurb". It was far worse than what I had, so I sent it back to them. I decided then that I wasn't going to play the exchange game with them anymore, and I liked the phone I had, just not the dirt. I am so hoping that I don't have any more problems with it because if I have to live without it for 2 weeks again, I will not be happy!

Wow.. I was thinking the replacement would solve my problems.. but if the refurb units are sub-par, maybe not. And if the dust is an issue with all sensations it looks like they will all need to be sent in to HTC for sealing. Dust Screen of Death.
I'll update when it arrives.
I think the Sensation just has sealing problems with the screen. Just 2 days ago I was out and it started raining, and my phone was in the pocket face down facing my thigh. By the time I got home and pulled out my phone, water had seeped into the screen and messed it up, but all my liquid damage indicators were white. All my other phones, I never even had to worry about that. My HD2, I got poured on outside by a lot of rain, and my phone was completely fine. Luckily, I'm still getting a replacement.

I replaced my screen and the LCD. They are pretty tightly glued together but my glass was fine, it was the LED that was shot. I didn't watch the video but I can give you some of my experience. I got the replacement from China. It came with magic marker blocking out the 2 logos. It was on the plastic covering and there they were when I removed it. I didn't watch the YouTube I was watching past the point where he said press anywhere its broken anyway. The next sentence was "except here". I can tell you if press there you will hear an 8.95 snap. Its the power strip to the lighted home buttons. So I put the screen on and waited for it to arrive. I also got some 2mm double-sided tape this time. I knew to get it really hot also, even though I hadn't really pressed it home. I looked at the speaker hole and though that would be a good place to grab- DON'T. It snapped off the top part of the replacement screen. I thought oh well I might as well plug it up before I trash it. I lucked up and it didn't get into the LCD-YET. I'm using it now and there is one crack in the glass but a perfect picture. So, buy 2 or 3mm tape, do not press on lower right side where you see copper. Get it hot and then get it hotter- hairdryer. Take your time and remember the connectors. You understand that what you had a link to is just the outer glass and if the LED isn't broken you'll have an interesting time separating the two.
Oh, I put electrical tape where the top glass broke and its underneath the top of the plastic protector I bought. You'd have to be looking for it to notice. Sometimes you're the squirrel, sometimes the nut.
Good Luck

Hi all
I had my Nexus 5 since launch day, but in the last few months I have noticed two rather large areas of the middle of the screen are always oily or "smudged".
If I clean the screen by carefully applying sellotape and then lifting, all oil and smudges are removed, but even after cleaning my hands and using the screen lightly in the same two areas there is always a permanent smudge, and in those areas it feels different, as if the coating is removed.
I have not used any screen protectors or cleaners and I take great care of my Nexus.
It is annoying with the glare.
I haven't had a phone do this before..
I'm going to pop it back to the shop perhaps I just got a unlucky one, but I am wondering about buying a screen protector if this is an issue with the phone..
Anyone else experienced this?
Cheers

Well, I wouldn't say I'm as heavy a user as most on here!! I use it for about half an hour to an hour a day on average. My last phone never did this after 2 and a bit years of heavier usage and I wouldn't call it acceptable for the use I have done. Pretty poor if this is normal for nexus devices, although I couldn't find anything on this relating to the Nexus 5 (only 4, and that wasn't much) in my quick searches online.
I think there must have been a defect in mine which has just got worse over time as I treat this like my baby!
Here is a pic, you see the horizontal lines, almost like a "Z" shape, it appears this is where the coating has come off.

Test it add a single drop of water on the phone and move the water around by tilting the screen if the coating is still in that area it water should float and move easily without trace over the ear piece with tape for precaution do not submerge the screen or phone

There's no point. All phones with this oleophobic coating have this "problem".
2 ways to verify for certain if the oleophobic coating is gone. First, you can put a few drops of cooking oil on the screen, and try to smear it. If the coating is still there, the oil beads up instead of smearing. See here
Second, if you dare, write on the screen with a sharpie/permanent marker. If there's coating, the ink will bead up and can easily be wiped away. If not, ink will dry and can't be wiped unless you use alcohol.
I use an oleophobic screen protector like the one in the video.
I'm suffering with this problem too and I got my Nexus 5 in November. My galaxy s2 lasted 3 years with its coating and still to this day hasn't given me a spot like that.

Yeah screen protector is a different surface but once you remove it the issue is still there on the glass.

Oleophobic coatings do come off over time and with use. I never have this problem as I personally can't use a screen without a protector. Like to keep my things in pristine condition. A good glass screen protector will help you forget about your problem though.
I had his issue with my Nexus 4 after only 3 months of use, bought a screen protector to protect what coating I had left. I don't think it's down to a bad screen etc just the texture of some people's hands and the way they use it is different, my coating wore off top left right at the notification but, I'd obviously been consistently putting pressure there.

Well it's a very poor quality screen if it does this that quickly. My old HTC Desire Z lasted years with no problem and the same use. Maybe I did just get unlucky it seems a few others have the same problem...
I had it replaced by carphone warehouse but their service was useless and it took almost a month to get it changed, the first screen they replaced was covered in scratches all over!! What a disgrace, so now it has had to be opened up twice - never great for a phone and especially such an expensive and new one.
I am now using an Anker glass screen cover which feels a bit better than the standard glass, has all the coatings, is the same hardness if not harder and comes with a warranty + if they screen goes I can just replace it for around £12 without having to send it off for someone to mess up and be without my phone.
I didn't want to use a screen protector but this Anker glass one is crystal clear and does not affect anything, and I'm very fussy.
Had this happen on my S2. I got a Zagg HD screen protector at Best Buy (because they will install it and if it's not perfect they'll open another one and redo it; plus I'm clumsy and attract dust in mid-application) and it worked great for 2 years and counting. I've been itching to go get one on this phone too but keep putting it off. This thread reminded me off what I have to look forward to if I don't.
I found that using a stylus seems to hasten the erosion of the layer, at least when comparing my S2 to my wife's as well as our tablets.

Having the same issue here.
Has anyone tried to see if Google will fix it under warranty?
I should hope they would fix it under warranty! Send it back. It's a disgrace for it to happen in such a short time period.
So I finally got around to calling and I was told there wasn't much they can do about it because the phone is still fully functional even with the coating wearing off. I was told to buy a screen protector...
I'm not sure how I feel about this.
Hasn't even been 2 weeks and the screen cracked. I have had an Incipio Dual Pro case on it since I got the phone. Unfortunately, no. I have never used them before and never needed to (I have dropped phones before and never had any issues with the screen). I guess I will be using them going forward if I get another Note.....
I've seen plenty of phones that had cracked screens worth screen protectors. Personally, I don't think they prevent screen cracks at all... Scratches, yes, cracks, no.
I'd call samsung and find out what your options are. Obviously you're going to pay some money if its not covered under insurance, but with a 800$ phone, it would be worth paying to get fixed in my opinion. Around where I live there are places in the mall that would repair broken screens, but given how new this phone is it may be difficult to find a place like that with a high quality repair.
I haven't received my case in the mail yet, but the phone feels so damn nice it's a shame to have to cover it up.
Honestly if this is your first time in 15 years of owning phones to have a cracked screen, I'd say thats a fantastic record and you shouldn't feel too bad. Everyone has had a cracked screen at one point or another. Just get it repaired. There is no way you'd want to go on using the phone for a year or longer with a cracked screen, given how nice this phone is.
My suggestion for a case is to get one of the ones that wrap all the way around the phone with the front cover flip. They are not as convenient obviously, but in my opinion they are the ONLY cases that offer real screen protection. Back-only cases or even plastic/glass covers over the screen are simply not shock resistant enough if the screen manages to hit the ground first. Even back-only cases with raised bezels around the screen won't do you any good if the screen lands on an uneven surface (like rough pavement) because all it takes is one rock near the middle of the screen to destroy it after a drop.
Have samsung repair it if possible, and stick to a flip case for protection all the way around the phone, including the screen. I've had a lot of phones get cracks, scratches or dents ever since I moved to touch screen phones, and the only one I managed to keep for over a year without any damage was my HTC ONE MAX with one of the flip style cases like I mentioned. They can be a little bit of a pain to get use to at first, especially when wanting to take pictures with the camera, but the added protection over the screen is worth it in the long run in my opinion. That or invest in insurance, because this phone has glass all over it and is basically guaranteed to get some damage/cracks if it's ever dropped.

Repairing your own phone can be about more than just the money!
Repairing your own phone can be about more than just the money!
I dropped my phone and cracked the screen. I sent it to Samsung for repair. When I got it back, a week later, the left side of the home button was failing to work about 10-25% of the time. I sent it back to Samsung and the replaced the screen/LCD once again. They sent it back to via UPS on the 11-17-2015. Then it was into the New Orleans terminal on 11-18-2015 and scheduled for delivery on Thursday th 19th. It wasn't delivered. I contact UPS on Friday the 20th and was told to contact the Shipper (Samsung). I contacted Samsung and was told they would file a claim with UPS and would have the issue resolved within 8 days!! I asked the service rep why in the world would they not just go ahead and supply me with another phone? He said their protocol required them to file the claim with UPS and they wait for the UPS investigation into the missing package to be completed. I asked him had he ever heard of an investigation into a missing phone shipment result in the phone being found. He absolutely would not answer that question!!
I really, really wish I would have replaced the screen myself now!!!!! At this point I've been without my NEW Note 5 for 7days - first repair, 7 more day's - second repair and 4 days, and counting, lost/stolen during shipment. Luckily I did not sell my Note 3 after purchasing the Note 5.
Lesson learned.
the same thing happened to me yesterday. my note 5 is just 3 weeks old and it fell just about a foot above the ground; the fall wasn't that hard. i thought it wont damage the phone but when i checked, the display got this curvy like lines so i restarted the phone but the same still appeared. i checked the other parts like the camera, the sensors etc and they were all working. so i turned the phone off. after a few mins, i needed to use the internet so i turned my phone back on. i noticed a purple color developed on the top left part of the screen so i turned the screen off. after 30 mins, the purple color had already spread on different parts of the screen. now, the entire screen is covered with this purple color. i know the damage is with the LCD but its kinda weird because the screen didn't get any cracks neither were there any dents on the phone which means that the fall was not that hard. my s3 suffered worse falls and it is still alive and kicking. note 5 is for sure a very fragile phone.
Note 5 isn't any more fragile than any other phone - you just had bad luck.
For example, I've dropped my note 5 once with no case, and 2x with a thin tpu case from 4 feet to a tile floor each time and no damage.
It is purely luck on how it lands.
