I forget, is there an option to limit the files at a certain size? If you kept it high enough, it would skip the small notification alerts, etc. I haven't used it in a long time so...

This article says if you put a blank file called .nomedia the media scanner will skip that directory, but I'm not sure if that would stop the system from using them too.

Is there an option to select the folder that music is imported from? Could be that it is currently set to retrieve everything on the device instead of for example /sdcard/music
Hope this helps

no, it read all device storage!
this is yet another reason why 99% of people Don't use the stock music player, the 2 typical options are to put all your music on the external sd card and then put a .nomedia file on the root of the internal as has already been mentioned, but even that is not perfect as the stock media scanner sucks balls, it will skip perfectly good songs just because of some kind of error in there ID3 tags aswell, for these reasons it is best to get a BETTER player with most importantly it's own media scanner, personally I use POWERAMP, it will allow you to select only specific folders, or the file size thing, like mentioned before and doesn't have the faults of the stock scanner (I had like 40 more mp3's come up on it's scanner versus the stock one).

If I download music it will sometimes put the majority of songs into the correct album but then will list some as TBD or will list the wrong artist..
Anyone know how to edit these files to change the album name/artist?

if you are using Winamp, i believe its ALT+L to bring up the ID3 tag editor. Or you could use a great free program called MP3Tag.
You can download it here: http://www.mp3tag.de/en/
Easy Music fix
Hook it up the a computer and download HTC drivers put your phone in drive mode and edit the file properties like you would if you were renaming a file (IE Right click on the file and click on properties), album, artist, etc. Make sure if you want all the song just one folder with no subfolder you keep it all clear and only put in the artist. If you love ACDC just list under Artist ACDC and leave the album and all others clear. This will save you from clicking sub folders to open your music.

hi guys
I'm using an ics rom (nexusbeam 4.1) and that's my little problem:
in music players some albums are not displayed but i've copied them inside the phone memory like the others that are displayed??
with root explorer I see in the same folder all the albums but when I open music apps some albums are not present :-o
Thanks for helping!!

Are the albums you don't see inside their own folder or with songs from other albums? They might be under the album named after the folder. Do a search for the filename/song, too.
Edit: Also note, this is probably the case if there is no ID3 tags on these particular songs/albums.

thanks friend but i'm having a look at my albums
they are all ordered rightly 'cause I've always used to listen to them before even using music apps in my nexus...
as you can see in the pics they are all in folders but in my music apps they are not all displayed...
Odd. Have you tried clearing the cache for the music app?

Search the market for "Cover Art Downloader" (sorry I can't post links yet )
I had a similar problem and I was able to use this app to "force" music player apps to recognise cover art, either by downloading what it thought was the correct artwork or in my case picking images off the SD card. Worth a try!

I just used the free version - my issue was slightly different to yours in that Winamp was using the wrong album art for albums and no amount of cache clearing or messing with IDv3 tags would fix it, this app fixed it for me. Hope it works!
Hi there. Okay so I've tried Album Art Grabber and Cover Downloader on the market. My album artwork still isn't showing up on the stock ICS music player wtf -_-. Does anybody know how I can get the artwork to be displayed it is bothering me D:

I have player pro and it works dine with player pro, but I've grown to like the ICS music app. What would I have to name the files? And is there a specific extension? Cause I have a folder with artwork with an unreadable file extension

I had the same issue with the native Music app.
I couldn't see the covers after using Album Art Grabber etc.
But after I cleared the data of the music app, it fetched all the artwork.
So after using the art grabber, you should go to settings => apps => All => Music. There you push the button 'Clear data'. So you DON't have to do it all manually...
Good luck!

Why? There is a widget in the status bar whenever you listen to music ... I don't see a point for it . You can also look into headset controller and set the controls with double press of the button etc

Hey all,
I am trying to sync music that I downloaded on my nexus 7 to my s3 via Google play music. I know it sounds like an an easy thing to do but I can't figure it out. The music was not downloaded from Google music though and I think that might be part of the issue. Any thoughts?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
It needs to be put into the Google music cloud through the computer. Once your music is in the cloud you can get it on any device with your account on it.

How long have you waited? Often when I install Play Music it seems like nothing is there then I go back and an hour later all my music has thumbnails.

So basically if I have music on one device it has to go onto the PC then into the cloud? There isn't a way to just upload it from any device?

I think Google is trying to help prevent piracy by adding another layer here. But they require you to use a PC. I would strip metadata from the songs ie:downloaded from.... You never know what they will be monitoring. Many cloud services get a bit nosy with your files. Not saying Google has, but you do agree to only upload music you have legally purchased. Also you may have problems with legally owned music due to DRM, I highly recommend Wondershare media converter to strip DRM, and media monkey to manage libraries.
I can't even find my music with google music manager

I can't even find my music on my phone when I connect my phone usb and try to upload music. When I did find a folder with a cpl albums it would't upload em, as if they didn't exist wtf???? I go to an album click to select it and it says folder empty. I googled around and finally found this post which hit on my problem. I also see where you gave advice to strip the data from music or something if you didn't legally buy it
(110% of my music is dl from internet for free) and I'm thinking that may be my problem. If so can someone give a detailed explanation as to how I can fix this prob? Thanx in advance man!
