Google play music - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey all,
I am trying to sync music that I downloaded on my nexus 7 to my s3 via Google play music. I know it sounds like an an easy thing to do but I can't figure it out. The music was not downloaded from Google music though and I think that might be part of the issue. Any thoughts?

It needs to be put into the Google music cloud through the computer. Once your music is in the cloud you can get it on any device with your account on it.

How long have you waited? Often when I install Play Music it seems like nothing is there then I go back and an hour later all my music has thumbnails.

So basically if I have music on one device it has to go onto the PC then into the cloud? There isn't a way to just upload it from any device?

I think Google is trying to help prevent piracy by adding another layer here. But they require you to use a PC. I would strip metadata from the songs ie:downloaded from.... You never know what they will be monitoring. Many cloud services get a bit nosy with your files. Not saying Google has, but you do agree to only upload music you have legally purchased. Also you may have problems with legally owned music due to DRM, I highly recommend Wondershare media converter to strip DRM, and media monkey to manage libraries.

I can't even find my music with google music manager

I can't even find my music on my phone when I connect my phone usb and try to upload music. When I did find a folder with a cpl albums it would't upload em, as if they didn't exist wtf???? I go to an album click to select it and it says folder empty. I googled around and finally found this post which hit on my problem. I also see where you gave advice to strip the data from music or something if you didn't legally buy it
(110% of my music is dl from internet for free) and I'm thinking that may be my problem. If so can someone give a detailed explanation as to how I can fix this prob? Thanx in advance man!

[REQ]Zune media player, possible or not

Now I am no dev but I was wondering if it would be possible to create a media player that can sync with the desktop zune software and have a similar UI that plays all my protected content. I love my zune hd but part of the reason I bought this phone is so I only need to carry one device for all my multimedia needs. If this is possible ad there are any devs willing to work I would gladly make a donation of $50-$100 for a working app
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I would wager 10x that amount that it will never happen..
I have a ZuneHD and f*ckin love it. However, Microsoft won't do it because thats one of the big draws for WP7, and we can't do it because there is no code to base it on. It's all Microsoft's protected content.
However, there is one option. I don't think its against any XDA rules to post this, and if it is I'll remove it, but I won't put links anyway. Just look up Daniusoft Digital Media Converter. I know it's expensive, ~$50 I think, but I bought it, and it's totally worth it. I have gotten way more use than that out of it. It'll let you convert your Zune Pass music to MP3 and then you can sync it to your Android with Doubletwist & the like. I know it's more work, but it does work.

But at that point, why not just download torrents with higher quality music? I mean, you could make the argument I guess that you have a right to that music even though you are explicitly only renting it .? ?.? . Save the 50 dollars and just join a good private torrent site like what or waffles.
Also, to the OP, if you only want to carry the Epic 4g for all of your multimedia needs, why do you need it to sync with the Zune software? I assume its because of the zune pass?

I don't know. I find this easier than torrent sites TBH. I'm a lazy ass, and I paid for convenience lol. This way it keeps all the metadata, and I don't have to sort it manually, and I do feel better in that I did actually pay for the music in one way or another.
I don't subscribe to zunepass or anything, I just have a lot of songs and movies I've paid for and would like them on my phone, and TBH I really like the zune media player interface
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
For a zune interface, they do have a zune home replacement launcher but it's pretty awful. Really if you want the zune media interface get a windows phone 7... what you're asking for is foolish to be frank.
If you paid for movies and music, it should be drm free, then just transfer it to your sd card. Its what I do.

Not sure how you could call it foolish? It is widely accepted that the zune hd has a great interface. It is also very simple and would be fairly easy for an android developer to make a clone of it. The fact that no one has is pretty surprising. Hooking in drm and zunepass is obviously not gonna fly with ms but that is not what the op wants, and that is not needed. If someone made a fluid zune clone for the marketplace and sold it for a few bucks a I bet they could make a killing.

What do you mean they didnt play? I have the zune pass and with my ten songs a month. Those tracks are currently on my phone and they place with no problem. Videos as well. I did how ever have to use rockplayer for the videos. But the stock player worked fine for the mp3's.
Edit: I also did have to edit the tags to get them to show up... Can just edit the tags, right click the file -> props then add in whats needed. Forgot that part. =p

Google Music Questions

(re-posting this in relevant board, sorry for duplicate)
Hi Guys,
I gather not many people actually use Google Music in the UK due to the required work arounds to get it but I am quite interested in using it.
For those who do/have used it:
Do you like it?
Is it worth the work around hassle to gain access?
Will getting it now via the workaround cause problems when it's actually released?
What worthy alternative services are there that aren't iTunes/iCloud/Match?
I want a music service in which I can own my music as well as purchase music, add my existing music to the service, and sync between devices.
I feel like there's nothing that does that apart from iTunes Match and Google Music
I love it, its my everyday music player... I no longer keep music files on my phone because I stream it from the cloud.
Likewise. I have been using it for a few months and it is absolutely life-changing. I just uploaded my entire music collection and now just stream it all instead of having it stored on my phone or memory card.
But how do you guys upload it in countries other than US?

If you need the APK to get the app on your phone, how do you get updates?
Do you have to use a proxy only to sign up or do you need it for desktop streaming?
Can your purchase music in the app?
Once you register via proxy you can use it anywhere, Play store for music doesn't work but who cares.
You only need the proxy for initial registration. For everything else, no proxy required. So in reality, its very little effort for lots of awsomeness

Stream Music From Drop Box

Since HTC One X does not have external sd card and most of us got 25gb free drop box space, I thought this would be helpful for ppl who want to stream music from drop box.
Reason in writing in this topic: My HTC One X was my first android device and I did not knew that we could stream music from drop box, so I wanted to list all the apps which I came across in my search. I hope this helps noobs like me.
Note* - Mod's if you feel this topic is unnecessary plz delete it
1) AnTek Explorer + AnTek Drop box / Box.net client
Free App, Music player is good (with Equalizer)
Read this to known more about how to add your drop box or box account - http://anttek.com/playing-music-with-anttek-explorer/
2) Just Player
After you install Just Player you need to install Drop box music provider
Free and Good music player .
3) Dropsync
Full two-way sync. Just like Dropbox on desktop
Instant upload: new files (for example photos) are uploaded to Dropbox immediately, no need to wait for the next autosync cycle
You can buy the pro version to get more futures such as
Sync multiple folders
* Sync the whole Dropbox with a folder on your phone or tablet
* Upload files larger than 5 MB
* No ads, of course
Finally if someone did not get 25gb free drop box space they can get free 50gb box space - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18221721

Audiogalaxy is the best thing I've found to stream my entire library from home. It's free. 6 or 7 of my friends are logged on too. If you have good quality source music, audiogalaxy will sound as great, better than anything else I've tried. It caches the next song so its ready as soon as you hit next. You can also login fom any computer by going to audiogalaxy.com and stream your library.

While I have found streaming music from dropbox to be very convenient, a major downside for me is the fact that it consumes a lot of your allotted data. Especially if you have a bunch of 320 kbps songs like I do. Memory really is this phones only major drawback, however I just tend to keep my library updated and it hasn't bothered me too much. 16 GB is still a lot of music.
I prefer storing pictures and videos on cloud since I view them much less frequently than I listen to music, so when I do need to access the pictures or videos I use a lot less data. Just my 2 cents

But that's only if your music is .mp3 or .flac (and you're willing to just listen to mp3 on the go). If you have a whole bunch of music from iTunes, Google Music is a terrible idea since it transcodes .m4a to .mp3. Amazon is a good idea too right now, but it does cost $25/year but it will just match a whole bunch of music rather than doing uploads.

Exactly. Just have to have an always on computer (like my cheap server I built with second hand parts that cost me <100$) and an always on internet connection.
Setup is even easy with subsonic because you get a yourname.subsonic.org address so you don't have to remember your own IP address.

subsonic is incredible. If you aren't using it, you're missing out. I have nearly 8TB of lossless music I've collected over the years and I stream from all over the world. And myself and ~10 colleagues at the office stream all day. It's an easy setup and it just works....and the caching support on the android app is pure gravy.

[Q] Apple to Android Problem

Ok finally getting my wife talked into getting an android phone. The Problem is her Itunes library. Its huge!! Is there any legal way to get all her media to work on an android device. I think this will be a deal breaker if we cant and I am sooooo sick of apple and Itunes. Can anyone help?
If you get a Samsung device then you can use Kies just like she would use iTunes with her iPhone! (It even works via WiFi)

One way easily transfer her media content that is perfectly legal, is to navigate to the folder where iTunes stores it's media and then copy that folder to her phones sdcard (Either internal storage or external storage). For example say you wanted to copy her music, go the iTunes music folder on your computer's hard drive, select the folder and copy the folder to her phones storage. You can then repeat this process for any videos, pictures, etc. she has stored in iTunes to transfer them to her phone. When copying music from iTunes to the phone it may ask if you want to covert the music to be playable on the phone, select yes and let it convert the music which will then be playable on her phone.
Agree with above. Just find the files and copy them over like you would with a usb drive. Sooner you break free from Apple the better

Check out google play music. You can store up to 20 000 songs on their server for free. Then just keep the rest on the device with a 32/64GB sd card

Yes it will, open play music on the same PC as all the stored music and sync it to the cloud, then make sure the app is on the phone and either play from the cloud or download to phone.
Otherwise just transfer music to sd

MusicBee. For Windows, it's the best, really. My library is in FLAC and it converts to MP3 on the fly.
You can choose to sync with specific playlists and it does send the playlists to the device. There's an option to send the content of the playlist(s) but not the playlist(s) themselves as well.
