What files do I need to modify to increase maximum levels for the speakers?
Mainly when I plug my xoom into its media dock there is no difference in volume from the speaker built into the xoom to the media dock. I would like to have it where it is at least twice as loud as the build in speakers not the same. I am running running the latest cm10.1 nightly with elemental 1.2 kernel

Although it is designed primarily for playing videos, MX player, downloadable from Google Play will also play music files. It has a volume control that will give the kind of output you want.

Sorry, I don't understand your post. Increasing the volume output from your tablet using MX Player has no effect on volume output from your media dock? Have you tried MX Player?

You can control volume level inside MX Player by dragging your finger up or down on the right side of the screen. You will discover MX Player will significantly exceed the volume level attained by other media players. I don't know if there are other players that also have this feature. If listening through earphones confirms what I have described it should also increase the volume at your dock.

Is there sound if you use headphones? If so, I'd suspect you may have a poor contact between the tablet and dock, loose or broken wire. And, if there is no sound when using headphones the problem may be with the female connector integral to your tablet. I assume the tablet speakers work.

Sounds like a problem you may wish to share with the cm10.1 developers. I'd drop into their Forum and post details - especially the fact restoring the nano backup enables sound at the dock.

I have a MZ601 Xoom running JB Team EOS 4.2.2 Umts Everest specifically for the MZ601 EU 3g.
If there is a JB ROM or other ROM option for your device you may benefit by trying them. The EOS Team is very supportive and responsive.

I also installed it but it wasn't working properly...screen was flickering and my mp3 files refused to play....uninstalled until a better version is released.
I tested the 07-26-12 and the 07-30-12 with my HOX and TF700, HOX wouldn't work any more (did work with the 07-20-12 release) but TF700 works fine (as in: it plays video's choppy.. no hardware support, but music is fine)

I've had pretty good luck with it, but have only tried a few videos. I'm not a huge fan of the touchscreen skin they include, but its a start. I think the default skin almost works better. I hope they get the keyboard shortcuts working, as that would be nice with the dock (i've long had them memorized).
It will be nice if more people come out with android/touchscreen specific skins.

I have 2012-09-04 now... Some MKV files will now work. Lots of hickups (now i use MX Player for MKV)
Yes mkv gave me stuttering buy the files i streamed were mp4 if i remember right. Im using that version as well. They say most of the problems with the stuttering is the lack of the hw drivers...or something to that extent

For some reason my tf101 has terrible audio quality and is not very load my droid x phone is 1.5x louder than my tablet and compared to my droid x the audio quality when plugged in with headphones is terrible choppy and tinny. An equalizer does nothing :crying:
Any help would be appreciated.
Try the KAT Audio app. It helps considerably. You can find it in the development forum.

I meant headphone volume. Tried flashing beats, using the proper procedure and resulted in a black, backlit screen, phone wouldn't boot.

Search in photon q forum history - it was my thread.
edit : I have found it

I use PowerAmp and it let's you mess with the replay gain and has a pre-amp in the equalizer which both increase the headphone volume. Not exactly sure how but I usually tweak both till I find a setting to my liking. On software version 14 and haven't really needed it except to change a particular volume level because the stock ones are in between what I like.
I've been on ASA14 since first time I bought my Photon Q. I think it's so loud and better than my Atrix HD audio output.
Yeah, I use power amp myself...good app, but still looking to increase overall output, the preamp works only to a certain degree. I am searching more for a build.prop edit or app to actually increase output from the system itself, not limited to one particular application. But thanks!

Not true. It wouldn't sound like true 7.1 but there's lots of software emulation out there for surround sound. Take any device with a Surround and Stereo option with stereo headset, speakers, earbuds etc and there's a marked difference. Not as good as having real 7.1 hardware but it's an improvement depending on what you're listening to (I like it better for movies but it's not good for music typically).

Not to hear a difference, you don't. Have you honestly not ever heard of virtual surround on stereo speakers? It's been around since the 5.1 days. It sounds no where near as good as having actual surround sound hardware but there is a big difference in sound. Naturally if you prefer it is dependent on you but there IS a difference. As I stated earlier, I found it to be an improvement for movies but not music.
