so now that we have a working sd card is there any way to change the save location of the browser and camera to the new working sd card?
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
is there anything special to get the SD slot working? Mine still doesn't seem to be doing anything.
Well, in my opinion, which may be wrong...and probably is.
The new sd mod mounts the actual sd as /sdcard2/.
The problem i see with this is all the apps are looking for /sdcard/.
Now I think the best way to handle it would be to symlink /sdcard/ and /sdcard2/ as one volume.
The problem with that is that the volume manager would probably freak the **** out when you take your sdcard out of the device.
I don't know though, maybe bigrush or whoever got it working has this thought out better than I would have - but I am a software developer, not a kernel developer. That **** hurts my head.
Right now, i don't have an extra SD card worth my time of putting in (biggest extra I have is 8 gigs).
The only point I really see in it at the moment is extra space available from a file manager.
I am not sure if media scanner has to be modified to include the new directory to pic up on pictures, movies, and audio.

Lol root your xoom and flash the new tiamat 1.3.0 kernel
oh, maybe ill just break down and root it... I didn't really see any point until now with the lack of roms out for this so far.
I have already flashed my xoom, with the original one button flash. The new version does not have a way like the original to just one button the kernel. Will I have to re-root everything and go from there or will it sense that I am already rooted and take me to changing the kernel to be able to use the sdcard?

if you use the newest one click method with tiamat 1.3.1 you will be wiping your xoom's data back to stock as well. which means you'll have to setup your xoom again and reinstall all your apps again.
if you want to just flash the newest kernel w/out wiping the data just follow the instructions on this page:

Hi Everyone,
My name is Andrew, and I am a bit of an Android n00b.
This week I tried to install the 2.3 Gingerbread leak on my Droid X.
I used the Droid bootstrap to install the Gingerbread from my SD card.
I wiped my cache and factory reset everything first.
LONG VERSION:
However, when I try to boot it, I get stuck on the Motorola logo.
The good news: I can boot into the boot-loader and recovery mode, but I can't do much from there, as "factory reset" option doesn't fix the ROM.
More bad news: Although I copied the contents of my SD card to my Laptop, my friend accidentally broke it. I'm currently SD card-less right now.
SHORT VERSION:
- Boot-loop on Motorola logo after attempted Gingerbread install
- Stock SD card broken
- SD card pre-wipe data saved on laptop
- Able to access recovery mode and boot-loader
QUESTIONS:
1. Will buying a new (generic) micro SD card fix my broken SD problems? If so, is there compatibility issues with SD card storage sizes? (e.g will a 32gb SD work, because my stock SD was 16gb)
2. Is it possible to get a ROM (Stock Froyo, Gingerbread, or Custom...) onto the droid?
3. If I just tell Verizon that I tried to reset my droid X to stock and it stopped working, does that void my warranty, and can they tell if I'm lying?
4. Does the missing micro SD card mess-up my warranty for the phone hardware?
5. If I can't get a ROM on there, is it possible for Verizon to via the boot-loader?
I haven't been able to find a problem quite like mine that has been resoleved.
If you know of (a) thread(s) that answers these questions, please link them!
Thanks SO much to any Android 1337 H4X0RZ who respond.
Sorry for this being so long!
Thanks again,
Andrew (AMcKeeCT)
You're fine but if your SD card is broke you'll probably want to get a new one. What you can do is SBF back to stock, which you don't need an SD card for. Search for SBF or back to stock in the DX forums.

Thanks for the quick reply!
Will do with the SBF and new card.
No problem! Its a good idea to be familiar with the SBF procedure in case something goes wrong and after you've done it once or twice its pretty simple

Fat fingers the touch recovery......I just killed the internal SD,
Can I just reinstall ROM ? or do I need to do something else, first...
I tried to reinstall rom from external but stuck on boot animation, but not boot looping.
Thanks
Ignore!
Its almost like it cant find the internal card.
I tried to instal from internal SD...just to see if I can see any directories
and say no files found, and kicks me out.
When I do mount USB storage, only my EXT shows up, no internal no longer pops up.....am I screwed ?
How can I confirm my internal SD card is mounted/unmounted properly.
Thanks for any help
Can you get into recovery or download mode?
If you can get into download mode I would probably just reflash stock firmware and start over.
I tried that, I did ODIN to stock, it loaded the bootloader, but was stuck on boot loops again.
As far as I can tell, phone isnt seeing the internal SD card. Or I am missing the steps to make the phone see it via clock work.
I can access CWM, and DL mode.... in CWM, I can do mount USB, only my EXT shows up.
I format the internal sd(emmc) before every rom flash. Just install rom from external sd card. There is nothing left on the emmc, you wiped it
I think I m hosed....
I think something went wrong with format.
I tried to reinstall ROM, and during install
error: cant mount csdard.adnoird.secure etc...
what version of cwm?
It touch clock work mod recovery. v.5.8.1.3
Error message is
Formatting /sdcard/.andoird_secure...
Error mounting /sdcard/.android_secure!
Question, are able to mount and see internal SD, after the format emmc via usb storage on PC ? Right now only the EXT shows up for me if I USB mount

I don't use that recovery. I use 5.8. I don't use internal to do anything, I always use external to flash from and store my important stuff. After a while of flashing things the emmc gets jammed up with nonsense.
Just use 5.8 touch, the have to mount and put hidden process folders in that version you have sucks.
Any chance you can link me to the recovery you use, I want to make sure I have the same one.
Thanks you again for the help. Its very appriciated

Awesome job xcrazydx, helping this guy out!!
Good to see a potential train wreck that I'm not part of, get fixed so quickly & expertly!!
Just curious, what's the difference between the two versions of CWM Touch, I'm wondering because I am also using 5.1.8.3? Is it the recovery image, or is this Touch the one developed on xda?

The 5.8 is actually a hercules version for the tmo variant. The sk8er 5.5 or whatever it is, is a version adapted specifically for the rocket, and supposedly it performs the wipe and fix functions correctly. As long as you set it up right and put the hiddenprocess folder and mount sd every time you use it. Last I knew it still won't see both sd cards at the same time. I just don't like dicking around with all that stuff.
Sk8er could probably give you a better explanation of them, I think it even mentions it throughout his thread. I have no problems with the 5.8 version and I couldn't recommend the OP on how to navigate the version he had because I don't use it. So I just moved him to the version I use. Lol

What is a "GS"?
If the "GS" is Android, you can try this way:
Settings | Applications | Manage applications | Downloaded | Move to SD Card

How to install apps on SD
I did it many time and I think that to fully install apps on SD you need to know its steps:
1. Root phone.
2. Partition your SD card
3. Install app that help move all data app on SD, such as Link2SD, S2E, ...
all that stuff u can find on Google or just in xda forum. they talk 'bout that every day
But I think maybe U did it all but still got unsuccessful. I think 2GB internal storage is big enough to install app and U don't need to try anymore. Just choose what app to keep and what not to keep for your phone. GS III is a smart expensive phone, Is your matter deserve to try? I just have 180MB internal storage (Mini) and do a lot of stuff just to get more 500MB, but I lost 1 SD-Card dear
if you have a locked phone(not rooted) its up to every applications security settings if you can move it to sd or not.
This setting is deprecated on Google Play and new apps will have licensing service , but for now its up to developer choice.
thx all, i have find, i cgange a file sytem vlag if i think and work.
My sd card isnt detected
I was flashed and running with s-off. I was using 4K atom azul for the evo 4g. I wanted to be able to use my FFC but i couldnt figure it out with that rom. and then i decided to upgraded to the one that look like black beans but is made by team dirt. hated the fact i couldnt use my camera so i reverted back. after reverting back i got the 5 vibrations thing and black screen. Now i have my s-on and did the ruu. after several failed attempts my phone suddenly booted back to the 4k atom azul. i was stoked that i knew how to get it back but now i have no way of using the wifi or bluetooth, and plus my sd card is not found by any program says i have it mounted and when i go to settings to unmount it says to insert a sdcard. i have my 32 gb sd card in there. I dont know why my phone is no longer rooted. and i am scared to pull the battery out and try anything because of the simple fact i might not have a phone for another couple days and i about drove myself crazy not having a phone.
a little info:
I had s-off and idk what else... other than using amon ra for recovery image and formatting and reset factory data before installing another rom. it became an addiction to get another rom every week. and now i am stuck in the situation described above.
I have been doing the reboot over and over the past couple days before i got the 5 vibrations fixed back to normal, that the information below is what i remember from trying to recover...
supersonic evt3 ship s-on
hboot-2.10.0001
microp-041f
touch panel-amtel224_16ab
radio-2.15.00.11.19
oct 15 2010, 12:07:00
This above might not be exactly right.
I used a PC36IMG.zip file that i had after reformatting my sd card. it would not run the PC36IMG.zip file that i put on the root and recover my system so i had to do the ruu thing...
It would read something like this below...
Loading...[PC36DIAG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[PC36DIAG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
Loading...[PC36IMG.zip]
and it would successfully read the PC36IMG.zip but would not restore and a little scroll bar as it read the file would come up... i used fastboot usb and miraculously i have my 4K atom that i tried to reflash on my evo before it messed up.
I know that i still have s-on but it puzzles me how i have the s-on and running a rooted rom. my hotspot works and so does the GPS and navigation, i just can not connect to my wifi, or boot back into recovery without getting the black screen and 5 vibes of diagnostic so i am kinda stuck. My phone will send text and call out and let me download apps for what little internal memory i have on it; I hate i dont have an sd card to save pictures too, or and sd card to put music on to play in the car...
Thank everyone for your time, I just joined today but I have been a flashing freak for the last year or so once i figured out how to do it. I used unrevoked as my flashing software. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Usually my phone gives me the option to move recently downloaded or updated apps to the sd card...
Well, this one was not really asked for, but I need it for my other testing, and I imagine people might be interested in having the option.
This is also a bit more like a proof of concept (and a bit crude at that), even though fully functional - Stock ROM fully bootable from sdcard.
I don't think a lot of people would use this as a daily driver, but it certainly beats having stock on sdcard vs needing to restore stock in EMMC every time you need to test one little thing (or you might buy a few more Nooks, I guess. B&N would certainly appreciate that ).
Limitations and differences from real stock:
- currently there's no access to emmc storage partition as I wanted the setup to remain as vanilla as needed at first
- adb is on by default, though (As root).
- You can actually change files in /system as much as you want - secure mode is off.
For ovation (Nook HD+) You'll need a special ovation image that you'll need to write to an sdcard, at least 4G in size. (gunzip and use dd or winImage)
For hummingbird (Nook HD) You'll need a special hummingbird CWM image that you'll need to write to an sdcard, at least 4G in size. (gunzip and use dd or winImage)
Also get the the stock image (see below) and either place it to internal storage or reboot from the card and use adb push it to /sdcard (basically it's like you install CM ROM, refer to user-friendly thread in General if you cannot follow my condensed instructions here, only use different file name). Note this already has gapps and other stuff, so you don't need any additional installs other than stock at the beginning.
Stock images:
For ovation: stock-ovation-2.2.0.zip (If you are upgrading from 2.1.1 or before, you also need to flash cyanoboot-ovation-2.zip)
For hummingbird: stock-hummingbird-2.2.0-new.zip (If you are upgrading from 2.1.1 or before, you also need to flash cyanoboot-hummingbird-1.zip)
So after you install this thing, reboot. CWM will warn you that the image is not rooted. Decide for yourself if you want to root on the spot or not.
The dimmed Cyanoboot logo will stay on for quite a while (52 seconds for me) - don't worry, it's doing something.
You'll be able to adb in about halfway through that.
Then you'll see familiar Nook Stock white booting screen, this one will stop at 99% - again no fears, it takes quite a while here till the thing rebuilds the caches, on my class4 sandisk it takes 2m40s
Once it's done - you'll be prompted to register and all that.
Now you are done, enjoy.
Now I also have a script to automate creation of the stock zips for sdcard install, so you no longer need o wait for me to create these files
History:
Old Stock images:
For ovation: stock-ovation-2.1.0.zip stock-ovation-2.1.1.zip - these need a special old ovation image
For hummingbird: stock-hummingbird-2.1.1.zip - these need a special old hummingbird CWM image
This is awesome. This way if users want to dual boot, they can put stock on SD, CM10.1 on emmc and not worry about resetting stock. That way they can add things to stock /system directly. Curious to see if the CWM root works.
Thanks for this.

Hello, I am/was planning to install this alongside my CM10.1 EMMC setup, but now that I reread this thread -again- it doesn't seem to have a way to dual boot. I mean when SD would be inserted it would boot to Stock, when not it would boot to CM, but the ideal would to be able to switch from one OS to another w/t having to add/remove the SD card quite as frequently, no?

You can dual boot if you go to my post here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42295360.
Follow the directions there and it will put the cyanoboot menu on the SD. Then you can change the default to boot to emmc instead of SD if you want. Just remember the terminology is backwards though, stock means emmc and CM10.1 means SD.
Then every time it boots with the SD inserted it will boot to emmc and if you want it to boot fully to SD, just press the n key to get to the menu and choose CM10.1 (SD).

Whoah! That's exactly what I was looking for, didn't know it would work with "Stock-SD" .
Thanks, as always, leap
Now all it remains is to find a way to enable "unknown sources" to this rom and I'll be set (the method used for "emmc-stock" doesn't work here unfortunately).
Again thanks (both to VG and leap, and to the rest of the community that may have helped )
Hello, sorry to double post (and bump this thread) but I found out why's it impossible to enable "unkown sources" using the "extras.zip" that is been given to leaplinlar's thread. Apparently it searches for the EMMC partition whereupon it tries to enable the changes (install zeam, enable "unknown sources", etc). Given that this install uses the SD-card one would only need to redirect "uknown sources" script to search (and run on) SD card.
Given my non-experience in writing android-scripts I found a hard time to do just that, so if leap or anyone else would be able to modify the script (and post it as a flashable zip if possible) so that to run on an external stock setup, I think, it's something that belongs in this thread as it's the only thing missing from VeryGreen's experimental rom (it actually runs perfectly, root included, it only lacks "unknown sources")...
Again thanks, to all involved, for your work.

Just one thing to add (sorry for the double post): This solution does not work as it interferes with VG's method to boot stock from SD. Upon replacing the boot files, it would simply refuse to boot to Stock (SD), it will hang on the selection screen. The EMMC setup -of course- will boot just fine, so I guess that/this need to be reworked as well ... sadly.
Thanks anyhow
