Hi Everyone,
My name is Andrew, and I am a bit of an Android n00b.
This week I tried to install the 2.3 Gingerbread leak on my Droid X.
I used the Droid bootstrap to install the Gingerbread from my SD card.
I wiped my cache and factory reset everything first.
LONG VERSION:
However, when I try to boot it, I get stuck on the Motorola logo.
The good news: I can boot into the boot-loader and recovery mode, but I can't do much from there, as "factory reset" option doesn't fix the ROM.
More bad news: Although I copied the contents of my SD card to my Laptop, my friend accidentally broke it. I'm currently SD card-less right now.
SHORT VERSION:
- Boot-loop on Motorola logo after attempted Gingerbread install
- Stock SD card broken
- SD card pre-wipe data saved on laptop
- Able to access recovery mode and boot-loader
QUESTIONS:
1. Will buying a new (generic) micro SD card fix my broken SD problems? If so, is there compatibility issues with SD card storage sizes? (e.g will a 32gb SD work, because my stock SD was 16gb)
2. Is it possible to get a ROM (Stock Froyo, Gingerbread, or Custom...) onto the droid?
3. If I just tell Verizon that I tried to reset my droid X to stock and it stopped working, does that void my warranty, and can they tell if I'm lying?
4. Does the missing micro SD card mess-up my warranty for the phone hardware?
5. If I can't get a ROM on there, is it possible for Verizon to via the boot-loader?
I haven't been able to find a problem quite like mine that has been resoleved.
If you know of (a) thread(s) that answers these questions, please link them!
Thanks SO much to any Android 1337 H4X0RZ who respond.
Sorry for this being so long!
Thanks again,
Andrew (AMcKeeCT)
You're fine but if your SD card is broke you'll probably want to get a new one. What you can do is SBF back to stock, which you don't need an SD card for. Search for SBF or back to stock in the DX forums.

Thanks for the quick reply!
Will do with the SBF and new card.
No problem! Its a good idea to be familiar with the SBF procedure in case something goes wrong and after you've done it once or twice its pretty simple

Hi all,
I am a noob, first post. I purchased my XOOM (WiFi version) one week ago. I was led to believe it was stock (it is 2 mo. old) and have discovered that it has been rooted and modded. Here is the Device Info:
Android Version 3.2
Kernel Version 2.6.36.4-Tiamat_Xoom-v2.1.0-Tachi-StockGPU-gcef3887
It did not come with an SD card. I purchased one today (16gb). Are there critical files missing that were on the original sd card?! Thanx in advance.
To further clarify; if I wish to factory reset the device, are there files that I will need on the sd card other than a current backup?
the stock xoom didnt come with an sd card. it didnt even support it initally. hitting the restore to default button will not remove your root.

What exactly do you want to do with your Xoom? It is great to already be rooted and that Tachi kernel is a big improvement over stock. Do you just want to clean out the previous owners stuff and make it more yours? Or do you want to go back to a pure stock state?
That is a good question. I guess my main concern is that I am able to mod my device without any problems that the previous owner may have caused by removing critical files on the SD card. I'm a little paranoid as I am just beginning to learn.
I discovered a clockworkmod recovery file "recovery-clockwork-4.0.0.4-stingray.img" in the internal memory. I don't understand what that file is. Is this a stock recovery file?

ClockworkMod recovery is a custom recovery. It is installed when rooting and is a great improvement over the stock recovery because it allows you to make a complete system image so you can experiment with new rom or kernel and always be able to restore to a previous state if you're dissatisfied or if something goes wrong. Also, with the right version you can save files to your external micro sdcard [you purchase it.it does not come with the Xoom] and flash them through your CWM recovery menu. However, version 4.0.0.4, the one you have installed, doesn't recognize the external sdcard. You will need to install version 3.2.0.0 R4c.
Thanks for the info, I will install version 3.2.0.0 R4c. Looks like the previous owner saved me some work.
Hi, i have a clone of GS, and i have 3 storage:

What is a "GS"?
If the "GS" is Android, you can try this way:
Settings | Applications | Manage applications | Downloaded | Move to SD Card

You can't do many with internal storage unless you root your phone. What i know about internal storage is cannot be partitioned.

How to install apps on SD
I did it many time and I think that to fully install apps on SD you need to know its steps:
1. Root phone.
2. Partition your SD card
3. Install app that help move all data app on SD, such as Link2SD, S2E, ...
all that stuff u can find on Google or just in xda forum. they talk 'bout that every day
But I think maybe U did it all but still got unsuccessful. I think 2GB internal storage is big enough to install app and U don't need to try anymore. Just choose what app to keep and what not to keep for your phone. GS III is a smart expensive phone, Is your matter deserve to try? I just have 180MB internal storage (Mini) and do a lot of stuff just to get more 500MB, but I lost 1 SD-Card dear
if you have a locked phone(not rooted) its up to every applications security settings if you can move it to sd or not.
This setting is deprecated on Google Play and new apps will have licensing service , but for now its up to developer choice.
thx all, i have find, i cgange a file sytem vlag if i think and work.
My sd card isnt detected
I was flashed and running with s-off. I was using 4K atom azul for the evo 4g. I wanted to be able to use my FFC but i couldnt figure it out with that rom. and then i decided to upgraded to the one that look like black beans but is made by team dirt. hated the fact i couldnt use my camera so i reverted back. after reverting back i got the 5 vibrations thing and black screen. Now i have my s-on and did the ruu. after several failed attempts my phone suddenly booted back to the 4k atom azul. i was stoked that i knew how to get it back but now i have no way of using the wifi or bluetooth, and plus my sd card is not found by any program says i have it mounted and when i go to settings to unmount it says to insert a sdcard. i have my 32 gb sd card in there. I dont know why my phone is no longer rooted. and i am scared to pull the battery out and try anything because of the simple fact i might not have a phone for another couple days and i about drove myself crazy not having a phone.
a little info:
I had s-off and idk what else... other than using amon ra for recovery image and formatting and reset factory data before installing another rom. it became an addiction to get another rom every week. and now i am stuck in the situation described above.
I have been doing the reboot over and over the past couple days before i got the 5 vibrations fixed back to normal, that the information below is what i remember from trying to recover...
supersonic evt3 ship s-on
hboot-2.10.0001
microp-041f
touch panel-amtel224_16ab
radio-2.15.00.11.19
oct 15 2010, 12:07:00
This above might not be exactly right.
I used a PC36IMG.zip file that i had after reformatting my sd card. it would not run the PC36IMG.zip file that i put on the root and recover my system so i had to do the ruu thing...
It would read something like this below...
Loading...[PC36DIAG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[PC36DIAG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
Loading...[PC36IMG.zip]
and it would successfully read the PC36IMG.zip but would not restore and a little scroll bar as it read the file would come up... i used fastboot usb and miraculously i have my 4K atom that i tried to reflash on my evo before it messed up.
I know that i still have s-on but it puzzles me how i have the s-on and running a rooted rom. my hotspot works and so does the GPS and navigation, i just can not connect to my wifi, or boot back into recovery without getting the black screen and 5 vibes of diagnostic so i am kinda stuck. My phone will send text and call out and let me download apps for what little internal memory i have on it; I hate i dont have an sd card to save pictures too, or and sd card to put music on to play in the car...
Thank everyone for your time, I just joined today but I have been a flashing freak for the last year or so once i figured out how to do it. I used unrevoked as my flashing software. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Usually my phone gives me the option to move recently downloaded or updated apps to the sd card...
This is one heck of a way to introduce myself. I am embarrassed and frantic about what has happened. I've been using the guidance in these forums for years, never had any problems, but I usually made a backup. Because of the size of the S3 backups, I didn't have one this time.
I have a Verizon S3 on stock ROM, rooted, CWM Touch Recovery installed, bootloader locked. I flashed the CRT Down - ODEX.zip (attached) from the thread below. Everything seemed to go well, but on reboot the phone gets stuck in the boot animation. I have also contacted Scott over Scott's ROMS since this was where the file came from, but have not heard back. My first preference is to undo the changes to the modded files. Second choice is to flash the latest stock ROM (Stock Root - VRALHE - ODEX.zip) that I have downloaded, BUT I cannot get it on the phone since the phone won't boot, and for some reason CWM does not see any files on the external SD card. My last choice is to do a wipe/restore from stock, and I think I know how to do this, but it will be very painful.
Anyone in a helping mood? I don't know where to go from here. This is just terrible.

CWM won't read your SD card because it's not formatted to the correct file system. You could take your card and backup the data, format it to Fat32 then transfer the ROM over to your phone that way. I've long since lost the link to the simple format tool that I used to format my card but if you search for it you should find it in I think the General Forum...
SD card already FAT32, formatted by PC and then reformatted in phone. Thanks anyway.

If you reformated in phone you formatted it back to extFAT.
You are absolutely correct sir. Your assessment was dead on. Thank you very much. I can now make a backup to the external card. Unfortunately, I had to restore the phone (-#*@"*). I found that two other 64GB cards I was having problems with had the same issue. Wow! Twenty five years around computers and I just figured out how to format volumes larger than 32GB in FAT32. Thanks again. This thread is done.
Well, I had a bit of a stupid moment. I Inherited a G2X from a friend of mine, and, of course, my first instinct was to install Jelly Bean from. First off, I never made a backup of my previous data, and second, I botched an install.from the eaglesblood. I forgot to install the GApps, leaving me without the play store. Not much of a problem until I realized that the ROM wasn't reading or mounting my SD card. So, I cannot download the USB Mounting app because it requires an sd card, and that I can't install GApps because I have no way to move files from the computer and I have no way to download the app directly to the phone to install the GApps. Help me?
EDIT: I used clockworkmod recovery 5.0.2.0
If you have an SD reader on your pc , take the SD card out of the phone and load a different rom or gapps that way (in the proper folder or remember where u put it to access it)... Then replace SD card in the phone and flash via cwm.

Ah-ha! I just took an older phone, and mounted it on there to transfer the files. Thanks for the help, though.
Does anyone know how to swap the internal to the sdcard or sdcard 1 for the Photon Q? it's really stupid that I have a 16 gb sdcard and everything is saving to 4 gb I keep ruing out of room. I tried other kernals and other things and that bricked my phone and I just brought it back to life so I was wondering if there is something to help me have more room so I don't try to brick my phone again. I'm really thinking about getting rid of if there is no way to save to my sd card I'm running CM10.1 CDMA version. Also the dumb bootloader unlocked warning won't go away I tried flashing a img file but it will never flash it always fail and I was wondering how to make that go away?:crying: HELP PLEASE
Here's a few options on what you can do to hack the internal SD vs external.
There's no "good" way to fix it unfortunately, that I have found yet. Good luck.

Also, I haven't tried it (the warning is kinda funny IMO), but this thread addresses the boot logo issue.
Please search before you post. Thanks!

Thank you I tried the img file flashing through ADB but it never flashes so Idk if I can ever get rid of that warning. I don't think I'm doing direct bind app thing right it doesn't work for me still trying though
If you use stock JB,I can guide you to mod build.prop and vold.fstab so that your sdcard can be primary storage and your internal which is 4GB can be storage for installed apps. I've tested it on my Photon Q with stock JB. It doesn't work on CM10.1 coz different storage structure. But,you can try flashable zip by younggun in Atrix HD thread. It works on Atrix HD CM10.1 based ROM.
